Assumptions can change the way we view many things in the Bible, including authorship and the date of the writings. That leads to people assuming things that make it impossible for Paul to have written letters like 1 Timothy. So, did Paul write that particular letter?
Everyone uses the phrase and generally we are encouraged to not lie, but is that what John was saying in his gospel?
Preaching and mission trips are valuable and certainly part of the Lord's work, but they are only two of the ways we can serve God. "Fellowship" is often used to describe a church gathering or meal. But this isn't quite what John was getting at when he said, "so that you may have fellowship with us" in 1 John 1. We recieve numerous questions about elders, deacons, and the process of appointing or electing them. It would be impossible to answer them all because many are specific to a congregational situations and often rely on opinion rather than direct instruction from the Bible. In this first of two discussions, Dan and Jed will discuss how many elders or deacons a congregation should have, how the term elder is used throughout the Bible, why Dan doesn't see Peter as a congregational elder, and who passages in Titus and Timothy are addressing when Paul discusses the need for rebuking false teaching and sin. It's a lot and that's not even half the questions! That's why we needed a part two. 3 years ago we had a discussion on Public Confession and how that relates directly or indirectly to the tradition of coming down front after a worship service. When Jude mentions Enoch in his letter it leaves many modern readers with questions. More than likely, you are one of those people. So, what is the Book of Enoch? Is it scripture? If it's mentioned in the Bible, why do many of us know little to nothing about it? Here's our question all the way from Australia! " Is all of life worship? Many argue that OT worship was restricted to cultic practices associated with the Temple, but NT worship consists of all our activities since we have God dwelling with us always and we are the Temple. If so, is there a difference between worship in the assembly and worship in day-to-day lives?" It's a big and important question. The devil is in the details is a common phrase, but is God there too? Does God care about the details of how we live our lives? You may have heard that when we are baptized into Christ we become a new man, but we often want to know how that happens and what that really looks like in our daily life. If we call ourselves Christians, do we truly have to be different from the world around us? Dan and Jed look into words from Jesus and the apostles to help understand this question.
Have you been called to ministry? Do you feel God has called you to a certain path in life? Were you called to be a Christian? Well, it depends how you mean that word. Like many words in English, we have one word to represent several words from the Greek and Hebrew. Let's explore some passages from God's Word to better understand the word "called" and what it really means in our walk with Christ.

Since it isn't uncommon - it's not something to feel ashamed of but it is something to prepare for and work through. Rather than arguing about this phrase, let's look in the Old and New Testaments to see what is being conveyed when it is used. It's much richer than we tend to see it.

