Are we behaving in the way we say we are committed to?6 core commitments we will be committed to: - Being wildly generous with our time, abilities, and finances. - Giving up our preferences to make room for people from all ethnicities, generations, and backgrounds. - Engaging the spiritually curious while equipping the spiritually maturing to help guide others on their journey. - Showing up for our cities through serving and partnering to make an unignorable difference. - Breaking cycles of shame and fear by exploring new life and freedom in Jesus. - Ensuring Jesus becomes real to future generations by changing our methods but never the message.

Merry Christmas and welcome to Christmas at Rainier View Online! Jesus is the King of Kings, not because he has overcome the world with force and might. But because he has demonstrated, through his life, death, and resurrection, that reckless love is the only power that can heal the world and bring real peace. Christmas is an invitation to live like this King and to become his agents of overcoming the evil and chaos of this world with good.Key Passage: Revelation 5:1-14 Bottom Line: Jesus is the only king who brings true hope. Herod was one of Israel’s greatest architects, but also one of its vilest rulers. He taxed hard, lived opulently, was spineless when under pressure, and murdered anyone who got in his way (his brother, his wife, and even infants). Famously, before Herod passed away, he ordered his servants to murder the most beloved people on his staff, so that there would be tears during his funeral. Herod was a straight-up narcissist who ruled for himself. Josiah: The Faithful and Overzealous Key Passages: 2 Kings 23:1-25; 2 Chronicles 35:20-24 Josiah is the GOAT. King at 8 years old, rediscovers the Book of Deuteronomy, and under his leadership, Israel experienced its greatest religious revival. But Josiah’s early success and ambition get the best of him: he picks a fight that wasn’t necessary, disobeys God in his attempt to honor him, and is killed. When Rezin (King of Aram), and Pekah (King of the North) ask Ahaz to squad up so that they can take on Assyria and TP3, Ahaz says no. So, Rezin and Pekah declare war on Ahaz to pressure him into an alliance. Ahaz gets nervous and considers selling out to Assyria, but the prophet Isaiah warns him about making such a rash decision. Ahaz ignores Isaiah’s advice, creates a partnership with TP3, his people lose their national independence, and God’s temple is desecrated. Rehoboam had both the best and worst start of any king. He had the benefit of learning from David (grandfather) and Solomon (father) and inherited the kingdom at its height. He was also surrounded by leaders willing to advise him at every step. But early in his career, Rehoboam opted to listen to the wrong crowd of people. The result: Rehoboam led Israel into a civil war and is remembered as a political disaster. Key Passages: 2 Kings 12:1-19 Bottom line: Who you listen to will shape who you become. We can learn from the Israelites after they were free from Egypt about why worship without generosity falls short. And why God is all in for you even if you aren't all in for Him. As we kick off our sermon series, ALL IN, we open by exploring the powerful connection between generosity and biblical community. Generosity is a theme that runs throughout the Bible, from the Old Testament to the New Testament. It's a powerful force that unites believers and inspires them to work together for the common good. But how can we practically live out this idea of generosity in our own lives and communities?

How is God there for us when everything feels doubtful? Faith sometimes feels useless, Deconstruction is a big topic, and frankly, we don't always have the best examples when it comes to leadership in the Church. If you've been with RVCC for some time or even right here online, you probably know Mike Parejo. He is our previous Parkland Campus Pastor and Digital Ministries Pastor. Mike recently stepped down from vocational ministry and from being on staff at RVCC. However, he remains very active at our church. This isn't the "usual" routine for a pastor who steps down at their church but we're so thankful that Mike and his family are still a big part of our church family. We asked Mike if he would tell us more about his story of coming to this discussion and he graciously took a moment to share it with us. Here's Mike...

If you Google, "Do affinity groups belong in Church?", you will encounter articles that span both sides of the spectrum on this. Are affinity groups gospel-centered? Is there a problem with people who have a common secular interest, such as sports, meeting in the church? What do affinity groups have to do with building community? Jeff and Krystal sat down with Amanda who has helped lead our volleyball affinity group in the past. She gives a clear picture of why affinity groups belong in church and how they are a valuable discipleship tool.

