It has sure been a while since we released an episode. After I get this posted, I will do a quick blog about what’s going on and record that as a separate mini-episode. Ergo, I’m not going to talk about it now. This episode features two fascinating and remarkable guests; Zandara Kennedy and Gaston Morrison.
My co-host for this show is returning guest Megan. She met Zee and Gaston at a drifting competition and convinced them to sit down with us. Megan is my co-host for this episode because Jenn was out of town. I should mention that we recorded this episode in the middle of summer! So yeah, it has been sitting around for a while, waiting for me to publish it.
Now, do you ever meet people who are so much cooler than you that you think your life would be better if you could hang out with them on the regs? That is these two people. Gaston and Zee are stunt performers that drive drift cars for fun. They’ve been tossed off of buildings, crashed cars, done crazy things in cars WITHOUT crashing, worked in movies and television, performed in stunt demonstrations, you name it. Humble almost to a fault; they talk about their exciting lives like it’s no big thing. But, the truth is, I think many of us like to imagine having lives like theirs.
I hope to start producing Loose and Conversational Podcast episodes more regularly shortly. However, as the mini-episode will tell you, I no longer live in Edmonton. I don’t have a studio or a co-host, and I am a lot busier than in 2020. I miss all of you, and I will figure out how to get this going again soon, I promise.

This week we welcome the good folks from the Neonarcissism Podcast. Jackie, Kim and Brad are professionals, and they give us some great information that you need to know if you are dealing with a narcissist. Jackie and Kim form ElementQ, and they work in the field of Emotional Intelligence. Brad is a great psychologist; I know that personally. Check out the links for more information about these very knowledgeable guests.
Narcissism is a popular subject on the pop-psych scene these days, but Jenn and I wanted to talk to experts about what this means in an absolute sense. We learn quite a bit in this episode, but check out their podcast if you are interested in learning more.
This episode is the final one for our first season. Summer is upon us, friends. Time to be outside and get some sun. We will be back in late September with season two. We have a few changes in mind, but the biggest one will be no goddamn pandemic. Yay! We hope to do more in-person interviews and push the “loose” in Loose and Conversational. This podcast is just better when everyone is drinking.

Episode 29 tackles the age-old question, “can men and women be friends?” Spoiler alert, no, they can not. Well, sometimes. I think we can all agree that it is better left alone. Kidding, of course, we agree on very little in this episode.
We welcome a new co-host, Lindsey. Jenn buggered off on us, so we replaced her. Relax, it is temporary; she is back next week. Lindsey fills in nicely, though and probably was a better voice of reason in this episode because she has a bit more insight. You see, Jenn has been married a long time, so it was good to get another perspective.
I think we call this week’s guest “Elle,” although that isn’t her real name, and frankly, I think we call her by her real name a few times. Anyhoo, she is an old friend of mine from back in the day, so it’s nice to reconnect with her and argue about complicated relationship issues.
We get pretty loose in this bad boy. All of us do. It was excellent, and I’ll say it here first; the second season will feature many looser conversations. There is nothing wrong with people who don’t drink, but millions of other podcasts are for them. Loose and Conversational needs its guests and hosts to tie one on, you know? It makes for those cringy, awkward conversations that we are known.
I hope you enjoy this podcast, and after you listen, I hope you rethink that friend-zoned relationship you have. Don’t toss it away, but recognize it for what it is and realize that you’re simping. Or, if you are in a friend with benefits situation and hope for more, realize it will never be fulfilling, and you are just being used for sex.

First off, apologies for the delay in getting this episode out. The extra week is because I went camping and a large amount of editing went into this episode. Episode 28 started as our “HR Horror Stories” conversation but completely changed after recording and editing.
After almost an hour of talking about Human Resources, I wanted to talk about difficult conversations. We dialled in my partner’s sister, who is in an ongoing dispute about pigeons with her neighbour and chatted about that. Finally, we discussed what it is to be queer in a place like Alberta, and Joel teaches me what toxic masculinity is. We recorded for a really long time, had quite a few drinks, and ended up with a completely different podcast than we intended to.
I edited out all of the HR stuff because the conversation kept getting better and better. Joel has a gift for explaining things and not getting triggered by my caveman opinions. I enjoyed his perspective, even if it did challenge me at times. It is a complete coincidence that this episode is coming out during pride month, by the way. It is timely, though. I think I’ll try to put a rainbow in the episode’s graphic.
Even if neighbours fighting over pigeons isn’t your thing, stick through and listen to the end of this episode. What Joel says enlightened me, and I hope it does you as well.