The Bible is a religious text and that can cause skeptical people to dismiss what is found inside. Rather than this being a barrier to discussions and sharing the gospel with others, let's look at what outside documents say about the Bible, Jesus, Christians, and Christian practices. There is a lot of information out there that verifies what we find in the Bible. We have a timeline on the screen throughout this video. What does it mean to have fellowship with another person or between congregations? Is it just making personal choices between congregations or something much more? Maybe you have heard someone discussing the marks of fellowship and wondered what that meant or what they are based on. Sometimes these discussions may seem unnecessary or irrelevant, but as many of you know they can become personal and divisive very easily if we don't keep our focus on Christ and his Word.
We really hope you'll listen to the entirety of this conversation, but if you have to skip ahead - make sure and listen to the last 3 minutes as Jed and Dan give some concluding thoughts. The Psalms have been and continue to be an important part of worship, but there are many who question their place in New Testament worship. In this conversation, Dan and Jed will walk through the structure of several Psalms, and look at where these Psalms show up in the New Testament writings. What's the difference between a Tabernacle and a Synagogue? Or Solomon's Temple and Moses' Tabernacle? Aren't they all just places of worship? Let's spend some time looking deeper into these places, how they functioned, who established them, and what was done in each place. God has revealed his name to us. Is it the same as the name of his son, Jesus? What is the correct name for God, or does it change from passage to passage? When you were baptized someone probably said something before you were taken into the water. Do you remember what they said? Does it matter what they said or if they said anything at all? Who gets to make the rules? Who is in charge? Let's keep this one simple - the answer is God. If only it could end there. If you were able to choose a congregation from the New Testament, which one would you join? For a variety of reasons, you may be looking for a new church home. How do you find a new congregation? What are some criteria you can use to make sure you will grow spiritually wherever you land? Let's face it, a lot of the things we look for and notice aren't always based on Bible but on personal preferences and personalities. So, if there aren't a lot of specific verses to guide us are there general principles we can follow? We hope to encourage the heart of the seeker away from a consumer's approach. We're starting a two-part (possibly three) discussion about leaving a congregation and searching for a new one. We can't cover every possible situation and we know there are lots of them. This video hopes to lay the groundwork and look at scriptures that address some common things related to congregations and their health. We also discuss personal relationships within a congregation and how that affects your spiritual growth. If you haven't ever had to leave a congregation or consider doing so - know that it isn't an easy choice for anyone. We don't want to oversimplify or downplay the impact this has on individuals, families, and the congregations involved. What is a Christian's responsibility to serve? Is it on the individual to find a role to play? Should the local congregation create spaces to serve and be active in filling those service needs? It is vitally important to the Church that people know their gifts and use them in service to God. Congregational leaders should closely consider how they are building up those in their care and encouraging them to use their gifts. But what does it look like? How does this work happen? Lent is a religious observance of fasting and preparation leading up to Easter. In the churches of Christ, this has not been something we typically make a part of our yearly activities. Who Gets the Contribution? - Money may be a touchy subject for people today, but it isn't one God and his Word have shied away from. The book of Ephesians puts on full display the two sides of the spiritual coin. This letter from Paul was written to highlight the mystery now revealed in Christ. It emphasizes how people live before and after they are made new in Christ. This is done over and over through the language of how we walk. Mix in several prayers and practical applications and you have the book of Ephesians.

The gloves really come off in 2 Corinthians. Paul pours out his heart to a congregation he loves very much and makes a case for exactly what being a minister of the gospel means. Let's look at what would upset him so much that he calls out people as Ministers of Satan. Along the way, we may find a few verses that we tend to take out of context when we don't understand the intent behind this particular letter from Paul to the Church in Corinth.
Is original sin in the Bible? Do children carry the sins of their parents? Should babies be baptized for reasons other than salvation? This can be a deeply personal subject for many people; so, let's look to the Bible for answers.

"This week we wanted to address a question that came in through our YouTube comments. It is a really good question that will impact the way you view the Bible, the Church, and your walk with God. In this discussion, we can't answer the whole question (it's a big one), but we hope it gives a good foundation to continue the discussion and prompt more questions related to specific doctrines. Whether it is translated dignified, respectable, or even grave (as in the KJV) - Paul is encouraging Timothy to be a godly person in his ministry. More than that, he wants Timothy to teach all the others in the church in Ephesus to live lives of godliness. What does that look like? What doesn't it look like? Let's dive into the 1st letter to Timothy to find how all the teachings it contains center around this desire to live the godly lives Christ called his believers to.
In his second letter to Thessalonica, Paul dismisses more misunderstandings about the second coming of Christ and what it will mean for both believers and unbelievers. These misunderstandings were confusing the believers and even causing some people to become idle busybodies. Paul hopes to encourage them and further ground them in their trust in Jesus as they continued to struggle through various forms of persecution.

