Today we continue to explore Neurodiversity in the Workplace as we interview Renardo Jones, DISC Studio Support worker and videographer.
Renardo shares the story of his late diagnosis of Autism and the techniques and strategies he employs. Renardo also discusses how his journey has resulted in empathy and skills useful to his role in developing and enacting intervention strategies to help interns better cope with their education within DISC and to be better able to access employment or work experience opportunities.
We are currently exploring neurodiversity within workplaces, particularly within the digital industries that we, the supported interns here at DISC - Digital Independent Specialist College, are working towards.
During the next few episodes, we will invite successful industry professionals who are neurodivergent, to discuss their career, their diagnosis, and any tips and tricks that they can share that are helpful in a neurotypical world and workplace.
Today we kick off the first in this series with Dan Northcote Smith, ADHD, a Creative Director and AI specialist within Advertising.

This episode of Outside of the Box Podcast continues our games industry theme. We asked some of DISC's staff and digital supported interns about what computer games they play, why they enjoy them and tries to get them to confess how long they have consecutively played them for! It's an interesting 15min listen for any gamers and it gives potential interns of the college a great insight into the people at DISC.

In this edition, we are going to examine career opportunities and challenges faced by neurodiverse people in the workplace. We will also be talking to some very special guests who have achieved in highly competitive sectors.
Daniel Wakeford is a singer-songwriter from Brighton with autism. His career got a boost after appearing on the Channel 4 programme ‘The Undaterables’. His band The Daniel Wakeford Experience have played headline tours at venues across the UK.
Dan Pepper is a double IPC World Para Swimming champion. However, Dan missed out on his best opportunity to add some Paralympic titles to his impressive career in the pool to due a blanket ban on athletes with an intellectual disability, which was imposed after the scandal of the Spanish basketball team who included players without a disability in their team to cheat their way to a gold medal at the 2000 Games.
We’ll also be finding out about some of the support that is available to help neurodiverse people into the workplace with Caroline Morgan from the charity Pure Innovations.

Autistic girls face a different and particular struggle at school. Girls’ ability to mask in social settings often means that their autism goes undiagnosed, to the point that many face mental health issues as a result. In this episode, Digital Inc. Intern Emily speaks with Lizzie and Katie about her difficulties with a late autism diagnosis. They also talk about the impact of negative experiences with teachers, and what school or college staff could do more to support autistic girls.
