The dark witch, Morag Black, is standing in Mel Square. Her hooked nose is only inches from the window of The Daily Grind. On the other side of the glass, Timothy Tittleworth has just noticed the psychopath who is standing in the Square having a staring contest with a pigeon. He gazes out through the window, lost in thought, not seeing the grotesque apparition only inches from his face. It’s as if she isn’t really there at all. She utters continuously in the syllables of a dead language, as she stares straight into Tittleworth’s unseeing eyes. The words coming out of her mouth are full of malice as she wills him to open his mind to her evil. To a concept. To a theory that will lead him to give birth to great evil in her name.

A huge thanks to Claire Brown (INSTAGRAM: @mouse_brown), my amazing illustrator, for bringing my unusual characters to life. In this episode: Percival opens one eye slowly. And then shuts it again as quickly as possible. The sunlight is blinding and it forces his eyelids shut against his will. His vision is filled with red glaring luminosity caused by the light through his eyelids. “Where the devil am I?” he groans. Something is different about the sound of his voice. It still retains its faux feminine quality but it just doesn’t sound like him. His body aches terribly too and feels very unusual. As if it has somehow been reconfigured. He brings up one of his paws, Percival is a Shih Tzu, to feel his face and is horrified at the unexpected lack of fur on his cheek. His first thought: he’s somehow been captured in the night and shaved by a disturbed human with unusual sexual appetites. Then, he manages to open one of his eyes and sees his pale, pink man-hand and his worst nightmares are realised. He’s somehow turned human!

Timothy Tittleworth is useless! A string of failed business attempts, disastrous relationships with the opposite sex and barely enough coin to cover the cost of his Americano. Yet, despite this pathetic situation, Tittleworth’s fortunes are about to take a turn for the better, and in the most unlikely of ways. It’s Tittleworth’s habit to sit here in this same coffee house, at the same table, at the same time, every single Wednesday afternoon. If nothing else, Tittleworth can be regarded as a man of regularity and clockwork. It’s this routine in fact that puts him right in the way of a most unlikely muse. A muse that will catapult Tittleworth to greatness and infamy. Access the episode here: https://cdroberts.me
