GOD FORGAVE AND FORGIVES AGAIN [ZECHARIAH 12]
- God forgave people and restores them a right relationship to Him
- Knowing they would fall again in the days of Zechariah points to Jesus
- God's mercy extends past our shortcomings
- God's grace should compile us to strive to live godly
Religiously Relating To God [Zechariah 7]
- We must not confuse our traditional religious practices with God's desired way of relating to Him if they weren't originated in God's Word.
- In Zechariah the Jews after the exile wanted to know what to do about their fast to with Zechariah had to inform them that God never instructed His people to fast.
- A relationship with God is determined by God.
The Limit's Of Satan's Power [Zechariah 3]
- Satan is limited by God in what he can do against God's people
- While Satan has power, it pales in comparison to God's power
- We have to choose to be influenced by Satan, he can't force us
- God's grace covers us even in our sin which should compel us to live to a godly standard
Consider Your Ways [Ezra 5 / Haggai 1]
- We are all influenced by messages, which ones do we allow to influence us
- As God's children we must not be dissuaded by the world from doing God's work
- We must be reflective of our actions and make sure they align with the Will of God
God's Enduring Word [1 Kings 13]
- Word of God can take years to be fulfilled
- Important to think beyond our life when assessing the validity of Word of God
- God gave a prophecy to Jeroboam detailing Josiah's actions
- Prophecy given expands history of the Kingdom of Israel in Old Testament
- There are consequences for not heading God's Word
- It is important to check source of claimed words from God by seeking God's confirmation
- Source of message might throw off ability to discern from a humanly perspective
Separated For The Benefit Of All [Hab 1:1-4]
- We have to learn to see things as God sees
- That at times causes us to learn to separate from others
- When we understand where we are as a whole it leads one to try to help bridge gap between where we are as God's people and where He wants us to be
- Our prayers can have an impact
- Isolation is not for the cause to be apart but rather to try to influence others
- Even in bad times God is in control and we truly see that when we focus on Him and not our situations
Forgetting God [Nahum 1:1-8]
- Nahum's Prophecy to Nineveh foretelling their downfall 150yrs after Jonah
- The world's false appearance of control can cause God's people to lose faith and fall into despair
- God reassures Nahum that He is in control and will enact vengeance on Nineveh
- God's retribution comes on His time, He is always in control
God's Intention Of Good For His People [Micah 4]
- God genuinely intends good for His people even at times when things are difficult
- The good is fully realized in a relationship with God rated in faith
- Hezekiah and David are good examples of how God brings about His good
- No matter where we come from or what is happening in the world a relationship with God can be fostered and beneficial
Attitude Towards God's Corrective Word [Micah 2:6-13]
- We must be mindful of our heart when we hear a message from God
- The people who Micah prophesied to didn't want to listen to his message because it didn't align with what they believed or wanted to hear
- Amaziah in II Chronicles 25 provided another example of how important it is for our heart to be right to hear the Word of God
- God's corrective Word might not be easy to hear but it benefits those who accept it
