Welcome to the BEHIND THE GRIT with Monica Kline. As an entrepreneur, I can tell you I don’t wait for success, I make a way, despite all odds.
For me personally, after living in quiet desperation, facing numerous challenges, followed by tragedy, I refuse to give up. To this day, I remain disciplined and continue to grow my business, create a legacy while curating a life I love on my terms.

In todays episode we are going to talk about the art of storytelling.
If you are a business owner, you need to learn to tell your story as this is known as “content marketing”. Storytelling is what moves the needle in your brand and business, which allows you to reach new clients.
When you intertwine your purpose with your business goal, sprinkling in some entertainment, this is where storytelling comes to life, because a good storyteller not only evokes emotion, but always makes you feel like you are in the room experiencing the story first hand.
Remember back to a time you sat with a loved one, an elder or a friend and were captivated by a story they shared. This is an art form.
If you’re not telling a story, you’re simply sharing facts, which does not entertain or engage. To create valuable content, you need to tell a story - not just any story, YOUR STORY!

In todays episode I share tools on how to implement a daily mindset practice!
Your mindset is a set of beliefs that shape how you make sense of the world and yourself. It influences how you think, feel, and behave in any given situation.
Your mindset plays a critical role in how you view life, especially when obstacles arise.
Your mindset practices is similar to brushing your teeth, it must be done daily! When you fill your mouth with sugar, you brush more frequently. Same goes for your mindset, if you are around toxicity or thinking negative thoughts, you need to focus on your mindset work more frequently.
If we are not careful, a poor mindset can create self imposed limitations, which creates a domino effect, starting with your mind, which triggers a lack of self esteem and can leave you feeling in a FUNK.

Today I discuss the identity crisis we as women experience, but sweep under the carpet oh so often.
Let’s face it, we wear MANY hats and hold MANY titles, it‘s like juggling multiple balls in the air..….at all times!!
Typically the story plays out like this; go from parents home to college, marriage, career, & motherhood - typically without a break in between! Adding all of the demands that come with each role, we start to lose who we are and become someone else, or neglect ourselves completely as we become the nurturer, or step into the “SUPER WOMAN” role.
This is a fine line and we need to find time to focus on what fuels us, what makes us happy and dedicate time to whatever that may be. We are still unique individuals with desires and that requires us to nourish our mind, body and soul in a way that suits us.
When we lose sight of who we truly are, this is when we end up in an identity crisis. When this happens, self worth issues start to creep in which will create challenges in our lives.
In today’s episode, I encourage you to show up exactly as who you envision, give yourself permission to be the woman you have always desired to be. Your identity is based on your sense of self worth, when you value yourself, life falls into place and you are genuinely happier, which trickles into all of your relationships.

When starting out on the path of entrepreneurship, you will need to consult an attorney for a variety of reasons. Notice I said NEED. As a business owner, not consulting an attorney for your business filings, contracts and to protect your brand and business is not an option, it is a necessity.
This podcast is not about consulting and retaining attorneys for launching my business. In this episode, I reveal why I had to consult and retain 9 attorneys in the early years of launching my business, and I share private details as to how each attorney protected me.
This was not an easy episode to open up on, I had to fully let down my guard and relive many tumultuous moments of my recent past. The message I want to impart today is to trust your intuition, don’t review your own contracts and always seek legal advice when it comes to business and matters of the heart. This is something to celebrate, especially since approximately 20% of new businesses fail during the first two years and 45% during the first five years!
I don’t know about you, but for me, there was something about the security of a paycheck coming from someone else that really never felt secure for me. I am going to pull back the curtain and share the highs and lows, then the lowest lows I experienced during these first 8-years of entrepreneurship.

In the wake of pain, loss and despair I felt like I was covered by shards of shattered glass. The day after my Mom’s funeral, I had decided I was not going to live a lie any longer and needed to remove myself from my marriage in order to stop fearing for my life and seek peace. While I found myself stumbling in the months that followed; often feeling numb and isolated, I began to put all of my focus into building my business. As the months passed, I finally felt like I was hitting my stride, just in time for the pandemic to hit NYC and in the blink of an eye, we were the epicenter and on lockdown. My anxiety skyrocketed to new heights and I made the decision to temporarily relocate to California to be with my Dad. Days away from my cross country move date; my Dad had an outpatient procedure, in which the surgeon struck an artery that ultimately ended up taking his life days later.
The days and weeks that followed through me into a tailspin. I share how my faith guided me, as well as having a strong support system. The few confidants that held me up, I am forever grateful for each of you.
Prayer, meditation, signs from the other side (thanks Mom!) leadership skills and what I call God moments helped me put one foot in front of another each and every day.

In this episode I share about failure being inevitable. Learning to fail fast is the key to getting to the other side. Don’t ever feel shameful, as failure is proof you are putting yourself out there.
After feeling like I had failed at certain things in my life, I made a conscious decision to redirect my life path and this is when I entered the season of living life on my terms - not what someone else expected of me. I was no longer placing my happiness in someone else’s hands, I took full ownership and started to do good, feel good and was curating a life that fulfilled me on every level.
The key was holding myself accountable and stopping the blame game. As I became more aware of each decision I made, as well as continually investing in myself, life began to open up in beautiful ways, truly making me feel that I was free as a bird to pursue whatever it was that MY heart desired.

Partnerships and relationships are key indicators that will influence your life path. In this episode I share how certain relationships in life can hinder you from following your true passions in life. I share how being with the wrong person for almost 2-decades led me down a winding road of abandoning my dreams, or worse yet, forcing myself to live life according to his rules. At the end of the day, I truly felt like my wings had been clipped and was heading towards living a life out of default.
Once I learned to get honest with myself, this is where I found the answers and was able to begin creating the life I desired, on my terms.
