When I was pregnant I found that there were so many stories of positive vaginal births, but not so many positive C Section stories. My C section was positive and I hope this helps if you are worried. Many people really fear C Sections, and although it is a major surgery and recovery is hard it can still be a really positive experience. I was really scared, I felt all sorts of emotions in the days after my sons birth, but now looking back I would't change a thing. I am proud of how my son came into the world and I have my scar as a forever mark of strength.
FYI - I do discuss in this epsiode feelings of fear and feeling very vulnerable right after the birth if this may be upsetting for you.

If you feel not right, not yourself, and you think that it could be perimenopause you are not alone. Or, even if you just want to inform yourself more about perimenopause & menopause. Sadly womens health is still somewhat lacking in this area. I have many clients and chat to many women who feel confused, anxious, not heard, alone and like a stranger in their bodies. I am all for advocating for yourself, for being informed, and for trying to view seasons of life in as positive a way as possible. Even if that last part seems impossible sometimes. Fi has lived experience of this topic and had knowledge by the bucket load.

You would think that spot reducing belly fat is possible with all of the products that claim to work on the market. However, it's not true. You cannot spot reduce body fat in any area. But, there are steps you can take that will help reduce body fat overall, and by default around the belly area if this is a goal.

I'm a realistic coach. I know it's unreasonable to say always put yourself first, no ifs or buts. But, if you are always putting yourself & your needs at the bottom of the pile this only breeds resentment. No one gets the best version of you. It's not selfish to look after yourself. Everyone benefits if you feel better. If you would like to work with me drop me a message, or check out my website for more details.

In a world where everyone is searching for the magic potion, the secret to success is much less sexy. There is no silver bullet, but there absolutely can be success. This episode is all about my experience of the first half of my pregnancy. I struggled with debilitating nausea, and sickness, but in addition to that I struggled with very low mood & depressive thoughts. As a fitness coach, this mindset is the main reason I see people fail. No matter how you dresss it up, if you're either all in or all out, you won't get very far. Life is stressful & we have to be accepting of that. We need to learn how to flow, do what we can & know that trying is good enough.

This happens so often, we are on a roll with exercise, doing great & feeling motivated, then boom. Here are some really practical & helpful tips to help you pivot & adapt, rather than throw in the towel so that you can continue to reap the benefits that exercise brings. I would argue that almost all of us experience negative body image days. I consider myself to have a postive body image, but I also get days where I don’t feel great. There are so many factors that can make us feel crap about ourselves, but it is so often purely our perception on any given day, rather than reality. Donna & I discuss some simple tips & we are open and honest about our own struggles with negative body image days. Acceptance is a beautiful place to arrive at with regards to our bodies. We could all benefit from going a bit easier on ourselves & being kinder to ourselves. We will never hate ourselves into loving our bodies. Ps. My apologies for the poor sound quality in this episode!
Social media would have us belive that we need to get up at 4am, meditate, journal & drink lemon water for 3 hours to have a productive day. This is lovely if it’s for you, but for the vast majority of us, it’s just not realistic. Having said this, I am a huge fan of some structure in the mornings to get yourself set up for the day. Our actions on the morning can have a huge impact our entire day. When we get off on the right foot, in a way thats realistic & maintanable for us it can help us have a fabulous day.

All exercise is beneficial for our health, but different types of exercise benefits us in different ways. It’s important to know the difference if you have a specific goal because doing the wrong type of exercise for a specific goal can leave you frustrated at the lack of progress & may lead to you giving up.

We’ve all been here. The fitness cross roads. This is a tricky place to be. Motivation has up & left & you just want to get going again but you feel a bit stuck. You have a choice, move forward or give up & head home. The cross roads can be a good time to reasses why you started. Were you being realistic before? What can you put in place a plan to keep moving forward? If we can muster up enough strength to push on through the cross roads, often this leads us out the other side of the motivation funk & onto bigger & better things. It’s worth giving it a try. If you are here now give this episode a listen, it might give you a wee boost to get on the right path again.

In my opinion calorie counting can be useful for some people. Many of us don’t have much knowledge around how many calories are in our food & it’s not our fault. We are sold so called “healthy” foods and we are subtley lead to believe that they are “low calorie”. This is not always the case. This episode is my opinion on why calorie counting can be helpful in making informed decisions around nutrition. Why it's not necessary & what the long term goal of calorie counting should be.