What does it mean to "grow young" in the Church? In this episode, you literally will hear straight from some of our students how they have been impacted and empowered by attending summer camp. Stories of how their lives were changed and how eager and excited they are to encourage change in those around them! This is why camp scholarships, volunteers, prayer for camps, and all of the above are so critical in creating next steps and life changes for the next generations to come. Because it only ripples from one person to the next. Let's listen in, have some laughs, and be inspired to keep continuing in the mission of growing young.

Love: Not a feeling but a commitment to sacrifice for the good of others. Who do you need to build a bridge with this week? Who do you dislike that you need to better understand their life or situation? Who can you sacrifice something for (think more your kindness, your presence, your words rather than money, but listen as God leads) without any expectation of anything in return?
To wrap up our Titus Study, Erika gives a message on how the good life allows both boundaries and grace. We're allowed to hold both when it comes to relationships with others. Here's why.
A truly good life means I need to be saved from myself. You don't need to be the hero of your story. In this message, Mike shares more from Titus about why we don't have to be "good enough".
Continuing in our sermon series, "The Good Life or a Life That is Good", Mike shares more about why investing in relationships is so important. As we study Titus, we're learning more about leadership and the values that we should be instilling in our everyday walks. It all begins with the heart and how we influence others.
In this episode, we sit down with Mike, Erika, and Jeff as they share a little more about each of their messages during our series, "Old Habits, New Life". The series revolved around some of the rhythms we need to be practicing to grow in our faith. They might feel like "old habits" but they really do guide how we should live our life.
We might ask the question, "Who is leading my life?". We are all being led, but not every voice leads us to a life that is good. Join Jeff as he talks about how the world wants to "offer us the good life", but faith offers us so much more as we begin this study in Titus.
We recently had the honor of Pastor Jose guest preaching at RVCC Parkland and RVCC Graham as well as on RVCC Online. When we get to partner with Tahoma Church, it is always an incredible time. From singing together to eating together, we love worshiping with our family at Tahoma. We hope you enjoy Pastor Jose's message as much as we did!
Jeff and Krystal take time to sit down with Elizabeth as she shares how she and her family honor the sabbath and rest in their busy seasons of life. Elizabeth and her husband, Dale, have raised nine incredible children and have one of the biggest hearts for the community. Take time to listen and enjoy some of the beautiful practices that she and her family share.
Do we really need to honor the Sabbath? In this busy world, how on earth can we take one day a week to rest? Join Jeff as he talks more about how we can honor the Sabbath in some simple ways that make a difference.
Summer camp for students, especially Christian-based summer camp, might feel like a "why is this even needed?" question. Why is summer camp important? A large and glaring reason is simply where we've been for the best few years when this podcast was recorded. The pandemic has really isolated students and it has been difficult. Jeff, Trevor, and Erika all share their different experiences of camp and why it was so valuable for them to attend. We hope that this episode encourages you to reach out to students in your own life to invite to camp and maybe even support them in getting there!

Does it feel like your prayers are bouncing off the ceiling? Or, maybe you wonder how we're supposed to pray? Jeff discusses more about prayer, why it works, how we pray, etc. in this message.

