Putting the fun in Mormon FUNdamentalism Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dave-kirkenbower/support
I am not breaking any news here but this last month things have gotten a little dark in our society with the events of the Charlie Kirk assassination to the attack on an LDS Church in Michigan. In a world that seems to be descending into chaos, what solutions do we as Mormons have to not just preserve but improve the condition of the world around us? Well today on the podcast I have David Nielsen on to talk about a principle that may seem simple but not necessarily easy and that is brotherhood. The interesting thing is that both David and myself were contemplating the very same idea and that story is pretty cool and we kick off our conversation by relating that event, we then we move on to what brotherhood means both for the wider society as well as Mormonism in particular. We then discuss how this principle applies to being disciples of Jesus Christ, how we can implement this principle and how it can possibly not only help heal the wounds in our country but maybe even be the start of something great within our efforts to be more effective disciples of Christ. Stick around for a conversation that should not only give you hope but also empower you to make things a little bit better in your own sphere of influence.

One of the features of the Restoration was new scripture coming forth along with translations of existing scripture and Joseph Smith defiantly did those things. But have you ever stopped to ask yourself if the format we have them is now the most conducive way to read and study them? On this episdoe I have on Drew Briney and Joshua Winchell to talk about an ambitious project that was just finished. The Restored Scriptures are scriptures put back in its original format with the edits that were made by Joseph Smith. During the course of our conversation Drew layout his thought and decision-making process as he put the scriptures back into the format the early Mormon leaders would have recognized, along with a lot of history thrown in along the way.

Just wanted to touch base with the listeners and let everyone know about the next few weeks' worth of episodes.
The truth to the is life is that much of our testimonies that inform our beliefs, opinions and actions are gained through the crucible of adversity. That fact however doesn't always lend itself to gaining perspective. More often than not, it's only after the trial of faith that the reason for that adversity comes into view. Sometimes by talking about trials that others have gone through allows us to "borrow" some perspective on things we are going through. On this episode Cory & Joni Malloy join me as we talk about their faith journey, focusing primarily on some pretty significant trials they have encountered both while they are single and after they got married. We talk about their childhood, how they met, their marriage, the birth and loss of their son, and how Cory almost died because of Covid. Then we move on to talk about how despite all these trials and adversity how they have managed to hold on to and strengthen their faith. We then wrap up by talking about where they are in life today and some pretty exciting projects they are working on.

This week has been one of the darkest in American history. I did post a special episode on Wednesday but i felt like the Lord wanted me to dig a little deeper. So today on the podcast I have Jeff Alldredge on the podcast to break down the spiritual implications. The reason why Jeff will become apparent to the listener with early in this episode. During our conversation we talk about assassination of Charlie Kirk and explored its spiritual significance, including parallels to historical prophets and its impact on Mormon society. The conversation covered various societal issues including wokeism and more. We finish our conversation by talking about what this means for us as Mormons moving forward. importance of personal repentance
Home
There are certain times in society that are deflection points, in our times those would be 9/11, the Wars in the Middle East, the Financial Collapse of 2008 and I believe what happened to Charlie Kirk will be one of those moments. Adam and I both felt the promptings to talk about it, so this episode is a little emotionally raw. After witnessing what happened today in Utah it is easy to want to strike back in anger. But as Adam and I talk we discuss why that could be the worst thing we could do and what we have to do as disciples of Christ moving forward through this dark chapter of American history.
Today I have Ben Shaffer on the podcast to talk about Freemasonry. We discussed the relationship between Mormonism and Freemasonry, addressing common misconceptions. Ben clarified that Mormon temple ceremonies were not based on Masonic rituals, and he emphasized the historical and cultural overlap between the two and wrapped it all up by talking about what Ben has learned through his time as a Freemason.
On this episode David Pyne joins me again. Now if you have haven't been a long-time listener to the podcast Mr. Pyne is who I turn to for in-depth analysis on world events. Davids time in the Army as a Staff Officer, National Security Policy Director for Senator Mike Lee, & The Defense Foreign Policy Advisor to Former Presidential Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy give him the ability to give nuanced perspective to current events. During our conversation we talk about subjects such as the war in the middle east, the ongoing Russian-Ukraine Conflict, Chinas quest for Taiwan, as well as some domestic issues.
We are in an age where Faith is a virtue that is dwindling. People are leaving organized religion in record numbers due to factors like corruption of leadership, false narratives, abuse and cover up and the list goes on. One of the hardest hit religions is Mormonism in all of its faith expressions. But once someone in Mormonism leaves their former Church home where do they go, and how do they get there. Justin Francom comes on the podcast today to talk about an idea he has to respond to this crisis. His idea? An on-line interfaith ministry made up of Mormons from all different faith traditions in Mormonism to reach out to Mormons who have left their church home. Now if you're like me when you first hear of something like that you cant help but wonder how such an organization would work. We discuss the organization's intent and goals, how it will function to preserve faith, how the organization is already made up of different people from different Mormon groups and Independent Mormon Fundamentalists. Now if you are a Mormon leaving your faith community and need a soft place to land, or you are a Mormon who feels the call to missionary work and help preserve faith, reach out to me here or click the website link in this episode's show notes.

WARNING NOT FOR CHILDREN!!!! 99.9% of the time I love doing this podcast! I love the guests, the audience, and the topics we cover. But that other 0.01% can be nothing but difficult, this is going to be one of those discussions. On this episode Taylor Smith and I have a conversation about the abuse that is being perpetrated in the LDS Church and its apparent cover up. Now to be fair this is not just an LDS or even Mormon problem, this is a problem across all organized religion that affects all of the religious communities and needs our attention. We start out by covering a few of the stories that have recently been in the news about the topic. Taylor provides amazing insights from his time in the LDS Church as youth which helps to give context around the cultural norms of the LDS Church as well as some incredible doctrinal insights. From There we dive into some of the more problematic ideas that surround this topic in Mormonism that have shown how a culture of “saving face” has made getting victims to safety, and healing for the offended party next to impossible. We talk about our responsibilities as congregants of our various faith communities and finally what should be done to help those who have been hurt by such wicked acts. Video for this episode is going to be really helpful because throughout the conversation we share articles, statistics, and videos that show the problem. Finally all the articles, videos and statistics we show in the podcast are available in the links below.

On this episode I sit down and have a conversation with Steve Pynakker. Steve is the host of a podcast on youtube titled Mormon Book Reviews. Now Steve while is not a member of any Restoration group he is fascinated with the Restoration as revealed by Joseph Smith. Because he is able to maintain an observes view of Mormonism his insights into the various groups and churches makes for fascinating conversation. As we have our conversation we cover everything from the state of various Joseph Smith Restoration groups and churches to how he became fascinated with Joseph Smith & Mormonism.
In the old days of coal mining one of the common practices was to bring a canary down in the mine. They did this because canaries are very sensitive to gases like methane. So if the canaries became sick or died the miners would know it was unsafe and leave, so it was a way for predicting dire consequences. Therefore the term "canary in the coal mine" refers to an indicator which proceeds disaster. Today Michael Ness joins me as we look at certain groups which have distanced themselves from the Adam-God Doctrine and where they stand now.
On this episode David Nielsen and I have a conversation about the Endowment Power spoken of in the scriptures. We start off by finding out what the Endowment of Power is and isn't, we then examine what the term Endowment of Power means in the context of the Restoration in the days of Joseph Smith & early Mormon leaders, we then trace the doctrine back to the New Testament before wrapping by discussing what the implications are for us as followers of Christ in the Restoration.
On this episode Elior Walker joins me as we talk about the Doctrine Of Christ from the Book of Mormon. We start by setting the table by talking about certain theological principles and ideas needed to understand his idea about the Doctrine. We then move on to read the text itself cross referencing to other scriptures. We then move on the implications of the Doctrine and what it means to us as disciples of Christ.
On this episode I sit down and have a conversation with Braxton Bogard as we explore his faith journey from his childhood in Kentucky in the Campbellite faith tradition, to his time in Bible College, his proselyting ministry in France, his conversion to the Mormonism and joining the LDS Church, his discovery of Orthodox Mormon teachings, and his excommunication from the LDS Church just weeks before the LDS acknowledgement of the 1886 Revelation. All along the way Braxton and I talk about principles and concepts of the Restored Gospel. Braxton throughout this interview doesn't hold back and at times isn't afraid to show his heart on these things. Buckle up for a powerhouse of an episode.
On this episode Jacob Vidrine joins me as we take a look at one of perhaps the least well known and misunderstood ordinances in the Restoration, The Law Of Adoption. We talk about the ordinance's history including it origins with Joseph Smith, its practice during the Utah period under Brigham Young and John Taylor, its eventual dismissal in the LDS Church and above all its importance in our theology.
Last week on the podcast I released an episode where we talked about the LDS Church releasing and veryfying the existence and authenticity of John Taylor's 1886 Revelation. We covered alot of the history surrounding the document and what it means for Mormon History. On this episode Michael Ness and I sit down to have conversation about what the release of the 1886 Revelation means theologically. During the course of our conversation we talk about some of the arguments LDS apologists have given to try and dismiss or downplay the importance of the 1886 Revelation, we take a look at a few scriptures in the Book Of Mormon that seem to suggest that "all is not well in Zion", we examine other times in ancient history when apostasy has occurred, the impact of the LDS Church's denial of the existence of this revelation has had on individuals and families, and finaly wrap up our conversation by trying to give hope to those who have had thier testimonies shaken by the release of the 1886 Revelation.
Well it was kind a big week in Mormonism, especially if you're an Orthodox Mormon. With the release of the 1886 Revelation By The LDS Church we find ourselves in a place where if you are an Orthodox Mormon we can now beyond a shadow of a doubt point to John Taylor as the man who got the movement started. To help break this all down Cristina (Rosetti)Gagliano joins me again on the podcast. Cristina is a PHD and has made the study of Mormon Fundamentalism and its history the focal point of her scholarly work, having literally wrote the book on Joseph W. Musser. During our conversation we cover what the 1886 Revelation is, the context & history of the times it was received, the Revelations suppression by the LDS Church, and finally wrap it all up by talking about what this all means as it relates to LDS & Orthodox Mormonism. Make sure to come back next week where me and another guest will take a look at the 1886 Revelation and what its release means from theological point of view for Orthodox & Conservative Mormons.
In todays world one of the most important tools that God has given us are the scriptures. We can find their covers sacred teachings, inspiring stories, and a prophecies both fulfilled and yet to come. But is this all that we can take from them? Today on the podcast I have Edwin Jacobi to talk about just that. Edwin joined the LDS church of his own freewill at the age of 14 in Spokane, Washington after taking the lessons from the missionaries. He is a business author, serial entrepreneur, life counselor, disruptive inventor and innovative philanthropist. He is married with a blended family of 10 children. He is of literal of Jewish descent both of Ephraim and Judah. During our conversation Edwin explains how was able to deepen his own study of the scriptures, thereby creating a deeper relationship with God.
On this episode Justin Francom joins me again as we breakdown a couple of very interesting exchanges between FAIR Mormon and and some members of The LDS Church over some messaging released by Fair. Now for anyone unfamiliar with who FAIR is, they are an organization that forms apologetic defending the LDS Church, and to be honest they have some done some really good work in the past, I even had a member of FAIR on once on this podcast. However thier latest post has left a lot of Mormons in the LDS Church which way the LDS Church and FAIR are heading in regards to the LGBTQ movement. Justin and I talk about what is happening, how it is effecting members of the LDS Church, What the consequences are for society at large, how what we are seeing now is of ancient origins, and wrap all up on a hopeful note as we see progress being made to stem the tide.
On this episode I have Tracy Roberts on the podcast to talk about a book he has recently wrote about the relationship between the Old & New Testaments. During the course of our conversation we talk about Tracys childhood growing up LDS in Texas, his LDS Mission, his time at BYU, how he met his wife, and his faith journey that led him to search out truth no matter where it was. From there the conversation shifts to talking about his new book that illustrates everywhere in the New Testament where the writers either directly quote from the or make reference to the Old Testament, and wrap it all up by talking about why that subject is important to us as followers of the Savior.
Sometimes I feel like we are living in a Charles Dickens novel, "It was the best of times and the worst of times..." As disciples of Christ we can defiantly see that times are getting harder. However there are also some great things happening as well. For example, never before has humanity had the ability to communicate with the rest of the world without a middleman. Also for us Orthodox Mormons we can be a little more bold in proclaiming who we are than those who came before us to keep the religion alive. Today I have on a family who is taking advantage of both of those things. On this episode I sit down with Jeff, Vanessa, & Sharis Alldredge. They have just started a brand-new Youtube channel which is going to give viewers an inside look at their family as they go about their everyday life homesteading in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Along the way we touch on a lot, from their hopes for the channel, how the whole family feels about this new venture and even talk about living Plural Marriage and wrap it all up by talking about what their hopes are in sharing their lives with the rest of the world.

On this episode I have a conversation with April & Tony Despain. April is a Mom that caught wind that her child was being exposed to some Trans affirming things at school. As any good mom would do she raised some questions and after a time found her self in the midst of a lawsuit.

On this episode I get to sit down and have a conversation with a young couple who has found and embraced the Fullness Of The Restored Gospel. Elior & Haley Walker join me today as we talk about their story. Starting in childhood we find out about their upbringing in the LDS Church, how they met and fell in love, how Elior & Haley found out about the inconsistencies in the LDS Church vs Early Mormon History, how they navigated those times together, how they were able to come through this time stronger as a couple, and where the Lord has taken them on this journey. All along the way through this conversation we touch on some pretty deep principles all the while having some.
Right around last Christmas I did an episode about Book of Mormon geography which took a close look at the Heartland Model. Today on the podcast I have Ken Peterson on as we take a deep dive into the Mesoamerican Model as a setting for the Book of Mormon. As always Ken comes prepared as we look at several factors in examining the Meso-American Model including anthropology, geography, geology, linguistics and natural disasters. No matter which model you subscribe to, you are for sure going to learn something from this episode, and while this is a topic that shouldn’t affect anyone's testimony, it sure is fun to talk about.
Every so often people come along in the Restored Gospel and end up leaving impressions that echo through decades and centuries later. It will not be surprising that in a hundred years from now if people still won't be referencing Ogden Kraut and his research and work. And also like so many who have left such an impact Ogden did not live long enough to see the full fruition of his work, that particular portion was left to his son Kevin Kraut, and it is he who I am having a conversation with today. We talk about a benchmark that was achieved in his fathers work with the recent publication of Ensign To The Nations. Ensign to the nations is all 70 books that Ogden published in one book. During our conversation we talk about when and how Ogden first got the idea for this book, the reasons it never was published during Ogdens lifetime, the commission from Ogden to his son Kevin to finish the book, the challenges Kevin faced with getting it all put together, some of the more miraculous events that accompanied this work, and finally what this book should mean to mormons today.
On this episode Drew Briney and I have a conversation about an ambitious new project that looks to bring forth a set of scriptures that is closer to the early days of the Restoration. Drew has called this version the Joseph Smith Version (JSV). During our conversation we talk about what this version will look like in terms of content and doctrine. We look at the process Drew used in making determinations about what to leave as we now have in the LDS version of the scriptures vs. what needed to be changed back to the original, the implications of these revisions, how it could change our understanding of certain ideas, doctrine, and understanding of certain scriptures, if any revelations from other early Mormon leaders made into the JSV and the future of the project.
This is the final episode of the Temple Covenants Series. We have explored a lot in this but I didn't feel right without kind of giving a wrap up and conclusion to the series. Today I have Justin Francom back on the podcast to give some insights into the Temple Ordinances. Along the way in our conversation we cover a lot of ground. Justin first illuminates how many of the teachings of the Temple Theology can be find through different cultures and their beliefs, from there our discussion turns to "mapping" the Temple experience and diving into what is next for those who have received their Temple ordinances and what is required of us to keep growing after making these covenants with God.
Rumble Channel: https://rumble.com/user/MormonRenegade
We are nearing the end of the Temple Covenants Series Isaac Musser joins me to have a conversation about the Marriage Covenant we take in the Temple or as Mormons refer to it The Sealing Covenants. Now as we begin to explore what this covenant really is what is brought forward is that we as people only scratch the surface of not only our blessings but perhaps more importantly for this life what our responsibilities regarding this covenant. This episode is absolutely a powerhouse of deeper doctrine and should change our perspectives on this part of the Temple ceremony.