This was a great question from one of my clients. Why are rest days & rest time between sets important? Building muscle takes more than just lifting weights. Protein & rest are equally as important. Failing to take efficient rest can lead to overtraining & burn out. We can’t pour from an empty cup as they say - the same goes for your muscles.

Well, this is an uncomfortable one to share. I spent many many years trying to hide how I really felt about myself. I put on my mask & acted how I thought others wanted me to. Anxious, full of self doubt, no confidence. I let other people treat me poorly & blamed myself. All of that started to change when I discovered resistance training. It's taken me 12 years to feel comfortable enough to be able to speak about it, but if this helps one person. I'm glad I shared it. If this episode helps you please let me know. I would love to hear from you. If you're in the pits right now, just know that it doesnt need to always be this way. Lots of love.

If you are putting off starting, or at a place in your journey where you just can’t get the momentum going. This episode is for you. It can be hard to get going but when we break it down & just do something, it makes taking those first steps that little bit easier. Action leads to motivation, it’s not the other way round. Taking those first few steps can be the catalyst for change.

If you find health & fitness overwhelming, one really helpful tip I find is to remember that you are just a big kid. We are really good at making sure any kids in our care live a balanced & healthy lifestyle, but we struggle applying the same rules to ourselves. With all of the noise & fads around no wonder it’s confusing, but strip it right back to the basics. Apply the same rules as you would for a child to your own nutriton, exercise, sleep, mindfulness & fun. It can really help to keep things a bit more simple.

My apologies for some of the sound issues in this episode!
If you are at the start of your health & fitness journey and are feeling overwhelmed with how much you think you need to take on, this episode is for you! I am joined by Beth @move.me.happy to discuss how little daily habits over time add up to you achieving your goals & being able to maintain them. It can be difficult to accept that sometimes our goals will take us longer than we think, but, I live by the mantra that the time will pass regardless. You can stay stuck, or spend the time working on yourself. If you give up, time does not stop. Breaking down the steps, being kinder to yourself & getting comfortable with the process will help to set you up for long term success.

I get vulnerable in this episode about some of my own self doubt. I'm sharing it here, because if it helps one person take the leap, then i'm ok with that. If you feel like you are standing at the bottom of Everest right now looking up, about to take on a task that feels impossible, remember all of the hard things you have done in life up until this point. You have succeeded in things before. You can succeed at this too. You have strengths & you can use them to help you on your health & fitness journey. You've got this.

Pelvic health is widly spoken about within the pre & post natal space, but it is something that is often neglected, or unknown about for many people who have not been through pregnancy. As an advocate for health, fitness & wellbeing, I don't think that pelvic health can be forgotten about when we discuss womens health. It's part of the whole package. Carrie is a pelvic health physio & kindly joined me for this episode to share her wisdom & explains how we can love our pelvic floors, treat them with the care they need & signs & symptoms that may need some investigation. If you have any questions, Carrie can be contacted via DM on her IG page @_pelvic_health_physio She is super passionate about the topic & a wealth of knowledge. If you find the scales triggering this is a MUST listen. Everyone has a unique relationship with the scales, but they can be a crude measure of progress. Often the scales can be detrimental to your progress & for some removing them completely is a great tool to take back control. You do not need the scales to progress with a fat loss goal. Donna & I discuss other options for tracking progress, how to approach the scales with realistic expectations & options you have for moving forward with the scales in a different way.

As women we are under so much pressure to do it all. We have packed schedules, we have never ending to do lists & the pressure of it all is just too much sometimes. Being very deliberate with rest is very different from just lying on the sofa scrolling your phone. To feel rested, often, we need to learn how to get out of our heads and switch off for a little while. We struggle to allow ourselves to feel negative emotions, others around us struggle when we feel sad or upset. This can lead to us eating/ drinking/ consuming to help us deal with negative emotions. There is a constant drive from society to put a smile on our face & get on with it. It’s unhelpful. Take time to rest, take time to feel how you are feeling. We all feel the same from time to time. Eating well & exercise are two of the most important things we can do for our health & wellbeing. Stop putting them to the bottom of the list.
If you are struggling from prolonged feelings of sadness or mental illness, please get help & speak with your GP.
Take care.