Join Jeff in our series "Old Habits. New Life" as he shares some fresh ways that you can be in the Bible. If you're feeling a little out of touch with your faith, this is a great place to start.
Join Erika as she sits down with Dr. Joe Grana who was a professor at Hope International University when she was a student. Dr. Grana answers great questions like "How do you navigate the academic nature of Bible reading and the personal nature of Bible reading?" in this not to miss podcast that lines up perfectly with our series "Old Habits. New Life".
Why does the Bible matter? It's just an "old book", right? Join Jeff as we kick off the "Old Habits. New Life." series with this important question.
We've wrapped up our "Movement" series and it's time for the Teaching Team to once again sit down and dive a bit deeper into the content. Join Mike, Trevor, Erika, and Jeff in this Roundtable Discussion.
This Easter message revolves around how having a relationship with Jesus and taking the next steps to baptism and joining community have nothing to do with perfection. We don't need to show up perfect before God to be in a relationship with Him. In fact, He's the one we need to be leaning on. We hope this message fills a movement within you today! If you're interested in next steps, be sure to reach out to us at info@rainierview.org.
What exactly did John even mean by calling Jesus "The Word"? Mike and Jeff do a deeper dive on both how the Jewish audience and the Greco-Roman audience would have understood that term: "The Word".
This week we ask the question, "Am I missing out on seeing God’s power at work because my legacy is focused on something other than serving others? ". As we are closing out our series, "Movement", this final message takes a deeper look at what it really means to live a Christian life from "being about me" to "leaving a legacy".
In this podcast, we answer the question: "Is Digital Ministry relational?" Join Jeff, Erika, and Krystal as they share how Digital Ministry has impacted them personally and how they've seen God work. If you have questions surrounding Digital Ministry or are even a part of anything surrounding an online church campus, this episode is something that might encourage you.
How do we move from a moment of faith toward a life of maturity? True spiritual maturity flows from a life committed to grace AND growth. Join Trevor as he moves through some of the Book of Acts and how we can learn from the foundations of the Church.
Erika recently put together her first LEGO set and now she is hooked. Learn about some interesting facts you may or may not have known about LEGO, why LEGO is a great tool to help relieve stress and anxiety, and more in this fun podcast.
How do we go from curiosity to life change when we have so many questions still about faith, the Bible, and even God? It is OK to ask questions about the Bible. It is ok to not know everything. It is OK to say, “I love Jesus and I’m ready to declare that, and I’ve got a lot of questions.” Join Erika in this message straight from the Bible about how one man's curiosity and another's willingness to listen changed everything.
We are in our series called "Movement" as this podcast was recorded. Discussing the movement towards spiritual growth and what that pathway might look like for someone. We have been in the Book of Acts and we know this part of the Bible, while a part of the New Testament, still can be confusing. Jeff and Mike try their best to help break down some questions for you in this episode.
As Christians, we should engage curiosity, not an argument. All too often Christians are seen as the most judgmental people because of how we handle conversations with those who don’t believe as we do. We need to remember that nobody ever is argued into a relationship with Jesus. James 1:19 - "Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”
In a world where spirituality is the last thing on people's minds, how to talk about Christianity with a Non-Believer can go several ways. But the greatest challenge to the church is not atheism, it is apathy. Join Jeff in this video as he discusses the movement from critical to curious.
The term Racial Reconciliation seems to set people on edge. You ask one person what it means or why racial reconciliation is important and you'll get a completely different answer from someone else. In this episode, some of our team sat down with Lonnie Arnold, Executive Director of the Racial Reconciliation Network, to have an open conversation around this subject. Lonnie opens his heart and reality to all of us. Don't miss listening to this episode.

How to love your enemies...what a rough conversation to have, right? Eddie Johnson, area director of Lakewood Steilacoom Young Life, guest speaks at Rainier View in this message. His personal stories will really dig deeper into the heart of loving your enemies.

Join Trevor, Mike, and Erika as they gives tools and ideas around what helps motivate them to set goals, keep goals (or even get rid of them), and keep moving forward in the most gracious of ways.
Really, why is parenting so hard? Especially modern parenting these days. We're faced with judgment, different opinions, and how to parent with love and logic, all of the things! Mike takes time in this message to break down how to parent with biblical principles and put trust in God.

When it comes to marriage, you might wonder if it is even worth it to be married or stay married. Join Jeff this week as he discusses ten different points about marriage that are backed by biblical principles. Even if you are single, this is a great episode to listen to and be encouraged how God wants our marriages to thrive.
Rising above shame isn't easy when we lean into our hiding places. When we leave things in the dark. Rising above shame means allowing God to illuminate our lives. To find freedom from shame by seeking what God really wants for our lives. We don't have to overcome shame on our own.
This Week’s Takeaway: “Shame cannot survive being spoken.” -Brene Brown
Main Passages: Acts 19, Ephesians 1:15-23, 1 Corinthians 15:17-19, Ephesians 5:12-14
Shame doesn't belong in our hearts and in our lives but it is something that we deal with consistently. How do we experience freedom from shame? Watch for Jeff's sermon on how "Shame Doesn't Belong Here".
This Week’s Takeaways:
And if shame is a foreign invader to our hearts and minds – that means it doesn’t belong.
3 Steps to Experience Greater Freedom from Shame
But there’s one more step: tell someone. Anyone. You’ve got to verbalize this to another human being.
Today’s Main Passage: Romans 8
You might think "Name your shame" feels vulnerable, gross, and downright terrifying. Why would anyone want to admit to something that they are shameful for? But here's the thing. When we name our strongholds that are holding us back from the life God wants for us. When we see ways that we can begin breaking free from sin...we can begin to heal and make better choices toward breaking the shame cycle. Join Erika as she discusses this topic this week at Rainier View Christian Church.