On this episode of the podcast we continue the Temple Series as we take look at the Law Of Consecration. David Nielsen joins me to as we examine this covenant. We cover what the covenant is, how the early leadership and membership of the Restored Gospel viewed and understood it, how it was practiced from the Kirtland to Utah periods, the success and failures of various communities who practiced and implemented the covenant, and finally what it should mean for us today as practitioners of the Restored Gospel.

On this installment of the Temple Series we are going to be discussing perhaps one the most controversial and for sure the most misunderstood portion of the original Mormon Temple ceremony and that is the Oath of Vengeance. With portrayals of Mormonism such as Under The Banner of Heaven and American Primeval this part of the Temple Ceremony makes a lot of Mormons squeamish. The truth is however we don’t need to feel that way. Today I have Ben Shaffer on the podcast as we discuss this portion of the Mormon Temple experience in depth. We talk about what the Oath really is, how it has been misused, how it became taboo, how it helps us become a more civilized people, and also how it actually helps us focus on relieving the suffering of the oppressed.

NOT FOR CHILDREN!!
Today on the podcast Taylor Smith joins me as we move on to Part 5 of the Temple Covenants Series. In this part we will be taking an in depth look at the Law Of Chastity. Now on the surface it seems as though there wouldn’t need to be much discussion on this topic. Now if a person desired, they could certainly take its simplest explanation and be blessed, but as with all things in the Restored Gospel there are layers of understanding that go with any principle as well as layered blessings. During this discussion Taylor and I peel back those layers to find deeper meaning within this principle and covenant and give context to help illuminate the fact that this covenant has way more to offer than its simplest explanation.

This week we continue the Temple Covenants series. Today we will cover perhaps one of the most misunderstood of all the covenants, The Law of the Gospel. To do this I have brought Ken Peterson on. We break down what the covenant is and what it is not, and what it should mean to us as Mormons. As always, every time when Ken comes on, he adds depth and perspective to this topic. So, if you have ever wondered about what the Law of the Gospel is really all about stick around to get gain a better appreciation of this covenant.

Joseph Smith was quoted saying the following: “Let us here observe, that a religion that does not require the sacrifice of all things never has power sufficient to produce the faith necessary unto life and salvation . . . It was through this sacrifice [of all earthly things], and this only, that God has ordained that men should enjoy eternal life; and it is through the medium of the sacrifice of all earthly things that men do actually know that they are doing the things that are well pleasing in the sight of God. When a man has offered in sacrifice all that he has for the truth’s sake, not even withholding his life, and believing before God that he has been called to make this sacrifice because he seeks to do his will, he does know, most assuredly, that God does and will accept his sacrifice and offering, and that he has not, nor will not seek his face in vain. Under these circumstances, then, he can obtain the faith necessary for him to lay hold on eternal life.” Joseph Smith, Lectures on Faith, pp.6-7
Now if sacrifice opens the windows of heaven and prepares us to become acquainted with God, then we shouldn’t be surprised that this would be a covenant we would take in the Temple Endowment. Today Seth Laub joins me as we take a deep dive into the law of sacrifice. We explore its place in mankind’s history, how sacrifice to God is actually a blessing to us and not something we should fear, the growth that happens when we learn to sacrifice, how it deepens our walk as disciples of Jesus Christ, and finally the blessings that flow to us from this principle.

So, this is part two of the temple series. Today Felipe and Merilynne Cervantes joins me on the podcast to talk about the Law of Obedience. Now I don’t think it is an accident that this is one of the first covenants we make in the Temple. In many ways it provides not only the base for which the rest of the covenants are built on it is also the place in which God reveals how the family is to be organized. We talk about how being obedient is a pathway to freedom, an opportunity to grow, and a mechanism by which our walk as disciples of Christ is deepened so hang out for all that and more.

You will really want the video for this one. This week is the first episode in a series on the Temple. I will be having on different folks that you have heard on the podcast before to go over each covenant we make in the temple. Now rest assured we won’t be divulging anything we are not supposed to. We will however take a look at each covenant we make and what they really mean. On this first episode I have Ann Hatch as we have conversation about the Spirit of Elijah and finding the names of our kindred dead to prepare those names for temple work. No that is just one part of our conversation because the whole way through our conversation we talk about the deeper doctrinal concepts behind these principle as we share stories of some miraculous things that have happened as we both have engaged in this work. By the end my hope is you will feel empowered to get to work in finding your ancestors and preparing them for going to the temple.

Today’s episode is going to be a heavy conversation, but one that has to be had. On this episode I talk with a man who has had one of the most remarkable of faith journeys that I have ever had the privilege to hear. Today I have a conversation with Ammon Jeffs. Ammon is the son of Warren Jeffs and was a firsthand witness to what life was like living on several of the compounds owned and operated by his father and the FLDS Church. During the course of our conversation, we cover Ammon’s early life and childhood while first living in Northern Utah, then Short Creek, Texas and many other places. We talk about how his life changed once his father took power, the death of his mother, his father’s arrest for abuse, his banishment from the FLDS Church and his coming to terms with his father’s actions. From that point we move into talking about his deconstruction of false doctrines taught by Warren Jeffs and just how different they were from the doctrine taught by Joseph Smith and Brigham Young and other early Mormon leaders. We then finish up by talking about how he found and kept his faith in the Restored Gospel as taught by early Mormon leaders. While this conversation starts out really heavy by the end Ammon demonstrates the healing and transformative power of Atonement of Jesus Christ and the Restored Gospel and shows us that we don’t have to be a slave to our trials or the sins of our family’s past.

(THIS EPISODE IS FOR MORE MATURE AUDIENCES, SOME CLIPS I PLAY FROM A DIFFERENT PODCAST MAKE SEVERAL INAPPROPRIATE INNUENDOS AND I WOULD SUGGEST NOT LETTING ANYONE UNDER 16 LISTEN!!!)
While I won't play down the theological differences between Orthodox Mormonism and the LDS Church the truth is that there is a lot more that we have in common than not and as such when The LDS Church lines up with True Principles we should stand with them on that principle. This episode is one of those as me and my guest defend the LDS Church from a prominent Anti-Mormon podcaster. The LDS Church in the last couple months took a few steps in a direction I think most of us as Fundamentalists would agree with. They have presented new curriculum for their youth explaining the history around the LDS Church’s former practice of Celestial Plural Marriage. Now by presenting this information you would think that the anti/post Mormon community would be happy with this since they have been screaming for more transparency on Joseph Smith’s practice of plural marriage. However, the exact opposite is true. They railed on the curriculum material by calling it grooming. So, on this Ben Winfield and I breakdown not only the curriculum published by the LDS Church (which in my opinion is pretty darn good for LDS Youth) but also the response from a prominent anti-Mormon podcaster.

There are some stories in scripture especially when you get back towards Genesis that seem so far removed that it can be hard for us to extract any meaning from it. However, God never gives us anything that he doesn’t want us to use. Today Michael Ness joins me again as we wrap up his series on Genesis. The main scriptural account we will be covering is about Nimrod and the Tower of Babel. During the course of our conversation, we talk about who Nimrod was and his possible connections to the character of Baal, as well as a period of time that overlaps with Abraham. We then move on to Tower of Babel and some very interesting parallels to our modern society and some warnings from the past that we should pay attention to. Now you can’t talk about those things without also taking time as well to talk about The Brother of Jared, the Jaredites from the Book of Mormon and their concurrent history.

The Savior warned us that in the last days there would be false Prophets and false Christs that would lead people astray. To ensure that we don’t become misled it is important that we understand truth so well that we can spot a counterfeit a mile away. It is for this reason I wanted to do this two-part series on the Nemenhah Record. With that said last week me and Justin Francom broke down the Nemenhah Record and explored some pretty problematic teachings found in this alleged book of scripture. Today Justin joins me again as we finish our examination of the Nemenhah Record, and spoiler alert we are about see where the Nemenhah Record really disagress with the Book of Mormon and other principles of the Restoration as taught by the Prophet Joseph Smith. Today we cover what the Nemenhah Record says about changing the ordinance of Baptism, Plural Marriage and some damning evidence on timelines that really puts the record at odds with what has already been revealed by the Prophet Joseph Smith. I would ask that you please share these episodes with your family and friends who have bought into this record so that they might not be deceived

Mormon theology is full of amazing promises. Some of those promises have to do with new scripture coming forth in the last days. Now that is an exciting prospect. Like many of you I look forward to that time. However, when one says that new scripture that has come forth, we must be very careful. We must make sure that the purported new scripture harmonizes with the principles of the existing cannon of scripture and other principles that have been revealed through the Prophet Joseph Smith. Today on this episode and next week as well I have Justin Francom on to breakdown all six volumes of the Nemenhah Record. We examine the books views on Family Structure, Priesthood, Communing with Deity, Political Ideology, and the books’ view on Joseph Smith, then compare what the book is saying with the already restored truths found in Scripture and from Joseph Smith.

If you were to ask most people off the street what an Orthodox Mormon is they would give a description of what they have saw from mainstream media. The issue with that is the images presented by media really is of only one group. Because of the nature of that business, people often don’t get to see folks in this faith tradition as they really are which is a vibrant people from all walks of life with various talents and abilities that can bless the lives of all of Gods children despite our religious differences. Now I have talked with several people on the podcast about how they ended up believing in and practicing Orthodox Mormonism. Today Tom Bennett joins me on the podcast to talk his journey into Orthodox Mormonism. One of the ways Tom makes his living is as a musician. In the course of our conversation, we talk about his journey from being a Baptist to a member of the LDS Church, his mission for the LDS Church, his journey into fundamentalism, his falling away and return to the Restored Gospel, and how his faith sustains him in the music industry, and along the way we even get hear a couple of songs.

A few weeks back I had a conversation with my friend Ann Hatch and we were talking about things that were going on in the world and what it could all mean. Now I am not a guy who likes to play the game “pin the tail on the apocalypse” but I do think that there are ways that maybe we can gauge where we are by things that are given to us in scripture. Ann had said she had recently read a book that gave her some context for some recent events in Israel and mentioned she might want to talk about it on the podcast. So today she joins me as we talk about what happened in Israel on October 3rd 2023, and if it is possible that a prophecy was fulfilled on that day. We talk about what that prophecy is and what its significance could be for the world at large and us as individuals.

There are some things in Mormonism that are just plain fun to talk about, debate on and think about. One of those topics is Book of Mormon Geography ideas and theories. Meaning where did the events in the Book of Mormon take place. Now while there are many ideas there are really two that seem to draw the most attention one is the Meso-American Model and the other is the Heartland Model. Today’s episode is all about the Heartland Model, and when talking about the Heartland one man stands above all others in that field, his name is Rod Meldrum and lucky for us he agreed to come on the podcast and have a conversation about the Heartland Model. The results are four and half of evidence ranging from Covenants to descriptions from the Book of Mormon its self, to physical evidence, things Joseph Smith has said, and finally to ceremonial structures in the Heartland of America that if you have been endowed should remind of you a few things. Now while you can certainly get a lot from this episode by just listening, I strongly encourage you to head over to the Mormon Renegade Channel at Rumble so you can see all the pictures and slides. Get ready for an absolutely epic mind blowing conversation.

One of the things we all need as disciples of Christ is fellowship with others. This isn’t only because we want someone else to hangout with but because each of has a unique story to tell. One of the things that is so vitally important is to hear from others is how they got to where they are in their spiritual journeys. There are things in those stories that remind us of why we believe what it is we believe. This episode defiantly falls into that category as I sit down and have a conversation with Felipe & Merilynnes and how they came to be converted to the orthodox teachings of Mormonism. We cover Merilynnes upbringing in Utah as a fully active member of the LDS Church, her time in college and on a mission. We then here from Felipe and how he journeyed from being a catholic to a member of the LDS Church and then being introduced to orthodox Mormon teaching and how Felipe & Merilynne grew together while studying those early Mormon teachings. We cover how their families reacted to their conversions and what their experiences have been in living orthodox Mormonism.

One of the reasons I love Mormonism is the idea that God is no respecter of persons. What that means for us is that as God has dealt with His children in the past is how He will deal with us today. This allows us to foster a relationship with Him because we know what He expects of us. Now with that in mind let me ask this question, should we expect to find the Law of Moses before Moses earthly ministry? The answer is of course yes. Today on the podcast Joshua Erickson and I have a conversation about this. Now if you are able I would recommend going to the Rumble channel and listening because Joshua has a lot of slides to go along with our conversation that you might find helpful. During the course of our conversation we look at the life and ministry of the Patriarchs in the Old Testament and find some very compelling evidence that they were practicing Law long before Moses. We wrap it all up at the end by talking about what this should mean for each one of us and our relationship with God.

I believe that one of the things that we as orthodox Mormons are called to is to preserve truths of the Restoration that have been discarded. Now while that statement on the surface seems pretty straight forward it actually is a little more complex than we might think. In order to fulfill that part of our mission it requires us to look at what we do and then make the determination that what in our practices are Doctrine versus Tradition, then to complicate the subject even more we have to ask the question is this a good tradition or a harmful tradition. Sometimes identifying what is tradition versus doctrine is really manifested in how we conduct our worship meetings. On this episode Justin Francom & Adam Hosey join me for a discussion on this very topic. Through the course of our conversation, we cover the good and bad aspects of tradition and how to tell the differences, what the Lord has to say concerning what must be present in our worship services, differences in Mormonism and other religions and finally what we can do to infuse more meaning into our worship meetings.

