The epic story of Mahabharata has been told and retold countless times now. So much so that it has conspicuously become an inseparable part of the Hindu religion.

Krishna Dwaipayana Vyasa, the author of Mahabharata, envisioned a united Bharatvarsha. His knowledge of history, astronomy, and the geography of Bharatvarsha got embedded in Mahabharata. An epic filled with thrilling stories from all over Bharatvarsha. Connecting far away places makes Mahabharata an important source of information on the development of Hinduism for over 200 years. Let’s learn some facts and figures about the geographical landmass that Mahabharata covered.

Saraswati was a mighty river that flowed from the mountain to the sea sustaining the lives of the Vedic people. This very reference gives a valuable pointer to Saraswati's geography and the search for the river invariably begins from the Himalayas. Loosely translated to “The Flowing One”, this river eventually flowed out of its existence we must say !

Many researchers, archaeologists, and scientists have studied the Indus Valley remains and have found the remains of this river. Even Satellite imaging has shown its mere existence!

Then why did such a river dry out of people’s memories? Why did such a river fade away along with its importance and how it becomes necessary to rethink about this river ? Stay tuned for such answers because we will answer them in this audio.

Music is a universal language. People from different parts of the world listen and admire various types of music. A close friend of music is nature, which itself is a birthgiver of music ! All the notes in music - Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni - can be found in nature.

In India, along with other sciences, music was also to some extent studied significantly, and was used as a great memory tool to memorize different vedas and shlokas. Well, there is science there as well! The vedic chants we hear nowadays are musically so important, that music has proved that singing those chants in that particular manner definitely is a mouth and tongue exercise! And along with this, breathing exercises too !

Lets tune in to understand the science and the vedic literature proving this beautiful language of nature!

We saw that the Varna system was based on the occupation one had. But what defined someone by birth is the Jati of that person - or put in simple words - the caste. The Caste of someone has been a very fragile topic for many. While someone considers it as a fortune, for someone it is a complete nightmare.

But did you know that Caste system was NEVER of Indian Origin? In fact, our Vedas and other important texts definitely speak of all humans being created equal! It was the tyranny of the British Rule that, for their own sake, they introduced such reforms and acts. Only because of this, their administration could function correctly.

But one cannot clap with only one hand, and the other side effect was definitely seen. The caste system definitely was one of the bricks of the walls of destruction among the common people, and did cause a lot of damage. Stay tuned to understand more of hows and whys of this!

India has one of the biggest data protectors - Sanskrit !

You must be astonished and laughing at the same time ! But this is the truth indeed ! Many of the mathematical principles like Fibonacci Sequence and Pascal's Triangle had been discovered by some great Indian mathematicians before 200 BC. These logics were developed to increase the security of the precious data that was there at that time.

Sanskrit prosody or Chandas refers to one of the six Vedangas or limbs of Vedic studies It is the study of poetic metres and verse in Sanskrit. This was used along with mathematics to make the written content more secure.

Maths and Poetry in one single place… one of the earliest “Fusions” indeed!

Since ancient times, the concept of time and it’s measurement has been of great importance. Time and it’s concept is attached to several cultures and traditions. Each having their own explanation and measurement. In Sanskrit, the word Mahurta is derived from two words - Mahu and rata. Mahu - means the immediate or a moment and Rata - means the order.

In Hinduism, it is a tradition among devotees to choose an auspicious time for a good cause like performing a ritual or ceremonies or prayers.

While ‘India’ or ‘Hindustan’ have been more modern names to the world, The name ‘Bharat’ is the ‘real’ or ‘flag-bearer’ name of this nation, named after the King Bharat, a name one always finds associated with the epic Mahabharat.

A sacred and ancient land where the river meets the sea, once lay a legendary kingdom. A kingdom so grand that it stood as the sole metaphor for grandeur. The city of Dwarka. The kingdom of our beloved God, Lord Krishna.

But Is the legend of Dwarka real? What happened to the glorious city of Dwarka? What is the real truth behind the myth of the lost city of Dwarka? The story of the underwater city of Dwarka is filled with myths.

The lost city is about to rewrite its own history.

Mahabharata and Ramayana, one of the well known epics in the world, are believed to have tribes who had Superhumans with some superpowers and super qualities. These people are believed to have come from an extraterrestrial world - sounds weird, doesn’t it ?