How do we go about finding peace in times of stress and worry? Why does peace feel impossible? Is it as easy as welcoming God into moments of anxiety and conflict? Gratitude is a virtue that can transform every situation we encounter. But we have to practice it to experience that transformation. We are going to work on developing a theology of gratitude by looking at five different examples of people in the Bible who were able to give thanks in difficult circumstances, and we’ll see that we can do the same.
Is there believable unity in a racially divided world? Can racial reconciliation happen in the church? This past Sunday we were pleased to welcome a guest speaker to RVCC Parkland. Lonnie Arnold is the associate pastor at New Salem Baptist, a predominantly black church in Tacoma. Recently, Lonnie invited a few white pastors and some fellow black pastors to join him for a conversation. That initial exchange led to further gatherings as they helped each other broaden their perspective, and that first group has expanded to six groups of multiethnic pastors talking, growing, and dreaming about what churches working together could mean in our community. He is currently the founder and director of the Racial Reconciliation Network. As we've begun to talk about our desire for a church that reflects our community, we’re simply trying to live out Jesus’ call in John 17 for unity. We believe that if our church is going to make a difference in our community, it should also reflect our community.

Today we are going to be addressing two of those virtues – honor and integrity. As Christians, telling our story to others doesn't have to be terrifying. It also doesn't have to be a soapbox of theology either. It simply is sharing how God has shown up in your life or the life of someone you know. It's as easy as telling a story about a friend. Should we honor others who have different values than us? Should we honor others who don't honor God in their lives? What does it even mean to honor others above yourself? As we begin our series called "True Virtue", let's begin by talking about what it really means to honor others. The Bible talks a lot about honoring God, those in authority, those around us so it's worth a healthy discussion.

The question of "why is it important to share my story?". Oh boy, what a question, right? Sharing my story?! That could cause people to think I'm not who I am. That could mean I have to talk about being a Christian and we all know how that goes for some. Why is this so hard? Jeff shares the important measures behind why we need to share our stories so that we can bring others into God's story! We invite you to share your story! There are benefits to serving others. God is on a mission in this world. When we serve the way Jesus calls us to we join God on that mission and get to see the world through his eyes. Serving others can feel overwhelming when we're dealing with things like anxiety. It can also sometimes feel like more than we can handle. Join Corey as we discuss more what it means to serve and while it isn't about us, serving others can do so much for us too.

As Christians, we need to reclaim the lost virtue of hospitality if we are going to be like Jesus. That means building trust with others and relationships!
If we are going to be a blessing to others and earn the right to share our faith. Because when we are unheard, we feel alone and unloved. But, when we are heard, we feel known and experience love.
One of the best places to help others sense they belong is by sharing a meal together with them. One of the best ways to practice sharing our faith is by sharing a meal with our neighbor.

Christians are often known for talking more than listening. Part of relationship building and discipling others is listening. It doesn't start and stop with a "how are you today?", listening to one another goes deeper.
Before you can have those deeper conversations, you need to start with understanding smaller aspects of who they are. Ask these kinds of questions:
Show actual interest in the other person and what is going on in their lives. Because as you ask them these kinds of questions that seem more surface level, as you listen you may discover deeper things about them – their values, beliefs, hurts, etc. We need to seek to understand those deeper things others say if we are to be a blessing.
What not to do:
Even if you can’t relate or if you have a different viewpoint from the other person, don’t disregard what they have to say.

