Consciously Unbecoming: Recent Episodes

Jess

Hi there,It's about that time....time we all take stock of the BS beliefs we must un-become or un-learn. Ya know, the beliefs that society, our families, our ancestors, our governments, our cultures, our religions, our traumas, our life experiences have told us, hell, even force fed us to be. No one even bothered to ask our opinions on the matter, either. WTF? Join as award-winning Coach, Speaker, Healer, mama of 2, and self-proclaimed Scrabble genius, Jess Vogelpohl, along with Shamanic-Mentor, fierce mother of 3, Medicine Woman, and overall badass, Lauren Thew, as they dive into the topics we all want to know more about - spirituality, belief systems, mental health, parenthood, sexuality, psychology, trauma, Shamanism and about 74320430 other topics. There's sure to be a lot of tats, cuss words, spirituality, psychology, laughing, and real REALLLLLLLL talk. Like, really REAL. Ya dig? Hi dear ones,

This episode I am chatting radical acceptance and foresee this being a topic we will hang out with for a few episodes. Radical acceptance is the crucial step in healing and awakening. Plus, it is one of my favorite exercises to begin finding true peace in certain areas of my life.

Well hello there!

I'M BACKKKKKKKKK!

Standing on our own two feet can be pretty difficult when we do not trust ourselves or when we think the answers are outside of ourselves. So, that's what we are talking about on this episode. Oh and these things, too!

Getting real about:

  • Doing things alone
  • Trusting our decisions
  • Finding the answers within
  • Confidence and joy anchors
  • Asking for help

As always, THANK YOU for listening, I am beyond grateful that you are here!

With love,
Jess Kiely-Vogelpohl

Hi lovely listeners,

Spoiler alert - you're amazing, exactly as you are. Nothing needs to change about you in order to be worthy of love. Deserving of love. And, to feel as if you are enough. Because you are.

All too often, we are desperately attached to things outside of ourselves. Or people outside of ourselves. That we tie our worth and self-esteem to them or this one thing. We dig into why this is such a problem and how to remember your worth.

With love,

Jess and Lauren

Hi.

So, the head, the heart (not to be confused with the band), the brain, the soul. We treat all of these as such separate entities when they are all so interwoven.

On this episode we talk Soul Retrieval and how we can find those bits and pieces of ourselves we've lost throughout our life.

Thanks for listening!

Hi Difference Maker, sup?

Aiiiiight, if you are a parent, you are gonna like this one.  And, hey, if you aren't a parent, you will still really enjoy it because we talk A LOT about the tools we weren't given as kiddos that NOW translate into our adult lives as we try to parent our children and/or build relationships with others.

Ever heard of your inner child?
What about Inner Family Systems?
Ooh this is a good one, have you ever been super triggered by your child, lose your cool, and then felt shame after?

Then ya might wanna give this one a listen.

OHHHH HI!

There's a jazzy lil surprise in this episode!

Ever have those times in life where you feel restless for people, places, things, yet unsure of what you are specifically yearning for?

Could be because you are not living out your life's purpose. Your soul's mission. That thing that ignites you.

On this episode, we dig into how to find that purpose and what to do when you don't quite believe you can accomplish that goal! Or that it will ever actually happen...

With Love,
JV and LT

Hi there,

For me knowledge is always power. Ya know, "the more you know." Cue rainbow shooting star.

Knowledge solidifies really "out-there" concepts that we can't seem to wrap our brains around but want to. Show us the evidence. OR explain it in an understandable way and BOOM, suddenly, this knowledge can be integrated in our lives rather than just some info we have.

Knowledge helps us understand our mental health, especially when we are in the darkness.

So, this episode, is all about da brain and mental health hurdles we all face but are increasingly heavier the longer we are in the middle of the pandemic.  Because maybe if you understand a little more about how your brain works - then you won't beat yourself up when your anxiety has its grips in ya or when depression has rendered you a muted version of yourself.

Talk soon,
JV

Hi there,

Have you ever stopped to think of all your body has done for you as you curse it, loathe it, and wish it were different?

For years, I was always trying to be different! Thinner, stronger, prettier.

Insert a slew of other adjectives; words I thought I HAD to be. Words that I thought defined who I was or determined my worth!

I thought to myself that I would be happier when I became a certain size or weight...or so I thought!

But, in reality, I’d hit that goal and would feel no different.

I didn’t suddenly love the person staring back at me. All I could see was cellulite, thighs that were too big, pudge on my belly, non-toned arms, stretch marks, a size much different than my friends or what I saw in magazines.

Enter the guilt and shame of never feeling enough! Never quite loving myself for the exact skin I was in, during that moment, during that season.

It wasn’t until losing both parents and giving life to my children, did I realize exactly who I was and how powerful my body and my mind were.

It wasn’t until then did I realize the value of health over vanity.

So, let's unbecome the BS belief that we must look a certain way in order to feel worthy of love. Because, just by being born, exactly who are you - RIGHT NOW, scars and all, you are worthy of the greatest love known to the universe. It's time we believe that.

With so much freaking love,
JV

Whattttt upppp, welcome back to episode 5 of the Consciously Unbecoming Podcast where we are getting to core of our self.

