The late Corrie Ten Boom, a Dutch holocaust survivor, once wrote, "I've experienced His Presence in the deepest darkest hell that men can create...I have tested the promises of the Bible, and believe me, you can count on them."
Amen! God is always with us. It is truly wonderful to experience God’s nearness, especially when in desperate situations. But, how do we know if we are truly experiencing the gift of God's presence?
Even if you've been walking with Jesus for a while, your ability to experience God's presence may, at times, feel mysterious. It can leave you wondering, "Was that God?" or “Has God left me?” This is why the spiritual practice of making ourselves open to sense God's nearness as He is revealed in Scripture is essential for us to flourish on our faith journey.

Can we truly be it all? I think this is a common statement I hear from so many women. "We can do it all. We can have it all. We can be a mom, a powerhouse worker, an athlete, a wife, a great friend, and an individual. In reality, being everything to everybody is an impossible task. However, as we learn from today's guest, we can say YES to God first, and everything else can fall into place.
Stella Reed is the executive director of the Dream Center Leadership School in Los Angeles. She is also a wife, mother, speaker, pastor, and the co-founder of the Dream Center in New York City. Stella just says, "Yes," to what God is calling her to.

The journey of faith is a beautiful mystery. We might anticipate it being a linear process, but in reality, it's a unique process filled with ups and downs. Often we set an expectation for our journey of faith, but then we are bound to be disappointed. It's also unique for each person and their walk with the Lord.
On today's podcast, Andy and myself are joined by a special guest, my daughter Kayleigh. Kayleigh is the content director for our team. There is no story too broken for Jesus to redeem. When all our formulas break down, there is a Savior who never does. Karrie's story is no different. Karrie grew up in the church. She knew all the formulas she needed to do in order to earn God's love. Today on the podcast, I had a conversation with Mark Fields, the founder of Kinship Collective. It is yet another reminder that the journey of faith is an incredible adventure and a joyful experience if we allow God to guide us through the path that is not "uncharted" to Him. God will teach us about Himself, ourselves, and the world. He will invite us to bring good healing and comfort to those around us.
Kinship Collective is a community of people who are seeking to end “otherness." Many people feel like they’re on the edges or even exiled from their communities. With everything going on in the world today, I wanted to share with you an interview I did with Daniel Darling last year. Daniel wrote a book on human dignity and how every single person was created in the image of God. Every person was created by God on purpose for a purpose, and it's important we remember that as we go along our journey of faith. Each of us were created for a unique purpose, and we discuss that and so much more on today's podcast.
Daniel Darling is the author of many books. His is also a regular contributor to USA Today. Dan also speaks and preaches around the country. He hosts his own weekly podcast called The Way Home. Daniel received his bachelor's degree in pastoral ministry from Dayspring Bible College and is a graduate of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

There are so many amazing stories about women in the Bible, but often, they are left behind or forgotten. Today on the podcast, I speak with Carolyn Custis James. She is an author of seven books, six of which specifically discuss the role of women within the Word and our world.
Some of her books include Finding God in the Margins, which is about the book of Ruth and looking at Ruth from a female perspective. She wrote Malestrom: Manhood Swept into the Currents of a Changing World, which became Christianity Today's Book of the Year in 2016. Some of her other wonderful books include Half the Church: Recapturing God's Global Vision for Women, Understanding Purpose, Lost Women of the Bible, and When Life and Beliefs Collide: How Knowing God Makes a Difference.
Carolyn is a faculty member at Missio Seminary. She is a consultant and editor for Zondervan Exegetical Commentary on the New Testament, and she was named in 2013 by Christianity Today as one of the 50 Evangelical Women to Watch.

Divorce can be a tricky topic and is not often discussed with relation to your journey of faith. Between the few Bible verses that talk about it and the pain and loss that happens in the middle of one, divorce is often covered in shame, doubt, sadness, and loneliness.
Today on the podcast, we have my husband, Jim, and we go into depth on marriage, divorce, pain, and God's ultimate grace. We discuss what a faith-filled marriage is called to be and what the Bible tells us about marriage and divorce. We also go into some of the theological interpretations behind a few of the heavily used Bible verses used to speak about divorce.
There was so much we could have talked about! Maybe we will do a sequel. When you first became a believer, did you think you would eventually have enough knowledge that you would feel a great deal of certainty? I know I did. But our journey of faith doesn't work that way. We are always learning and growing, as we should be. When we reach a rigid certainty, it’s likely we have halted our progress.

Many of us, during our journey of faith, have a desire to become more educated or more certain on specific biblical topics, as we think it is vital to the strength of our walk with the Lord. However, sometimes the search can lead to more confusion. What do we do then?
This week, I am joined by Bonnie Lewis. Bonnie thought that if she became more educated and more certain on biblical topics that she would be a stronger believer. However, during her time and after completing her education, she found herself with more questions and a greater awareness of all she needed to learn. Bonnie became passionate about seeking out diverse voices, and this led her to sometimes chose the road less traveled.
Bonnie is a skilled author, speaker, and theologian. She completed a Master of Theology at Fuller Seminary. She is the author of “timshell”, the first-ever idiomatic Bible translation. She translated certain sections of the Bible and brings a fresh perspective to the way we read Scripture. She enjoys looking at the Word to get as much of the richness as possible from it. If you're looking to have a broader view of the Scriptures, I think she is a refreshing resource. She also works as a Creativity and Divinity Coach at Radical Wellness Collaborative as she seeks to walk with others on their journey of faith.