This week on the podcast Taylor Smith and I finish our conversation about the book The Great Omission which was wrote by a sectarian Christian advocating for plural marriage and boy do we cover a lot of ground in our conversation. We talk about how and why monogamy became the norm in Christianity, Plural Marriage in early Protestantism, Population Collapse and the role it played in the Ukrainian/Russian war and it becoming a problem here in the West, the definition of Patriarchy and what it really is, The omission of Plural Marriage in the King James Bible, the implications for living Plural Marriage today.

There are a lot of beliefs and practices that make Mormonism truly unique the religious world. Certainly, if you were to ask a run of the mill person on the street what makes Mormons different the first thing brought up would be plural marriage. But what if a sectarian Christian wrote a book advocating for plural marriage, what would that look. Like. Well today you are going to find out. Taylor Smith joins me today as we breakdown a book entitled The Great Omission by Clyde L Pilkington. Now to cover this book it is going to take two episodes. In this first part we cover the problem of demographics and ratio of men to women in modern society, Old Testament precedents, New Testament’s evidence, what the New Testament and Christ both say on the topic and all along the way debunk and dispel misconceptions around plural marriage.

Right now, the Plural Marriages deniers are coming out in full force to try and damage the testimony of the truth in as many people as they can. One of the tactics that are used is that they will say that the early sisters that practiced the principle of Celestial Plural Marriage where oppressed, weak, silent women who would never choose such a marriage. Man, if only we had access to those early Sisters thoughts and feelings……oh wait we do! Today on the podcast Kimberly Watson Smith joins me again where we read those early Sisters words (in context) and let those sisters from Church history speak for themselves. Through our conversation what we find is that these women left all of us in the Restoration a proud heritage of faith and that should inspire, uplift, and strengthen our testimonies of not only the principle of Celestial Plural Marriage but also the whole of the teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith.

Well given that the election day is just a few days away I wanted to do an episode not so much on the politics but on what could be at stake this election. To do that I think we need to take a look around the globe and see what’s really happening. Now to help us get a feel on what’s really happening I felt like I needed to talk to someone that is not only in the know, but someone who could provide context for all that is happening. For that heavy lift I reached backout to David Pyne. If you recall I had David on once before earlier this summer and he has an impressive resume where he was National Security Policy Director for Senator Mike Lee, and Defense & Foreign Policy Advisor for former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and that’s just for starters. We have a fascinating conversation about what is really happening with all the conflicts around the globe, what those conflicts could mean for America as a country, what he thinks the likely outcome of the election will be and the ramifications of those elections here in America.

Today on the podcast Michael Ness joins me again as we continue our series on the Old Testament. This episode is all about Noah. For many the Noah story is a simple story. God tells Noah to build an ark, animals come aboard the ark, it rains and floods, Noah’s family is preserved and that’s about it. Well guess what there are some amazing insights that can be gleaned from the Noah account, and we talk about a lot of them on this episode. Through the account of Noah we touch on things such as the nature of God, Biblical origins, the scribes and how the conflict from the Northern and Southern kingdoms of Israel factor into the way the Bible was compiled, and then to really stretch your mind you will hear how the Temple is and Temple theology is woven throughout the entire story of Noah.

So I apologize I didn’t release an episode but I was pretty busy with some pretty cool things last weekend, but we are back today so here we go. We seem to be reaching a point in society that home ownership seems to be getting further out of reach especially for our children and couple that with a desire to get out of a society that seems to be getting farther away from reality and seems to be slipping more and more into chaos it seems like our options are getting pretty slim. But what if it didn’t have to be that way? What if there was a way that we could gather with like-minded people to weather these societal storms. Well today on this episode Jeff Alldredge joins me again to have a conversation about a plan that he has to help people do just that. As we break down his idea it seems to have the ability to be repeatable and scalable for almost all people despite their skillsets or economic situations.

Well today I have Mason Vogel on the podcast to talk about just that. We talk about Mason’s ties to Mormonism, his conversion to the LDS Church, his time as a missionary for the LDS Church, his departure from his mission and the church, and where and what’s he is doing today in his faith journey.

There are certain men in the story of the Restoration who leave a large footprint on Mormonism. Some are theologians, others are leaders, some are scholars. Today we will be talking about just such a man. Ken Peterson joins me for the next two weeks to have a couple of conversations about Hugh Nibley and his teachings. This week will be talking about Nibley’s childhood, his family’s connections to early LDS Church leadership, his education, his mission to germany, his time in the army during world war 2, a near death experience he had, and his time at BYU, and finish up this part by talking about his impact on Mormonism at large.

So I have had the opportunity to meet many families in Mormon Fundamentalism and the vast majority of those families are beautiful, well adjusted, loving families. But I won’t deny that just like monogamous marriages abuse does happen and when it does women and children need help. However not all organizations that offer that help are created equal. This was never more on display than during the days of the wicked priest-tyrant Warren Jeffs. As folks reached out for help to get away from him there were organizations all too eager to help but would do so with strings attached like putting a camera in the survivor’s face and profiting off of their pain for reality T.V. ratings and then berating some of the survivors’ religious beliefs. However, there is one organization that I feel does it right and that is Cherish Families. Cherish Families was founded and is largely staffed by people from polygamous backgrounds both practicing and non-practicing. With their deep understanding of the fears and barriers that people from our faith community can experience, they are compassionate, empathetic, and uniquely qualified to serve the Mormon Fundamentalist community all without profiting off the survivor’s pain or forcing them to denounce their religious beliefs. Today I have Shirlee Draper on from Cherish Families and we have a discussion about how the organization was founded, how they seek to fulfill their mission, and what you could do to help if you feel so inclined.

During our conversation we parse out who Enoch was, how he fits in the timeline of the patriarchs, what some of his heavenly visitations can teach us, and then wrap it all up by talking about what Enoch means to adherents to the restoration.

Sometimes as people when we encounter a problem, we tend to look forward to try to get perspective on the issue we are facing. Now that’s not a bad thing, sometimeshowever the perspective we desire is found behind us. Now let’s look at Mormonism. Could it be that perhaps other religious traditions have gone through something similar that Mormonism has with splits from the mainstream that has led to different groups and churches? Well today I have Justin Francom on to talk about the split that happened in early Christianity that led to the development of what is today known as Eastern Orthodox Christianity. In our conversation we cover the history of the early Christian church, then move on to discuss the reasons and doctrinal disagreements that precipitated the split, we then draw some very interesting connections between the split that happened almost 2,000 years ago to what has happened to Mormonism today that should give us the perspective we need to move forward. Finaly we wrap up by talking about opportunities moving forward that just might help the various groups and independents find common ground while allowing us to disagree more agreeably. That and more on this episode of the MRP.

So a couple weeks ago something came to my attention that I thought deserved to have a spotlight shined on it. A family who lives in the United States told me about a sheriff’s deputy who had made a post on social media where they basically equated all people practicing plural marriage to every type of sexual predator you could imagine. Well as I am apt to do, I reached out to someone way smarter than myself. Today on the podcast I have Randall Edwards on to talk about this. Now not only do we talk about what happened to this family, but we also dive into the legal history of how we got here. During this conversation there are some interesting things that come to light that gives some very interesting insights on the true motivations of those who persecuted those early Latter-Day Saints and some perspective what that means for us today.

There is a movement today in much of the Restoration to either distance itself or in extreme instances completely throw out Brigham Young. The problem is if you throw out Brigham Young you also throw out anything that is uniquely Mormon because its during Brigham’s administration that many of the deeper doctrines of the Restoration taught by Joseph are expounded upon by Brigham Young. So to help talk about the importance of Brigham Young I have put together a powerhouse panel to have this discussion. Joining me for this is Kimberly Watson Smith, Sean Anderson, Jacob Vidrine, & Taylor Smith. We discuss Brigham’s life before he joins the church, his early ministry, his missionary efforts, his pivotal role in the succession crisis, his leadership in getting the saints to the west and finally finish up by talking about what Brigham Young’s legacy and importance is in the Restoration of the Gospel. That’s next on this episode of the MRP.

Now we dig through not only the scriptures of accepted cannon but also into several books of the apocrypha to give this account fuller context and greater understanding. One of the things I really love about Mormonism is that because it has its own culture it has its own stories and traditions. Now it’s up to us to parse out those stories and traditions and then decide if they are doctrine or just ideas. Today on the podcast we are going to cover a topic that will require us to do just that. Back in the early days of the Restoration there was an idea that in the last days a Lamanite prophet would arise and set certain things within Mormonism in what came to be known as the Prophecy of the Lamanite Prophet. Moroni Lopez Jessop joins me fresh off his Sunstone talk about this very subject to take a look at this story and teaching. We cover where this idea started, how it was understood by early Mormons, how it fell out of favor with the LDS Church, how it was kept alive by Mormon Fundamentalists, and what its relevance is today given the gift of hindsight.

There are many things that we find echoes of Mormonism in. If we believe in Joseph Smiths prophetic mantle one place we shouldn’t be surprised is to find those echoes is in the apocrypha. One book of the apocrypha is the Book of Enoch. Today on the podcast I have Adam Stokes on to talk about the Book of Enoch. Adam is not only a believer in the Restoration but also has degrees from Duke & The Yale School of Divinity and is also a professor. He recently has been doing some work on the Book of Enoch. In our conversation we talk about what the Book of Enoch is, how it was found, It doctrinal emphasis, the striking “bullseyes” between the Book Of Enoch and Joseph Smith translations of the Book of Moses, and finally what we as Mormons today can take away from it.

A few months back I had Liz Bradley on the podcast for a first instalment of a series covering certain gospel principles in hopes that we (and when I say we I mean mostly me) can start to clean the junk out of our lives so that we can become the people the Lord needs us to be as times get crazier in these last days. Last time Liz and I had a conversation about forgiveness, now while that topic can be tough this next one will be just as equally challenging as we talk about submitting our will to God. As Liz and I have this conversation we dive into the scriptures, talk about lived life experiences and how this principle can affect our lives for the better here in mortality.

Ok it doesn’t matter where you are at on the Mormon spectrum, Active LDS, Mormon fundamentalist or uncorrelated Mormon this topic applies to us all. I have a had a theory for a while that as a general rule change in the LDS Church doesn’t begin at the top in Salt Lake City. It often begins in Provo at BYU. I think what we are going to talk about today fits that bill. We have known now for a little while that BYU had been pushing evolution not from a place of “hey this is one theory” but more from a “this is the way it is” type of place. Well now we are starting to see the fruits of that. On the shelves of Deseret Book right now is a book entitled “Let’s Talk About Science & Religion”. The books whole thrust is about showing how the theory of evolution and the Restored Gospel are totally compatible. Today Nate Richardson (who by the way has a killer presentation on this) joins me on the podcast as we talk about the book. Now as we have our conversation Nate shows the books obvious fallacies, what early Mormon leaders had to say about the theory of evolution, why the science on this is not settled and then finally wrapping up with what some of the downstream consequences that will most likely occur by adopting the theory of evolution into Mormon theology.

For a few years now I have seen a disturbing trend where some of our youth are being taught (I am looking at you BYU) the idea that Consecration is just communism with a religious angle. To address this Today I have Phil Westerlund on the podcast. Now Phil has led quite a life from his time as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam to his continued career as a helicopter pilot in the private sector. Phil somewhere in the middle of all that has had time to write a book entitled Liberty In Danger (We Must Not Sleep). Phil and have I have conversation about the book which breaks down the 10 points of the communist manifesto and then compares what the scriptures and early LDS leaders had to say on those topics and just kind of a spoiler…they were not fans of the idea. Through the book Phil shows that this idea simply isn’t true and I can’t recommend the book enough for Mormon Families. So I have been wanting to talk to folks who have made the jump to Mormon Fundamentalism and their lived experiences in making those changes. Now to start the series off I have got a real treat for you today as Adam Hosey joins me on the podcast today. Now Adam’s story is pretty unique in that he went from never being a Mormon at all straight into Mormon Fundamentalism. We talk about his childhood, his wilder younger years, the events that led him to realize he needed to make some life changes, to his acceptance of the Restored Gospel. We then move into his experiences and interactions with other fundamentalists while learning more. Now all along the way we get into some pretty deep conversations about Gospel topics, ideas, and doctrines and warp it all by talking about how Adam and his family are adjusting to life in their new faith. All through this conversation with Adam if you’re like me you might start to see that there are those who are ready and willing to embrace the Restored Gospel that we never thought of.

So unless you have been living under a rock you have probably seen on social media somewhere a man named Chief Midegah. He is the Native American gentleman who has been talking about the current plight of the Native Americans and sharing some very interesting connections to Mormonism and today he joins me on the podcast. Now if you want a lot of the doctrine and stories there is defiantly some of that in here. Now as cool as those stories are I wanted to get down to the nuts and bolts of what his vision is going forward to help his people. During our conversation we end up covering some of the current push back he is getting, the history of his people, the Native Americans connection to the Book of Mormon, what are to his plans to help his people and finally an exploration of 3rdNephi 16. That’s

So do ya ever feel overwhelmed with trying to keep up with what’s happening in the world? Well I know I do I mean there are only two active wars going on right now and the most contentious presidential
election in history. I have been looking for someone who could give some perspective on this and was put in contact with David Pyne. Now Davids resume is impressive. Here are some of the highlights He has served in the U.S. Army, Studied National Security at Georgetown, Political Science at BYU, was a former state senate candidate, National Security Policy Director for Senator Mike Lee, and finally Defense & Foreign Policy Advisor for former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. So, you might not always agree with some of his takes but his analysis deserves consideration. We cover everything from the roots of the conflict in Russia and Ukraine, Chinas desire to control Taiwan. It’s pretty insightful commentary that puts all of what is happening into a little bit more perspective. Finaly, we finish up by talking about what this all could mean for the upcoming months and what you and your family can do to prepare.

About a year ago I released two episodes on Joseph Musser with Michael Ness. Recently Cristina Rosetti released her highly anticipated new book about Joseph Musser. Now if you know anything about Cristina you are well aware of her scholarship and how she has approaches the study of Mormon Fundamentalism. She has always done a very good job of portraying us fairly. Well today she joins me again on the podcast as we talk about her new book which covers Musser’s ministry, his personal life, his relationships with the Woolley’s, John Y Barlow, and even end up touching on the organization the new with Rulon Allred. From time to time in our conversation you will get to peek inside to the man he really was and just how much he both loved and sacrificed for the original teachings of the Restored Gospel. After listening to this conversation and reading the book I think you will find that your admiration and appreciation for Musser will only deepen.