This week’s episode brings back Scott Olson for another chat. If you listened to his first episode with us, you’d remember that Scott is a man of many talents. Well, he is also a self-described serial entrepreneur with a focus on leadership development.
In this episode, we focus on where leadership starts. Leadership is a subject that interests both co-host Jenn and me, and Scott has a great perspective thanks to his unique experience and insights. In this episode, Scott offers up four behaviours that form the foundation for leadership. His advice is clear, simple, and applicable to all levels of leadership. I’m not exaggerating when I say that following these four steps will instantly make you a more effective leader.

Because of the subject matter, I’m sharing this episode on LinkedIn, which is also unusual. I usually try to keep some distance between the Loose and Conversational Podcast and my professional contacts due to the sometimes explicit nature of the show. John Bennardo is a writer. He wants you to know this. He has been writing since he was a child and recently published a book titled “Just a Typo: The Cancellation of Moe Riverlake.“
I mean, sure, he produced a documentary about $2 bills and has a great Youtube channel. And yes, he has been on a couple of game shows, including Wheel of Fortune. John was involved in the entertainment industry in California and taught film students in Florida. Soon he will be releasing a podcast of his own. The man is so interesting that it is hard to focus on the fact that he is a writer.
In the typical “Loose and Conversational” style, we are all over the place in this episode. It started as our “Cancel Culture” episode, and we do get to that. John is an exciting guy to talk to, though, and an hour or so isn’t enough time to get everything in. We try, and it makes for a great episode; enjoy!
This week’s episode features Jamie Pityinger from the “Does That Make Me a Dick?” podcast.
Her podcast is fantastic and is all about non-judgemental judgement. We did a swap. A swap means that she was a guest on our podcast, and then we were guests on hers. I like this type of episode because it is a chance to have a couple of drinks and chat with a really interesting person that I otherwise never would.
I really enjoyed our chat with Jamie. She lives in and is from, Los Angeles California and she works in the entertainment industry. She is intelligent and funny, and I could have talked to her for hours. We did, I guess, counting both podcasts.
Our podcast is part one, with Jamie’s podcast hosting part two. We get pretty loose by the end of this one, but Jamie is a true professional, and hers is worth checking out. If you know Jen Northcoast’s real identity, she would prefer that you don’t listen to Part Two. I will say no more about that.

This episode is a different take on a country known for Letterkenny, poutine, Barenaked Lady Singalongs and saying sorry.

I met Scott Olson through LinkedIn a little over a year ago. Now a funny thing about LinkedIn, I never, ever mention the podcast on it. I try to keep some distance between my real job and the Loose and Conversational podcast. The concern is, folks in my professional life might not understand why I like to talk about the things I do on the podcast.
However, if more people on LinkedIn were like Scott, I would reconsider. In this episode, we get to know Scott. We had a topic, but we never got to it because this man is so interesting. We’ve already booked him for a return visit to talk about leadership.
Scott was initially a lawyer until he joined the FBI to work in counterintelligence. He was on the ground in New York for 911. When he was a teenager, he was a guide on Mount Rainier, for crying out loud.
This episode goes by quickly, so I’ll let you get to it. One thing, though, I have had a couple of comments about the music played at points in the podcast. “What’s up with the music?” After the intro debacle a while back, I started using a website that provides music, but I have to pay for it. It costs the same whether I use the intro music or use different music for every podcast. I’m cheap, so if I’m paying for it, I’m going to use it. It’s a principle.

I was initially going to title this “Brian L. – Legal Stuff” or something like that. You see, Brian is a lawyer by trade, and he does set us straight about a few things in this episode. I asked him to be on the podcast because he has a knack for getting both loose and conversational, not because he is a lawyer.
Brian is a loyal listener and supporter of the Loose and Conversational podcast. People like you and him are what makes doing this worthwhile. I was on a Zoom meeting with him one day when it occurred that he would be ideal to have on the podcast.
I know Brian as we are both members of the Rotary Club of Edmonton, Gateway. He is one of my favourite Rotarians because he can make even the most boring meeting fun. He has the gift of insight too. This episode is a classic Loose and Conversational one in that it gets looser and looser as time goes by, so listen to the end.
I want to try something a little special with this podcast. We mention Buy Me a Coffee all the time as a way to support the podcast. You may remember Barrymore as the person I stole the opening music from a few episodes ago.