The journey of faith isn't always linear. It can be like a winding road, full of twists and turns. Sometimes, to our surprise, we might find ourselves feeling disconnected, asking questions about beliefs once held secure, having doubts, even struggling to trust the people who have led us. So much feels vague and unclear during deconstruction seasons that It can be frightening. If we have the courage to share about it, others might respond with judgment or distance themselves for fear of catching the doubt bug. This only adds to the isolation we feel. In recent years, more people are willing to talk about these experiences, and I am glad. Because Jesus walks with us, this unsought journey inward does not have to lead us to the end of our faith. Rather it becomes a pursuit of personal integrity in our relationship with God, His Word, and His people. Such an effort, especially when done in community with others who care about us and are wise, can lead us to a more beautiful and deeper understanding of both ourselves and God, as opposed to what others want us to believe. It is a slow and courageous process, but a fruitful one nevertheless.
In this conversation with Dan Koch, we hear how he ended up in the "deconstruction" zone and how what he learned has equipped him to help others find a deeper hope and a more beautiful faith. I am so grateful for Dan sharing with us his story and wisdom with such graciousness.

Mental health disorders are an issue for many of us, and it is often and sadly a journey filled with shame and pain.
In this episode, I'm joined by Rebecca Lyons to talk about mental health and our journey of faith. Rebecca started wrestling with panic disorder when she moved to New York. After a year and a half of dealing with panic attacks, she cried out to the Lord, and at that moment, she was flooded with peace and didn't experience another panic attack for seven years. But, the journey did not end for her there. Anxiety still affects her from time to time. Therefore, she established spiritual rhythms to maintain health and renewal. Rebecca is here to remind us that we don't have to perform for God. We can go to God with our rawness, our desperation, our longing, and our despair. His hands are wide open for us.
After our podcast last week on spiritual abuse with Dr. John Townsend, I thought it would be beneficial to have Rebecca's voice here to talk about the prevalence of mental illness in our midst and how it is that it affects our journey of faith. We discussed how we can really talk about it, how we walk with God, and how God equips us, heals us, and even transforms us to help others.

As you know we love to tell stories of people along their journeys of faith. Many times enjoy sharing high moments that we like to talk about and remember. But, we also go through difficult and challenging moments that we don’t tend to talk about but we could learn so much from if we can find a safe space to share those experiences. Sometimes, we make those spaces to hear from you, the listener and sometimes we need an expert to speak into what makes those moments difficult to overcome or how to identify ways to navigate through the hardship. This may surprise you. Pastors also encounter seasons of spiritual crisis. Sadly, we don't often hear their stories. In today's Uncharted podcast, we meet Scott. He's the Pastor of Discipleship at a church in Santa Cruz. He tells us about his own struggles along the journey of faith and the pain of spiritual disorientation. For Scott, the darkest season of his life happened just as he started his work as a youth pastor. It led him to question much of his faith and ministry calling. He went into a six-year journey of digging into his soul and finding his view of God shifting. With the help of a Spiritual Director, he learned to connect with Jesus in a renewed and refreshing way. Can Evangelicals engage in Roman Catholic spiritual practices? Is it okay to explore other faith denominations? Is it wrong to exercise spiritual practices which are different than our own? Scott discusses these questions and much more.
Today we are joined by Amanda Anderson, author of All My Friends Have Issues and founder of her ministry, Heart in Training. Amanda joins us to share about her journey experiencing exile, confusion, and disorientation within her community about political tensions over the past few years. Today on the Uncharted Podcast, Ines and Andy offer up 3 ways to explore what it looks like to know more about your church. These ways are through discussing Governance, Theology, and Worldview. Within those three pillars, you can parse out many areas worth dialoguing with your church pastors, elders, and staff. No matter where you are on your journey of faith, if you are currently or formerly participated in attending a church, having a clear understanding of what makes up these three areas can prepare you and bring clarity to areas of tension.
While we pursue a whole and tangible relationship with God, we need to acknowledge that the application of His intentions through human people has its opportunities and successes. No execution of church is perfect, but we also don’t want you to be surprised when we find ourselves at odds with policies or doctrines of the church you’ve attended for years. Most importantly, should you find yourself in a position to help or in a situation of concern, we suggest attempting to be a part of the solution by asking questions of your leaders in your church. We feel that a healthy church should be transparent with its business dealings and also open and willing to engage questions about their theology and worldview.

He shares about how wrestling with the non-profit 501c3 implications have led him to a deeper relationship with God, by exploring additional avenues for worship, gathering experiences, and spiritual practices.

Welcome to Uncharted, a new podcast with Teacher & Pastor, Ines Franklin. Today, our producer Andy Lara joins us to discuss why we decided to do this podcast and who it may be for.
This podcast is for anyone who:
- Finds themselves in a season of discomfort with some aspect of their faith, but do not wish to abandon it;
- Are disconnected from the faith community to which they used to belong, but are still committed to corporate worship;
- Has been discouraged by the execution of Christ-entered faith, but still hope for a meaningful spiritual life;
