Walking into therapy for the first time can feel incredibly vulnerable. You might be wondering what to say, whether you'll cry, if your problems are "big enough," or what your therapist is really thinking.

The truth is... I've wondered those same things too. Before I became a counsellor, I was a client. In this personal episode, I share what I've learnt from sitting in both chairs..first as someone asking for help and now as someone privileged enough to walk alongside others on their healing journey.

If you've ever thought about going to therapy, have your first appointment coming up or simply want to understand what therapy is really like, I hope this conversation leaves you feeling a little less afraid and a lot less alone.

What if the reason you still don't feel "good enough" has nothing to do with positive thinking?

In this episode, I'm unpacking one of the biggest misconceptions about self worth. So many of us believe that if we just thought more positively, repeated enough affirmations or became more confident, we'd finally feel enough.

We'll explore:

  • Why affirmations often don't stick
  • How childhood experiences and conditioning shape the way you see yourself
  • The everyday habits that quietly erode your self worth
  • Why people pleasing, weak boundaries and self abandonment reinforce the "I'm not enough" story
  • Practical ways to start building genuine self worth one small action at a time

If you've ever questioned your value, struggled with confidence, constantly put others before yourself or felt like you're never quite enough, this episode is for you.

Remember... self worth isn't built in the mirror. It's built in the moments when nobody else is watching.

If this episode resonated with you, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Please follow the podcast, leave a review and share it with someone who needs to hear this conversation today.

Have you ever felt like you're not good enough, no matter how hard you try?
In the very first episode of The Barbara Thompson Podcast, I explore one of the most common core beliefs I see in my counselling practice: "I'm not enough." Together we'll unpack where this belief comes from, how it can show up in our relationships, anxiety, people pleasing, overthinking and self doubt and most importantly, what you can start doing today to challenge it.

If you've ever questioned your worth, compared yourself to others or felt like you have to constantly prove yourself this episode is for you.

In this episode I talk openly about anxiety. What it actually is, what it can feel like in the body and why it looks different for all of us.

For me anxiety showed up through grief, people pleasing, disconnection from myself and staying in an unhealthy relationship longer than I should have. I remember feeling dizzy, lightheaded, my heart racing and constantly on edge. It was horrible. Over time I realised my anxiety wasn’t against me it was trying to communicate with me.

This episode is not about “fixing” anxiety overnight. It’s about understanding it differently. Learning to listen to your body instead of fighting it. Understanding your nervous system. Recognising the signs your body may no longer feel emotionally safe, aligned or heard.

I also share:
– why anxiety happens
– the message that can sit underneath it
– how anxiety can show up physically, emotionally and mentally
– practical tools to help regulate your nervous system
– how therapy and self awareness changed my life

If you are someone who overthinks, feels constantly on edge, struggles to switch off or feels exhausted from carrying everything alone. This episode is for you.

So many of us think that if something is right it should feel easy. The right path will challenge you just as much as it inspires you. It will stretch you, confront you and sometimes even scare you not because it’s wrong, but because it’s growing you.

In this episode I talk about the difference between something that is hard because it’s aligned and something that is hard because it’s not right for you. We dive into the signs to look for, how your nervous system plays a role in what feels “safe” and why discomfort doesn’t always mean you’re going the wrong way.

If you’ve been questioning where you are in life this episode will help you come back to yourself and start trusting what actually feels true for you.

In this episode I break down something I see every single day in my clients and something I’ve personally lived through too. The constant overthinking, second guessing and feeling like you have to be liked to feel okay.

From a survival perspective being accepted used to mean safety. Being rejected meant danger. Even though we don’t live in those times anymore… your nervous system still responds like you do.

So now you find yourself:

  • overthinking everything you say
  • worrying how you’re perceived
  • shaping yourself to be accepted
  • feeling like you can’t fully be you

In this episode I take you through:

  • Why your brain works this way
  • How this pattern forms
  • How social media is making it worse
  • How to start taking your power back

I’ve also included a short bonus at the end of this episode with practical tools and a journaling exercise to help you begin changing this pattern.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re living your life based on what other people think… this episode is for you. If this resonates and you’re ready to go deeper, you can work with me through Self Care Studio online or in studio sessions available.

This episode is for anyone who is single right now… and questioning it.

Maybe you’re over it.
Maybe you’re craving connection.
Maybe you’re wondering why it hasn’t happened for you yet.

What if being single isn’t the problem? In this episode I talk about what this season is actually here to show you, your patterns, your standards and your relationship with yourself. It’s not just about who you’re attracting. It’s about how you’re showing up.

We get into:
– why you keep choosing the same type of person
– how your patterns can feel like chemistry
– the difference between loneliness and being alone
– and what it actually takes to be ready for a healthy relationship

Being single isn’t a waiting room… it’s where you either keep repeating or you finally change.

If you feel like you’re ready to go deeper with this… you can work with me through Self Care Studio. I offer both in person sessions and online sessions as well. Head over to Instagram @self_care_studio.

It’s Valentine’s Day.
Love is everywhere. But, beneath the surface so many people are carrying a quiet fear: the fear of being alone.

In this first episode for 2026, I explore the deep human need for connection and the difference between choosing love from wholeness versus choosing someone to avoid loneliness.

I talk about:

✨ why we are wired for connection
✨ why so many people settle in relationships
✨ the importance of spending time alone
✨ how attachment styles shape who we choose and how we love
✨ breaking patterns and choosing conscious relationships
✨ learning to feel safe within yourself

This episode is compassionate, honest and grounding whether you are single, partnered, healing or questioning your relationship patterns.