Paul had to leave the new converts in Thessalonica in a hurry. He says he was torn from them and has been concerned about them and their faith ever since. So, in this first letter to the Christians in Thessalonica, what does Paul find to be of most importance? What piece of wisdom can he pass along to encourage their faith and commitment amidst persecution? Let's dig into this letter to see what the big picture is in what he writes to them.
To love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and strength is something you have probably read and even sung many times as you worship God. This is a major point in the book of Deuteronomy and Moses details exactly how that should look in the lives of God's people. Yes, there are curses for those who fail to make God the one they follow, but there are also rich blessings for those who do. Let's dive into this final book of the Torah that we know has deeply influenced not just the theology of the old covenant, but the new one as well.
Jude, the brother of Jesus had in mind to write a letter of encouragement about salvation to a group of believers. However, something happened that made him change course and write a completely different letter. Let's look at what was so important to Jude and why it matters to us today.
Is there hope for people who act against God? Obadiah is a short book with a clear answer to the people of that time. What can we learn from the curse that fell upon them? Make sure to watch this one all the way to the end. Dan and Jed try to clarify that even in a message of judgment, we find a glimmer of hope through the fulfillment of Abraham's covenant with God.
The book of Numbers is so much more than a census of the people (although there are two times all the people are counted). It is a book of history that tells a meaningful and often troubling story of the Israelite's time in the wilderness. Rebellion is sadly one of the consistent themes of this book. Thankfully, there are great lessons for God's people of all times throughout this book of numberings and rebellion. We encourage you to look deeply at this narrative in Israel's history.
There once was a man who had everything, but it was all taken away. The end. Pretty sad story right? It probably leaves you with more questions than answers. Sadly, that is often how the book of Job is treated. We read chapter one and maybe chapter two, but rarely do we consider the story as a whole. Let's dive into the structure of Job to find what the main point is and how you need the whole book to understand it.
Can't we all just get along? This is a vague question often tossed into the middle of an argument that seems too big to solve. In the book of Philippians, Paul calls on the Christians there to stop looking to their own interest and care about their neighbor. He even gives them examples of how to do this and why it is vitally important. It's not just the sentiment of go along to get along, but work through your disagreements for a very important reason.
By words or actions, there has long been a movement to add to the commands of Christ. No, we aren't just talking in the last 100 years or so, but literally going back to the beginning of the Church. The book of Galatians addresses just this problem. Is the grace of Christ and His gospel truly enough? Paul fought this battle time and time again; so how will it play out in Galatians and what does it mean for us today?
Paul had helped establish a congregation in a city that had a history of idolatry and division. Is it any surprise that he would have to readdress those issues and help them refocus on what is important? But, what was Paul's main point in this letter, or is 1st Corinthians just a collection of various teachings? How can we see the big picture of this letter and use it to help us understand the context of everything else? In today's climate of division and disagreement, there may be more here for us than we initially consider.

2 Peter can seem like a strange letter in that it starts in the place that many gospel messages tend to end. So, if it isn't a letter convincing people to follow Christ or of the truth of the gospel, what is the point of 2 Peter? It's not a long letter; so, Peter is definitely getting right to the point. Let's dive into this discussion together and look at the idea of Christian growth - where we can grow and why it is important.
Romans is often discussed as purely a theological statement by Paul, but if we look a bit deeper, we can see that Paul was addressing specific issues within the church at Rome. These issues impact us all and the way we approach Christ and worship with each other. So, what is the big picture of Romans and how does it impact some of the passages some of us know by heart?

This episode was recorded on July 8, 2020. The concept of social justice is on many of our minds, but many people still don't know how to be involved in those conversations. First, yes, it is biblical to be concerned about social justice. Second, the Bible gives us plenty of places to start those discussions, but James is directly concerned about the subject. So, exactly how does the book of James approach social justice? What verses are contained in this particular book that maybe we weaken by taking them out of their context? The book of Luke and the book of Acts are written by the same person. They are addressed to the same man. They have the same thematic elements and focus running through them both. Essentially, they are one story in two volumes or parts. So, why do we study them separately? Is it hurting our ability to understand the focus of this recounting of Jesus' life and the formation of His Church? Let's explore them together and see what we find. There might even be an Old Testament prophet who can provide some clarity to this question.
John is definitely the most different amongst the four gospel accounts. So what is John trying to tell us? John makes clear that the miracles were more than just a showing of power. He does this by describing the signs of Jesus and what those signs meant. John also introduces us to a host of witnesses including himself to help reveal more about the life of Jesus and his teachings. As we continue studying the big picture point of a book in the Bible, we have come to the book of Ezekiel. He saw the weel. He saw dry bones come alive. He played war games in the dirt. He was carried by his hair to a vision to look in on the Temple. But what does it all mean? Is there even a single message of this priestly prophet? Ezekiel is a large book with a lot to process, but if you want a hint - read the last verse and then join us for this week's discussion.

