As organizations grow, shrink, or aggregate themselves with other organizations, directors need to efficiently manage the transfer of IT functions including digital asset management. Aside from standard overhead associated with M&A, costs attributed to managed resources can make up a large part of the initial expense. Specifically, expensive technical and specialty software is most likely used in multiple departments in both entities. These applications may be the same or similar, or they may be completely different, with users trained specifically for the application they each use. And each organization brings their own list of software management issues, including inventory surplus or shortfall, misappropriated installations or distributed licenses, and uncertainty of future application needs. Therefore, information regarding the inventory and related license usage is required in order to proceed with an efficient merger.