We open with a beautiful grounding exercise led by Ruby inviting you to settle into your body before we explore the deeper conversation beneath the conversation.

Together we dive into:

🌿 Ruby’s Awakening

Ruby shares who she is, what pulled her into the world of energy, embodiment and ritual and the pivotal turning point that woke her up. She opens up about her own comfort zone breakthroughs and the moments that changed her life.

🔥 Pushing Past Your Comfort Zone

What does stepping out of your comfort zone actually feel like energetically?
Ruby and I explore the difference between discomfort and danger, fear as an invitation, the nervous system’s role, and how transformation happens through brave micro movements, not giant leaps.

🌙 Trust, Faith & Surrender

We talk control vs. flow, trusting timing and how surrender is a softening, not giving up. Ruby shares how energy responds when you finally let go and allow life to meet you.

✨ Living Life as Ritual

Ruby offers simple, powerful rituals you can weave into everyday life. These practices help you reconnect to yourself, your intuition and the magic in the mundane. This episode is an invitation to slow down, open up and step into the version of you that’s been waiting.

I honestly think this is one of the best episodes I have recorded. It came straight from my heart and life experience. In this episode I talk about one of the most powerful shifts in life, the moment you finally start listening to yourself instead of everyone else.

I share a personal story from when I was just 10 years old and how I got lost in Melbourne CBD for a few hours. This was a moment when I had to listen to myself but it also changed me in ways where I also stopped listening to myself.

Through gentle reflections and practical steps I invite you to reconnect with your intuition, honour your emotions and learn to recognise what your body and heart are trying to tell you. I talk about three ways where you can start if you would like to know how to start listening to yourself.

GREEN FLAGS & RED FLAGS what they look like in yourself and in someone you are dating.

When you’re full within yourself you attract someone who meets you there. When you come from fullness you won’t settle for crumbs.

In this episode I dive deep into something almost all of us wrestle with, the craving for validation. From childhood praise to social media likes, we’ve been conditioned to measure our worth through other people’s approval. But when does that desire cross the line into people pleasing, self abandonment and exhaustion?

I share stories from my own life, the hidden costs of chasing approval and why rejection feels so painful even as adults. Together, we explore the cycle of people pleasing, how it disconnects us from our true selves and how to shift the pattern.

✨ Why external validation feels so addictive
✨ The emotional toll of people pleasing
✨ How to start giving yourself the approval you crave
✨ Simple practices to anchor your worth from within

If your body, mind or soul has hit its limit this conversation could be the turning point you’ve been waiting for.

Claire Chancellor works faster and deeper than anyone I’ve ever met in the burnout and transformation space. She’s part coach, part intuitive and completely results driven blending mediumship, NLP and nervous system work into a process that can create profound change in weeks, not years.

In this episode, Claire shares her journey from discovering her intuitive gifts at 12 years old, to combining powerful modalities that help people reignite their purpose when they’ve lost their way. We talk about the real signs of burnout, the most overlooked steps to recovery, and how to know if your soul is truly “off purpose.”

I’ve personally experienced Claire’s work and I can say it’s nothing short of transformative. This is also my final guest episode before I launch my new podcast later this month and I couldn’t think of a better person to close this chapter with.

If you’re ready to stop just surviving and start truly living, this episode is for you.

With Barbara Thompson & Claire Chancellor
A transformative 4 x part series to explore the deep connection between your body, your emotions, your beliefs and your healing.

Ep 145: Stored emotions: What you don’t face lives in the body

What happens when we keep pushing our feelings down, pretending we’re “fine,” and distracting ourselves with being busy, scrolling or people pleasing?

In this powerful episode Claire and I unpack the real cost of emotional suppression and why so many of us learned to avoid what we feel often because of childhood wounds, trauma or fear of being “too much.”

We explore:
🌀 Why we suppress emotions and how it starts
🌀 Where key emotions live in the body: anger, grief, fear, resentment, shame
🌀 The silent damage of emotional bypassing and “good vibes only” culture
🌀 How avoidance becomes an autopilot response that blocks healing
🌀 Why feeling things as they arise is key to emotional freedom
🌀 Claire’s insights on energetic stagnation and the health consequences of unprocessed emotion

This episode is an invitation to turn toward your emotions gently, safely and with intention. Emotional honesty IS medicine.

We dive into what it’s like to sit on both sides of the couch, bust some common myths about therapy and reflect on the role of vulnerability, humour and storytelling in healing.

Whether you’re a therapist, a client, or simply someone navigating life’s curveballs, this episode is a reminder that growth doesn’t always look pretty but it’s always worth it.

In this episode we are diving deep into a topic that so many of us can relate to: breaking free from unavailable people, letting go of people pleasing, and embracing the joy of saying no.

And who better to explore this with than the incredible Natalie Lue. If you’ve ever found yourself stuck in toxic relationship patterns, bending over backward to please others, or struggling to set boundaries, this episode is for you. Natalie is the author of Mr. Unavailable and the Fallback Girl, a book that completely changed the way I see relationships and emotional availability. It was actually one of the first books that got me investigating why we’re drawn to emotionally unavailable people and why we stay, even when we know it’s not serving us.

In this episode, we unpack why we get caught in these cycles, how to recognise when someone is emotionally unavailable, and most importantly, how to break free.

So, if you’ve ever felt like you’re always the one giving, waiting, or hoping for change, this is your sign to step into your power.

This episode is about understanding that, for men, vocalizing emotions can be daunting. They are conditioned to be strong and silent. Ever wonder why men often bottle up their feelings? Society tells them that vulnerability is weakness. But what if we could flip that narrative and show that true strength lies in acknowledging and addressing your inner battles?