First, CWD is going to take a short break in the month of May. We will be sharing some of our older conversations that haven't yet been released in our podcast. Appropriately enough, one of those discussions from October 18, 2018, is on fasting! Fasting is in the Bible. Jesus fasted. Jesus taught about fasting. Why don't we talk about it or do it more often? Let's look at why fasting is important and how it was used and maybe that will help us put it into practice.
You are teaching a Bible class or quoting scripture to a friend and you say "Jesus said in Matthew 5..." Wait, should you have said, "Jesus says?" Were you implying the words of Jesus are only historical sayings? How does any of that relate to the passage in Hebrews 4:12? It's always fun to see how a simple thought or question really can enhance our appreciation of God and his Word when we look into it a bit deeper.

Depending on your translation, 1 Timothy 3:15 calls the church a pillar, support, buttress, or even a foundation. What exactly does that mean within the context of 1 Timothy 3 and the letter as a whole? Does it change where our instruction as Christians comes from? Let's take a look at the message Paul was sharing with Timothy and how it can inform us today, even within our current situation of a worldwide viral outbreak.
Christian discussions about music don't always have to be about "church music." How do we use our view of Christ and a Christian worldview into other music spaces in our life? Do I even think about my music and the messages I'm soaking in? This is something I try to challenge myself to do from time to time; so, I took your suggestions and am diving into a song I am unfamiliar with. Dan recently returned from his second trip to Israel and a common question he is asked is something about why he wants to go or if a Christian should go. It is easy to take for granted the ability to sing together with fellow Christians on Sunday. We can even sing together in the public square if we wanted to! That hasn't always been the case. For that reason, I think it's important to take a "quick" look through history to see how we have a long history of singing together and should celebrate our ability to do so today. I want you to know that I have always been interested in music, but my ways of thinking about it have changed with my life situations. My ability and desire to think more deeply about music have changed depending on my time and interest. I’m thankful for how I can listen to a wide range of music and find connection points to Christ and Christianity.

We all remember the golden calf and what happened to those that worshipped it right? Well, around that same event, God told the people to not make any idols in the form of anything in heaven above or earth below. What does that mean when it comes to paintings of Jesus? What about hanging a cross in our home? Is it breaking God's law to use images of Jesus in teaching materials? This seems to be a fairly open and shut conversation, but if we are honest with ourselves - there is a lot to wrestle with. How many of our personal feelings and cultural norms will we confront in light of God's words?

It's time for another lightning round!
We are always thankful for the questions and comments that come in, but it can be tough to answer them all in the program. So, from time to time we gather together some of the questions that can be answered in short form for a lightning round. This week, we will be discussing reward levels in heaven (2:02), what it means for John to be a witness to Jesus (5:42), and why Priscilla may be listed first when she and her husband are mentioned (10:38).

What about the person on a deserted island without a Bible? There have always been versions of the question to consider the state of people's souls who haven't heard the gospel. Usually, Romans 1:9 comes into that conversation at some point. In this particular conversation, Dan walks us through several parts of Romans to consider exactly what judges a person? Enough about Heaven, what about Hades?
When you hear the word Hades, you probably have many different images come to your mind. It may be a classic mythical painting. It may be something from Disney's "Hercules." It may make you think of an open grave. Whatever it is, the Bible talks about Hades (called Sheol in the Old Testament) many times. So what is Hades or where is it? If you want to dive deeper into this subject, we did several videos about Heaven and Paradise last year.

If you haven't thought about it before, you will at some point in your life. The difficult thing about this conversation is how many competing ideas there are in the religious world that have muddied the waters. Let's look at what the scriptures say, and we encourage you to send any follow-up comments or questions you have on this subject.

