Weddings are tricky things to plan. They seem easy at the outset however the closer you look and the closer your wedding day gets the more detail there is to prepare for. Over the last 20-years of taking wedding photos we have come to understand that the people who enjoy their day the most are the ones that are the most relaxed, and there is only really one way to relax on your wedding day, and that is to be prepared well in advance. It is important to set the tone of your wedding day at the getting ready phase of the day. If everything is running on time and is going according to the plan then everything else that comes after the getting ready section will come much easier. In today’s podcast Sue and Rob cover off some of the most obvious things you need to think about well in advance of your wedding day. But don’t make the mistake of thinking that you will be able to wing it on the day and solve any problems that arise. There are many ways to plan a wedding. You can start out by planning the guest list, you might begin with the wedding dress but at some point in the planning process you’re going to have to consider where you want your location photography and that is what today’s podcast is all about. Normally your wedding reception and ceremony will dictate where you have your location photos. By that we mean that you’re likely to be nearby, or even somewhere in between your ceremony and reception location. That’s assuming that you’re not getting married and having the reception all in the one place. What nearby means in terms of backgrounds should be explored in detail well before your wedding day. You don’t want to be making critical photography decisions on the day. You must make these choices beforehand so there are no surprises and no stress. If you don’t know where to begin planning for your wedding then starting out by asking what type of wedding photos you want may help you narrow down the focus. For example if you want Wedding Photos on Sydney Harbour then it’s probably not a good idea to be booking a reception venue in Camden. There would just be too much driving on your wedding day making it unpleasant. If you go the other way and pick your reception venue first then it makes it easy to know what’s nearby and where you can go. Just make sure that you don’t overcommit to what you can achieve on the day and most importantly make sure you have a wet weather plan! You need to set realistic expectations of what can be achieved in the limited time you have on your wedding day however if you are clever with your selection of the right locations you will be able to capture more backgrounds than just making it up as you go on your wedding day. Today on the podcast we are going to talk about the benefits of having a small wedding. Let’s start off by saying that there is no one right way to do your wedding. It’s your wedding so do it the way that you see fit not to please your family or friends. Couples that do that often have a regretful day - don’t be that couple!A smaller wedding will give you the flexibility to spend money on things that matter more to you but you first need to work out what it is that matters to you for your wedding day. Is it your ceremony, your location photography or is it something else?Having a smaller wedding will also speed up the pace of your wedding day.
