As we begin Lent, we spoke with Beth Bubik about fasting. Jesus says to his disciples “when we fast” not “if.” Beth speaks on the spiritual and health aspects of fasting and how to incorporate it into our daily lives rather than just on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
Production note:
There was a technology issue and we lost about 10 seconds of recording. Beth had been talking about our metabolism and how things with food consumption have changed since the middle ages. Stacy recorded a short bridge between sections but everything else is intact. Thank you for your understanding.

In this episode, Annie, Lauren, and Stacy have a discussion about the struggles we see in holding ourself and others to perfectionism and combatting that with the peace of Christ.
John 6:70 “Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you twelve? Yet is not one of you a devil?’”
Eph 2:14-17 “For he is our peace, he who made both one and broke down the dividing wall of enmity, through his flesh, abolishing the law with its commandments and legal claims, that he might create in himself one new person in place of the two, thus establishing peace, and might reconcile both with God, in one body, through the cross, putting that enmity to death by it.”

In this episode Annie, Alisha, Lauren, and Stacy reflect over the last year. We talk about funny happenings, our favorite episodes, and thighs.
There is a discussion in part of this episode as to whether or not any of the apostles started a riot by not finishing their teachings when Jesus sent them out two by two. We did look it up and no there is no Biblical reference to the apostles starting a riot. There is a reference in Acts to Paul and his disciples starting a riot but as far as the apostles doing that, it was just what was depicted on The Chosen.

Topics include Women's Health and Marital Intimacy
In this episode, we talked with exercise physiologist Jenn Lormand about a topic that affects one out of every 5 women but still seems to be a faux pas discussion - pelvic floor prolapse - and how God made us for healing of body and soul. Jenn shares a bit of her personal journey through the faith and how her pelvic floor trauma affected her personally as well as information about her and co-founder physical therapist Christina Walsh’s program Tighten Your Tinkler (Silly Name, Serious Results). In this episode Stacy, Lauren, Annie, and Alisha talk with author, Alexandra Greeley about faith and food. We talk about eating being a moral act, stewardship, farming, traveling, the Eucharist, and Alexandra's conversion story.
Alexandra also writes for the National Catholic Register. Make sure to watch our Facebook Group or Instagram for when the article she wrote about Stacy comes out!
In the episode we reference Alexandra's new book, Catholics in the Kitchen. If this sounds like a book you may be interested in, you can find it here:
https://tanbooks.com/?rfsn=7123077.dfb511 From the back cover's About the Author:A convert to Catholicism, Alexandra Greeley, author of Cooking with the Saints, has spent her life working in the food world as a cookbook author, restaurant reviewer, and a trained cook. Becoming Catholic shaped her food passion, forging a pathway to God through her food-faith volunteer work at her former parish, Saint Veronica Catholic Church in Chantilly, Virginia. There she started cooking classes honoring the saints and began an organic garden to feed the hungry.
In this episode, Annie, Lauren, Stacy, and Alisha start off the episode intending to talk about New Years Resolutions. The conversation quickly turned toward preparing for Lent. Come join the conversation and tell us what your thoughts are.

We will continue our series on the virtues in two weeks but for Thanksgiving week we thought we would focus on thanksgiving. What better way to discuss thanksgiving than to discuss the Eucharist!
So in this episode Annie, Alisha, Lauren, and Stacy discuss why they are thankful for the Eucharist. Stacy even has an exciting and beautiful realization. It's wonderful seeing the Holy Spirit share truths with people when they are ready to hear them.
Happy Thanksgiving!
In this episode, Alisha, Lauren, Annie, and Stacy continue their discussion on the virtues by talking about humility, temperance, and generosity.
This episode is part of a three episode series that we will be doing over the virtues. Humility will be discussed and interwoven into each episode.
In this episode Lauren, Alisha, and Stacy discuss Humility, Patience, & Kindness. We talk about how we struggle with these virtues but also continue to strive to grow in them.
This is one of our longer episodes. In this episode Alisha, Lauren, and Stacy talk about Purgatory and what it means to live out our purgatory here on Earth.

In this episode Sr. Maria reminds us that every journey is different and that there is beauty in suffering, even when we can't see it. She has a beautiful message of hope and love.

This is a 2 part conversation where we talk with Sr. Maria of the Trinity. Sr. Maria is with Gospel of Life Disciples and Dwellings (aka GOLD) an organization that ministers to the aging and dying.
In this episode Sr. Maria shares with us her background, what GOLD does, and some other beautiful insights. She discusses the importance of simple moments and community.
The conversation will continue into the next episode where Sr. Maria shares that just as no two births are the same neither is any journey from this life to the next. You won't want to miss this part of the conversation. So join us in two weeks on August 31st for the next episode.

In this episode Annie, Alisha, and Stacy discuss persecution and how we as Catholics should respond to it.
We also discuss that there are various levels of persecution from bullying and harassment to murder and genocide.

