In this energising episode of Mumbition, Lucy speaks with Mia Fileman and Fiona Johnston, co-creators of Ripple Festival—a bold new genre of business event that fuses entrepreneurship with art, music, and comedy. Born from frustration with traditional conferences, Ripple is a grassroots movement designed to celebrate and elevate small business owners, especially women. Mia and Fi share their journey of building Ripple in public, embracing transparency, risk, and joy, while navigating sponsorships, programming, and partnership dynamics. Their deep values alignment and complementary skill sets have been key to their success, and their advice for aspiring entrepreneurs is refreshingly honest: act fast, validate your ideas with paying customers, and back yourself unapologetically. Ripple Festival isn’t just an event—it’s a thriving community where small business owners can connect, grow, and be seen. As Mia and Fi say, playing it safe is the riskiest strategy of all—and Ripple is for those ready to swing big.

First Published January 11, 2022
A question we often ask our mumbitious movement is: “what is the biggest challenge in your life right now?” Over the years the resounding response is always, a lack of time, something we’re pretty sure as a business owner you can personally relate to.
This week we are revisiting an episode from the archives with Mums & Co Expert Kate Christie, a time management specialist who started her own business after years of frustration trying to balance her busy life as a corporate lawyer with three young children. Kate works with individuals helping them to find 30 + lost hours of time a month, so that they can design and curate their perfect lives.
So how can you find another 30 hours in your month? How do you gain the confidence to say no?
And can we really have it all as business owning mums?

Women might be starting more businesses than ever before, but lack of access to capital is the #1 reason we struggle to stay in business. That’s according to data from the Dell Technologies 2023 WE Cities Index report that measures the “fuel” behind the most successful global female founders. At Mums & Co we refer to that “fuel” as livelihood, the systems and processes you have put in place to protect your money and time, so you can focus on the parts of the business you love, while continuing to grow. For most business owners, technology plays a very big role here. Today’s Mumbition guests are both business owning women who have put technology at the forefront of what they do. Karen Joyce, founder of She Maps and Geo Nadir and a member of DWEN, the Dell women’s entrepreneur network. And Tracy Sheen, Mums & Co technology expert and founder of The Digital Guide.
This episode is brought to you by DWEN the Dell Women's Entrepreneur Network. For more than a decade, DWEN has brought women entrepreneurs together from around the world to help them connect, scale their businesses, and ultimately succeed.