If you're finding this episode resonates with you or someone you love, don't hesitate to take action. Listen to this episode and share it with the men in your life.

In this episode I have a chat with Simon Rinne, the Founder and Clinical Lead at Mindful Men. Simon thrives on supporting boys and men to embrace a healthier way of living. His lived experience includes over 30 years living with depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and burnout; including relying on alcohol to cope with life’s stressors. He’s been sober since 2023, and blends his lived and learned experience in his approach to therapy.

In 2021, he founded Mindful Men as a way to support men with their own personal development journey. By sharing his story, he contributes to normalising discussions about men’s health and wellbeing. Simon's mission is to draw from his lived and learned experiences to empower boys and men to get vulnerable, confront their inner struggles, and grow with the right support.

A Certified Tarot Master, psychic medium, teacher and ordained minister, Corbie Mitleid has been reading for 50 years, and is a full-time intuitive counselor with clients worldwide. Robert Schwartz features her work as a channel and past life expert in his breakthrough series on Karma and pre-birth planning, Your Soul’s Plan, Your Soul’s Gift, and *Your Soul’s Love.

In this episode we talk about family, mediumship, stress, life, love and ALL the things!*

As an author, her self-help volume CLEAN OUT YOUR LIFECLOSET encourages you to write your own story of change based on your history, your life experiences, and your personal goals.

Corbie Mitleid has always been “the different one.” A writer and visionary in a
completely medical family (father a doctor, mother a nurse, brother a doctor), she has
always made her own path rather than take one cut for her by others. Leaving an Ivy
League university after two years, Corbie struck out to find where joy and purpose lived, regardless of what she was told she “ought” to do.

The path wasn’t easy. Two marriages, which didn’t last, and a constant search for the
Partner Who Understood. A succession of jobs. A series of spiritual paths. Moving from
Cambridge to Philadelphia to Poughkeepsie to New York City to Atlanta. Out of the
blue, breast cancer—not once, but three times. Life became a roller coaster with no
brakes, asking Corbie to survive divorce, abuse, poverty and life-threatening illness. But
through all of this, she learned the value of the Examined Life: meeting challenges and
always asking the next question, facing each new situation with strength, courage and
humor.

Today, Corbie brings a full toolbox to her job as a beacon of manifestation and vision for
her clients. She knows what it is to create a career out of experiences. While she’s now
a full-time intuitive counselor and inspirational speaker, her career has encompassed
positions as a published author, a professional actress, a television producer, a radio
personality, an executive recruiter and the “power behind the throne” for a number of
high-profile CEOs.

Corbie’s career now spans the globe, with clients worldwide. Her talents as an intuitive
are featured in bestselling books. Still, her clients treasure her attitude of I’m not special, you can do what I do.

“We have opportunities we can go after, and challenges to get past,” she says firmly.
“My job is to give you the tools and courage to deal with both situations. Everything else
is free will, and up to you!” Corbie lives in upstate New York with her husband Carle, a professional historian, two large and exuberant Maine Coon cats and a ginger pocket rocket of a rescue boy from the Bronx.

The author of the energy healing book Michelle mentioned in the episode was Michael Gerber - It was supposed to be Richard Gerber and his book Vibrational Medicine is what she was referring to.

The Nobel prize winner was in Physiology or Medicine 1937 was Albert Szent-Györgyi. And this is the quote Michelle was trying to express -- "In every culture and in every medical tradition before ours, healing was accomplished by moving energy"

Welcome to the first episode in my holistic health series. I will be bringing you episodes about nutrition and holistic health leading up to my 6 week online holistic health masterclass from 'Imbalance to Harmony'.

I ’m so excited that we’re able to discover the power of nutrition and natural medicine together. In order to understand the power of nutrition, we have to understand the role it currently plays in our lives, the modern food landscape we currently occupy, and its effect on our health. Bio-individuality is probably one of the most important nutrition concepts that there is. Because when it is implemented, it will help you change and improve your health and your life consistently. It stands the test of time because it’s a nutritional approach that is specific to your body, to your individuality.

TW this episode talks about sexual abuse in childhood

We head over to Idaho to have a chat with Hara Allison as she shares. with us her personal story. She is committed to spreading positivity and hope, improving lives through raw and compassionate storytelling.

Hara has seen her share of struggles. Her parents divorced when she was one. In a household with a single mum with six kids, her mum struggled financially as the kids struggled emotionally. Hara's childhood was a chaotic mix of drugs, police interactions, powdered milk and reduced cost school lunches. At seven, she was sexually abused. Nothing was said or done when she told her mum, this then defined Hara's worth. She carried so much shame. With a child's perspective, she believed it was her fault. It took 45 years for Hara to be convinced it was a trauma worthy of discussion.

When Hara was 18yo her mum passed away from cancer at 46yo. For six brutal months she watched her slowly deteriorate and then she was thrusted into adulthood. Hara then lost her dad twice: once to the fog of Alzheimer’s and later when his body succumbed to the disease. She also lost a brother to a drug overdose and another to cancer. When her daughters were only two and six, she found herself a divorced, single mum barely making it on one salary. She filed for bankruptcy twice and almost lost her home to foreclosure. Through all of this, she battled with her weight and self worth.

After years of work Hara found her way to love. Instead of pointlessly wishing she was smarter, smaller, she honour's her strengths, acknowledges her weaknesses and appreciates what she has.

"I am more than my struggles. I am more than what I look like. I’m proof that there is always hope and to find beauty you just have to seek it".