We can have every workout & nutriton target we need to reach our goals, but what many of us forget about is our mindset, and how much of an impact that has on our success. If we approach things thinking they will never work, then there is a high chance that will be the outcome. If your internal narrative is telling you day in, day out you can't do it, you're just not fit, it never works, why would you even bother trying? We need to approach tasks & goals with a growth mindset. A belief that we can learn, that we can succeed. Emotional eating, it's something that most of us do at some point. Feeling sad, angry, upset, bored, all of these emotions can leave us in search of comfort food in an effort to feel better. For some of us however, it can become really problematic. It can lead to unwanted weight gain, poor physical health & decreased mental health. Katie explains to us whats going on inside the body & mind that drives us to emotional eat. Fat loss is really hard. It can be difficult to face the fact that we need to link overeating to our emotions rather than food as a single entity. Self compassion is key. Health is key. Taking charge of your thoughts & mindset can really help with emotional eating & a side effect of this is often fat loss.

Fat loss, it's confusing. Calorie deficit, calorie surplus, maintenance, macros, fat loss, weight loss, what does it all mean? What diet to choose? How do diets actually work? As a fat loss coach I understand that it can be overwhelming. We are often promised the earth by fat loss diet companies. It is in their interest to keep you in the dark about fat loss. In this episode I cover how fat loss actually works, I explain a bit about calories, the difference between weight loss & fat loss & why we need to take into account how much of an impact human behaviour plays on fat loss & it's long term success. I was joined in this episode with the wonderful Nina who is the menopause health coach. Menopause is something that half of the population will go through at some stage. Yes, the conversations are getting better, but menopause is still too much of a taboo subject. We associate the menopause as something that happens to old ladies, but, it’s not. From around our mid 30s its something that most of us could benefit from having an awareness of. Yes, the menopause can be a scary & uncertain time but it can also be a time where we thrive. It can be a time to evaluate what you want from life & style your own journey. The symptoms can be strong, but so are we! Fitness, food & lifestyle are things we can control & something we can adapt to suit this time of life which can have a hugely positive impact on our journeys.

For me, health & fitness is holistic. Its fitness & food, but it's also mindset & wellbeing. This is why I wanted to chat to Emma about the positive impacts that cold water can have on our wellbeing. And what an uplifting episode this was for me to record! Emma is a ray of sunshine & her love of cold water swimming shines through. The mental health & wellbeing boost that cold water brings has been widely reported recently, and many people now swear by it as a major factor to their improved wellbeing. Emma kindly shared with us her own struggle with depression & how cold water swimming & the lifestyle has turned this around for her. If you are curious about cold water swimming & the benefits, as Emma says, just give it a go.

I absolutley loved recording this episode with the fabulous Katie from @thehypnotherapyden Katie is a Psycotherapist & solution focused hypnotherapist. Katie came on to chat about anxiety, stress & our self limiting beliefs from the brains perspective. When we try to make health & fitness improvements we often struggle to believe that we can do it. Something holds us back. We lack the confidence to go for it & sabotage ourselves. This episode explains where these thoughts & feelings come from. Katie gives us an insight into how we form self limiting beliefs & how strongly they can hold us back. A huge thank you to the wonderful Katie for sharing her wisdom with us!

It's officially December! Christmas is on the horizon and this is a topic to really consider this time of year as we spend a lot more time with others and potential influences on our choices. If you have been working hard on your goals then surrounding yourself with people that cheer you on and support you is really important. I know it's not always easy and we can't always choose everyone at our table, but in this episode I cover the types of people who you may want to consider giving a seat at your hypothetical, or real life table. I cover the importance of boundaries, particularly with pushy people and why clear communication is a must. Just remember NO is a full answer.

I asked my lovely mate and podcast co-host on the episode to discuss her IVF journey so far. Infertility, trying to conceive and IVF are still be a bit of taboo subject, yet they are so common. We are so used to seeing pictures of happy bouncing babies, but I really think the conversation needs to be opened up to allow for discussions around when there are struggles with conceiving and with infertility, it is more common than many of us realise. In this episode Alessia is so open and honest about her own journey so far and explains some possible things to expect if you are starting on an IVF journey. We discuss how you can help support a friend or partner going through IVF or having problems trying to conceive. We also cover some things that are within your control in terms of nutrition and wellbeing that may help support fertility and how you can apply these.

