In this episode, we peel back the layers to reveal ‘The Person Behind the Profile’ with Daniel Willis (CEO of Claxon and founder of 103).
In our latest podcast episode, we dive deep into the remarkable journey of Daniel Willis, the dynamic chairman and CEO of Claxon and founder of 103. Daniel’s life story is a testament to the courage to start over, even when faced with the most daunting setbacks.
From the promising beginnings of a professional soccer career in New Zealand, Daniel’s path seemed set for greatness. Yet, just before signing a significant contract in Greece, a devastating injury changed everything, forcing him to rethink his future from scratch.
What followed was a whirlwind of experiences in the hospitality and nightlife industries, where Daniel quickly rose through the ranks, learning invaluable lessons about leadership and adaptability. But his entrepreneurial spirit truly shone when he launched his first major business—a clothing brand that reached international acclaim in just three years. However, inexperience and a failed deal in the U.S. brought it all crashing down.
With the fortitude to learn from both his previous rise and fall, Daniel transitioned into sales and finance, gaining the skills and experience that would later fuel his success with Claxon, a rapidly growing advertising agency. His resilience was tested once again when he had to step back into the CEO role after taking some time out, facing the challenge of rescuing his company from potential collapse.
Throughout our conversation, Daniel shared how his mother’s unwavering belief in him became a cornerstone of his resilience. Her encouragement helped him navigate the highs and lows, transforming setbacks into stepping stones for growth.
Daniel’s story is more than a narrative of business achievements; it’s an inspiring lesson in personal growth, perseverance, and the strength found in believing in oneself.
“Over 60% of all millionaires have been broke at least once throughout their life,” he says in the episode.
“It’s easy to be good when it’s easy; the true test is when it’s hard.”

Kyle Sandilands and Jackie “O” Henderson have been crowned Best On-Air Team (FM) at the 33rd annual Australian Commercial Radio Awards (the ACRAs), announced at the International Convention Centre in Sydney.
The KIIS 1065 breakfast stars have now won the award a record eight times and were also inducted into the Commercial Radio Hall of Fame for outstanding lifetime achievement and their contribution to radio, the community and charities over their career.
Melbourne’s Neil Mitchell, whose influential 3AW morning show continues to top the ratings after 35 years with the station, scooped the double with Best Talk Presenter and Best Current Affairs Presenter.
Russel Howcroft accepts for 3AW’s Ross and Russel win
3AW breakfast team Ross Stevenson and Russel Howcroft picked up the Best On-Air Team (AM) accolade. This is the second win for the pair but the first time they’ve been able to pick up the award in person following the return of the radio awards as a live event after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
The ACRAS were presented at an awards ceremony attended by 1,000 radio personalities and executives from around the country, hosted by WSFM stars Amanda Keller and Brendan Jones, with entertainment by Birds of Tokyo, First Nations singer-songwriter Mitch Tambo and hip hop artist ILLY.
Kyle & Jackie O are the only team to have won Best On-Air Team eight times – in 2006, 2007, 2011 and 2013 when they were with 2Day FM and in 2015, 2018, 2021 and 2022 with KIIS. Other radio teams duos Hamish & Andy and Jonesy & Amanda have won three times.
The Kyle & Jackie O Hour of Power also won Best Networked Program and Sandilands was awarded Best Entertainment Presenter.
Fitzy & Wippa; Ryan Fitzgerald & Michael Wipfli, NOVA Entertainment winner of the Best Syndicated Australian Program at the ACRAS 2022
Winners of other major awards included Fitzy & Wippa (Ryan Fitzgerald and Michael Wipfli) from Nova Entertainment who won Best Syndicated Australian Program.
The Ben & Liam breakfast show on Nova 91.9 in Adelaide won Best Community Service Project (Metro) for “Ben & Liam’s Trapped”, raising awareness for mental health.