In this episode Noelle returns to talk with about what she has been up to. For those who have been listening to Coffee & Catholics since we started, or if you have gone back and listened to older episodes, you will remember 5 of us hosting the show. Noelle has not been able to record with us over the last year but she never really left either. We thought you might be wondering what happened to her. We talk about everything from Noelle's ministry and role as a working Mom to Contemporary Christian Music to high speed car rides. Come listen to what Noelle has been up to.
Possible trigger warnings: In this episode Noelle also mentions or discusses topics such as self-harm, suicide, and miscarriage.
To honor Mary in May, we decided to create an episode that you can revisit when you are wanting some guided prayer time.
In this episode, Annie, Alisha, and Stacy pray The Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary and The Litany of Loreto. The reflections that we use in this episode are a mixture of reflections from the following two sites:
https://www.franciscanmedia.org/franciscan-spirit-blog/reflections-on-the-luminous-mysteries
https://media.ascensionpress.com/2018/11/14/quick-meditations-on-every-mystery-of-the-rosary/
The information that we share about the Litany of Loreto and the prayer itself can be found on this site:
https://www.ewtn.com/catholicism/devotions/litany-of-loreto-246
In this and the next episode, Alisha, Annie, Lauren, and Stacy discuss what it means to "create space". We explore space as a physical area, as time, as action, as openness, as relationship, and as reaction. This resulting two part episode was not the episode we were expecting when we started our discussion but it turned out so much better.

In this episode we discuss Lenten devotions, mortifications, and penances. We discuss the definitions of promise and sin. We also talk about the distinctions between good intentions and vows. Intentionality and purpose are eluded to as key factors in choosing our mortifications. Also, what to do if our penances are not building up our relationship with God.
In this episode Stacy and Annie interview Barbara and Adriana from Willow Pregnancy Support. They get an update on The Rose Home construction (refer back to episode #13 : Discussion with Dolores), hear about what services Willow provides for women, and hear stories about the history of the organization and the women who have come to them for help. And what would an episode about Moms and their babies be without Stacy's and Annie's youngest kiddos making themselves heard. As Adriana says in this episode, "We love kids!"

Due to weather and illness the co-hosts of Coffee & Catholics were not able to meet this month to record. Rather than missing an episode or asking listeners to wait four weeks for the next episode we decided to do something a little different.
In this episode, Stacy reflects on the talks given at the 2022 Oklahoma Catholic Women's Conference by three fantastic speakers; Leah Darrow, Sr. Marie Veritas, and Kimberly Hahn. She shares some of the quotes from the speakers, connects their talks to each other, and reflects on them as they relate to her current journey.

This is our final episode of this series on Catholic Social Justice Teaching.
In this episode Alisha, Annie, Lauren, and Stacy discuss Feminism through the lens of Rights and Responsibilities and Solidarity, both being themes of Catholic Social Justice Teaching. We discuss the roots of feminism and how the rhetoric has shifted since the 60s and 70s. We propose that we as Catholics should be working together to refocus the feminist conversation back from narrowed personal gains to that of a wider global sustainability. Helping other women be successful and setting the world ablaze with what women are.
"The world doesn't need what women have. The world needs what women are." - St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (St. Edith Stein)
**** Possible trigger topics that are discussed- abuse, briefly pornography and sex trafficking, abortion

In this episode Alisha, Lauren, and Stacy discuss what to do when we feel like there is a conflict with a family member or friend and we have exhausted all of our olive branches and still feel rejected. We thought this episode would compliment our episodes on Social Justice Teaching (we do have one more coming) and the beginning of the holiday season.
During the episode Stacy quotes numerous times from the book If You Knew My Family, You'd Understand : A Family Systems Primer by Jack Shitama.

Come Pray With Me is a podcast created and produced by Sarah, a college student at Washington College in Maryland. The university's Department of Religious Studies sponsors the podcast. On her podcast, Sarah explores various world religions in the hope to bring understanding and shared humanity.

We would like to remind listeners that this podcast is in a talk show format, in that the four of us simply gather around a dining room table and discuss topics that pertain to being Catholic and a woman. We share our stories in the hope that it helps others know that they are not alone. We do not claim to have any official authority when it comes to church teachings. We do our research and ask that all of our listeners do the same. We are on this journey with you and so glad to be. Thanks be to God! Please continue to pray for us, as we hold all of you in our prayers.
We continue our discussion of Catholic Social Justice Teaching this week while discussing homosexuality.
How do we as Catholics uphold church teachings on marriage and family and create a welcoming space for our family, friends, and community members who experience same-sex attraction?
In this episode, we examine this question through the lenses of two Catholic Social Justice Teaching Themes; The Life and Dignity of the Human Person and The Call to Family, Community, and Participation.

We decided at our last recording session to air the episode on doubt entering into our faith life in August.
This episode seemed perfect for right after Mother's Day and as a companion to our last episode, Episode #20 Mom Wars: Children at Church.
In this episode we discuss how we have to support each other as a community to thrive. From helping new moms to visiting the homebound, what can we do to help each other experience Christ in the world and through the members of the Church.
Please share what has worked in your parish. Share your story of when someone helped you.
I think here at Coffee and Catholics would expand the old saying of "It Takes a Village to raise a Child." to "It Takes a Village to help all of us get to Heaven." And it starts with prayer and silence with the Lord, so that we can be filled with His love and shine His light on others though our deeds.
We are missing Noelle for this episode. We are hoping to have all five of us back together soon.
In this episode we discuss the debate about having children in church.
Should children be in the pews with family? In the nursery?
What can we do to help families in church?
Not all children are created the same, should there be only one answer?
Come listen to our take on the situation and share you stories with us.
In this episode we share several stories about how the Eucharist has worked in and changed our lives. We also discuss the importance of listening to the Holy Spirit speak to us in Eucharistic Adoration and other times in our lives.
We would love to hear your stories about how the Eucharist and the Holy Spirit have worked in your life.
Episode #18: Holy Week Reflection was just published
In this episode Noelle, Annie, Alisha, and Stacy discuss Holy Week. We are missing Lauren but have Alisha's sweet baby cooing in the background. We hope you enjoy and always look forward to hearing your thoughts.
An Act of Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.