This can be a bit of a crossroads for people on a health and fitness journey where there has been a focus on fat loss. It can be a bit confusing and a bit scary to dip your toes out into the unknown. I wanted to record this episode to help explain ways that can help you transition and give you some ideas of approaches you may want to take for your fat loss journey. This should be a pretty straight forward move if you have learned about nutrition, but it can also feel a bit overwhelming. Hopefully this episode gives you some reassurance and an idea of how to approach fat loss, so that when the time comes, the transition is plain sailing and the results are long lasting.

I think many of us are guilty of lacking in self compassion from time to time. It's a topic that I get into some sort of converstation about every single week. We push through, we beat ourselves up, we speak to ourselves like crap. This can have such a negative impact on your mental wellbeing and ultimately your goals. If we were all just a little bit kinder to ourselves, we could use this kindness to acknowledge how well we are doing and be honest with ourselves in areas where we could apply a bit more effort. Self compassion is being honest, but kind to yourself. I hope you enjoy this episode and can take away a few tips that will help you pat yourself on the back and treat yourself like a best mate.

Procrastination, we all do it. Ever found yourself sat on the sofa, scrolling your phone when you know you have something else to do? Me too! Life. It will always get in the way when we are working towards something. Most of the time when it does, it is something outwith of our control. But, it is how we deal with these moments that will dictate the progress we make towards our end goal. I am joined in the episode by the wonderful Michele Griffin. Michele is an online coach and PT based in New Zealand. Michele kindly got out of bed super early on her side of the globe to discuss with me the benefits of exercise as we age. Admitting that we are getting older is tough for a lot of people, the media still pushes this narrative that you have to be young to be beautiful and thrive. Michele and I are here to debunk that nonsense! Yes, our bodies change, and it can be a real eye opener that we start to lose muscle mass and bone density as early as in our 30s. However, exercise, particularly strength training is one of the most effective ways to negate or slow down the signs of ageing. You really have the power to start doing something right now that can massively increases your chances of living a strong, healthy and independant life for a long time to come. Ageing can be challenging, but you can 100% thrive. You can be one of those awe inspiring 80 year olds still climbing mountains, but, you need to start working now. Look after yourself, embrace the changes and set yourself up to thrive for many years to come.

This is one topic that alot of people ask me for advice on. These tips are not meant to take the enjoyment away from social events, but if you are working towards a goal, there might be one or two tips that could be useful for you. Practicing moderation and being sensible with choices will help you enjoy social events, whilst still working towards a goal that is important to you. Welcome to the JULY recap episode with PT Lindsay & Nutritionist Alessia. This episode is a belter!! I have the wonderful Jen aka 365 outdoor adventures mummy on this weeks episode of the pod. Jen is just inspiring! As a busy, working mum of 3 young bouncing boys, Jen could see that the technology trend was having a negative impact on her boys, so she decided to do something about it. As an outdoor lover herself, Jen decided to start an outdoors adventure challenge with her team and has had some amazing adventures thus far. Jen documents her adventures on her super inspiring instagram page to help others to get outside and enjoy nature with the kids.
We discuss the importance of planning with young kids to make it as easy as possible, why it's fine to leave the house a mess and just go for it, the cost of living rises on young families and how to navigate adventures around this, and, how Jen manages to keep her boys of different ages engaged and involved in the adventures. In my opinion, Jen is super mum and she is so modest about it.

This episode is a little bit different! I was super inspired by my friend Brian Hamilton when he told me that he had signed himself up to take part in his first ever Ultra Marathon so I asked him to come on the pod and share his story. Competing in an Ultra is an extreme. Both mentally and physically, it has to be one of the most taxing sports out there. Brian shares some of the lessons he has taken away from his race with us in this episode. Whether you are interested in taking part in an Ultra marathon, or starting out for your first 5km, in this episode we discuss going at your own pace, supermarket meal deals, and learning about your body and what works for you. We discuss the importance of having goals and a focal point for your efforts for when the going gets tough. And, why setting yourself challenges and a willingness to adapt can help you go far. The lessons that Brian has learned can be applied to many aspects of life and may inspire you to take the leap and go for it. I'm sure that Brian has only just begun his Ultra journey and I can't wait to see where it takes him next!
I really hope you enjoy this episode and give it a like, share and tag me in it as it helps me reach a wider audience.
Also, let me know if you would like me to pass on a message to Brian, maybe you want to wish him luck for the next one ;)

