Due to Hurricane Fiona, we weren't able to have in-person service. Thankfully, Hannah Bartlett, our Next Generations Pastor recorded the sermon she was going to preach at Cornerstone Cornwall that Sunday. This week, she walks us through a passage where John writes about what it means to know we have genuine faith.
John writes to his readers "so they do not sin." In these two passages from his letter, John fleshes out the reality of sin, what our posture should be towards it, and how Jesus is our hope despite sin.

We kick off our summer of Church at the Waterfront with our new series Face to Face: Ordinary people and their encounters with Jesus. Our prayer is that in seeing Jesus, we might encounter Him in our lives, too. This week, we look at John 1:43-51, where a man named Nathanael becomes a disciple of Jesus.

This Father's Day we wrapped up our walk through 2 Thessalonians where Paul has some strong words to some individuals in the church of Thessalonica. The question is turned to us, who--or what--is our authority?

Paul wrote a second letter to the Christians in Thessalonica, Greece, who were freaking out about the end of the world. Some deceptive teachers were smearing Paul's name with teaching allegedly from him that the world is ending. Paul reminds the Thessalonians that the end hasn't come, and to stay strong in their faith in the mean-time; advice that is crucial for believers today around the hype of "end times."

This week we dive into Paul's second letter written the church in Thessalonica, Greece to encourage them in the midst of the persecution they're facing. We see that God, who sustains us in difficulty is able to give us hope in the midst of it.

The great Canadian philosophers Steven Page and Ed Robertson once speculated on how they would live if they had a million dollars. Though the song is comedic, it speaks to something deep in the human heart: If I only had more, I'd be happy. Jesus teaches very directly about money and wealth, it's grip on us, and how we can seek to overcome that grip as we follow Him.

We wrap up our Atonement series on Good Friday, looking at how Jesus' death on the cross removed the separation between God and humanity, shown explicitly in the barriers of the Temple coming down.
Jesus' crucifixion looked like a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Romans. Instead, Jesus' death was a victorious defeat of the powers of evil.
The Scriptures talk about Jesus dying for humanity, as a substitute. This biblical idea has been caricatured and distorted throughout the years by over-emphasizing God's wrath and anger. How do we understand Jesus' death as him dying in our place?
