Rachel Jaffe is a "coastal craftswoman based in Virginia Beach. She specializes in ceramic arts, education and is a business owner. Her clay work, including her now infamous miniature mug jewelry recently made it's debut at Arrowmont's Showcase Gallery and Supply Store in Gatlinburg, TN. Rachel grew up in Northern Virginia and her family has deep roots here, in the early 1940s, her great grandfather, Solomon Jaffe opened a meat processing plant called the Suffolk Packing Company, which her grandfather Gerald helmed for another 40 years. In her own words: "I craft functional and whimsical artwork to encourage play and conversation. My creations are intended to evoke a warm sense of home and meant to be touched, shared and cherished by all... My love for ceramics began in 2016, when my older sister, Julia, introduced me to this medium. She has always encouraged me to explore my artistic side and embrace the 3D world. As we explored and mucked around in our high school ceramics studio together, I became fascinated by the ability to shape earthen materials into lively creations. Thus began my clay journey. Much of my clay knowledge comes from, well, other clay people! I have learned so much through collaborating with other artists by sharing tools, techniques, and inspiration. I believe that art is meant to be shared and that the process of teaching and learning from others is an essential part of the creative process.Rather than pursuing a traditional academic path, I chose community studios as my learning environment. Before committing myself to ceramics, I briefly attended university in Pittsburgh, PA. Most of my time was not spent in the lecture halls. Instead, I ventured off-campus to a local community pottery studio, the Union Project, to satisfy my clay cravings. Later, I returned home to my job at Clay Cafe Studios in Falls Church, VA, where I shared my love of ceramics with elementary students. While teaching these young minds the wonders of clay, I also discovered new techniques and honed my skills as an artist. This experience served as a mutually beneficial opportunity for both myself and the children I taught.While I was accepted into art school, I ultimately decided not to attend. I chose to continue my education through more hands-on experiences. I adored teaching youth and continued my work at a local art center called River Tree Arts in Kennebunkport, ME. I had the wonderful opportunity to teach after school classes, connect with other artists, further develop my skills, and hone my personal style." "At the age of eight, Spencer Tinkham (b. 1992) discovered the exhilaration that few people achieve in a lifetime. A simple pocketknife, given to him by his grandfather, launched both his passion for creating and his future as an artist. Enthralled by the rich biodiversity that inhabited the water’s edge in Norfolk, Virginia, Spencer’s love for nature was also sparked early on. He realized that through sculpture, he could create lasting mementos of fleeting encounters. Spencer sculpted many readily available household materials- mostly soap bars and wood scraps. His tools were limited and primitive- a pocketknife, a hacksaw, and a pencil. Before Spencer graduated high school, he had already twice-won the Danner Frazer Youth Decorative Wildfowl World Championship**.
Spencer has no formal art training and is entirely self-taught. He continues to use primitive tools and mixes his oil paints from pigment powders. Most of his sculptures are still made out of found materials and are wildlife focused. Spencer’s sculptures draw influence from literature, folk art, Modern art, and contemporary art. Spencer is intrigued by the repetition of human behavior over history and uses animal sculpture to help people ponder their impact on the environment and each other.
Most recently, Spencer was inducted into the National Sculpture Society as an Associate Member. “Colaptes auratus auratus” was juried into the prestigious Leigh Yawkey Woodson “Birds in Art 2022” museum exhibition. As Stated on the Riehl Deal Neon Signs Co. LLC website "Riehl Deal Neon Signs Co. LLC What We Can Do Neon is a very unique process that can only be completed by hand. There are no machines capable of creating neon because it is a process that requires hand skills. A Little Bit of History and How It's Made Neon was first discovered in 1898 by Sir William Ramsay and Morris Travers both chemists who were pursuing their experiments to liquefy air. Through this they discovered neon and krypton, both inert gases that are used in neon signs. Morris Travers put it best saying, "the blaze of crimson light from the tube told its own story and was a sight to dwell upon and never forget." Neon is created through a process that can only be accomplished by hand. Every neon sign was created by someone who bent the glass using special tools that produced focused flames. These tools soften the glass bringing the temperature of the glass to 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit and are bent in accordance to a pattern. The tubes are manufactured by large companies that are able to make different colors using a powder coating inside the tubes which are made up of rare earth metals and phosphors. Some tubes are also made with colored glass to create a more saturated color. After the tubing is bent and the electrodes (these conduct the electricity through the tubing) are attached it goes through a pumping process. Using a bombarder (a machine that conducts high voltage through the tubing), a manifold, and a vacuum pump, the air is removed andthe glass and electrodes heat up taking it to a temperature that processing the electrodes and burns out impurities such as moisture. Once it cools down the tube is injected with Argon or Neon and is removed from the manifold. After this the neon can be lit using a transformer."

Lending her lyrics now to listeners, Calista Garcia’s “A Beautiful World” EP, out October 29th, 2021, provides refuge through the power of rose-colored perspective.
“I created ‘A Beautiful World’ to be an expression of radical optimism,” Calista shares. “Optimism, not because life is full of sunshine and rainbows, but rather in spite of how tough it can be... I think holding knowledge of the bad and still believing good can prevail is the bravest thing we can do.” As she has accessed hope through songwriting, Calista has found herself writing the EP in solitude from safe places like the park benches nearby, her piano and the floor of her bedroom. Notably, the only co-write on the EP, “After You’re Gone,” came from a Zoom collaboration with Rachel Weisbart and Patrick Oberstaedt of the Gender Gnomes; speaking to the loss of family members during the pandemic, this song has already moved listeners to tears including composer/lyricist Andrew Lippa. Produced by Buddy Speir and Calista Garcia at 38 North Studio, “A Beautiful World” was engineered by Sean Russell (Damien & Stephen Marley, Allison Krauss, Bruno Mars), mixed by Grammy Award Winner Jim Scott of Plyrz Studios (The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Sting, Foo Fighters) and mastered by Grammy Award Winner Richard Dodd (Dixie Chicks, Tom Petty, Boz Scaggs). Brandon and Gianna Vera are the sibling duo behind the Bigi Collective. During the pandemic, the Vera’s realized that there was more to life than a nine to five and through painstaking hours of labor, dedication, bold, sweat and tears they could pursue their ambitions as artists. Their installation in the neon district by the former greyhound station was recently unveiled and they recently started performing together, BRNDNDLYN plays the piano and sings with the voice of an angel and when he hands over the mic, Gigi sings like a goddess as well.