So, when we talk about the revelations of Joseph Smith where does your mind go? If you’re anything like me, it goes to the Doctrine & Covenants. Now you’re not wrong in this but what if I said that there was a whole bunch more revelations and teachings from Joseph Smith that rarely ever get looked at because of the hours it would take to catalog and publish those teachings. Man, if only there was a guy who would want to endure that kind of pain to publish those things from Joseph……well luck for us there is. Drew Briney joins me again on the podcast as we talk about his new books the Forgotten Teachings and Insights of Joseph Smith. We talk about how the book came together, how he sourced all the material and how he went about putting the book together. We then go over a few pages of the book and along the way find ourselves in some pretty deep doctrinal discussions as we talk about the Forgotten Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith.

As followers of the Restoration we have a lot of things on our plates that require our attention. We have our callings and church responsibilities, temple work, missionary work, to just name a few and this is on top of just trying to work and raise our families and helping them obtain a testimony of the Restored Gospel. However, this does not excuse us from the other things the Lord has asked us to do. The Book of Mormon from the title page to Jarom, to 3rd Nephi tells us that we have to take the Fullness of the Gospel to Lehi’s posterity. Now let me ask you a question how good have we as Mormons, both LDS and Fundamentalists been at taking the Gospel to Lehi’s posterity? If you’re anything like I kind of shifted uncomfortably in my seat as I contemplated this question. Today on the podcast I have Jeff, Vanessa, & Sharis Alldredge on to talk about this subject. Along the way we cover Mormonism’s interactions with the Native Americans, How we have fallen down on this and what we must do if we desire the blessings of The Lord in the last days.

When you look at any society one of the things that binds those societies together are stories. It has been that way since man first gathered around a fire and talked with other people. Not only do those stories bind us together, they inform us and newcomers to the society what that particular society is about. Today on the podcast I have Christopher Blythe on talk about Mormon lore and stories. Now Christopher has a podcast named Angels & Seerstones that dives into this subject and is one of my favorite podcasts. During our conversation we talk about the importance of stories to society, why it is we find a little reluctance to talk about those stories, I share a very personal story of my own, and even end up exploring the dark side of stories and lore by talking about the Chad & Lori Daybell incident.

Sometimes I think because we are a couple hundred years away from him we assume that Joseph Smith received revelation in a vacuum. Meaning that Joseph would just get revelation on a subject without ever having thought about the subject beforehand. Now I certainly am not saying that those types of revelation never happened, but I think history shows that many times revelation came as Joseph would ponder upon a subject then ask the Lord and then the revelation would come. Today I have Cheryl Bruno on the podcast as discuss Joseph Smith and Masonry. Now many of us in Mormonism get a little bit beat up over Joseph being a Mason by our evangelical brothers and sisters. Well today Cheryl puts some of this to rest as we discuss what masonry’s role was in 19th century America, what Joseph’s interactions were with Masonry, what it was he saw in masonry, and what it means for us as Mormons today. Now as unsettling as subject seems to be on the surface, I am sure by the end you will come out on the other side even more convinced of Joseph Smith’s prophetic calling.

In the Gospel of Matthew chapter 24 verses 23 & 24 the Savior himself warns us in the last days that there would be many that would come along to try and deceive the followers of Christ. Well, I am not breaking any news here, but those days are here. Be that Phil Davis who started the doctrine of Christ movement, Denver Snuffer, or any other of the various leaders of some of these movements that have sprung up they all seem to have one thing in common and that is they all seem to claim an experience with the Savior without following the patterns & ordinances the Lord established through the Prophet Joseph Smith to have those experiences. Today on the podcast Taylor Smith joins me to talk about an essay that is in the works that tackles this very subject. Taylor breaks down the scriptures and teachings from Joseph Smith & other early Mormon leaders that clearly talks about the criteria needed to have experiences with the Second Comforter and shows that without certain ordinances those visitations are not possible. Now along the way we find that we touch on everything from the Adam-God Doctrine to Freemasonry. So buckle up for an epic conversation that just may spare you or your loved ones the pain of being deceived

If your Mormon, and when I say that I mean anyone who is LDS, Fundamentalist, or any of the other various branches there are certain doctrines within the Restored Gospel that make Mormonism what it is. Now many if not all of those unique Mormon doctrines can be traced right back to the Prophet Joseph Smith. Now one sermon Preached by Joseph Smith specifically has shaped Mormon beliefs and thoughts perhaps more than any other. In the spring of 1844 Joseph Smith delivered the King Follett discourse and forever changed the trajectory of Mormonism. Today on the podcast I have Ben Shaffer back on the podcast and we have a discussion about what was taught in the discourse, what it means for us today and the impact it has had on Mormon doctrine and thought at large, that’s next on this episode of the MRP

Archeology is the study of human history and prehistory. A couple of principles within archeology that should interest us as Mormons are migrations (the study of historical human migrations) and diffusion (the study of how human ideas and practices are transmitted from one distinct group of people to another). If the Book of Mormon is true, we should expect to see at least echo’s of migration and diffusion in the Americas. Now what if I told you that there seems to be some evidence of migration and diffusion between ancient America and Carthage (modern-day Tunisia)? Interested yet? Well, what if I also told you that that same evidence might also have a connection to the story of Mulek in the Book of Mormon? I bet if your anything like me you’re interested now. There are a group of people from very different walks of life who have come together to study this evidence. They are John Lefgren, Mike & Betty LaFontaine, Blaise Colasante, & all the way from Tunisia Eryj Ben Sassi and they all join me on the podcast today to discuss their findings that if correct could not only change the historical narrative of the United States but also could lend evidence for the historicity of the Book of Mormon.

One of the things that often rocks the testimony of Mormons is when the historicity of the Book of Mormon is questioned, and it appears that there are some conflicts between science and the Book of Mormon. The truth is however that usually what is thrown into question isn’t the historicity of the Book of Mormon itself but rather narratives that we as individuals read into the text. This is never more on display than when the issue of DNA raised as a critique to the Book of Mormon. I mean if the Book of Mormon is true and details the account of a Middle Eastern family’s settlement of a portion of the New World, we should expect that DNA from Middle Eastern people and some native American populations should match right? Well maybe not as much as you would think. Ken Peterson joins me again on the podcast to break all of this down. By the end I think you might find out like I did that many of the so-called conflicts between the Book of Mormon and DNA research are more conflicts between the narratives we read into the Book of Mormon and the DNA research then with the text itself.

Well, there’s a lot happening in the world in the coming weeks and months. We have the eclipse happening the day this episode will drop, an upcoming presidential election that promises to be the most if not one of the most contentious in our nation’s history, two proxy wars we are involved in and economic and social instability at home. As I have the opportunity to talk to a number of different people from all sorts of faith traditions the one thing that always comes through to those people even a little bit tuned into to God and that is that there isa feeling that we are hurtling towards an event. Now while it is true that no man know man knows the day or hour of the Saviors return the Lord in his mercy has given us some signs to look for that will give us an indication on where we are at along the road. One of those signs are talked about in Doctrine & Covenants section 13 where the Lord talks about the Sons of Levi offering up sacrifices again in righteousness. What if I told you that one of the big barriers to that happening has been removed? Today on the podcast Joshua Erickson joins me to have a conversation about the re-emergence of the Red Heifer. We talk about the animal’s significance in the Old Testament, The animals re-emergence and the miraculous events surrounding its reappearance, why the red heifer is necessary, and even how this animal was a catalyst for the Hamas attack in Israel back in October, and finally what all this could mean in regards to the Saviors return.

So there has been a lot of revisionist history that has made its way into Mormon circles as of late in conjunction with this, it has required those pushing these false narratives to either twist or flat out lie about what the scriptures say. With this in mind I want to address some of the lies and wishful thinking. One of the more pernicious ideas is that scripture denounces the practice of celestial plural marriage. Well today I have Jacob Vidrine back on the podcast to address this idea. Jacob and I will breakdown the scriptures (in context) to give you a fuller picture of what the scriptures have to say and not say about the practice of celestial plural marriage. Towards the end of the podcast, I name names of those pushing this narrative and also the repercussions of buying into those lies. Grab a pen and paper to take some notes so you can push back on these lies when they arise.

So about ten years ago I remember sitting around the dinner table with my kids and I remember they said something about the Founding Fathers that was just patently false. I asked where they heard such a
thing and they said school. This caused me to look at their curriculum and what I discovered was that certain power brokers on the left had infiltrated public schools and one of their agendas was to discredit the founders so they could “progress” past the constitution. Unfortunately, we are now seeing the same thing happening to Mormonism. There is a movement right now within Mormonism (The Doctrine of Christ Group) that is doing at best revisionist history and at worst just telling flat out lies about Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, John Taylor and others that were so influential and vital to the Restoration in those early days. They are doing this to discredit that early leadership, by discrediting them they then can turn the Restored Gospel into something that appeals more to their own hearts desires. This type of tactic is not only wrong but insidious. Now a while back Justin Griffin and Taylor Smith had a debate about Griffin’s movie “Who Killed Joseph Smith” where Griffin accuses John Taylor & Willard Richards of killing Hyrum & Joseph. But darn it wouldn’t you know it Griffin marked that debate as private. Well, no need to worry because Taylor still has his copy and is still available on his YouTube Chanel. Today Taylor joins me on the podcast to have a discussion about the debate. During the course of our conversation, as we breakdown the high points of that debate I think it will become apparent why Griffin might not want this out and circulating. Oh, and just for good measure I have included the link to the full debate in the show notes.

As Mormons, whatever branch you might be part of we all have a special commission. We have our personal callings that the Lord gives us, but we also have one that is universal to us all and that is to be the people to help others come to know Christ. As time gets shorter and Gods work continues to hasten, we must be the people that can effectively minister to others. To do this however means that we must be as spiritually heathy as we can be. This means we must clean out the crap in our lives. With that in mind I wanted to go over a few principles that I believe can helps us do that. To help me with this series I am bringing Liz Bradley back on the podcast for this series. Liz is life coach who approaches emotional health from Gospel centered point of view. Today Liz and I have a conversation about forgiveness. As we have our conversation it becomes apparent that this principle might be ground zero to help us have healthier relationships and free us up to become the people we need in these last days.

So here we are at the conclusion of the series on the Life & Times Of John W. Taylor. As Michael Ness finish up our conversation there is some amazing historical information dropped that should forever change the conversation around how much Joseph F. Smith new about Post-Manifesto Plural Marriage during his administration. We then dive into the fall out of John W. Taylors excommunication, Francis Lyman’s inquisition of those living and solemnizing plural marriages and along the way there is some pretty pointed questions asked about Mormon hierarchy during this time, and we wrap it all up by talking about what John W. Taylors impact was on not only Mormon Fundamentalists but also the LDS Church as well. That’s next on this episode of the MRP.

So about a year ago I had an experience that freaked me out a little bit. After saying something about global warming and that I wasn’t sure it was all caused by humans I received a strike on YouTube. A few months later I received another strike for questioning the Covid vaccine. It was for these reasons I went to Patreon. Now it’s been a little more than a year and I think the move to Patreon was good because I could not have started the news show without it. However, it came at a cost. That cost was I could not share the news program, or the videos as freely as I would have liked since it was behind a paywall. In the last year I looked into a few different options, and I think I have found a solution.
Starting March 16th all of my videos for both the podcast and news program will be available to view for free on the Mormon Renegade Rumble Channel. Now why Rumble? After just watching how they conduct business in allowing different view points on the platform without censorship, and after talking to a few folks I truly feel and believe they are committed to preserving a space which is committed to free speech.
Ok so with that in place here is what this move means to you the audience. From now until March 16th we will be migrating over all the videos to Rumble many of which are available right now. With that from this point forward all the videos I do, both for the Mormon Renegade Podcast as well as the weekly news show (which we have decided to call Fundamental News) will be available to watch for 100% free!!!!
Now these are the two things I do that I feel are of the most importance to you the audience. However I would still like to recapture some of the funds that I spend each month on the podcast and new show. So to help recapture the costs of everything I do I will be offering a few options that you the audience can purchase if you find value in them and here is how that will work.
First I will be closing down the Mormon Renegade Patreon account. I will now be using a similar plat form for the for pay items at the Mormon Renegade Locals page. Locals works very closely with Rumble so it makes it pretty easy and seamless for my purposes.
Now let me tell you what all will be available on the Mormon Renegade Locals page. First Transcripts of the podcast will be available there. Second starting on April 4th every week on Thursdays at 7:00 PM Central I will be live streaming on the Locals page where you the audience and myself will be able to interact live where you can ask me any and all questions, well except for my brisket rub recipe. Somethings are just to sacred to talk about but other than that I welcome your questions and the opportunity to connect more with you the audience. Third about once a quarter there will be What we are calling Renegade Specials. The special presentations will be with other creators who will take deep dives on subjects that will be super interesting and timely to you the audience.
Now here is the coolest part for you the audience. All the media I just explained to you will be available to you to buy for just $5.00 dollars a month. That’s it, no hidden cost, no tiers or options to buy, just $5.00 dollars a month gets you access to all those items.
Also, in the coming weeks I will be giving you some information on The Mormon Renegade Merch Store. You will be able to buy shirts, hats, mugs, water bottles, and anything else I can shamelessly self-promote with. Oh, and those shirts will have a few designs that are really funny as well as a little edgy.
Again I am always more grateful to you the audience then you will ever know. I am thankful for the time you spend listening and watching all the content that is produced, as well as for your continued support. I am super excited to be able to share the video content with you for free as well as to offer you more affordable options for more content.

Ok I got an amazing conversation for you today. If you remember back to the first episode, I ever did Drew Briney it was about an amazing project that he was working on making an annotated version of the Doctrine & Covenants. Well today Drew comes back on to the podcast to have a conversation about the latest installment of that project, D&C 42. D&C 42 is all about Consecration and United Order. As we breakdown how Drew went about annotating this particular section, we dive head long into what the early leaders of the LDS Church thought about these principles, how it was lived in both the Missouri & Utah periods and what our responsibilities we have as Mormons today have in regards to Consecration & United Order.

So we are now on episode number 4 of the series we are doing on the Life and Times Of John W. Taylor. On this episode Michael Ness and I cover a part of Mormon history where the tides really begin to change on the Churches unofficial stance on plural marriage. Now there are two things that really come through on this episode. One is the “band of brothers” mentality that some of the more ardent defenders of the principle had in the quorum of the twelve and even more inspiring than that is perhaps outside of Joseph Smith a personal Christ-like sacrifice made by John W. Taylor and ultimately a betrayal of that sacrifice by some members in the quorum of the twelve that gets my blood boiling and causes me to get a little spicy.

