This is not the common view among mental health professionals and criminologists. Donna defies this common, misunderstanding with her own research which has shown that (from the perspective of the targets and survivors) the abusive behaviors of sociopaths increased over time as opposed to the traditional view which is that psychopaths/sociopaths/narcissists "burn out" over time and sink into their old age with less abusive tendencies.

Narcissists will "parrot," mimic, copy and plagiarize the ideas and themes they learn from self-help or therapy sources. Abusive and manipulative people can be sneaky, cunning and deliberate in their attempts to ruin positive aspects of our lives. They do this in order to isolate and psychologically control their targets. Many kind hearted people do not believe that malevolent intentions can exist outside of the obvious, criminal minds we see on TV and in movies. When you try to describe the saboteur's behavior, they will make you feel like it's all in your head. They frame their narratives to paint themselves as the "good guy" who is being persecuted or who has had a string of bad luck.