Many Hindu texts reveal that these tribes were from an Isolated Geographical location from the whole world, and their point of origin was in deep forests or top of mountains. Along with this, many of these also are believed to have originated on the banks of the Holy Ganges.

Along with this, native tribes also were there who evolved as per the location, region or even the situation. Let us now explore these different Indian Exotic Tribes.

Chaos, Yin and Yang, Hiranyagarbha, The Norse legend of Midgard are some of the most popular creation myths that we know. They are generally passed from generation to generation. Creation Myths may have no evidence to prove whether they are wrong or right but they have become the most important part of societies over the millennia.

They are the patchwork of myths and stories of every culture across the world. They make us think over some crucial questions like how the world began? They make you think about God, his creation and above all the holy creation of Humankind.

The North Star, aka the Polaris, has become a boon to many travellers in sea as well as on land to find directions in the night. One can easily spot the North Star in the sky, and then go ahead. Fun fact: North Star would be directly over your head if you were at the North Pole!

Like every other star, it also has cycles of getting bright and dim, but since the past few decades, it has been getting brighter and brighter. The reason why the Polaris is so important is because the Earth’s axis is directly pointed towards it.

It would not be surprising for many people when the word Polaris would be linked to the word Dhruva Tara, named after a small boy who shook the world to achieve recognition and respect by sacrificing his comforts! Let's revive this old story of the Dhruva Tara from our childhood times and understand how it all happened! Indeed, he is up above the world so high, and he is the diamond in the sky!

India has a plethora of tales and legends written in the 18 Puranas of Vedic literature. But are these stories true or are they simply mythical? Do these stories actually convey facts or are these stories nothing more than epic fantasy? This instagram series of photos talk about the tale of Vashishtha and Arundhati and the hidden logic behind that tale.

This beautiful tale is associated with astronomical understanding, and tells us that ancient Indian stories convey a deeper philosophical and intellectual meaning than the literal moral of the story.

While so many relate the calendar with the rotation of the sun, one must also understand that the moon and its phases are also important in the aging of the earth, and this has been beautifully put forth by many Indian Astrologers!

From the beautiful Indian Festivals to some important astrological events, everything has been foreseen already!

The moon has been a favourite subject of many poets, painters, authors, writers, and even sculptors! Better known as the satellite of the earth, the moon has been a constant companion and a guide for the travellers traveling in the night time.

Apart from this, the moon has been also of utter importance in Indian Astronomy, Indian Astrology and is also viewed as a God by some people in India. Let's explore more about this heavenly body and understand the Indian Astronomical side of the moon.

The importance of the moon mainly was illustrated because of the Nakshatras, one of the most important concepts in Hindu Astronomy.

A Nakshatra is basically a star or a group of stars. There are 27 of them, and the moon takes days to travel from one Nakshatra to another, devoting equal time to everyone - Fair Justice !

But why does this become so important ? Well, being the earth’s satellite, the moon’s path also being elliptical, shows the path of the moon and how it goes from one nakshatra to another - quite interesting, aint it?

Everything irevolves around time and is ultimately dissolved in the same. Rather than being some parameter to measure the day night cycle, time has been more precious, and more of a jewel to all of us.

But did you ever wonder, What is Time? Is Time Real? Is the nature of Time linear or is it cyclical? As per the general theory of relativity, Time is relative. it depends on the perspective, after all!

The ancients believed that Time is cyclical in nature. Many Indian texts show that great amounts of time repeated after certain intervals.

Also known as one of the Sapta Chiranjivis (7 Immortals), Hanuman is viewed as a God of Strength, Devotion and Confidence. He has been loved by people of all age groups, and has been a source of inspiration to many people.

While many know about the tales of his might and valour in the legendary Ramayana, very few of us are aware about who he actually was and how he finds a place in the vedic literature.

The Satya Loka team brings to you an interesting approach to explain Lord Hanuman.

Do you know the reason why Ram Navami is known to be celebrated on the ninth day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Chaitra?

Ramnavami is celebrated in the memory of the birth of Lord Rama, the son of King Dashrath of Ayodhya. Ram Navami according to the Georgian calendar, falls in the month of March or April.

The epic Ramayana is an essential part of Indian tradition. But questions like, did Rama actually exist? Was the epic inspired by actual events? If in fact this chain of events really did take place then what is the evidence? Well, there are multiple astronomical references and assumptions in the epic Ramayana itself.

Here are some freshly evaluated astronomical observations of the text.