Today we head over to the UK and chat with Caroline Dunne - An Internal Family Systems Practitioner.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is a therapeutic approach developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz in the 1980s. It is a form of psychotherapy that integrates systemic, psychodynamic, and experiential components to help individuals understand and navigate their internal emotional systems. The central concept of IFS is the idea that individuals have multiple "parts" within themselves, each with its own unique thoughts, feelings, and roles.

In the Internal Family Systems model, these parts are categorised into three main types:

  1. Managers: These parts take charge and try to keep the individual safe by controlling emotions and situations. They often manifest as perfectionism, rigidity, or self-criticism.
  2. Exiles: These are the younger, vulnerable parts that carry emotional pain and traumatic memories. Exiles may be pushed away or suppressed to protect the individual from experiencing overwhelming emotions.
  3. Firefighters: These parts emerge in response to the emotional distress caused by the exiles. They seek to distract or numb the person through impulsive behaviors, addictions, or other coping mechanisms.

The goal of IFS therapy is to help individuals develop a compassionate and curious relationship with their internal parts. By understanding and acknowledging these parts, individuals can work towards creating harmony and balance within themselves. The therapist guides clients through a process of self-discovery, facilitating communication between different parts and promoting healing and integration.

IFS is often used to address a variety of mental health concerns, including trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. The approach has gained popularity for its emphasis on fostering self-compassion and internal cooperation.

We also do a bit of a demo using me as a guinea pig so you can hear what IFS is all about.

She was inspired to help all breast cancer patients including her friend Vanessa, so she invented the Boob Clip which is a bra strap converter clip in the shape of the word BOOB with the first B reversed creating two hooks. Your bra clip accessory converts normal bra straps to racerback straps and it gives back to support women going through breast cancer.

In this episode we also chat about:
- Boobs, the health of boobs and boob checks
- Her partnership with the McGrath Foundation
- How Michelle juggles being a mum of 3 and a business owner
- Feel for your life app
- The awards she has won:

  • Gold Coast Girls in Business - Innovation Award Finalist 2023
  • MUSE Design Awards – Fashion Accessory Silver Winner 2022
  • AusMumpreneur - Product Innovation Award Finalist 2022
  • Women In Fashion Long Lunch & Awards – Innovation Award Winner 2023
  • Innovation Award at the Women In Fashion Annual Long Lunch and Awards 2023 in Brisbane
  • Michelle has also been nominated for The Heart of Women Awards on the 9 March 2024.

Michelle has trademarked her Boobclip design and it is registered in 4 countries so far. Australia, New Zealand, UK and USA. This year she plans to start selling the Boobclips in and contributing to all four countries through foundation partnerships.

She would love to work with the Dr Susan Love Foundation in USA and is researching the UK and New Zealand foundations for a partnership.

We head to Minnesota for a chat with Val Kleinhans.
Val is a broadcaster and a podcast superstar. She currently has 4 podcasts:

@veryvogueval (fashion, pop culture & social media)
@onemorelightval (mental health)
@alloctavesval (musicians & music fans)
@chillingchatterval (paranormal & anything horror)

This episode mentions suicide*
Lifeline Ph 13 11 14
- if you or someone you know is experiencing emotional distress please call Lifeline. It is a 24 hour crisis support and suicide prevention service.*

Val shares her story with us and how she always wanted to work in radio and her dream came true becoming an on air radio host in Illinois. She started to see the politics of the industry, there was less creative freedom. Val was told what to do, what to say and how long to say it for. One day Val started to slur her words while she was on air because she became so nervous and anxious with what she was saying, she was so hyper focused on especially saying the radio stations name.

Val then moved to a rock radio on air job in Minnesota - but quickly noticed the same problems were still there. The constant criticism for even the smallest thing, unspoken rules, air checks. There was no encouragement. It became too much. Her self confidence and self esteem took a dive. Val had a breakdown, and shortly after this an anxiety attack and ended up in the ER. We also talk about if you are stuck in a job or in a rut, how to get out of it.

If you would like to connect with Val you can find her on Instagram:

For this episode we head over to Florida to have a chat with Laura. Laura's personal journey, marked by surviving domestic violence and enduring challenging relationships, sparked an unyielding curiosity to uncover the secrets of thriving relationships.

Laura has gone on to help hundreds of high-performing women around the globe to transform their relationships with themselves which revolutionized their relationships with others. With her unique mentoring style and authentic approach, she has become a sought-after mentor and teacher in her field.

By liberating yourself from the relational narratives of your past, you open the doors to a whole new level of attraction and fulfilment. Modern dating can feel like a headache to many of us with the lack of vulnerability and commitment, mixed signals, ghosting, overwhelm of choice paralysis, unrealistic expectations, lack of clarity and intentionality, and all the other ones that are making you get pre-mature wrinkles...

The truth is, we're not taught this and we're the first generation that's had to navigate this new wave of relationships with dating apps, rise of women in leadership, and men struggling to rise into their masculine... It's complicated, to say the least.

We would love to hear from you. Please comment below and let us know what your takeaway is from this episode.

Today I had a chat with Lena Moxon. You may remember her from Episode#3. Join us as we talk about what Lena has been up to since we last caught up. If self care is your thing, then you need to know about beautiful Lena. She is a Somatic Activated Healer, Soul Purpose (Dharma) & Spiritual Life coach.

In this conversation we talk all about the Sah Method. The Sah Method spiritual dance workout is a radically embodied spiritual practice combining ecstatic movement, mantra, breathwork and meditation.
Lena Moxon has studied under Sah D’Simone and was one of the first 100 beings to be certified as a Somatic Activated Healer. With over 15 years experience as a coach & mentor, her devotion to Somatic Activated Healing as a spiritual practice and a revolutionary wellness practice infused with her embodiment as a spiritual life coach with certification from the Dharma Coaching Institute makes her a powerful support to the women that call her into their worlds.