Isn't the New Testament Church a progression of the faith of Abraham? If so, why do we say the Church was established at Pentecost? This is a great question that helps us see the importance of Abraham and the promises God made long ago.
Continuing our discussion about the Sunday assembly, people have asked us to discuss the use of the word "church." Do we go to church? Are we the church? Is there a difference? But along with the discussion on the word itself, we have had several questions about whether or not it is even important to go to a weekly assembly. As always, we enjoy continuing these discussions together. Hopefully, they are informative and help you continue these discussions with us and those close to you.
This was a pretty open-ended question; so, we hope we began to address it in a satisfactorily way. We do leave off with a few questions for all of you. What does worship mean to you? What situational worship questions do you think would help with this conversation? We fully understand that we, personally, don't have the answers to everything and the Bible doesn't directly address every nuance of modern worship situations, but by pulling together and sharing the things we encounter - maybe we can all encourage and learn from one another. May we all strive to worship God with our whole heart out of our love and adoration for him.
Predestination is a difficult concept to fully comprehend. This is especially true when we consider how powerful God is and how he is at work in our lives. So, has God already chosen the direction of my life? What does the Bible mean when it uses the word "predestination?" Predestination, Calvinism, the Elect - these are all deep theological concepts that may seem confusing to many of us, but it comes down to this: Am I already saved? Do the choices I make really matter? As usual, let's look to God's word and explore the scriptures.
Back in September we discussed Jesus' sacrifice and what it accomplished. We were asked by several people, "Why did God need this sacrifice?" Several people commented that if God is all powerful he should be able to change the rules. So, could God have changed the rules? What does Jesus' sacrifice tell us about God? This week we approach one of the great mysteries about the nature of God.
You have probably heard the 5 steps of salvation referenced in some fashion, but are there really 5 steps? If so, what are they? Wouldn't a five step plan be a works-based salvation? Dan and Jed go through a lot of scriptures for this one; so, grab your Bibles and let's explore this topic together.

