Jay and I get to catch you all up on everything we have seen over the last few months before we get into the heavy themes of The Last Thing Mary Saw(available on Shudder) and my personal issues with queer rep in horror over the last few years. This movie had some serious trigger warnings so avoid this episode if discussions involving SA, Homophobia, or Religious Trauma will be distressing to you.
Almost a year ago Jay and I sat down to record this episode for my birthday, and I am so happy to be sharing it with you. We watched what was definitely the best movie of 2020, Uncle Peckerhead. On our way to gush about Mel's thighs we also chat about being the only people who liked The New Mutants movie, rock/punk rock as a motif in horror, seeing our first movie in theaters in over a year, and how we (still) haven't seen Promising Young Women.

As the title says It Comes At Night 2017 is all about vibes. Be that isolating vibes, covid prediction vibes, and just maybe homoerotic vibes. We watched Jay's first franchise pick, 1987's Hellraiser. We talk about all the filthy, luxurious, and unexpected types of wetness the Cenobites have to offer as well as the feeling of walking down the horror aisle as a kid, halloween haunted houses, and how surprisingly sexy Flash Gordon is.

We are trying something a bit new by covering a couple of franchises with LGBTQIA+ creators: Child's Play and Hellraiser. We will be going one for one every other week until we finish both series. We watched a lot of movies this week so tune in for a brief discussion about Willy's Wonderland (2021), Cooties (2014), His House (2020), Sightless (2020), and The Cleansing Hour (2019) as well as a full recap of 1988's Child's Play. Sorry about the delay on this episode folks. After weeks of waiting we watched Bone Tomahawk and Jay was not joking about the brutality. We chat about Westerns and Masculinity and provide you with a few great recommendations as always.
Instead of showing each other a new movie this week we gave Jay a special birthday pick. It was a close call between Silent Hill and Army of Darkness, but Army of Darkness just ended up being easier to find. Come for our thirst for Ash and stay for our musings over Kurt Russell's beautiful feathered hair in The Thing.
Do you like to listen? This movie screams 2000's and not in a good way. Regardless we have a great time chatting about the Saw series, Carver's creepy neighbor, the "beautiful corpse" trope, and 2001's Fear Dot Com. Sorry about that brief hiatus folks, we went on this guided tour through some ruins and where confronted with the actions that would lead to our eternal damnation, and that can be time consuming. What a coincidence that we would watch 1972's Tales From The Crypt. Dusting off this old VHS felt good and lead to a conversation about sex with simulated ghosts, spooky nonbinary honorifics, and disability representation in horror. Join us for that and more goofs on this episode of Spooky and Gay with Carver and Jay.
Ya know it is hard to host a horror show when the world is scarier than any film we could recommend, but 1983's Videodrome has a relevancy that is easy to see. We talk about that as well as the movies we have been watching, technology/ social media in horror, as well as our worst case scenario for future technology.
This week we talk about the video games we've played, the anime we've watched, our experiences with online dating, and of course Lo (2009).
With everything Gremlins 2 The New Batch gets wrong as least our protagonist is a better architect than Ted Mosby. This film felt like a fever dream and so was this recording, only time will tell if we made it out with our sanity. Join us next week sane of not for the audience suggestion of 2009's Lo.
This Is two Grinches attempt to get into the holiday spirit and then avoiding it all together. We talk Lovecraft, The New Mutants, and of course Better Watch Out (a horror movie about another kid we hate.) Remember to come back next time to hear us chat about Gremlins 2: The Bad Batch.
Carver and I take a step into Cube 2: Hypercube at my recommendation. Will we escape the deadly tesseract, or will we be trapped talking about Adam Sandler's crew until we are killed by a physical construct of a Windows98 screensaver?
Hands down the best movie of 2020 (not that there is much competition,) The Invisible Man. Jay and I are back at it with the comic book talk and those good good recommendations.