This podcast touches on a few topics which fall under the umbrella of Relationship with food. Many of the habits we discuss are very common, we often find ourselves doing them or using them as tools, often, without awareness. I hope you enjoy this episode and hopefuly it gives you some insight into how being mindful around food and identifying habits might be a useful tool for you to use.
It is important to mention that if you feel that you may be suffering with an eating disorder, or you are unable to control your behaviour around food, it is important that you speak with your GP or medical team.

We all want to look and feel our best on holiday. There is nothing wrong with this, most people feel this way. For some of us, this might include wanting to lose some weight before a holiday. If this is the case, it can be so easy to become a target for a FAD or overly restrictive diet the lead up to a holiday. In this episode I discuss the problems with getting stuck in this cycle and alternative solutions to weight loss for a holiday. Where ever you are off to I hope you have a fabulous holiday!

When the beautiful Angi @getpeachy asked me to be a guest on the Get Peachy podcast to discuss all things hiking, I could not wait! If you follow me on Instagram you will know that hiking is one of my passions. I really believe that being up in the clouds, moving your body and being out in nature does wonders for our physical and mental health. Angi and I recorded this podcast as a bit of a guide for beginners looking to get into hiking. What to wear, hiking nutrition, kit you need, planning a route and training. It's all in the pod :)
Hope you enjoy!

I got so much more from this podcast than expected! I invited MMA coach & gym owner Dermot McGrath to join me today to chat about the fitness and training side of MMA for beginners, however as I learned from Dermot, the sport is so much more than that. MMA is a concept, we can use it to improve our confidence, apply its lessons to life, improve our self esteem and as a tool for empowerment. Dermot explains the benefits, the challenges and the extremes of this very inclusive sport.
Dermot runs an MMA gym and he is just a wonderful man, who I am sure would invite anyone into his gym with open arms. You can follow Dermot and enquire about his gym on his Instagram @pankrationmma_limk

Habits can often be the key to our success when it comes to our health and fitness goals. Sometimes we don't even realise that something we do on autopilot is a habit. How do we form them? How can they be changed? and just how difficult is it to change them? Maybe you have been thinking recently about changing a habit, or a series of habits that you have, but don't really know how to go about it. In this episode I provide you with a few tips and hints for identifying habits and how to go about changing them to habits that are more in line with your goals.
Thank you for listening & I hope you enjoy.

We wanted to provide you with some useful and practical tips to help you navigate stressful and overwhelming times.
We discuss how even focusing little snippets of time on moving your body and doing what you can will increase productivity and reduce stress. Why planning and self compassion are key, and why focusing on what foods you eat can have a huge impact.
Alessia coaches people through IVF and TTC and helps her clients at one of the most stressful times of their lives. She has some really simple, yet effective advice that she shared in the episode.

This is a very special episode with the wonderful Donna Jackson. As a challenge during lockdown, Donna took on the unbelievable challenge of running 30 half marathons in 30 days. Donna pushed through some immense mental and physical barriers to raise money for Mind the mental health charity. She faced personal challenges, going through a break up in the middle of the challenge, and hitting a personal best on day 25. Donna credits the challenge to digging deep and learning how strong she really is. Some of the life lessons that Donna learned as a result of the challenge are still as prevelant now as they were during the many hours spent pounding the pavements. A truly inspiring listen. I am in awe of Donna and she is a true inspiration for us all to dig deep, face challenges head on and push through barriers that we place on ourselves. We don't know what we are capable of until we try. Thank you again to the beautiful Donna for joining me. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did.

There are many reasons that diets fail, for some of us, we can spend years in cycle of yo-yo dieting only to end up back at square one. Perhaps, you have felt like a previous diet was a success but you are now back to where you started. If so, did this diet really work if the results don't last? Can you really eat chocolate if fat loss is your goal? And do fads really work? If you have ever felt confused by why diets sometimes fail, there are a number of reasons why. We cover a few of them in todays episode. I hope you enjoy.