Through out time every murderous dictator has always made sure that special attention was paid to win the hearts and minds of the youth. Mao had the Red Guards, Stalin had the RKSM, and Hitler had the Hitler Youth. Now let me ask you a question. If all of these dictators had a plan for kids, do you think the adversary of us all might have a program dedicated to our youth? If you’re like me the answer is yes. Now if you have any doubts this just look around at how children conduct themselves. When we look objectively at this I think it becomes clear that we are in a war for our children against the adversary. One of his best weapons in this war for our children is to create the absence of parental guidance to our children. Today Nate Richardson comes on the podcast to discuss the collapse of parenting. We go over what our children participating in, what they are exposed to, how the adversary has taken parents out of their roles, and finally what we can do as parents to pick our mantles as parents to fight this war for the souls of our children.

So in the last two episodes of this series on the life and times of John W. Taylor you have gotten a master class in Mormon history around the times just preceding and post manifesto. We continue that series today. Last time we left off with pretty much the whole upper leadership of the LDS Church being involved in post manifesto plural marriage. Today Michael Ness and I pick back up in that history. In this episode we cover how small cracks begin to form in the upper leadership, next we dive into a practice that John W Taylor started that would plant the seeds of modern Mormon Fundamentalism, we finish up this part of our conversation by illuminating some history that shows how Heber J Grant went from ardent supporter of post manifesto plural marriage to its most active persecutor.

So next week we will pick back up on the John W. Taylor story with Michael Ness.
No matter who I talk to, folks from the LDS Church, Mormon Fundamentalists, Baptists, Lutherans, or Catholics one thing seems to be very evident and that is if we are tuned in even a little bit to God we all have the sense that society and the world are hurtling towards an event that feels like it is picking up speed and intensity. Now if we are a religion that focuses on Jesus Christ our minds naturally and rightfully so turn to His Second Coming. Today on the podcast I have on Morgan Philpot. Morgan is a former attorney and Utah Legislator. Because he has been in these circles and is also a devout follower of the Savior, he has some pretty interesting insights. Morgan has put together a really compelling timeline for last days events that I think is worth some conversation. In this episode we have a discussion about that timeline as we explore these themes we also touch on Ezra’s Eagle, and also some striking parallels between the southern kingdom of Judah and also some events from third Nephi to modern day Utah. As Morgan draws these parallels, they point to some things happening to Utah that is not ideal. Towards the end of this episode, I make a major announcement concerning me and my family so you will want to stick around for that for sure.

Today we continue with our series on John W. Taylor and the history that surrounds his life. On today’s episode we cover a truly fascinating time in Mormon History. We left off last time right as the LDS Church was about to sign the Manifesto. Well today we are going to go over that and also how the LDS Church continued to perform Plural Marriages. We cover how the LDS Church tried to keep this practice hidden, the colonies in Mexico and Canada, and how the LDS Church compartmentalized information so that the practice could continue. If you have ever wondered just how much the LDS Church was involved in Post-Manifesto Plural Marriage stick around and prepare to have your perceptions shattered.

So last year Michael Ness and I sat down and had a conversation about Joseph W Musser. I got a lot of great feedback from that episode. With that in mind I decided that I wanted to put out more content like that which dealt with Mormon Fundamentalist history and its prominent players. This time Michael joins me again as we discuss John W Taylor. Now we anticipate that this will be a two- or three-part series, on this first instalment about John W Taylor we cover all the events that led up to John W Taylors ministry. Buckle up because you are about to get a master class in the time period around the persecution of those early saints by the United States government which would ultimately give rise to the Manifesto. By the end of this episode, you will have a greater understanding of those persecutions and in turn our own history as Mormon Fundamentalists.

I firmly believe that what our nation is facing right is all do to a plan that was enacted almost one hundred years ago. The progressives sought to “help society progress past the constitution”. Now these people were patient. However, every so often during that one hundred there would be moments that the plan would be accelerated. I believe the decade of the 1960’s were one of those times. Now while certainly most people in America during the sixties were still conservative it would be a time when we could start to see the fabric of society begin to fray. Now we find ourselves in a place where the Haight-Ashbury type hippies of that decade are now in control of the government. To understand the problem fully and come up with a solution we must look back at the problem. On this episode I am joined by author Jonathan Leaf. Jonathan has written a book titled “The Politically Incorrect Guide To The Sixties. During our conversation we break down some of the ideas and political policies that have changed our society forever.

Utah is perhaps the most unique state in the union. It is a state where not only freedom is embraced but carrys a belief that freedom and rights come from God. Now this has served Utah well for a long time. Unfortunately, this also attracts unwanted attention for those who want to subvert these founding ideals. They feel like if they can turn Utah left they can get it done anywhere. On this episode I have Utah’s political watch-dog Chelcie Hope back on the podcast to talk about all the crazy, socialist policies trying to be implemented on the down low. Some of these updates are absolutely explosive. No matter if you live in Utah or not pay close attention because the tactics used here are used everywhere.

If you remember about this time last year I had the opportunity to sit down and have a conversation with Julie Behling. At that time Julie had just wrote the book Beneath Sheep’s Clothing which uncovered the various tactics the far-left uses to indoctrinate children in public education. Well she is comes back on the podcast to talk about the documentary that was made from the book. We talk about new things she had learned about the far-lefts plot, the heavy hitters she worked with from the Freedom Movement, and where and how to support the film.

This week Hulu dropped a new documentary about Ervil LeBaron. I think over all the documentary was pretty well done. However, it was produced in a way that would appeal to a very large audience and had to be told in a way that would make sense to a largely non-mormon audience. I had other questions about this story. Mainly what was happening inside the Joel LeBaron’s Church of The First Born that set the table for Ervils insanity. Fortunately for me DeWayne Hafen has just published a book on the subject. DeWayne was a member of that church and got to see firsthand how things went off the rails. In this episode DeWayne and I talk about the LeBaron family, How Joel established the Church of the First Born in Mexico, what Ervils role in that church was, and the surrounding tensions that ultimately led to Ervil ordering the deaths of many people. My hope is that by examining all of these topics we as Mormons can take away some lessons and be on guard so nothing like this ever again happens in Mormonism.

There are so many cool things about Mormonism. Plurality of Gods, Priesthood, Ascension to Godhood, Temple ordinances and on and on it goes. Perhaps one the most misunderstood of theses are seer stones. Many a Mormon has become a little freaked out about the topic and understandably so. I mean it’s not something that seems to be in the Christian vernacular a whole bunch. None the less we know that Joseph Smith used one as did Brigham Young so there’s certainly something to it and it deserves our attention. On this episode I have Kevin Kraut back on the podcast to talk about this very subject and I can’t think of a better for it. I mean his dad literally wrote the book on the subject. We cover the biblical history of seer stones, the use of them by Joseph Smith and other early Mormon leaders. From there we then have a conversation about how they were used and how they fit into the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Well its December 23, You didn’t really think that I would let Joseph’s birthday come and go without having an episode about him did ya? Joseph Smith weather you love him or hate him has had influence on the entire world for the last 218 years and that has no sign of changing. Today Ken Peterson joins me on the podcast to talk about perhaps Joseph’s most profound revelations and that is Temple theology. We look at Joseph’s theology then go back in time all the way to ancient Egypt where we see striking parallels between the two, we then have a conversation about Temple work in the restoration, we finally wrap the episode by talking about Joseph Smith’s impact on the world and what his teachings on temples really mean for us as Mormons as a group and individually.

Today on the podcast we are going to talk about some pretty heady stuff so if you haven’t already you might want to sign up for the Six-dollar Patreon option so you can get the transcript and hit all the scriptural references here. On this episode I have Sean Anderson on the podcast to talk about the One-Man Doctrine. We cover what it is, the history of it in Mormonism, where the idea sprouts from and its implications. We then take a deep dive into scripture and history and what we find is that scripture might be saying something completely different than what many of us had supposed. Because this conversation touches so heavily on the ideas of keys and authority, we are forced to take a pretty significant dive into the second anointing, and the principles of priesthood keys and presiding. For many years if you were a Mormon who wanted to practice Mormonism outside the mainstream LDS Church you could bet that you would encounter push back. Well today we live in a different world where that push back for the most part is gone. Now this is all well and good but we who enjoy being able to live Mormonism outside the LDS Church owe a debt of gratitude to those older generations that have preserved the truth for us. The best way I can think of repaying that debt is to now come out of the shadows and let our voices be heard. Today I sit down and have a conversation with a woman trying to do just that. Sara Decker comes on to talk about her new podcast “From The Dust”. We talk about here experience in the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ, How & why she made the decision to separate from the LDS Church, Where she got the idea to make a podcast, & what the podcast will cover. Along the way we stop to discuss a wide range of Gospel Principles.

So, the second or third episode I ever did of this podcast was about me. After a few months I just didn’t like it, so I took it down. I also never wanted the podcast to be about me, I wanted it to be about Mormon history and Mormon doctrine. Well fast forward a year and a half and I have had several requests for that episode. About the same time, I was approached by Greg Knight about him interviewing me for his magazine The Fundamentalist. So, I thought “well crap let’s kill two birds with one stone and combine the two.” So today I am publishing that interview. So, if you ever wanted to know how I got behind this mic here ya go. That’s next on this episode of the MRP.

I have just a quick announcement I need to make here.
For those who have listened to this podcast from the beginning you know that for the last few years me and my family have attended church at The Righteous Branch of The Church Of The Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or as they are often referred to The Peterson Group. As of about three weeks after ago after a lot of prayer and family discussion me and my family have made the decision to no longer attend Church there or be members of that church. For the foreseeable future will be independent Mormons where we will be attending sacrament meetings and other functions with other independent people and families.
Now I thought long and hard if this is something I should even make public. After a lot of prayer and talking with my family I decided that this announcement was something I should do for two main reasons.
The first reason was that I have always told you the listener that I would be open and authentic with you and that you should always get your own answers and never rely on anything you hear on the podcast. I try to keep my own opinions out of the podcast as much as possible mainly to keep the podcast not about me but about the topics I choose to cover. Unfortunately, no matter how hard I try sometimes my own beliefs and opinions do come out through the podcast. That said I do feel like you the listener knowing this information will provide you context on certain beliefs & doctrine I hold to be true when they come through the podcast.
NOW THIS WILL IN NO WAY EFFECT THE PODCAST AND WEEKLY EPISODES WILL CONTINUE TO BE PRODUCED AND DELIVERED!!

Today we are going to pick back up on the Word of Wisdom series. Later in this series I plan on having a fitness expert on to talk about exercise and over all physical health. Now if you recall a few weeks ago we talked about what the Word of Wisdom says about the consumption of meat with Joshua Erickson. Well today Joshua comes back on the podcast as we talk about wine. We talk about its prescription in the Word of Wisdom, from there we take an even deeper dive into what constitutes a sacrament, then our conversation turns to the Old and New Testaments as well as the Book of Mormon to see what scripture has to say about wine and its symbology in the Restored Gospel. That and more on this episode of the MRP.

One of the biggest things we as fundamentalists watch for is changing ordinances. As Joseph Smith said, “If there is no change of ordinances, there is no change of priesthood.” Now this seems simple on the surface but when does something become a change, verses cleaning up the language of an ordinance? Well today I have Drew Briney back on the podcast to talk about his new book “Changing Ordinances, Changing Priesthood?” that tries to explain just that. Drew breaks down historical incidences of change both in and out of the LDS Church and evaluates what those changes mean to us as Mormons and disciples of Christ.

Christopher Layton who is an Apostle of the TLC & I have a conversation about the group’s founder Jim Harmston, Christophers conversion to the TLC, the history of the group from its inception to the present, some of the challenges they have faced and finish up by talking about some of the unique doctrines of the TLC. Well it’s a big day on the podcast its episode #100. Yep I know I didn’t think I would get this far either. I have a few special announcements on this podcast that I really need you to hear. These announcements will be made right after the into commercials on this episode. Ok moving on to this episode. Joseph Smith is obviously the man when we talk about the Restoration. He wore a lot of hats in his ministry. The one we are most familiar with is that of prophet. So, if Joseph Smith is a prophet we should expect to see some of his prophecies fulfilled. Well today I have Brian Stutzman to talk about a book he has written that explores the fulfilled prophecies of the Prophet Joseph Smith. We cover Brian’s backstory just a bit then dive right into some of Joseph’s prophecies that we have seen come to pass. Towards the end we discuss what this all means for believers in the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ and Joseph Smith’s legacy. That and more on this episode of the MRP

So today we are going to pick backup with the Exploring the Branches of Fundamentalism Series. Today on the podcast have Seth Laub. Seth is the grandson of the man who first received a call from the Lord to go back to Missouri and begin to establish a settlement of Mormon Fundamentalists. In this episode we cover the genesis of the move to Missouri, the hardships, struggles, and miracles that accompanied the move out there. From there we cover significant events that happened as what started off from a handful of family became to be a thriving community of Mormon Fundamentalists, we then finish up talking about how this group of fundamentalists ended up building a fundamentalist temple in rural Missouri. As you listen to this episode, I think you will be amazed at how similar of their experiences have been to the early days of the restoration.

I love hanging out with my family, I love learning about the Gospel, I like watching football while eating Doritos and washing it down with an ice-cold diet Pepsi and really like smoking brisket and grilling steak. As a Mormon Fundamentalist who believes that we need to let our light shine as a people I always love to see when others get out front and start projects that look to make life richer for other fundamentalists. Today I have on a couple of men that are seeking to do just that. Greg Knight and Chad Hyde come on the podcast to talk about an ambitious plan to have a periodical both digitally and in print. During our conversation we cover each of their journeys into Mormon Fundamentalism, What was the motivation behind their plan for a Mormon Fundamentalist Magazine, What kind of content the magazine will have, and finally what their ultimate hope and goal is for themagazine.

So there are certain things I never thought I would have to deal with when started this podcast. One of the things that took me by surprise were emails from listeners asking me if I knew someone they could go and talk to to try and improve their family relationships. I looked around and there weren’t too many councilors I felt comfortable referring Mormon Fundamentalists to. I did however find someone who I think could be a Godsend to some. Her name is Liz Bradley. I talked with Liz quite a bit before I had her on the podcast to just make sure she was who I thought she was. Liz is an Emotional Breakthrough coach who is interested in helping people heal through a religious lens rather than just trying to mask symptoms. In our conversation we talk about what the difference is between what she does versus a traditional councilor, how and what made her set up her own practice, how the atonement of Jesus Christ factors into her techniques for helping people heal emotionally we also discuss other tools and techniques she employees in helping people. I have Taylor Smith on the podcast to discuss two new websites that contains two essays he wrote about race and the priesthood. Those websites are https://blacksandthepriesthood.com and https://priesthoodban.com. We cover the essays themselves focusing on The Historical, Scriptural, Rational, and Revelatory Examinations. Now since last week’s episode I have received countless messages and emails asking what my thoughts on the issue you are. Well first I want to say that it shouldn’t matter what I think, I am not your priest, rabbi, bishop, or prophet. These are issues that folks need to study for themselves, pray about and then get their own answers, however at the end I will tell the audience where I land on this.

