welcome back! in today's episode i go through the differences between culture and religion and how the thin line that has been drawn between them has caused the misrepresentation of muslims and arabs in the media. i also make an attempt at debunking some of these ideas, and share some personal stories of course! here's the rundown:

Islam: the religion

Muslim: someone who practices Islam

Arab: Someone who comes from an Arab speaking country. Being Arab does NOT automatically mean they are Muslim

Arabic: A language that is NOT only spoken by Muslims

Hijab: A head covering worn by women in Islam as a way to practice modesty. Not all muslim women choose to wear the Hijab!

Countries cannot be "Muslim" but they can have a majority population of people who practice the religion.

Things like arranged marriage and are not part of Islam, they are culture and have to do with the place (country, people, etc).

in this episode, i talk about how the commercialization of self care has stripped away all meaning of what the practice is truly meant to be; personal. there is nothing wrong with wanting to use nice products for your skincare routine, however the problem lies within the high standard for self care that we have created, and how it serves to keep women in a cycle of taking care of their looks as we are taught that that's where our value lies.
