Lennon Courtney

Each week, Sonya Lennon and Brendan Courtney bring wit, wisdom and empathetic analysis of sometimes controversial but always thought-provoking topics. It’s an infotainment sandwich of cultural phenomena and social issues laced with pop culture. It’s the thinking woman’s guide to… Madonna’s Face, The Hidden Sociopaths in your life, Identity Theft and Stupid Fashion.

Nikki Bradley is an adaptive adventurer, motivational speaker and disability advocate. At aged 16 Nikki was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare and deadly form of bone cancer which thankfully, she survived. However, her gruelling treatment plan caused irreversible damage to her hip leading to multiple failed hip replacements and eventually the amputation of her right leg. But, despite the physical challenges Nikki has faced, her passion for adventure and setting challenges has never left her. Nikki has climbed glaciers in Iceland, abseiled off Fanad Lighthouse in Donegal and finished the 24km Fan Dance in the Brecon Beacons in Wales – all while using crutches.

In this episode she talked to us about some of these incredible adventures and perhaps one of the most gruelling challenges of all - what it’s like dating with a disability. This episode was recorded before Nikki became Senator. We are so happy for her recent great news.

With more of our personal information online than ever before, we thought that this week we’d look at the subject of identity theft.

Cybercrime cost the world around US$6 trillion in 2021 and in this episode, we discussed real life examples of identity theft and how Brendan once met his doppelgänger in a nightclub. Oh, and we also explain how Sonya went viral before 'going viral' was even a thing...

This is, The Thinking Woman’s Guide to…Identity Theft.

We’re back!

Welcome back to The Lennon Courtney Podcast - series 8. While we were away, we rested and refreshed ourselves and had a little make-over but we’ve kept the same wisdom and wit you’ve come to expect from us.

We know the Lennon Courtney woman has a lot going on so in each episode we’re going to guide you through the topics making the headlines…or anything else that we feel like talking about. Plus, in addition to our main episodes, we’re now also releasing bonus minisodes too as an aural accompaniment which means even more us! We’re too good to you, we know ; ) All you have to do is hit play on your device and off we go.

To get our eighth series underway we decided to start with The Thinking Woman’s Guide to…Madonna’s Face. Madonna has caused controversy throughout her career and has always pushed against societal expectations. In this epsiode, we talk age, art, gender, feminism, filler and some good ol’ fashioned misogyny. Plus, Brendan and Sonya reveal what work they’ve had done…! Is that clickbait-ey or what? But what can we say? There is no shame in our podcasting game.

Neven is a regular on Irish TV and radio as well as a prolific writer having created over a dozen best-selling cookbooks. His latest masterpiece is Learn to Cook with Nevan and is aimed at the younger wannabe chefs in your life. For the more seasoned home cook, Neven’s Perfect Irish Christmas is a must have. It’s now available to buy in your local Dunnes Stores, bookshops and even your library and will help you make a no hassle and delicious Christmas dinner.

In this episode, we loved chatting to Neven about his resilience and positive attitude. He also shared a few great cooking tips to help make your festive feast a hit. Sonya also shared her tale of ending up in a kitchen with Ricky Martin’s producers and Brendan reminisces on being the best damn kitchen porter in the Next Cafe on Grafton Street. The restaurant industry’s loss was truly our gain.

This is our final episode for this series but we’ll be back early 2022 rested and full of roast potatoes.

Have a safe Christmas and New Years if you can. Special mention goes to all the shift workers out there who will keep working the festive period. We appreciate you.