The Somatic Activated Healing (SAH) MethodTM, created by Sah D’Simone, is a revolutionary wellness practice combining the healing modalities of somatic movement, rhythmic breath, positive affirmations, and dynamic meditation. Trauma is a fact of life, and healing from it is our responsibility. But, trauma isn’t about what happened to you. It’s about the feelings lingering within you as a result of your traumas, no matter how large or small.

Big feelings, when left unprocessed in the body, lead to big stories in the mind. This cycle keeps us attached to past experiences, unable to release and recover, and inhibits our ability to be present and create a meaningful life. It keeps us stuck in suffering.

Want to give the SAH Method a try?

An episode we all need to listen to for women's health & pelvic floor health.

Kayla Morosin is the founder of Evolving Bellies and is a mum to Leo and Lily. Kayla has 10 years in private practice as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist. Evolving Bellies is now offering physiotherapy based prenatal and post pregnancy care packages in the comfort of your own home (online or face to face) in the Illawarra, NSW.

We chat about:
- After having a baby, everyone focuses on the newborn. Kayla's goal is to hold the mother, rather than the baby
- We open up the conversation about how our body changes during and after pregnancy
- Women are expected to just ‘bounce back’ after having a baby but no one really shows them how to fix their body physically and mentally in order to effectively do that
- Eliminating the stigma around bladder leakage during pregnancy and after having a baby
- Sex after childbirth and we want women to know that it SHOULDN'T be painful and there are ways to fix that
- Signs of a tight pelvic floor
- How to assess your own pelvic floor at home and how to know if you’re doing a contraction properly
- Join us near the end of the episode as Kayla and I do a pelvic floor strength exercise together (54 mins)

What an episode! If you head back to Episode #43, this is when Ash first joined us on this poddy. This episode (#43) is the second most downloaded episode to date, so I just had to have her back on for another chat. Ash and I continue our conversation about Kinesiology. We recorded our first episode together on the 11th of the 11th (11 November) and today's date is 8/8. We are both Leos and every time we connect it is powerful. These dates were not planned at all, it just happened.

Today's chat was pure, honest and vulnerable. I forget half the time this is a podcast and it felt like I was chatting to a friend. What I shared is deeply personal and vulnerable to me and as soon as things were coming out of my mouth I thought 'ohhh people may listen to this' haha.....I share a big revelation about my life decisions and where I am at today and share something really private and vulnerable for me.

Ash and I also chat about:
- What is Kinesiology
- The subconscious mind
- Comparison and how that contributes to the "I'm not enough" story we tell ourselves
- We talk about purpose
- How exciting is it to learn more about yourself
- No choice is ever wrong
- Ash shares with us an insight to her recent trip to Bali

I am so grateful Beth joined me for a third podcast episode we recorded together about pet loss grief. In this episode we talk about euthanasia, anticipatory grief and spirituality.

Euthanasia = The root word of this means a good death. We talk about this in detail. When is the 'right' time. It is such a personal decision for you and your beloved pet. What is your personal risk tolerance for catastrophy? If your animal died naturally in their sleep tonight do you think it would be too soon? Quality of life scales.

Ambiguous grief & Anticipatory grief = Impacts us in so many ways. We talk about all of the emotions, thoughts, fear, self blame, judgements, changes and decisions that relate to this type of grief.

Spirituality - We talk briefly about my experience and my spiritual connection with my animals. We talk about the rainbow bridge. What is it and where did it come from.

We love our animals so much. When we lose them or face that possibility, it can be one of the hardest things we’ve ever gone through.

Beth Bigler was a writer and producer in Hollywood and was very happy in her career and in the middle of this her 11yo soul mate cat Arnie got a very bad prognosis - cancer. The anticipated and eventual loss of her Arnie, led her to seek out her own pet loss grief support, which profoundly aided her healing. It was lifesaving and transformative. In the middle of that process, Beth had the opportunity to help a stranger at the vet’s office who was faced with an unexpected euthanasia decision. She realised that she wanted to help others integrate loss into their lives and empower them on their grief journey. In this episode Beth shares her story as to why she left Hollywood and is now a double-certified Pet Loss Grief Counsellor, certified Pet Chaplain, and a certified end-of-life animal companion doula. Beth helps people from all around the world with grief counseling support before, during, or after the loss of their beloved animal companion.

Creating a library with Beth about Pet loss is in Mazey's memory. We have created a library of episodes to be right here waiting for you if you need to hear them if you are experiencing pet loss grief or in the future this is something you may experience. We both want to normalise pet loss grief. Please share this episode with anyone who you think may need this.

This is the second full episode I have recorded with Beth. If you have not listened to the first episode I recorded with Beth earlier this year, please go and check out episode 58 (part 1) and episode 59 (part 2).

As always Beth shares with me some helpful tools.

In this episode we chat about:
-Our firsts when we loose our pet/s. The first vet visit, car trip, park visit, beach walk
-What we can do to prepare for our firsts and how we can honour our pets
- I share a number of personal stories and experiences about my own pet loss. For some of us why can pet loss hurt more than human loss
- What we can say when a loved one experiences pet loss
- What our animals are here to teach us
- The animals that get left behind. How can we best support them

We love our animals so much. When we lose them or face that possibility, it can be one of the hardest things we’ve ever gone through.

Celine Kheir is the founder of Celine Kheir Life Coaching, the author of How to Calm Your Mind, Declutter Your Home Declutter Your Life and an advocate of female empowerment through self care.

