In this episode, we’re diving into a topic that’s been stirring hearts and conversations throughout the year: What does it look like for leaders to move from being Heroes to becoming Hosts?

📌 Episode Overview: We’re exploring a shift in leadership posture—from heroic, centralised leadership to hosting, facilitative leadership. This idea has been resonating across our network since Michael Wood introduced us to the Open Space Technology model at last year’s Collective Gathering.

Joining us in this episode: Jeff Nagle – Minister and Team Leader at Coast Community Church, whose passion is for the formation and alignment of their staff, NSW Naomi Giles – Minister at NationsHeart Christian Community for almost 25 years, ACT Kym Dixon – Leader Health advocate on the Network Resource Team, whose passion is the support and formation for women in ministry, and Josh Gibbon, Network Communications Team Leader.

Together, these leaders reflect on the impact of From Hero to Host in their ministry contexts and share how it’s shaped their understanding of leadership, community, and formation. We pray this episode prompts fresh insight and courage as you lead in your own context. 🙏

Join Sam Haddon (Northside Church), Rick Lewis (Anamcara Consulting), Judy Francis (Campbelltown Church of Christ), and Emily Ferguson (churches of Christ in NSW & ACT) as they grapple with this challenging topic of our cultural moment: how can we serve and companion those who love Jesus but no longer want to be involved in a Sunday service style of church community?

Recorded live at Collective 2023, our panelists watch a video from Sue Whiteley (churches of Christ in NSW & ACT) in which she unpacks a metaphor of people gathering at an airport gate lounge (those leaving Sunday church and looking for something new). Our panelists then reflect on their own experiences of this dynamic in both leading communities and leaving communities.
