If you ever known or met someone with a cancer diagnosis, you know that Cancer is one of those things that affects not only the individual with the diagnosis but the whole family. It is needless to say that it impacts how people go about their everyday lives. With that said, it should not be unheard of that occupational therapist is on the team to help someone with cancer given that we help people get back to their everyday lives. In this week's episode we bring on Vanessa Yanez, OTR/L. on to the show to discuss her role as an occupational therapist who works with people who have and have had a cancer diagnosis. This may not be the most popular topic, but it is one that definitely needs to be discussed since it is one of those topics many evade and avoid. If this is a topic of interest, then please come hear what our thoughts are on the topic and see what you can do to play a role in this space as an occupational therapist or even occupational therapy student. We hope you enjoy the show!

What influence do the factors exist in an occupational therapy workplace for addressing diversity? What role do societal, economic, and demographic factors play? Are these aspects constant or are there showing changes that need to be addressed?
In this week’s Pre OT Secrets, Jessica Lopez will interview Michelle De Jesus. Michelle has always been a dream of hers to start my own practice to best serve her kids in their natural environments. Through Neuplay Therapy, she has been able to utilize my passion for brain development, neurorehabilitation, and family-oriented occupational therapy services to help my clients achieve their goals and more importantly, - improve upon the family’s quality of life. With the experience of working in a nationally-recognized children’s hospital as well as providing early intervention services in the home, she has gathered tools, certifications, and experience that have allowed her to best serve children with a variety of diagnoses including cerebral palsy, autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorder, genetic syndromes, developmental delays, and more. More importantly, she truly believes in building trust and connection with my families as the best intervention is that which empowers families with education and tools to maximize a child’s potential.