The topic of the debate is the Priesthood Ban. In the debate Justin & Jacob debate the Identity of Canaanites? What is The Curse of Cain? When I was first exploring Mormon Fundamentalism, I found that the search was hard to find people and groups to talk to. It seemed to be just the nature of most fundamentalists to be kind of on the down low and that was for good reason based on all the persecution that the community had endured. I just remember being frustrated that there wasn’t a place to go where I could and just read about the groups and their different ideas and history. Well today on the podcast I have on Michael & Nichole Sundals. They are spearheading a project that seeks to do just that through a new website they are building. We talk about their journey into Mormon Fundamentalism, how they felt inspired to do what they are engaged in, What the vision is for their project. We also then take a deep dive into what Michael & Nichole believe as far as doctrine and priesthood authority.

Allred down to the present and exploring notable events that happened during their respective administrations. We then move on to talk about the culture of the AUB, where we discuss their various communities, activities, along with practices around courtship and marriage. We then finish up by having a conversation about doctrine’s that are held by the AUB all the while taking time to discuss gospel principles.

I know it’s only Wednesday, but because of the timeliness of the issue I felt like I needed to get this one out ASAP. Now don’t worry I will still be releasing another episode on Saturday as well, it’s just one of those weeks where you will be getting two episodes. Now if you’re a Mormon and unless you have been living under a rock, I am sure you have heard the noise about Tim Ballard and the dust up he has been having with the LDS Church. What this seems to be doing is dividing people into camps and factions in all of Mormonism. Well today I have on Justin Francom to help not just breakdown the story but also to get down to the root of the problem here and it all comes down to one thing and that is idolatry.

Next week we will be picking back up with our exploring the Branches of Fundamentalism series and trust me you will not want to miss next week’s episode so stay tuned for that. But on this episode, I wanted to explore another Gospel topic.
As Mormons we all seem to have baked into our spiritual DNA a longing for Zion. Over time however the definition of what Zion actually is has changed. Zion went from an actual place in time and space to some sort of weird ethereal idea of building Zion in our hearts and homes or wherever the Saints gather. That however isn’t really accurate when you look at statements from the leaders of the founding generation of Mormonism. Today on the podcast I have on Jesse Fisher. Jesse is a devout member of the LDS Church who has written a book called Champions for Zion which takes quotes from early leaders of the LDS Church and puts the idea of Zion back in its proper context. Not only do we talk about Jesse’s book and some of those early teachings about Zion but we also have a very interesting conversation about a project that he is a part of to build communities (not affiliated with the LDS Church) that are stepping stones to Zion type communities.

Go To http://patreon.com/MormonRenegade368 For Exclusive Content One of the reasons I love Mormonism so much is because it is more than just a church. It’s not enough just to show up on Sunday throw a couple of bucks in the collection plate, listen to a sermon, and shake some hands. Mormonism is a community, almost a counterculture with its own language, culture, and practices. Sometimes I think we forget that it was designed that way by the Lord. We see this most often in our early history. That was never more evident than when the early pioneers of the Church tried to do something truly radical in creating a new alphabet. This week I have Joshua Erickson back on the podcast to cover the Deseret Alphabet. We cover its history, its purpose, and ultimately its demise which I think carries with it a warning for us today as Mormons. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dave-kirkenbower/support
When I first left the LDS Church I remember looking around for a place to go worship on Sundays with my family. As I looked around there weren’t exactly big fundamentalist church buildings on every corner. This meant I had to really search around and dig to find folks. Now for guy like me who is maybe just a little bit lazy and who likes his recliner, a bag of Doritos, and football a little too much it felt a little daunting. I remember thinking while searching “man I wish I knew where to look”. Well starting today I am hoping to make that search for other folks a little bit easier as I begin a series of episodes on different Mormon Fundamentalist Churches.
Today I have Stephen Nielsen on the podcast. Stephen is in the leadership of a Mormon Fundamentalist Church called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints & The Kingdom of God also called the Nielson-Naylors. During our conversation we cover Stephen’s personal history (which I have to say is absolutely fascinating since it covers a lot of modern-day history in the Fundamentalist Movement), & then move on to cover what the Nielsen-Naylors believe and some of their practices. Along the way in the conversation, we somehow managed to touch on a large number Gospel topics and ideas. I learned a lot in this conversation from Stephen, and side note I attended Church with the Nielson-Naylors recently and they were just as warm and friendly as Stephen was.

Last week I released the first episode of a two-part seiries on the life and ministry of Joseph Musser. We covered his Father, his birth, his upbringings, early life and concluded with the episode with his 1909 inquisition by the Quorum of the Twelve. Now to my surprise this episode generated quite a bit of conversation. Well, I think this episode might actually get the same amount if not more buzz than the last. Michael Ness joins me again as he breakdown not only the rest of Musser’s life but also a deep dive into Musser’s teachings on a variety of subjects. If you thought last week’s episode had some amazing insight and history you ain’t seen nothing yet.

So, I have to tell you I am super excited for theses next two episodes. This week and next week I will be releasing episodes about a man who in my estimation might be considered the godfather of 95% of Mormon Fundamentalism, Joseph W Musser. I have on Michael Ness who has done some amazing research and knows his stuff on Musser. On this part 1 on Musser, we discuss Musser’s early life as a boy, including his interactions with pioneer era leaders of the LDS Church, the role and example his father played in his life, his entering into plural marriage post-manifesto, and his 1909 disciplinary council. Along the way in this conversation, you will become a witness through Musser of a time in the LDS Church where the fulness of the Gospel was trying to be lived while enemies of the fulness are applying pressure both within and without the LDS Church. As the events that would forever alter the course of the LDS Church are taking place Brother Musser is right in the middle of it all. On this episode not only will you come to a better understanding of Brother Musser but also the Mormon Fundamentalist Movement as a whole.

Joseph Smith gets judged harshly by historians and ex-Mormons alike. They will often employ tactics such a presentism to make their arguments. This is where we try to take historical figures out of the time in which they lived and judge them based on our own times. The result is a slanted view of history without considering historical context. Also, when it comes to Joseph Smith’s plural marriage historians and ex-Mormons paint Joseph Smith as a predator preying on the women that would become his wives. The shocking truth is when you read the words of his wives you soon conclude that they were not victims of a predator but strong, faithful, articulate women. This inconvenient fact then leads to the conclusion that Joseph Smith was not the sexual predator that some have supposed. On this episode I have Hannah Stoddard back on the podcast to talk about her new book which is a biography of perhaps his most controversial wife Helen Mar Kimball. As always Hannah breaks down her life in a scholarly way taking into account historical context and using primary sources to tell the tale of her life. Stick around for fascinating conversation that will be sure to change some minds on this wife of the Prophet Joseph Smith.

So, no matter how you feel about the events and persons the movie Sound of Freedom is based on the fact remains that the movie did far better than what was expected. I mean, it knocked off Indiana Jones now couple that with the success of the TV show The Chosen and now we can see a pattern. That pattern is that society as a whole is starving quality entertainment of real spiritual substance. Today on the podcast I have David W. Patton and Michael Ness. Now if you remember about a year ago, I had David on the podcast. He is an independent film maker who was starting the process of making a movie about Joseph Smith. Well, the plans on that have changed and it will now be a six-season series with Michael Ness helping out to help ensure historical accuracy. We talk about the state of the mainstream film industry today, how these two men plan on making a series about Joseph Smith that is historically accurate, the blessings they have seen in the process, and how you the listener can get involved to help the series get made. Along the way in our conversation, we also talk about how story telling is important to a society, the need for true history to be told, and some pretty interesting tangents about Joseph Smith

I have noticed that history is way more cyclical than linear, especially when it comes to how we as people interact with God. We keep seeing things happen again and again. On this episode I have Lou on the podcast as we continue the series on Mormon Fundamentalism in Europe. Lou is a Mormon Fundamentalist who lives in the United Kingdom. I had two take aways from this episode. First, I think just like what happened in the early days of the Restoration God is inspiring people in Europe to wake up to the Fulness of the Restored Gospel which I think could lead to another wave of Mormons from overseas coming to the United States. Second when I hear everything Lou is doing, I realize what a slouch I was at his age.

Ok if you haven’t gone to the Mormon Renegdae Patreon Page and signed up for at least the 6 dollar package you might want to do that for this episode. One of the tactics commonly used by detractors of the Restored Gospel is to call into question the veracity of the Book of Abraham. They will tell you that it was simply a work of fiction based on the imagination of the Prophet Joseph Smith when he bought some Mummies. However, those detractors aren’t giving you the full story or being completely forth coming with all the evidence. This serves to cause some people to doubt and lose their testimony of the Restored Gospel without ever hearing the full story. Well on this episode I have Ken Peterson back on the podcast and we are going to do our best Paul Harvey and give the rest of the story on the Book of Abraham with all the information in context. By the end of this podcast, you will be able to come away not only still believing in the Book of Abraham but also knowing that the books historicity is not in doubt.

Happy Independence Day!!! I am not breaking any news here when I tell you that Liberty has never been in such a precarious place as it is today. We have bad actors from every walk of life looking to curtail you rights and liberty, from big tech, to government, to public private partnerships. Well today on this Independence Day I wanted to find solutions for these problems, and after having this conversation with Enoch Moore from Defending Utah I think he has come up with that solution. This will not require grand sweeping gestures, trying to find a political messiah, or teaming up with a massive national organization. The solution is local, non-violent, and has its roots in the founding era of this country. I told you few weeks back that I felt like the time for us being quite was over and that we are in a place where we now have to act. Stick around for a conversation that should not only excite you, but also give you hope that We The People still have a chance to save Liberty for our children.

One of the things I love the most about the scriptures is that as our walk in our discipleship of Jesus Christ matures and changes so to do the scriptures. Certain passages will take on new personal meanings given our current circumstances. This is why the scriptures will always be relevant. On this episode of the podcast I have Taylor Smith back on. Taylor is working on a hypothesis that in the book of Revelation the seven churches mentioned there are not only historical churches but also could be representation of certain groups in the Restoration in the Latter-Days. I believe that Mormonism and the LDS Church every so often has watershed moments. The moments serve as inflection points signaling the direction the LDS church will head and the speed at which they intend to make changes to serve this new course. I believe that one such inflection point justhappened at the last LDS General Conference when Elder Allen D. Haynie gave a talk in which he stated that prophetic counsel has an expirationdate. Well that’s just perfect. So now you no longer need to read those dusty old books known as the scriptures, or go searching for things Joseph, Brigham,or other early Church leaders said, isn’t that great? Today Justin Francom joins me again on the podcast as we discuss what this changes means for the LDS Church and Mormonism. Stick around as Justin and connect the dots and give you commentary you will get nowhere else and on where the LDS Church is heading

I have said to my family and friends on many occasions “if you want to see where the nation is heading pay attention to Utah and Texas.” These two states are the places where people who seek to subvert the agency of man will attack with the greatest ferocity. This because both of these states are unique in both their history and culture. Those who seek to install tyranny in America understand that if they can get rid of freedom in these two states the rest will be significantly easier. We have known for quite some time now that one of the ways the enemies of freedom seek to get rid of mankind’s free agency is by hiding behind front organizations with innocuous sounding names. Today on the podcast I have back on Chelsie Hope. She is a woman who has devoted the past few years of her life to being a watchdog on freedom issues here in Utah. Today Chelsie and I have a conversation about the group Envision Utah. We talk about what Private-Public Partnerships are and why you should be extremely cautious of such groups, the history of Envision Utah and who the founding members were, who the players are today, what they seek to accomplish, and finally who some of the special advisors are in Envision Utah and if you’re a Mormon you might be surprised at one of those names. At the end we wrap up with what you can do to help stop this totalitarian nightmare. Now many of you who don’t live in Utah may say “that’s a Utah problem” well yes but I guarantee you that in your state you have very similar organizations that you need to be on the lookout for. Stay tuned for a fascinating conversation.

There are certain ordinances and principles in the Restored Gospel that were revealed by the early leaders of the LDS Church that are no longer practiced or even remembered. Some of those practices that is no longer practiced or taught in the LDS Church are the principles of Re-Baptism and Baptismsfor health. Today I have Benjamin Winfield back on the podcast. Well here we are, the economy is shaky, we are in at least a proxy war Russia, China is rattling its saber threatening to invade Taiwan, Canada has begun euthanasia for depressed teens, and here at home there is a large portion of our society that thinks gender mutilation of our children is a good idea, oh and that’s on top of abortion still happening. It feels like the whole world is in commotion and descending into a dark chaos. Now it is true that we don’t know the day or hour the Savior will make His return, but He did give us some signs to keep a look out for. On this episode I have Ken Peterson back on the podcast. One of the things we as fundamentalists and even traditional LDS folks fight against is stereotypes. Some of the worst stereotypes are reserved for women who are fundamentalists or are traditional LDS. You hear the same accusations all the time. “They all where prairie dresses, they must be so beaten down and oppressed, they must not be educated if they choose to live that way and the list goes on and on” Well I think those who hold and perpetuate those stereotypes are about to have some serious push back. On this Episode I have on five women from various backgrounds in Mormon fundamentalism to talkabout their experiences as women within fundamentalism. About a month ago the LDS church announced that they had made sweeping changes to the Temple ordinances, specific the endowment. On this episode I have on Dan Hatch. Dan is the Temple President for The Righteous Branch of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter day Saints in a Temple where the original ordinances are still practiced so Dan is uniquely qualified to talk about these changes. Julie then discovered some information that frankly is quite disturbing. Julie has detailed and documented the communist infiltration into Americas most trusted institutions, schools, and even our Churches. Julie documents all of this in her book Beneath Sheep’s Clothing. One thing that I am constantly amazed by is that every time “the science” proclaims a matter “settled” it won’t be too much longer after that that new evidence comes out to disprove the current narrative. Global Warming gets dismissed because we had some really cold years so it turns into Climate Change. The vaccines are effective….both of those turned out to be 100% wrong after “the science” had been settled. But Noah’s flood oh yeah that science has been settled….or has it? Ok Parental Advisory time. Younger children probably under the age of thirteen shouldn't be listening to this episode!!! I take every episode of this podcast seriously. But this episode, but this episode is as serious as a heart attack. I had a good friend once that said, "if you look at the Old Testament God finally lets judgment come to Israel every time, they start sacrificing their children to Baal and Moloch." Have you ever wondered how a people who have been raised with freedom manage to lose those freedoms? See if corrupt politicians were to just come along and take them suddenly I think we would all throw a party with pitchforks and torches. No how a people lose their freedoms is by wilfully giving them up. Tyrants have long had this sick fascination with wanting those they subjugate to beg them for the tyranny those tyrants offer. Today on the podcast I have on Chelcie Hope. Chelcie is a woman who has watched and spoken out against governments' never ending march towards complete control. She has recently been paying real close attention to what happens more locally in the state of Utah. What you will find in listening to me and Chelcies conversation is that Utah in particular is in the crosshairs of global elites. The reason for this is because of Utah's strategic location as well as its spiritual significance. If these global elites can do this in Utah then they can do it anywhere, so pay very close attention even if you don't live in Utah because the political mechanisms are the same state to state. The mechanism the elites are using is to buy and use our local politicians to do their bidding. I am sure you the listener will come to the same conclusion I did about Chelcie. That is that she is super well informed and wicked smart. We cover on this episode what bills are being passed right now in Utah that most threaten our freedoms, who is behind those bills and finally what you can do to help put the brakes on this political abomination heading our way.