When exactly did the church of Christ start? Has that particular name always existed above the door where Christians gathered? Are people who go to the church (or Church) of Christ the only ones going to Heaven? This is a long conversation, but a very important one. Please listen, look into the scriptures, and let us know your thoughts or follow-up questions.
At the end of many sermons you may have heard the preacher invite people to come down front for a variety of reasons. One of those could be for the prayers of the church. It is also very possible you have heard people discuss the need to "go down front" after the sermon to ask forgiveness for something. Where did that idea come from? Is it something found in scripture? Sin and the need for confession are real; so, how do we confess our sins, and who should we confess our sins to?
Can we be baptized on behalf of someone who has already died? There is a passage in 1 Corinthians 15 that mentions this practice, but what exactly was Paul trying to say? Let's look at the passage in the context of the rest of the chapter and see what we can find out.
Hebrews 3:16 tells us that we are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells within us. How does that influence and inform our discussion on Temple worship in the modern era? How do passages about instruments in the book of Revelation play into this conversation as well?
In our continued discussion about hermeneutics (or Biblical interpretation), we were asked to explore the topic of instrumental music in worship using the concept of normative teaching we discussed last week. We hope this will further explain the concept of normative (whole Bible) teaching by showing what it looks like to use the process in study. So, let's look at God's design for worship from the beginning and how it has been recorded throughout the Bible.
As a follow-up question to our discussion on hermeneutics in our video about the concept of "rightly-handling" scripture, we were asked to discuss the concept of Pattern Theology. Dan walks us through the origin of the concept and how it has been applied. We also discuss the deeper implications of this concept on a person's whole approach to the Bible.
Throughout the Bible, there are a lot of references to evil spirit coming upon people. Sometimes the passage even says things like "an evil spirit from God." What exactly does that mean? If we believe God is truly good, how does that impact our view of God? So, did God create evil?
Did Jesus pay off the Devil when he died on the cross? Is God a bully who needs payment before he will love us? These are questions that may come up when you start thinking about exactly what happed as part of the death of Jesus on the cross. Often you will hear the words ransom and propitiation used in these discussions, but what do those words mean? Are they mutually exclusive terms, or is the sacrifice of Christ something a bit more complex?
This is a very basic subject to our foundational understanding of the Word of God. However, it is a subject that has caused a lot of division and misunderstandings from just about every group to handle the Bible. So, what are some beginning guidelines for understanding the scriptures? Can we be expected to "rightly handle the word of truth" as Paul exhorts Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:15? We encourage you to listen to and comment on this very important discussion. This could be a much larger discussion, but for now we will focus on three main ways to look at a scripture. 1) How does a passage fit into the Bible sequence? 2) Do you see God's Word as fully inspired or written by men to the culture they were part of? 3)How does the Bible interpret itself?
Our discussion on Elders prompted a lot of comments and questions. Many of the follow-up questions centered around whether or not the Elder qualifications were truly binding or if they could be (or needed to be) shifted because of different cultural settings. So, for this discussion, we looked at the overall pattern for spiritual leaders throughout the Bible. We also consider the difference between a spiritual Elder and a specific congregational Elder. Finally, we discussed some of the pitfalls of weak spiritual leadership. As always, your follow-up comments and questions are appreciated and helpful as we all explore the scriptures together.
Many of us had to memorize them as children and they still come up in trivia games from time to time, but are the 10 Commandments in Exodus still the Biblical laws we should follow today? Expanding beyond this question - what role should the Old Testament play in the lives of Christians? It may seem fairly simple or straightforward, but this question is a foundational concept that shapes how we view scripture.
Are we just matter - just a product of our biology? Or is there something more? We talk a lot about our soul and the afterlife, but we haven't talked about that subject directly. So, this week we were asked to discuss the soul and passages in the Bible that illustrate the idea of an immortal soul. It eventually leads to us talking about ghosts, but I think we will save that discussion for another video.
Choosing someone to be part of a local congregation's Eldership is an important and daunting task. It is also a very prayerful decision by an individual to accept that type of calling. But how firm are the qualifications for being part of an Eldership? Can't there be exceptions? What if someone can't be an Elder? Does that diminish their influence or council? These are just a few of the questions discussed in this week's Conversation with Dan.
Have you ever thought about how exactly the Spirit works within a person? What is that relationship like and how does it form? Some view the Spirit as a force existing within the words of God only, but not outside of them. Some view the Spirit as an extension of God's words. Some see the Spirit as an entity with its own actions and will. Let's look together at the multitude of scripture that helps us better understand the Holy Spirit and its role in the lives of Christians.
Does the New Testament teach that we should literally meet and worship on the first day of the week, or does it point to a renewed idea of sabbath rest under Christ? Is there a pattern for weekly practices on what we now call Sunday? We were asked to specifically address this question in the context of a passage in Acts and 1st Corinthians, but it relates to one of our larger discussions about the concept of "the Lord's Day."
If we are the made in the likeness of God, does that mean we are gods too? Does it mean that we can know what God physically looks like by looking in the mirror? There is a lot of speculation about what this "made in God's image" means, but what does the scripture tell us on this subject?
It is not uncommon for men to take off their hats inside a building or when praying at an event outside. In some churches, women are more likely to wear hats to worship than others. Is there a theological reason for these practices? Understanding ancient languages and ancient cultures are often important to understanding the context of a passage, and today's discussion definitely benefited from that understanding.
When Moses approaches the burning bush, he knew there is something he needed to stop and check out. As he later writes the story down as part of Israel's history he used several names to convey who he was speaking to in the bush. So, who exactly was he speaking with? Was it God, an angel, or maybe someone else? Dan takes us into the original language and across the Old and New Testament to get a better understanding of this event and who was part of it.
Do I have to give to the church or can I take care of it on my own? Dan helps us answer that question by looking at the pattern set forth throughout the Bible.
Why can't the Devil leave me alone? Can't God stop him from tempting me? Why do I have to suffer through so many things? These are very common questions and sometimes difficult answers, but let's explore the scripture to see what we can find.
If you have prayed once or many times, you have probably wondered at some point if an all powerful God really wanted to hear from you - especially if you keep asking for or saying the same things. The Bible has some very clear passages for us to explore on this topic.
If you have taken the Lord's Supper just about anywhere, you have probably heard the phrase "take this in a worthy manner." What exactly did that phrase mean in its original context and how should it affect our attitude about taking the Lord's Supper today? Is there ever a time a baptized believer shouldn't take the Lord's Supper? We discuss this subject a lot; so, if you have further comments or questions, send them our way!
Amidst one of John the Baptist's fiery sermons in Luke 3, he mentions that Jesus will come and baptize with "the Holy Spirit and with fire." What does that mean? Who was he saying would receiving this (these?) type of baptism? And what does a winnowing fork have to do with it? For such a short book in the Bible, Jude brings up a lot of questions. Why is a quote used that isn't anywhere in the Bible? Why are angles fighting over the body of Moses? Who really wrote the book anyway? There's a lot more, but this is probably enough for one conversation.
We received the question asking if Heaven and Earth will eventually be combined or if the afterlife will be on a renewed Earth. Specifically, we were asked to look at Romans 8:19-23 and 2 Peter 3:6-13. Through the conversation, we tried to cover these passages and give other foundational background to the conversation. This conversation is a long one, but it will benefit your thoughts and further questions if you listen to the whole thing. (It's okay if you can't listen to it all at once!)
Let's be honest, the Bible talks a lot about slavery, and that can make us uncomfortable. So, the question that was presented is a fair one. You might hear that Christ established his church at Pentecost, but then you think about how the modern "Church of Christ" is associated with the restoration movement. Does that mean Christ's church didn't exist for a period of time? Have Christians been active since the Pentecost sermon? If so - where were they?
In the Bible we read passages that use the phrase "God above all gods," but what does that mean? Are there really other gods? Dan and Jed discuss the Hebrew term used in these passages and what implications that has on our understanding of the Spiritual world around us.
Continuing our discussion on church planting, we were asked how the church spread in the first century. If we use the New Testament scriptures as a guide, what did early Christians use? Church planting is not a new concept, but recently there is renewed focus on topic. This is especially true as the concept of a "multi-campus congregation" is easier to coordinate with various technologies. Is there a biblical model for these efforts? "And they came to Jesus and saw the demon-possessed man." If it could happen then, can it happen now? If it can happen, how does it work? Can a demon ambush you on the street? So many questions for such a strange subject. We are sure there will be plenty of comments and questions!
What authority do Elders have in the local congregation? Does the Bible say we have to do what the Elders tell us? Better yet, what is the Bible's view on authority and where does it come from?
Seems like a straightforward question, but the answer isn't easy to explain. That doesn't mean we won't make an attempt! Let's look at the scriptures together and what the original language was trying to convey.
Either you have seen the brackets in your Bible, a meme on Facebook, or heard it from a friend who is asking about the Bible's authenticity - we have all heard at some point that the modern Bible is missing verses. Is that true? Let's look at a few common passages people point to and discuss why or why not this may be happening.

We all like to be excited about the good things in our life. Sadly, not everyone has the same opportunities or economic status. How can Christians show thankfulness while also being humble and understanding of the brothers and sisters around them? Especially this time of year, how can we all express thanksgiving to God for whatever we have?
Have you ever read a statement in the Bible and thought, "Surely, that's not what it means!" Don't worry you're not alone. Some statements in the Bible do seem to be a bit overblown, but are they really? Let's look at one verse in particular and then you can let us know if you'd like us to explore the context around other verses.
When choosing a Bible for your personal use, it can be overwhelming to look at a shelf full of Bibles in a store with various letters on their cover. Dan shares a few of his thoughts and tips on choosing a personal Bible. He also shares a few pluses and minuses about some specific translations. What is your preferred translation and what makes it work in your life?
What does it mean to pray in the Spirit? More specifically, what does it mean to pray in the Spirit with tongues? 1 Corinthians chapter 14 covers this topic for the church in Corinth, but what does it mean for us today?
Is there a New Testament diet plan? Should we strive to eat like Adam & Eve would have? Is there anything we are restricted from eating as a Christian? It should come as no surprise that many people have this question and there are many books devoted to various eating plans based on the Bible. We are not doctors and we aren't making any recommendations for healthier living, but we do want to read the scriptures and know what they say on this subject.
Does the Bible talk about crossdressing? Can we say that wearing a certain type of clothes is a sin? Jed and Dan have a very open conversation and try to be as practical as possible in addressing this question.
We were asked to talk about John 20:23. The passage deals with forgiveness, but in what way? Is it about God's forgiveness or our own? Did the Apostles have the power to forgive sins? For that matter, do we? Let's look at the passage in context and see what Jesus was telling his disciples then and us today.
There are many reasons why someone might ask this particular question. We took a dive into Acts and Romans as well as a few other scriptures to find some answers.
How can I trust the Bible? It's so old. It's filled with strange stories. It contains concepts I don't understand. How can I trust in this document enough to live my life according to its words? Hopefully this conversation with help you with our own personal journey with the Bible. As always, let us know if you have any follow-up questions on this subject.
Heaven is definitely the destination that Christians hope to reach at the end of time. However, there are passages that indicate sin exists in Heaven! Is that true? Doesn't the Bible say that there will be no more sin in Heaven? Let's look to the scriptures to better understand this complex subject.
It is not uncommon to hear people take a very scientific approach to answering the questions of life. What is surprising is how many people who profess to be Christians actively diminish the presence of spiritual beings. As Dan walks us through many passages in this conversation, it is obvious the Bible wants us to be aware of things that exist beyond the physical. But does that mean that demons are active in today's world? Did the Devil take a break after Jesus was raised from the dead? This is a conversation we really encourage you to spend some time with, read the scriptures, and send us any follow up questions and comments you may have.
Is there really such a thing? If you read a few passages in the Bible it certainly sounds real. Something unforgivable is an extremely scary concept and something that probably warrants looking into. We promise there is more than doom and gloom to this discussion.
Is there an exact moment when God forgives my sins? Does it matter if I am a Christian or not? Do I need to keep a list of my sins and pray for each one of them? These are just a few questions Dan and Jed covered in part 1 of this follow-up question about forgiveness.
During the Christmas season there seems to be a renewed interest in Jesus Christ and especially in his birth. However, there seems to be some hesitation or even conflict in some congregations as to whether or not this part of Jesus' story should be addressed. How does your congregation handle the idea of a Christmas program or worship service? Whatever we do, may we all strive to be more Biblical and less worried about traditions.
It's quite a combination of topics, but we had several shorter questions we decided to address in one video. Since the original posting of this video, it has been question number three that people have listened to and written us about the most. 1) So, is dancing all bad? 2) Does the Bible tell us how to show joy for a baptism or other events during worship? 3) Can we go to Heaven if we are cremated?
The way the Lord's Supper is distributed varies depending on where you live, what kind of building you are in, and even the way you interpret scripture. So, how did people take the Lord's Supper in the early church? Can we do anything that lessens the significance of the Lord's Supper? We've covered a lot of questions related to this subject, and we welcome your continued dialogue on this special part of our worship services.
Do I have to give away everything I own to truly live for God? Am I living up to my potential in the Kingdom if I don't become a preacher? We all have fears and doubts especially when it comes to "measuring up" according to standards that God doesn't put in place.
At the end of the book of James, it mentions anointing someone's head with oil and praying for them. Why don't more people use oil in their prayers? The scripture seems to indicate it is something of importance. Are we missing out on a deeper spiritual power or presence?
If you have ever read the Bible and wondered why the books are ordered in the way they are - you aren't alone. So, how did our English bible get to be the way it is? Why can't it be in chronological order? When it really comes down to it - is there a good way to get a clear picture of the overall story of the Bible? Let's look into the history of the Bible and see how we can know its story.
