Authoritative Parenting Style:In this parenting style, the parents are nurturing, responsive, and supportive, yet set firm limits for their children. They attempt to control children's behavior by explaining rules, discussing, and reasoning. They listen to a child's viewpoint but don't always accept it. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/letsmotherhoodtogether/message

In this episode I start off by defining the four parenting styles. Today, we focus on what authoritarian parenting is. Authoritarian parenting is an extremely strict parenting style. It places high expectations on children with little responsiveness. As an authoritarian parent, you focus more on obedience, discipline, control rather than nurturing your child. Mistakes tend to be punished harshly and when feedback does occur, it’s often negative. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/letsmotherhoodtogether/message

With a degree in Child Development and a background in teaching, I'm here to share the experiences I have encountered since becoming a mother of not only one but two children. Motherhood is a choice, a choice that I do not regret going into. I have learned much throughout my motherhood journey, and I want to share those experiences with you. If you're an inexperienced mother, an experienced mother, or have no idea what you're doing (It's okay not to know it all), this podcast is for you. Motherhood doesn't come with a manual; we learn and wing it as we go. Join me every Sunday as I touch on topics I have come across, what lessons I have learned from them, and what you can learn from them. “A mother is like a kernel, crushed by problems but strong enough to overcome them” ~African Proverb.--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/letsmotherhoodtogether/message

Mental health can be a sensitive topic to some. If you are suffering from mental health, please seek professional help. Most importantly, talk to family members about what's going on. Take time to pause, breathe, write things down and check in with yourself frequently. You are important, loved, and human like everyone else; you don't always have to have things put together. We are free to make mistakes and rise from them. Please don't wait until it is too late.

Today’s episode is all about how we speak to ourselves and how words have an impact to either destroy us or build us. I talk about how negativity almost ruined me and ended up in the ICU. Be gentle with yourself and give yourself credit. You are worthy of everything you keep your mind to. Remember, whatever you say will have an impact on your life one way or another. Avoid negativity so you can live a fulfilled life you always wanted.

This episode was hard to speak on because it took over 2 weeks for me to decide whether to record it or not. My hat goes to all the single mothers out there. It’s not easy but they are doing everything for their children without any support from their significant others. How can you support them? If you know a single mother, please reach out and be a listening ear. Remember, you are valued by the most important people in your lives (your children).

Postpartum Depression with my second child took a toll on me when I went back to work after 4 months. (I may have been saying “my first pregnancy” but I meant to say “second pregnancy) When mothers return back to work we often feel isolated and misunderstood. Everything is different and work expectations don’t match our motherhood reality. I speak on these and how important it was for me to put my mental health first.