As Mormons, one of the things we constantly get beat over the head with by pseudo-intellectuals is this argument "well if the Book of Mormon is an account of historical events where is the evidence? Geological 5. Cultural. Now you may not agree with where Ken believes the Book of Mormon took place but as Ken and I breakdown evidence from all five of these categories I think you will see that as believers in the Book of Mormon we have every reason to be assured that the accounts in the Book of Mormon.--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dave-kirkenbower/support
So today on the podcast I have something juicy for ya that I think you are absolutely going to love. On this episode I have Taylor Smith on the podcast. Taylor is a mormon fundamentalist and a darn good scholar of the restored Gospel. In our conversation Taylor talks about end times prophecy and more specifically we talk about prophecies that have been both fulfilled and yet to be fulfilled that apply uniquely to Mormons. I have also included on mormonrenegade.com in the episode page some notes and scriptures you may want to have as you listen.Scriptuers:1st Nephi Chapter 14D&C 109:60D&C 45:24-323rd Nephi 20:10-463rd Nephi 17:1-3Ether 8:22-262nd Nephi 20:1, 21:1, 22:1-7 & 12-33, 9:18, 12:6-17, 13:9, 15:5, 16:11, 19:16Ezekiel 16:49D&C 100:42--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dave-kirkenbower/support
So I have said it before I don't like talking about a problem without talking about a solution. I have had a couple of episodes that have really broken down just what kind of mess public education is and just how much danger there is there. On this episode I have Russ Barlow on again to talk about his family's experience in home schooling. Russ breaksdown exactly how he and his wife were able to educate their children at home with a practical easy to follow method. What I am hoping you the listener takes away from this episode is a knowledge that you can educate your own children and that despite what the so-called experts say you are capable and qualified to educate your children. If you head over to my YouTube channel you can see the materials Russ uses in the video. Now like last time if you go to mormonrenegade.com and click on this episode page you are going to find a code that you can use to get 20% off the materials Russ talks about and references in this episode. WARNING NOT FOR LITTLE EARS ADULT SUBJECT MATTER ON THIS EPISODE!! On this episode of the podcast we are going to talk about the respect for marriage act that was passed about a month ago. What you didn't think I wasn't going to talk about this did you? I wanted to wait until after the bill had passed to find out what the law would be exactly. For this episode I bring Ben Shaffer back on the podcast to break this law down. Because of Ben's training as an attorney, I felt like he was the man for the job. We cover what the law says and what it means to Mormons and more specifically the LDS Church since the church threw its weight behind the bill. We then cover how the Church's support of this bill actually seems to walk hand in hand with the physical changes to the Salt Lake Temple. To date I think it is perhaps the most honest conversation I have had on the podcast about all the changes that that have happened to the LDS Church.

So I feel like I have had guests on that have a done great job in breaking down just how fragile our economy is and just how bad it can get. Now I hate being the guy who says hey something is wrong and not give you some solutions or steps to get you through. I have searched high and low for someone I feel like is well grounded and knows what they are talking about. Well finally by asking around and doing a little bit of networking I found that guy. His name is Marcello Surjopolos. Marcello is the business owner of Food Storage Depot. This guy lives and breathes this topic. On this episode we get a little bit of info on who he is and how he got into emergency prep. We then talk about some of the challenges you could face in the near future that may force us into these kinds of situations. We then move into the realm of solutions. Marcello then gives a quick explanation of the 7 principles of being prepared and just not survive but thrive in an emergency situation. Finally at the end he gives you the listener an opportunity to become better prepared. Now I normally don’t advertise anything on this podcast. I break that rule on this episode. I have looked at Marcello’s business and talked to him off the podcast and can fully endorse the goods and services he provides. So on this episode we are going to do something a little different its going to be just you and me. As I have done this podcast and you have listened and interacted with me I feel like we have come to know each other. Quite frankly its something I hadn’t counted on but I am glad it has happened. So I want to tell you a little more about me and my family. We love Christmas around our house. I is a big, big deal. Don’t get me wrong, we love the food the lights, and the presents. More than that however we love the meaning and feeling of Christmas. People’s hearts seem to be a little more open not just to their fellow man but to God. For me Christmas has even a deeper meaning. It’s a connection back to my earthly father. See he left me a legacy during Christmas. Its one I have tried to live up to. That legacy has become a tradition. This legacy and tradition will be evident by the end of the story. First let me say that this story is based on a true event that happened when I was eight years old. I saw it..or at least part of it as an eight year old boy then explained to me in depth at the age of sixteen. I had to fill in the gaps of people and events story can be told in a way that would engage the listener. I have also changed the names of some of the characters to protect their privacy. Now the event near the end of the story that I witnessed as an 8 year old boy did happen. At the end of this story I will tell you exactly how things happened in real life and how I actually came to know about so that you the listener now exactly what happened. So think of it more like a Christmas parable based on a true event. I feel like the story now needs to be told in a very public way for some reason that I can’t explain. Now one of the things I have come to love about this experience is that it’s not an exclusively fundamentalist story, it’s not even an exclusively Mormon type of story. So this experience and this episode can be shared with anybody. But before we begin I want to tell you the listener how very grateful I am that you have spent so many hours here with me. I have been blessed to do this podcast and have been blessed by you listening and on occasion interacting with you. My hope is that this story will help you feel the true meaning of Christmas, that perhaps it will make the season a little more bright.

So a few months back I was scrolling through my Facebook feed and I saw a post from someone that caught my eye. I clicked on the link and what I found was a post from a guy who is a Mormon Fundamentalist who was using was short Tik Tok videos to explain Mormon Fundamentalism as well as to push back against misunderstandings, and erroneous teachings about the Restored Gospel. Thant man name is Benjamin Winfield. On this episode Benjamin and I have a fascinating conversation. We talk about how he became a fundamentalist, how he found himself being the voice of Mormon Fundamentalism on Tik Tok, Some of his interactions with different people on the social media, and where he sees his presence on Tik Tok going in the future. Along the way we cover a few Gospel principles and even dive in on what we as Fundamentalists can do to reach out to folks not of our faith.

On this episode of the podcast we continue the series about the Jewish calendar and feast days. Now as always I strongly recommend that if you haven’t listed to the previous episodes in this series you go back and do that first. The reason is that these celebrations build on top of each other.. Those would be episodes # 27,28, & 30. This time around Joshua Erickson and I break down Hanukkah. We dive into the history of the festival and how it is celebrated today. As we discuss these things there are fascinating ties to Joseph Smith as well as some pretty stark parallels for today concerning Mormonism and even fundamentalist prophecy.

By now everybody knows that I am a huge nerd for history. I am completely fascinated by the historical figures in the early days of the Restoration. On this episode I have the chance to sit down and have a conversation with Kent Pickering. Kent is an amateur historian on the life of Martin Harris. Now Kent’s interest in Martin Harris is a personal one he is a direct descendant of Martin Harris. So not only does his love of history come through on this episode but there are times in our conversation where you can feel the love Kent has for Martin Harris. Our conversation ranges from the early life of Martin Harris to his conversion to Mormonism, his monetary support to for the printing of the Book of Mormon, to his falling away from the Restored Gospel, to his time in Kirtland after the Saints left to his ultimate return to the saints in Utah. Stick around for a fascinating conversation on the life of Martin Harris.

So just the day before Thanksgiving my buddy sent me a news article that told the story of an elementary school in California who had authorized an after school club for Satanists. Let me say that again…an elementary after school club for Satanists. I found the timing interesting because just a few days before that I had a conversation with Russ Barlow about the state of public education. Now for those who haven’t listened to Russ’s first time on the podcast I would encourage you to go back and listen to episode #35. Now on this episode Russ and I take deep dive on how modern education has got to the point it has in regards to indoctrinating our children. As Russ and I explore the origins of public education there are many points at which I get freaked the hell out on just how evil and insidious the design was. By three quarters of the way into our conversation you will no longer be wondering how a story like the one I mentioned earlier can happen in public education. Here’s the good news, at the end Russ gives a very candid answer on what we can do as parents to save our children. Now in a first for this podcast I have video for this episode. The reason I did this is I felt the visuals that Russ uses are super important. So you can see that here or at my YouTube channel Mormon Renegade Podcast and for those who prefer just to listen that format is available as well. That’s next on this episode of the Mormon Renegade podcast.

So there are a ton of things I have learned in doing this podcast. The one thing I have learned that I never saw coming was to just what lengths people will go to, to discredit Joseph Smith and other early LDS church leaders. See this very same tactic was used to discredit the Founding Fathers of the United States in order to remake the country into something it was never supposed to be. Well as said earlier now the same tactic is creeping into Mormonism. Discredit the founder and then Mormonism can be turned into something else. It was brought to my attention by my friend Justin Francom that the newest effort regards Joseph Smith and the First Vision. The charge that is being made by those seeking to undermine the foundations of the Restored Gospel is that Joseph’s First Vision was not of Heavenly origin but was instead his experiences while on hallucinogens. Now as preposterous as this sounds people are buying into it and this movement is growing. So on this episode Justin and I breakdown this theory and look at what its proponents trot out as evidence. I am sure that you will come to the same conclusion Justin and I have that the idea that Joseph’s First Vision was the result of a “trip” is complete nonsense and the accounts they use as evidence does not pass scrutiny. My hope is that by the end of this podcast you will be armed with the facts and be able to refute this claim when you encounter it.

Look I told you from the very first episode of this podcast that I was always going to tell you the truth as I understand it. Doing that means sometimes having to say things that may be unpopular or unpleasant. This is going to be one of those episodes. For about the last 6 months I have seen instability in the economy, now I these were just my gut feelings. So when I have those feelings I reach out to people who are way smarter than me on the topics at hand. It’s for this reason that I brought Kelsey Williams back on the podcast. Now you’re going straight talk and straight up truth about where the economy is. We then go into to an in depth history of the financial system of the United States including the birth and role of the Fed, the Bretton Woods Summit and what that all means in historical context. Kelsey then moves on to tell us what he thinks is coming our way and what we can do to help us weather the coming economic storm. You are going to get in depth history and analysis on this episode about the economy that you normally don’t get from the major news networks and political & economic pundits.

No matter what kind of society people live in, societies have narratives. The narratives that any society or group espouses or believes becomes the framework on how that society or group functions and behaves. So let’s look back at the pandemic, where the narrative was “follow the science”. Around climate change the narrative has been “the science is settled”. It is from the starting point of those two narratives that society has made its decisions concerning public policy. So let’s look at the outcomes in our society of operating in that narrative. In the case of Covid we had business lost, people isolated, and children’s development stunted. In the case of climate change we have had whole sectors of the energy production industry shut down which has caused skyrocketing prices on almost everything.
So what if the science we follow isn’t correct? What if the science hasn’t been settled? “SPOILER ALERT…The science is never settled. That is the whole point of science”. Now as Mormons and believers in the Judeo-Christian tradition we have been taught that we can’t comment on science because we believe in a God. But as Mormons and believers shouldn’t we expect science to work seamlessly hand in hand with our religions? What if I told you it did?
On this episode I have on Russ Barlow. Russ is a man who along with others has dedicated a good portion of his life to learning and studying science. The fruit of that study is the Universal Model. The Universal Model is a look at science without an agenda. It is based on evidence and experiments that tests the current scientific narrative. As I have looked at the Universal Model it is hard to poke holes in what it teaches. When you approach the Universal Model from an honest perspective what you find is that Science and the revealed word of God walk seamlessly together. Throughout my conversation with Russ my mind was blown several times at what the Universal Model teaches and how it teaches it. Now I normally don’t do this but you will want to make sure you tune in for a follow up conversation that Russ and I will be having in a couple of weeks because it is going to be epic. Also for this episode you are going to want to go to the website. In Mormon history there are a few events that are watershed moments that shape the future of Mormonism for generations. A couple of those events are Josephs Smith’s Last Charge and Brigham Young’s Transfiguration after the martyrdom of the Prophet Joseph Smith. To better understand those events I have a man on the podcast that certainly needs no introduction in Mormon Fundamentalist circles. He is a former attorney, an author of many books both scholarly in nature as well as fiction. His name? Drew Briney. On this episode we breakdown Drew’s back story a little bit, and then dive into Jospeh Smith Last Charge and Brigham Young’s Transfiguration. The historical findings that Dew has discovered are really quite groundbreaking and sheds new light on these events that I think most haven’t considered. That’s next on this episode of MRP

So for those of you who have been listening for a while you will remember a few Months back I had on Ken Peterson. He wrote a book that shows Mormon Doctrine and Teachings in the Apocrypha. For those who might be new to the podcast I would recommend going back and listening to Episode #20 first. On this episode I have Ken back on and we have a conversation about one book of the Apocrypha in particular and that is the Pistis Sophia. This particular book of the Apocrypha is fascinating. In its pages we see the resurrected Savior teaching the mysteries of the Restored Gospel to his followers in a question answer format. Ken and have a conversation about the books contents that range from Temple Ordinances, to a more detailed account of the three degrees of glory, to the Generations of the Gods, to the Reckoning of time in the Celestial realms, to even the conception of the Savior. Buckle up because this episode is bound to blow your mind as we see Joseph Smith proved right over and over again from a book that is 2,000 years old as it also dives into the mysteries of the Restored Gospel.

So I was just talking with a friend a couple days ago about the podcast. He said “Dave I love the podcast but you have had a few episodes that seem out of place on a podcast about Mormonism.” I asked which ones and he told me the ones I have done about liberty and freedom. In response to that I want to read the following quote from Brigham Young
“Every organization of our government, the best government in the world, is crumbling to pieces. Those who have it in their hands are the ones who are destroying it. How long will it be before the words of the prophet Joseph will be fulfilled? He said if the Constitution of the United States were saved at all it must be done by this people. It will not be many years before these words come to pass.” (Brigham Young Journal of Discourses 12:204 )
Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, & many other early Church leaders understood that the Gospel could only thrive in an environment of liberty. So that’s why I have episodes on this podcast about liberty and freedom. The two are intertwined and cannot be separated. Furthermore Brigham states in that quote “He said if the Constitution of the United States were saved at all it must be done by this people.” We have a divine mandate as Mormons to preserve the Constitution of the United States.
On this episode I sit down and have a conversation with Enoch Moore. Enoch is the founder of Defending Utah. We have a fascinating conversation where we not only talk about the issues facing Utah and the nation but more importantly the solutions for ensuring our continued liberty and in turn the ability to continue to practice our religion.