What does it mean when we say, "Don't be a Fixer"? When we listen to others, it's easy to feel the pressure of trying to "fix" the situation or the noise that is going on in our own heads. We don't have to be Jesus in these moments but love like him. Here are ways that we can be better listeners as a way to love our neighbors.

Building a relationship with God and others around us begins with prayer. There are a lot of reasons why people don't pray but in this episode, Mike, Noah, and Krystal talk about why beginning with prayer is important. How it leads us to a relationship with Jesus and opens our hearts to love like Jesus. Before we "Google" anything, a relationship with God is far more important. Even in the waiting and the turmoil.
We are currently in a sermon series that is designed around the book "Bless: 5 Everyday Ways to Love Your Neighbor and Change the World" by Dave Ferguson and Jon Ferguson. We discuss a little more about this book in this episode and encourage you to read it as well!

What if we took time to look at the world as God's Kingdom being restored instead of viewing it as a progressive sinful place that we need to run from? What if we took a moment to see where we can meet people where they are at? Join Jeff, Rusty, Aaron, and Diane in this podcast about how to best launch the next generation of missional leaders around the world. Especially in a time when attending church feels like the last thing on anyone's mind to do.
Aaron and Diane are missionaries with CMF International and are such an encouragement to a younger generation who wishes to take on God's calling to restore His Kingdom here on earth no matter if that is in missions, working at a bank, in a classroom, or right at home with friends and family. We invite you to listen and share with others.

How does supporting others help you support yourself in your walk with God? The short answer is that we weren't designed to be alone BUT it's so much more than that. He said what?! Oftentimes in the Bible, we read things that might seem as if they are "contradicting" something else that we've read in another passage. Or, Jesus says something that just sounds WAY off from the "love thy neighbor" approach to life. What does this mean when we're trying to study and learn God's Word? Listen to this roundtable (more like a square table) discussion between Mike, Erika, Jeff, and Corey.

Don’t miss it: I can only discover the good God has in store for me by living life His way. How will we have any fun living life God's way? If I give to the church, how will I pay my bills? Dealing with comparison as a Christian means finding humility. The comparison game is strong in our current world and we can easily justify our actions based on "who acts worse than I do". An Excerpt From Be The Bridge Blog June 19th, 2020
“Happy Juneteenth, a special day on which we celebrate Black freedom and achievement…
…Slavery persisted in the southern US after the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. In remote corners of the Confederacy, news of slavery's end did not come until more than two months after Robert E. Lee's reluctant surrender in April 1865. The day General Order No. 3 was finally delivered to the people of Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865, is the day slavery finally ended in the Confederacy. Juneteenth commemorates this announcement. It is important to note that slavery was not fully abolished until the passage of the 13th amendment on December 6. 1865.
As we all know, the end of slavery did not mark the end of discrimination. Black people in America have had to overcome countless social injustices throughout history and continue to fight for equality today.
Juneteenth is important not just for Black Americans but for all Americans…Juneteenth and the events leading up to freedom for all Americans must be understood and supported by all, so everyone can have the opportunity to live in a just society that does not discriminate on the basis of the color of your skin or any other differences.
Juneteenth is also a celebration of the many achievements of the Black community and the richness of African American heritage. On Juneteenth, many families get together to eat, dance, and celebrate their culture. They may also take this time to honor the history of their ancestors whose stories stretch back thousands of years to African civilizations.”
As a church, and more importantly as Christ-followers, we seek to fulfill the command that Jesus gave to his disciples at the last supper “As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.” This command follows the example of Jesus humbling himself in the form of a servant by washing his own disciples' feet and is followed by Jesus demonstrating the extent of his love by dying a humiliating and painful death for all humankind.
Sometimes, in moments like these, we hear people criticize or attempt to politicize the conversation. For many of us, Juneteenth is something new we’re still learning about. For some of us, it might be something we’re learning about for the first time. For some of us, this might be a conversation that we’re struggling with because we’re not sure how it fits with what we were taught or have believed. But for others of us, this day of remembrance holds a special, or painful, or complicated reality. As Christ-followers and as fellow human beings let us all do our best to prioritize love above all else. We encourage you to do what is always good to do:
