Today is the first day of June 2022, a month to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and the progress which has been made towards equality all over the world.
Today is the Global Day of Parents, so I’ll be speaking about parents from a few different LGBTQ+ perspectives.
In this episode, I discuss sensitive topics, including parental acceptance of LGBTQ+ people and the effects that a lack of acceptance can have on youths.

Greetings Podcast Listeners. Welcome back to my podcast on LGBTQ+ Education. It’s been a while, and although it’s not pride month or LGBTQ+ history month, I did feel as if I let you down in some way during LGBTQ+ history month because honestly, I did not post nearly enough. So, rather than this episode being to commemorate a specific month, you could just see it as a standalone episode… or an episode to commemorate Heartstopper which was released on Netflix last week. Anyways… I’ve had this episode on my mind for a while now, partly because it’s something I’ve done research on for a presentation at school, but also because of some comments I received from a listener after I reposted an article regarding conversion therapy, I won’t go into that right now… but let’s begin by looking at conversion therapy and exactly what it is.

Welcome to the first LGBTQ+ Education episode of 2022!
I’m sorry about the lack of episodes this LGBT History month, but I’ve been really busy catching up on school work and releasing my History Podcast episodes. So, with the release of this episode, I would like to wish you a Happy New Year and a Happy LGBT History month. In this episode, I’ll be speaking about the meaning of LGBTQ+ and how the community became known as such.

In order to improve the listening experience for listeners and to expand my audience, I have decided to divide my LGBTQ+ Education series and my History curriculum-based series into two separate podcasts. Rest assured, the original podcast will remain the same, the website will remain the same, all social media will remain the same. Except it is organised better.
Over the rest of the month, I will be re-releasing one episode each week on this podcast and will begin releasing new episodes in February's LGBTQ+ History Month.
Greetings podcast listeners. Welcome to another episode of my podcast.
52 years ago today is when the Stonewall Uprising began— the most significant event in the history of the gay liberation movement and the foundation of the modern fight for LGBTQ rights.
The Stonewall uprising, a series of clashes in New York City's Greenwich Village neighbourhood is now remembered as a pivotal event in the history of LGBTQ+ rights.
Leading to the first Gay Pride Parade a year later in 1970, in June, which since has formed the custom of Pride Month in June. All of those who participated in the six days of unrest in and around the Stonewall Inn has paved a path for the modern-day LGBTQ+ community. Two of the most significant figures from back in the day are Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, two transgender women at the centre of the uprising.
So, the event is actually most well known and titled the Stonewall Riots— which suggests one isolated and exclusively violent event, but with the benefit of context and historical knowledge, we know that the conflicts between the New York Police Department and gay rights protestors went on for days after the inciting incident.
I believe that LBGTQ+ education should be compulsory in all education systems and available to all.
That is my aim with this series of my podcast— to give as much of an LGBTQ+ inclusive education as I can, as a student myself, and not just in relation to the history of the community.

Over the rest of the month, I will be re-releasing one episode each week on this podcast and will begin releasing new episodes in February's LGBTQ+ History Month.
In this episode, I will be looking at the history of the LGBTQ+ community and Pride Month in the United States. I have already covered the United Kingdom back in February, and now I will look at the US as these two countries are where the majority of my audience is located.
LGBT Pride Month occurs in the United States to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which occurred at the end of June in 1969. The many pride events held during this month aim at recognising the impact LGBT people have had in the world and are a showcase of the spirit of the community and demonstrate that Gay Rights are Human Rights.
I will be looking at the Stonewall Riots tomorrow, as June 28th is the day that the uprising began in 1969.

What attitudes do Christianity and Islam have towards the LGBTQ+ community?
Firstly, Christians make up 31.2% of the world’s population, making Christianity the largest religion in the world. The acceptance of homosexuality varies by the branches of Christianity.
Secondly, Muslims make up 24.1% of the world population. Generally speaking, Islam does not tolerate homosexuality, as the Qur'an argues that it is unnatural and against the will of Allah.