Some years ago, Celine was trapped in a cycle of overthinking, procrastination, and anxiety. As an overthinker, she was obsessed with planning every detail of her life. Procrastination prevented her from carrying out her plans and when plans failed, anxiety and depression took over. The sheer weight of her anxiety caused her heart to pound and weigh so heavily on her chest that she found it hard to breathe.

Celine explored various tools and techniques to start calming her mind and taking back control of her life by connecting to the Mind, Body and Soul.

By taking what she has learned from her personal life and combining it with her professional training and qualifications, Celine wants other women to gain the same empowerment as they discover the root causes of their chaotic minds, reveal their inner strengths, find inner peace, and lead a fulfilling life.

TW this episode talks about suicide and self harm (From 17 mins)

I would love to introduce you to one of my besties Melissa Espinasse. Not only is she a friend of mine she is also a mum of 3, an International Medium and Spiritual Mentor helping people to bridge the gap with life beyond this earth.

We talk about the hard times and deep pain we have experienced in our lives. When we think we can't get back up anymore. Melissa shares her raw, honest story of how she moved through a time in her life when she did not want to continue and how she moved through the deep pain.

We talk about coming home to who you are by devoting time to yourself. When we get to a breaking point when there is no way out and there is nothing left and where can you go to from there. You then get to create something better.

Coming back to self is unlearning everything you think you are. Most people think they know who they are, but it all comes down to who do you know yourself to be. Who are you? Start devoting time to yourself and ask yourself who am I?

We discuss how important gratitude is when life brings us challenges and how it's on the same frequency as unconditional love, being powerful, joy and bliss.

Listen to your intuition. We talk about this and what it looks like, what it feels like and what does the feeling of butterflies mean when you make a new connection with someone AND to always stay curious!

We love our animals so much. When we lose them or face that possibility, it can be one of the hardest things we’ve ever gone through.

Join us as we have our first conversation together about pet grief.
It was not my intention to share my own personal story of my experience of loss and having to say goodbye to each of my three animals Chester, Floss and Mazey but I did so in this episode and we went there. I talk about how I felt after each loss and how I said goodbye, and how I felt after each of my animals' passing was so very different.

Some of the other things we chat about:
- What other people say to you, when they think they are helping and give you their opinion and what they used to say to me about my pets
- Every animal loss looks and feels different
- The guilt we experience . Did I do it too soon, was it too late in saying goodbye, could I have done more?

Tina Hamilton | Inner Child Healing Coach
Tina started The Burnt Bean as a quest to help other parents like her: parents who love their children deeply, but continue to find themselves frustrated, irked, even triggered by those same children. Parents who know they can do better, but just can’t seem to figure it out.

As a parenting coach, her goal is to help you discover your childhood messages and how they are showing up in your parenting. Tina has been where you are. She has walked the path of healing from her own trauma and childhood messaging. Tina guides caregivers along their own unique healing journey so that they may parent from a place of peace and validation, instead of from negative behaviour patterns and habits that exist as a result of their own childhood.

Come and hang out with Tina & I as we chat about Inner Child Healing.

  • What is the inner child? How does it develop?
  • What are some signs that the inner child needs healing?

IT'S OUR 50TH EPISODE!!

To celebrate I  asked Jackson - A holistic health and fitness professional from Bondi to be my guest. Not only is he the king of one liners when it comes to health, he also has a tonne of knowledge when it comes to biohacking. Proof is in the pudding so they say and Jackson lives this lifestyle each and every day. I wanted you to have access to this information so you have the knowledge to decide for yourself what is best for you when it comes to your health.  There are still alot of people out there who just don't want to talk about this kind of stuff, for whatever reason.

We talk about biohacking, what is it and how it works. We then talk about a controversial topic - tap water. How something you drink everyday can not be the best for your health and how the bottled water you purchase can be worse.

We also touch on meat and eggs and what to look out for when you are buying these items. This is an episode you will not want to miss. Trust me!

Pilates at the moment seems to be a very popular option women are choosing as a way to move their body. You may have a few classes under your belt or you may be like me and have never tried it before. If you would like to know more about pilates, then this episode is for you.

I chat with Ashley, a lover of all things pilates. She has had this love affair with pilates for over 16 years. She is the proud owner of Pash Movement, a pilates studio in Fairy Meadow, NSW. Ash also teaches at her studio. She has overcome limiting beliefs, anxiety, not feeling good enough to teach and stand in front of a class.

I loved hearing about Ashleys journey and what has brought her to where she is today. From working for a King on his private yacht for a royal family in Europe then coming back to Australia working very long hours and selling vegetables at a farmers market getting up at 3.30am.

Ashley found herself at her first teacher training deep in the jungle in the beautiful Costa Rica undertaking a Balanced Body mat course. This course was taught by a Pilates guru Paige Siefferet.

We also chat about:

  • Pilates meets you and your body with where you are at
  • Breath work, correct movement and why pelvic floor health is important
  • Mind + Body connection - how to move your body correctly
    - What is pilates, reformer pilates, tower pilates, mat pilates
  • Fear and growth

TW - Eating disorders and suicide are talked about in this episode

In this episode we head over across the ditch and I chat with Nicole from Governors Bay New Zealand - The founder and owner of Lulah Collective.

Lulah Co. is the creative expression of Nicoles dreams and values. It’s a manifestation of her devotion to supporting other women who have walked the same path she has, the journey towards true self-love and body positivity. She wanted to create an activewear brand that created a space for women to love their fuller figures through joyful movement and forged some fiery change in the plus-size fashion industry!

Why? It’s her dream to empower women to come to a space of love within and for their bodies. Nicole struggled with this for years, and still can be wobbly some days. When she was in a bigger body she was teaching yoga , but wasn't able to easily find a brand that catered to her curves....let alone nourished her soul. At this time all she saw was women who looked nothing like her "shredding" it at the gym in an attempt to prep their summer bodies. She thought that it would make her happy to look like them. She lost 50kg and life was easier. People treated her differently, the world was kinder... but the joy of this was fleeting as she still felt insecure and unhappy in her body. In the last year her body shape has changed again, becoming softer and more curvy. Nicole felt panicked and confused what body shape and size would ever make her feel happy and safe? This part of her story is what has brought her to the body acceptance and positivity movements- of learning to love her body through thick and thin. Of choosing moving her body to feel good, not to conform to beauty standard and fitspo bullshit. She see that the majority of activewear brands, though becoming increasingly size-inclusive, still advocate that movement is a means to change your size or shape. The movement towards a more body positive activewear industry is happening slowly, but why not speed things up?

Nicole wants to see body diversity represented by more activewear brands. She wants to see size-inclusive brands that go beyond a size 26 and most of all, she wants to see a strong body-positive message.

Lulah Collective is your size-inclusive and totally body-positive active-wear brand designed by curvy babes, for curvy babes. They empower gals to move their bodies from a place of joy and love, and to feel great doing it! They wanted to see an activewear brand that represented our bodies! Bodies with glorious curves. To see a brand that served gals with bounteous hips, thighs and bums. Babes who deserved to be celebrated and supported to move without limitation. And so here is Lulah Collective, created with heart, sass and soul, just for you! They are building a diverse community who embrace their curves- we hope that Lulah Co. will inspire you to love and nurture yourself through movement.

Check out Lulah Collectives podcast, The Body Posi Club for chats with real women and industry professionals on a range of inspiring topics through a body positive lens.

Nicole is also a therapist and will be opening her private practice in 2023.

Trina O'Duffy is living in Madrid. She is a holistic wellness coach & yoga teacher who has a business called My Collective Compass - Trina is passionate about gut health and wellness - inspiring others to get to know themselves and what they need.

"I have been passionate about wellness from a very young age. My mum introduced me to holistic wellness therapies such as reflexology and healing massage as a child because growing up I suffered from severe allergy problems, asthma and digestive problems.

I was interested to learn more about my body and how holistic therapies could help me further. This led me on my personal journey to healing my gut health, asthma, and allergies - becoming medication free after 20-something years of inhalers and antihistamines! I learnt the importance of balancing my body and mind connection.

My journey inspired me to help other people so I trained to be a health coach as well as a yoga instructor.

Trina shares her story of how she finally paused and listened to her body.

Holistic health and wellness is a practice that considers a person as a whole - mind, body and spirit - to support strong wellbeing and get the root cause of any issues.

Benefits of a holistic approach include...
- reduce your risk of illness
- manage modern day stressors
- bring more joy to your life

We talk about:
- food in Italy
- how it is prepared
- the taste and quality of foods
- fermented foods
- the ritual of Italian coffee
- olive oil
- inflammation
- how eating good food changes your taste buds
- pay attention to your body and what it needs

This episode was so much fun, full of so much laughter, real questions were asked and honest answers came from Annabel Orr. This episode is split into 2 episodes:

Part 1:Episode 31
I have a raw, honest chat with beautiful Annabel who was vulnerable enough to share with us her diagnosis with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in 2018 when she was 20yo.

She gives us a real look into her life and shares with us the emotions of living with a chronic illness. Annabel takes us on the journey with exactly what happened when she was diagnosed with MS, how she felt dealing with all of this and then falling pregnant the following month after the diagnosis with her daughter Heidi. 5 months postpartum she relapsed the worst to date. Her whole body at one point was numb including her eyeball and tongue, then she lost the heat and cold sensation on her left torso.

We talk about her worries for her future when she was diagnosed and could she even get pregnant again (and yes she got pregnant again with a beautiful baby boy, Miles) .
We also talk about her relapses, her medications and how life feels and looks like living a life as a wife and a mother of two beautiful children. Also dealing with being admitted to hospital in the middle of the pandemic and she could not even go to the toilet.

Annabel has learnt so much about herself during this and is now proud to say she is not a people pleaser and allows herself to do one thing at a time.

Part 2: Episode 32
In this episode we chat about body Image, body acceptance and how through self reflection how Annabel today loves her body. She also shares with us her experience with anxiety and depression.

I would LOVE to thank Annabel for being vulnerable and for sharing her story with us. It is such a privilege and a honour you chose me to help you share your story with the world.
Your are such a beautiful, gorgeous human inside and out.
Much Love,
Barb x

Join me in this episode as I talk about toxic relationships. What do they look like and how do you know if you are in one. I want to give you the tools to help you make better choices and good choices to surround yourself with the right people. Toxic relationships can come in many forms not just your family or partner.  Part of self care is building healthy connections and relationships with people.

When you start questioning things, find yourself playing detective,  start saying things to yourself like 'am I going crazy', or 'am I being silly', you feel unhappy, lonely and isolated.
Do you use your voice and your opinion or do you go with the flow to make the other person happy. Do you ignore the butterflies in your tummy?

I believe this episode is one YOU NEED to listen to.

I want to help you to trust your intuition. This is your biggest super power when dealing with toxic people. Join me as I dig deeper into this in my Toxic Relationships Masterclass that will be coming soon. To find out more please head over to my Instagram page @self_care_studio.

In this episode I chat about the basics of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) commonly known as Tapping with Toni Mills - a Clinical EFT Practitioner. This is a universal healing tool for stress management, anxiety relief & personal transformation. A great modality to use and add to your self care tool kit.

EFT is a ground breaking technique combining psychotherapy and acupressure, bringing together elements of exposure, cognitive therapy and somatic stimulation. EFT’s developers see it as being similar to acupuncture but without the needles, and it has been referred to as ‘psychological acupuncture’. As with acupuncture, EFT stimulates various pressure points on the face and body to relieve stress, which then alleviates many psychological based concerns.

EFT is a powerful self-applied, stress reduction method based on extensive research that shows emotional distress contributes greatly to illness. EFT can address a range of issues by simply focusing on the issue you would like to address with an acceptance statement, along with a simple two finger tapping technique.

We also talk about:
- Calming your nervous system
- Everything you have is at your finger tips
- Epigenetic's
- Toni shares her experience how tapping helped her when she got a tattoo
- Surrogate Tapping

EFT also seems to have the same calming effect on cortisol – the stress hormone. High cortisol levels can be caused by a variety of things, including biological stressors, and mood disorders such as depression and anxiety and psychological stress.

In this episode I chat with Alissa Mack, a qualified naturopath who consults with clients online from Esperance. She also partners up with Gut Aid Health. She loves talking about the gut as it influences everything.

Having never suffered from significant gut problems before, Alissa had never really given much thought to gut health. During her studies to become a Naturopath, it was constantly talked about and she started to get a fascination for gut health and see the utmost importance for a healthy gut. Even for herself who had “no gut issues”, she started to notice things she hadn’t before. She noticed her skin breaking out when she ate more sugar, the bloating after pasta, the lethargy when her nutrition was lacking and so on.

After graduating as a Naturopath, she was constantly in contact with people chatting about health whether it be mental health, pregnancy, tiredness or many chronic diseases. She noticed that everyone had gut related symptoms, but many just thought that was a part of life. She started to realise she was unable to help these people with their health, without starting with their gut. Her eyes were opened to the health of one’s gut being the foundation for their health.

As her passion grew, it became contagious to those around her, she wanted to help everyone. Her sister also caught this bug. After struggling with gut issues since her teenage years they were adamant to fix her gut and as kids came along, they were just as passionate to see her kids be setup with a good foundation and address any gut issues that came along.

Gut health is simple but complex - there are so many simple things you can do and lifestyle changes you can put into place to help you. They are quick and easy and you can do them today!

Alissa believes that although very common, poor gut health and consequent symptoms are indicators that something is not right, this is not something to ignore or learn to cope with but something to be paid attention to and fix.

Her aim is to help others to take notice, understand and take charge of fixing their gut. Through education, tools, nutritional advice, recipes and supplement recommendations they hope to empower those around us to heal their guts and in turn influence the rest of their health and wellbeing - this is why Alissa is on my podcast today.

We also chat about digestive enzymes the little guys inside who job it is to break things down and the incredible job they can do for us.

She also shares with us 4 steps of how to heal your gut.

Functional medicine addresses the whole person, instead of a set of symptoms, by shifting the focus from disease-centric treatment to a multi-dimensional understanding of how the full spectrum of a person’s life impacts their overall wellness.

The need for functional medicine:
Increases in chronic disease demonstrate that our society is dealing with a health crisis. Traditional medicine emphasizes acute treatment for issues that have already risen, whereas functional medicine emphasizes finding and treating the causes of symptoms and disease using the following science-based strategies:

  • Nutrition
  • Exercise & movement
  • Sleep
  • Advanced laboratory testing
  • Stress management
  • Toxin reduction

Through this full-spectrum approach to each person’s total wellbeing, functional medicine offers a comprehensive solution to not only ease chronic conditions but prevent them entirely.

My  recording decided to loose the last 5 mins so I have to improvise, so I know the last 5 mins sounds a bit different to the rest of the audio in this podcast....it is such a good one. I know you will enjoy it.

In this episode I chat with Sam Murray from Empowered Holistic Counselling  & Wellness.
A great episode for those men in your life too, to understand a bit more about Endo and how is not just about your period or 'that time of the month'.

We had a great in-depth chat about being your own health advocate, learning about your intuition, using your voice and if something doesn't feel right to keep going until you find the answers that are right for you and sit right with you.  Sam has been living with Endo and Adeno and how it impacts her entire life. She speaks about her journey from 10yo and how she navigated and has dealt with things as they have come up, and the changes she has made to her life, career and health.

What does a holistic health approach look like when 'pushing through' doesn't work.....

A bit about my guest, from my beautiful guest today:
I’m Lena Moxon, a purpose and embodiment guide, certified by the Dharma Coaching Institute and featured as a guide on Wellweb. I’ve spent most of my life creating containers where discovery and growth can happen. I have owned and operated gyms and personal training studios for the last 13 years in Sydney, Auckland and now Geelong, Victoria. My role has always been to facilitate a process that encourages people to discover what they need to discover and makes positive change possible.

Working with me will give you the freedom to begin to understand what it means to be fully expressed with your life, and to do what you do from a place of curiosity, creative resiliency and joy rather than fear and defensiveness.

Empowering yourself to become the leader within your own life will make your contributions more powerful, and you will inspire and facilitate this kind of development in others – the work you do within yourself will have a ripple effect on everyone around you.

If you want to reconnect to the parts of you that you’ve been operating without, move through fears and old self-protective strategies that are in your way so that you can step into your purpose and power in ways that make doing the good work you want to do easier and more fulfilling - I would love to work with you.