So I have a question….What happens when a Lutheran interested in Mormonism has a discussion with three Mormon fundamentalists? Well you are about to find out. A few months back I had a man named Billy reach out to me with some questions about Mormonism, Fundamentalism, and the LDS Church. Now one of the things I like about Billy is that he is an honest seeker. He wants to understand without playing “gottcha games”. Billy eventually had the idea of wanting to come on the podcast and ask some questions about Mormon Fundamentalism. Now because I like Billy I thought he deserves to talk to someone way smarter than a clown with a microphone so I reached out to two guys way smarter than me Michael Ness and Jacob Vidrine. So on this episode myself, Billy Michael and Jacob sit down and answer Billy’s questions. We end up having a fascinating conversation and deep diving on some pretty interesting topics.

Today is October 10, 2022. It is the first day of the Feast of Tabernacles. So on this episode Joshua Erickson and I are continuing our discussion on the Feast and Holy Days of the Jewish calendar. This is instalment number 3 in the series. Again I strongly recommend that if you haven’t going back and listening to Episode # 15. That episode sets the table for this series. Then listen to episodes numbers 27 and 28. The reason for this is that as I have had these conversations you can see that the Lord instituted these Feast and Holy Days to build on top of one another. There is a certain heavenly momentum that I think the Lord is trying to convey through the Jewish calendar. On this episode Joshua and I cover what the Feast of Tabernacles is, what it is in memory of, how it was celebrated anciently, how it is celebrated today, and finally the lessons and principle we can take away from the Feast of Tabernacles.

Now just as a disclaimer I recorded this episode after my wife and had attended a football game so my voice was kind of shot. One of the things I enjoy most about doing this podcast is talking to Mormons of all walks of life. This episode is an example of that. I had the opportunity to sit down and have a conversation with Nate & Megan Richardson. Nate and Megan are devout members of the LDS church who have decided to structure their family and raise their kids in a very traditional Mormon way. We covered everything from Nate's career as a public educator, to why they decided to homeschool their children, to how they approach their kids dating, and much more.

On this episode of the Podcast I continue my conversation with Joshua Erickson for our series on the Feast & Holy days of the Jewish calendar. As Mormons one of our central tenants of faith is the idea of restoration. Now we know that the Feast and Holy days were instituted by God anciently and were observed by the Savior himself. This leads to the questions that should we as Mormons give greater attention to the Jewish calendar and can we glean something special from an understanding and even participation in these Holidays. Now I strongly encourage those who haven’t listened to episodes #15 and #27 to stop here and go listen to those first. Episode #15 sets the table for this series and episode #27 is on Rosh HaShanah. Today me and Joshua’s conversation turns the next major event on the Jewish calendar which is Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement. We talk about what the Yom Kippur is, what it points to and its significance, how it was observed anciently, and finally how it can be observed in our day and age as Mormons.

So two years ago when we were in full lockdown because of Covid there were a few things that I saw that really shocked me. One of those was Idaho’s response to Covid. I have said before on the podcast that I lived for quite a few in Idaho so I felt like I had a pretty good idea on what their government leaders were like. I have to admit that I was wrong. I was shocked to see the draconian measures that the state took in locking down its population.
One story that was especially jarring for me was the story of Sara Brady. She was the mom who had dared to take her kids to a park in Meridian Idaho. She was arrested and booked into jail. Sara’s story caught the attention of not only the internet but also the national news media. Then as the media often does it just forgot to follow up.
Today on the podcast I have Sara on to tell her story and the legal fight she has been having for two years and her upcoming hearing in Ada County Boise. Idaho didn’t stop with Sara however. We also cover the story of Robert Jones, a man in Boise who was arrested for protesting and jailed with a charge of disturbing the peace. Robert was given a choice of either a six month long sentence in an Ada County jail or one month and having to take a “thinking errors” course. Robert chose not to submit to the course and now is serving six months in jail.

The term counter culture is a term that we as fundamentalist & traditional Mormons I think better start to take seriously. Let me tell you how the dictionary describes counter culture “a way of life and set of attitudes opposed to or at variance with the prevailing social norm”. So if you’re like me you are probably thinking wow maybe we as traditional & fundamentalist Mormons are a counter culture. Well the good news is we aren’t the first and we might be in good company….excepting of course the drug culture of the 60’s. If you take a historical look at the first century Christians the Founding Fathers of the United States and even 19th century Mormons these are all example of counter culture. Somewhere along the line a lot of Mormons decided they just wanted to be like everyone else.
Today however I think we are in a place that as Mormons we need to re-embrace this idea of being and actually start taking actions to strengthen a Gospel centered counter culture. But to do that we will need some tools. Today I have on the podcast Ben Shaffer to have a conversation about an alternative currency that might be an important tool to help us reach that goal. It can help strengthen not only each other but also local supply chains and small independent business. And who knows it may even help us establish the counter culture of Zion.

On this episode I have on Hannah Stoddard. Hannah is the Director of the Joseph Smith Foundation which seeks to defend the Restoration as given through the Prophet Joseph Smith. They do this by battling false narratives and staying true to and telling accurate history and defending Joseph Smith and other early LDS Church Presidents. Hannah and I have a conversation about how the Joseph Smith Foundation was started and the work that they do. Later we discuss current efforts of so called historians in revising and rewriting early LDS Church history. In our conversation Hannah does an amazing job of telling the story of how this revisionist history first got started and all the players involved. We also discuss how the tactics used in rewriting LDS history is almost an exact duplicate of how academics rewrote American history concerning the nation’s founders. Towards the end of our conversation Hannah offers fantastic solutions on how faithful Mormons of all types can combat this insidious attempt at rewriting Mormon history.

OK I am not breaking any news here. We all see that the world around us is getting darker. It is plainly evident that the love of man is waxing cold. We see violence, corruption, war, hunger, poverty, sexual immorality all around us and it oly continues to intensify. In a world that has seem to have lost its moral compass what are we supposed to do as followers of Christ? The answer to that question is that we must stop looking for others to change. We have to be the change we seek. Today on the podcast I have on David Patten.
David is a man who has worked in Hollywood in the film industry and seen the inner workings of the film industry. He has since left Hollywood and has started a film company of his own that seeks to make films that tell accurate Mormon history and films that uplift and help people become pure in heart. Along the way we also talk a lot about Gospel principles and teachings.

So did you see what happened to the Dow Jones yesterday? Yeah down 1,000 points and that’s on top of the markets either being nearly flat or down all week. Something is happening within the economy that has every alarm bell in my gut going off at once.

He is the author of two books First Inflation: What it is, What it isn’t and Who’s responsible for it and his second book All hail the fed. He also has written and published many articles both for his website as well as other publications. All these resources can be found in the show notes.
On this episode we talk about gold. Look purchasing gold can kind of be intimidating. Couple that with misconceptions on why someone should buy gold and you have a recipe for being overwhelmed. Kelsey and I breakdown the history of gold, options for the way to purchase gold, and a how you he recommends you should view owning gold. We also go into the state of the economy today and even talk about some potential scenarios for where the economy is headed.

So I have a question, If Joseph Smith really restored the Gospel we should be able to look back to ancient prophets and their teachings and we should see that those teachings line up with what Joseph Smith taught right? Well on this episode of the podcast I have a conversation with Ken Peterson. Ken is a devout lifelong member of the LDS Church. Ken has released a book titled Mormon Doctrine in the Apocrypha. In the book Ken lines out where teachings from the Apocrypha are exact matches to the teachings of the Restored Gospel as taught by Joseph Smith. One of the greatest points of contention between Mormons of different sects has always been who is in charge and who has the keys. We do a deep dive into priesthood, priesthood keys and Presidency. As we compare and contrast those three topics I think you will find that certain assumptions we may have made about these topics might be incomplete as we look at what former prophets and apostles have said about them.

On this episode I have Kevin Kraut back on the podcast. Today we are going to talk about a topic that isn’t well known unless you’re in fundamentalist circles. That topic is the Dream Mine in Salem Utah. This mine has been the subject of visions, prophecy, & one man’s excommunication from the LDS Church. We breakdown the history of the mine, its current state, and also how it ties in to some peoples end times theology. Now personally I haven’t made up my mind if the stories associated with mine and its prophesied future production are true, but it’s a fascinating story.

In Mormon Fundamentalism there are names that everybody knows. Then there are a distinct few who’s influence is felt all through the community. On this episode we talk about one such man, Ogden Kraut. I sit down with Kevin Kraut Ogden’s son to talk about his Dad. We cover Ogden’s upbringing, his mission, and his work as a Mormon fundamentalist historian and author. Some of the most fascinating portions is hearing about Ogden’s interactions with folks like John Koyle, Bruce R. McConkie, Hugh Nibley, and Cleon Skousen.

Ok so I told you early on that that this podcast was a place for me to sit down with people I found really cool and interesting. Well this episode is like a dream come true for me. I had the opportunity to sit down with Cristina Rosetti. I am a huge fan of her work. She has spent her academic career studying Mormon Fundamentalism. Her work is respected by academics and Mormon Fundamentalists alike. Her work is both uncompromising and fair. In our conversation we cover how she became interested in Mormon Fundamentalism, how she gained access to so many fundamentalists, where she thinks Mormon fundamentalism is going, and her experiences working to pass the bill in Utah that would ultimately lead to the decriminalization of plural marriage.

On this episode of the podcast I sit down and have a conversation with Joshua Erickson. I have known Joshua for about a year. He is a Mormon Fundamentalist that takes a very holistic view of Mormonism. Rather than seeing the gospel and restoration in a New Testament & Old Testament sort of way he tends to look at it from the whole. The outgrowth of having this point of view is that Joshua and his family practice Mormonism in conjunction with holding to many ancient Jewish traditions including celebrating the feast days as outlines in the Old Testament. We cover that as well as touch on other subjects such as America being a continuation of the story of the House of Israel that and more next on this episode of the Mormon Renegade Podcast

So first let me apologize that I didn’t get this episode out sooner. The audio in spots is kind of rough due to some bad internet connections so I was really working the audio over to try and clean it up so that’s why this is a few days late. However despite some rough patches this episode is one of the most important I think I have done to date. On this episode I have on Moroni Jessop. This is normally the spot where I tell everyone a little about my guest…but let’s be honest its Moroni Jessop…everyone in fundamentalism knows who he is!! Anyway he came on and we talked about the history of and changes made to the temple ordinances. Now about the last half hour of this podcast interview Moroni and I end up talking about a pretty controversial topic. I am sure that last segment of the podcast will end up ruffling some feathers….in fact this might just turn some folks off on the podcast. Now I hope this doesn’t happen but I told you the listener early on that I was going to be truthful with you in my search for truth and authenticity. I have counted the cost on this episode and know this may cost me but to stay true to who I am it’s something that had to happen.

one of the first episodes i ever did on this podcast was about the Adam-God doctrine with Jacob Vidrine and to date it is still one of the most downloaded episodes. After we were done recording that episode Jacob and I talked and felt like we really left some stuff on the table. Despite that episode being three hours long we really just managed to cover the history of the doctrine. In this episode we dig deeper on the doctrine. We try to answer some common questions about the doctrine, look at the importance of the doctrine and what it means to accept the doctrine. We also take a look at some evidences from scholars and historians which make an interesting theory that early humanity knew of the Adam-God Doctrine.

On this episode we talk about the economy. To help do that I brought on a guest who is why smarter than I am. His name is Kelsey Williams. Kelsey has worked in finance in one form or another for well over 40 years. He is the author of two books First Inflation: What it is, What it isn’t and Who’s responsible for it and his second book All hail the fed. He also has written and published many articles both for his website as well as other publications. All these resources can be found in the show notes.
During our conversation Kelsey breaks down exactly what is happening right now to the economy in a way that even a guy like me can understand. We talk about some possible scenarios on what the next couple of months could bring as well as touch on a few things you can do to weather this economic storm.

On this episode I have a fascinating conversation with Kimberly Watson Smith. Kimberly has been the leading voice in debunking the “Who killed Joseph Smith” film and the theory it presents. Not only do we cover that but we also dig into what the “Doctrine of Christ” movement is, Its founder and also some of their ideas. We wrap up our conversation by talking about some amazing prophetic parallels and events surrounding the martyrdom of Joseph & Hyrum Smith.

On this episode of the podcast I have a conversation with Sean Anderson & Michael Ness. This is an epic conversation. Not only do we cover Sean’s journey into Mormon Fundamentalism but we go into depth on the Council of Fifty. We cover what the council was, what its purpose was and dispel some common misconceptions about the council. Finally we debunk a new idea gaining ground with young Mormons that the Law of Consecration & United Order is simply socialism with a religious bent. We do this by digging into the scriptures and seeing what the Lord has to say about the Law of Consecration and United Order then we do an A-B comparison of Law Of Consecration vs. Socialism. Buckle up for an epic conversation on this episode.

With all that has happened this week in Texas and the horrendous loss of life of the innocent my guest Justin Francom & I changed what we were going to talk about. We ended up having a conversation about where we are at as a nation and a people, how we got here, and what the solutions are to weather the coming challenges.

I am going to shoot ya straight straight...I am a guy who believes in some conspiracy theories. However every so often a conspiracy comes along that requires more than just a tinfoil hat....it requires an entire room made of tinfoil. On this Episode we will debunk the movie "Who Killed Joseph Smith". This movie makes the claim that John Taylor & Willard Richards were the ones that killed Joseph & Hyrum. To help debunk this I brought on Justin Francom. Justin Francom has taken an exhaustive study of this topic and has a lot of great insight on the theory and does a great job in debunking it.

On this episode I bring on Ben Shaffer and Felipe to review the book and television series Under The Banner of Heaven. Ben is a person well respected in fundamentalist circles and has been on a number of podcasts and is the go to guy for those outside of Mormon Fundamentalism who want to gain a better understanding of early Mormon Doctrine. On top of that Ben shares some very personal experiences he had with topics that parallel those found in Under The Banner Of Heaven. Not only do we breakdown Under the Banner Of Heaven but also dive into the subjects of Personal Moral Agency, Blood Atonement, and the Oath of Vengeance.

On this Episode I dust off some audio I did with Carolynn. Carolynn is a Rockstar when it comes to food storage. With inflation spiking I feel like this conversation might be needed now more then ever. This audio was originally recorded in 2020 and I mainly just passed it on to close friends and family. I can tell you from personal experience that the principles we talk about on this episode work and can't recommend them highly enough.

On this episode I sit down with Jacob Vidrine to discuss the Adam-God Doctrine. This topic is expansive. We talked for 2 hours and 40 minutes and I feel like we covered just the basics. We talked about how the doctrine was revealed, what it's implications are and how it fell out of favor in the LDS Church. I hope you enjoy this episode I did recording it.