Taking a look at all of the beliefs that have been thrust upon us and deciding, is this a belief about myself, about others, about the world, that I want or do I need to relearn this belief and see it through my own lens.

Most of our beliefs, we didn't choose:

  • They were just there.
  • Inherited from our families, our ancestors, our upbringing, the neighborhoods we grew up in, our religions, society, the states, the countries, we live in.
    • There are so many sets of social standards within each of those things that I just mentioned.
    • It’s uncomfortable to take our masks off that have forced us to conform to all of those societal standard.
    • For some of us, its’ so uncomfortable, we go our entire lives never truly leaning into our identities. Never truly embracing who we are. Never truly speaking out loud to the world and saying THIS IS WHO I AM.
    • What’s worst than stepping outside of those norms, and removing the mask, is staying hidden, keeping a piece of yourself hidden, denying who you are, to fit a BS standard.
    • We get to change our minds about the direction our lives are headed. We get to course correct. We get to step back and decide who we are in the season of life we are in. There’s no set path.

Texts from last night:

Today we are going to see where this conversation takes us but, Lisa, I wanted to touch on something we were texting about last night because I think it pertains to the ultimate theme of this episode which is addiction.

  • Energy shifts in the lunar cycle
  • Setting intentions
  • I am a big believer in energy. I believe the moon controls A LOT of energy. And, that when ppl mention they are setting their intentions for this full moon cycle, or the new moon cycle, it’s not some BS thing. It’s science, bebe.

Addiction:

  • Addiction to chaos
  • Addiction to numbing our feelings
  • Addiction to work
  • Addiction to the pursuit of something, someone, MPRE
  • Addiction to being better

We as a society have to DO instead of simply just being!ENJOY,
Jess and Lisa

  • We dig into the top 4 areas our inner critic shows up/comes from.
  • We chat about "shielding" and protecting our selves from external criticism.

Enjoy!

Hey ya beautiful badass!

Episode 3 is all about, well, a lot. HA! We discuss:

  1. Childhood beliefs and how they show up in our adult lives:
    Examples:

  2. Must hit revenue this quarter or I don't deserve love, even from my self

  3. Must hit goals or I don't deserve love
  4. Must have a perfect body or I don't deserve love
  5. Must BE a certain type of mom, wife, sister, daughter, husband, brother, dad and If I take my mask off, If I try to be something different - no love.

  6. The three things all kiddos want from caregivers - we wanted them too
....and when we don't get these three things, how it impacts us/them as adults.

  7. How trauma impacts our belief systems
Trigger Warning - we discuss sexual assault in this one at times.

Enjoy!

HEY THERE, ya fierce difference maker. We are glad you stopped by!

Welcome to episode 2 of Consciously Unbecoming!

We are going to begin digging into the masks we create from a very early age to help us show-up in the world. NO, NOT THE COVID MASKS....

These masks we most likely created in childhood to help us cope with life, to fit in, to get by, to live day to day, with little conflict and shame! BUT, these same masks, may not be useful to us as adults thus pushing us to make a change or stay stuck in ways that do not serve us.

Your Mask might come in the form of:

Sit still
Be quiet
Don't cry, suck it up
Bottle your emotions
Be independent
Don't let people help
Be strong
Do well in school
Get good grades
Hustle, hustle, hustle
Accomplish and achieve
Fit in
Follow a certain religion
Marry a certain gender
Follow a certain career path
Act in a certain way.
Feel in a certain way.
Behave in a certain way.
Believe in a certain way.
I have to look a certain way.
I have to follow a certain life path
Have kids and settle down

And, when we defect from this mask and take it off - are we okay with the consequences and expectations or do we want to continue living someone else's beliefs? We hope you enjoy!

PS: The sound is weird in the beginning so watch Lisa blurt out her name. And, me awkwardly laugh....#RealLife

Jess and Lisa

Well hello there - you magical beautiful badass! WELCOME to our first episode of the Consciously Unbecoming Podcast!

Where we talk about all the BS we learned at some point about WHAT we need to be, WHO we need to be, and we begin the process of unbecoming what no longer serves us.

Award-Winning Speaker, Coach, Mom, and Lover of Therapy / Spiritual Work, Jess Vogelpohl along with Lisa Petersen, a Holistic Licensed Counselor, Reiki Master, Energy Healer, and Mama - are the co-hosts of Consciously Unbecoming and leave no stone unturned as they dig into their own life experiences, psychology, neuroscience, and spirituality, to get real about the hard shit!

AND, hopefully help you unbecome in the areas that no longer serve you!

This podcast that gets real about all of the BS we must unbecome, to unlearn, that society, our families, our ancestors, our cultures, our traumas, our life experiences have told us, hell, even force fed us to be, so we can become whatever the hell it is we want to be, but by our own designs.

Because we want our lives to roll that way! Not because anyone told us we needed to be that way.

Most of us are on this path to BE something else, thinner, more fit, a better mom, a better significant other, a better leader, make more money, do more more MORE.

And, that is fucking exhausting.

Let's ask ourselves “when did I start believing that I needed to be anything other than who I am in this exact moment?”

And, "why did I begin believing that I wasn't enough? That I had to be something else."

We hope you enjoy!

With love,
Jess and Lisa