Welcome to our Drunk Dialing episode. Recording a podcast with good sound quality is a challenge. Podcasters generally do not record in fancy studios. We have zero budgets and use what equipment we can buy to support our podcasts. Since most podcasts are remote these days, we rely on our guests to also have appropriate equipment.
For this podcast, we toss all of this on its ear. I hooked my cell phone up to my mixer, Jenn and I started drinking and started calling people. We did this all night! We already released one of the calls as a separate episode, and this is our compilation of the first calls.
This episode features our most popular guest ever, Cletus Van Damme, with his wife, Pocahontas. We also call our friends Francois, Lauren, and Sarah. These calls get us to our limit, so we plan to release the other calls in a few days as part two. I enjoyed these conversations as everyone seemed more natural just talking into their phones. Welcome to a Loose and Conversational Quick and Dirty episode! Well, friends, I bit off more than I can chew. We recorded with eight different people to make our “Drunk Dialing” podcast. That is going to take me a few more days to put together! So that you don’t forget about us, here is one of the conversations uncut.
This episode features the great Ben Wade. He is the second-best Sales Person at the second busiest farm implement dealer in Saskatchewan’s third-largest city. That’s not all he is. He’s about the most fun you can have in a 20-minute phone call when you’ve both had a few.
OK, trigger warning. At times, this is two guys from Saskatchewan trying to one-up each other with off-colour humour. If that is not your thing, do not listen. The comments are directed at each other and our friend Chris. I give this warning because Jenn was very uncomfortable with the conversation, and I feel it worth mentioning. Some of my favourite parts of this call are her subtle, horrified reactions.
“Drunk dialing” was an episode we did where, instead of worrying about all the technical recording stuff, we just recorded phone calls. I hope you enjoy this Quick and Dirty episode; the complete Drunk Dialing should be out in a few days.

Jeremy Norrie is a fascinating person. He currently produces and directs documentaries for Amazon. In this episode, we get loose and let the conversation take off. We could have talked to Jeremy for hours; he is a great storyteller and has lived a pretty exciting life.
We talk about hash, psychedelics and religion, psychedelics in general, Jeremy’s documentaries, Bigfoot, Aliens, life after death and more. We just talked until we ran out of time. Let us know if you enjoy this one because I think it would be great to get him on again. We left an excellent topic hanging at the end there.
Some good news, we think we can start having in-person episodes again soon. We have the next few weeks booked with remote episodes, and we will keep doing them sometimes because we get great guests that are not local. But there is nothing like that in-person vibe, you know? It is an excellent thing that there is a light at the end of this horrible pandemic tunnel.

Let’s talk about psychopaths! Last week we debuted a new intro song. Shortly after that, my good friend Barrymore Scott sent me a note that mentioned how I had used the same music as his podcast, Coming Up Next Time. My apologies Barrymore, I suppose that’s why it sounded familiar. We have new music again this week; I hope you all like it. Jenn disliked our original music, by the way.
This week’s episode is a great one. While talking about psychopaths a while back, we realized that we didn’t know what a psychopath is. It turns out that a lot of people don’t know. We were very fortunate to find an expert on the subject. Dr. Jan Canty is the host of The Domino Effect of Murder Podcast, which talks about the survivors of murder. She is the author of the book A Life Divided, her memoir where she shares the story of the murder and dismemberment of her husband, Dr. Al Canty, in 1985 by a man who was a psychopath.
Jan is also a clinical psychologist who earned her Ph.D. before her husband’s death. She is an amazing woman with some fantastic insight on the subject.

When I first thought about doing this podcast, I immediately thought about today’s guest. It is a thrill to get him on the show.
Kevin Birch is a Chef, an entrepreneur, and an all-around great person. He is half of the team behind chefsearth.ca, which he founded along with his wife. Kevin and I worked together, briefly, six years ago, and I can’t think of a time when it wasn’t fun. He is a man of insight and depth too. He has given me great advice that has had a profound impact on my life.
Join us as we get caught up. It’s been a while since we last spoke. Also, maybe it’s just me, but this guy has a great voice!
Oscar Wilde said, “a dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.” There are many ways to interpret this, but I like to think that he was saying, oftentimes the punishment is also the reward. Sometimes bad things happen but they are also good things, and vice versa.
Either way, this was supposed to be a great podcast. This episode was going to be our chance to finally talk to an OnlyFans content-creator. The Loose and Conversational Podcast has questions about this website, and we were finally going to hear from someone in the know.
Then our guest didn’t show up.
We had a bad feeling when an email and then a text went unanswered. We still went ahead and got ready. 5 pm came and went, and no guest arrived. What were we to do?
We poured ourselves a little Pink Whitney and recorded anyway. Like Seinfeld and some of our earlier episodes, this isn’t about anything. Just two pals having a few drinks. It was fun though. It kind of got us back to why we started this podcast. Fun, loose conversations.
A word of warning. I do manage to offend Jenn at one point. I even considered taking the offensive part of the podcast out. You see, I was commenting on a phrase that was common when I was young. It was a different time, and I acknowledge that it is inappropriate now. I decided to leave the offensive word in the podcast. There is just something dishonest about ignoring the shadows of the past. I know this is not how people feel today. I apologize if you find it in poor taste.
But honestly, a lot of this podcast is done in poor taste.

Travis Ridgen is a goalie for Varberg HK, a Division 3 hockey team in Sweden. We sat down with him during his cross-country search for open ice and grey market games of shinny. Sweden has started to lock things down a bit too, and they don’t have division 3 hockey anymore. Travis is back in Canada, but he is not just sitting on his ass. He is travelling this country by train and creating content on YouTube.
This podcast is exactly what you would expect if Jenn and I sat down with a twenty-something hockey player. Travis is a real character, and it was fun to shoot the shit with him for a while.

Ten episodes ago, we pledged to keep politics out of our podcast. We felt there were other podcasts out there that talked about politics already. We didn’t want to create any division or have arguments.
Well, maybe just this once. As the sun sets on old Donald Trump, we wanted to talk to someone that supports the old sod. We ended up with a somewhat amicable discussion about not just Donald Trump, but maybe the death of conservatism in North America.

Welcome Brent Seetaram to the podcast! This was originally recorded as a second part of our New Years Eve episode. Brent and I finished at 11:30pm and then I was off to listen to Barrymore Scott’s NYE DJ stream. Or, I guess he goes by DJ Vagabond.
As these things go, part one went long with Amanda and Lucy and so did Brent. It was easier to just make two podcasts.
A funny thing happened while recording this episode… Jenn didn’t show up. Well, she showed up 45 minutes into the podcast but we forgot to record her. You’ll notice a jump around then and it might take you a minute to figure out what our guest is talking about. We had to cut out the ten minutes with Jenn because you can’t hear her. Apologies… but we recorded Jenn, Lucy and Amanda at 4pm so I was fairly loose by the time we started with Brent. At least I made it to the recording on time.
Brent has his own podcast, Xranue, and we’ve known each other nigh on 15 years or so. He is lucky enough to live in Exshaw, Alberta and work at a hotel in a magical place called Kananaskis. I won’t plug the hotel because I’m still pissed off at them for some shit service I received this summer. There is only one hotel there so it should not be hard to figure out.
Well, since you asked, I dropped my keys down the toilet and they wouldn’t help me get them out. 400 kilometers from home and they wouldn’t lift a goddamn finger to help. Mighty fine of them. But Brent’s a great guy… I’m sure he would have helped me get my keys out of the shitter if he could. Nobody else would help, but I’m sure he would have. My daughter and I usually go to said hotel right after New Years Day but we didn’t this year… I only have one set of keys left and I can’t risk it.

Happy New Year! Welcome to our first official podcast from our closets. Jenn and I are recording remotely in our homes, and I’ve found that sitting in the closet is the most private and quietest place. We are going to be in here until the pandemic restrictions lift. It isn’t optimal, but it is what it is for now.
We recorded on New Year’s Eve and had three guests. We ended up splitting the recording up into two podcasts. Amanda from an earlier podcast and her sister, Lucy, join us in the first one.
During the podcast, we talk about the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. It is a huge, swirling gyre of garbage in the Pacific ocean. I couldn’t remember what it was called and promised to post a link explaining it. Lucy swears that the garbage that washes up on Vancouver Island comes from the United States. I was suggesting that it could come from almost anywhere that has a Pacific coast. I’m no expert, but I can at least look up something on Wikipedia.
