Akilah S. Richards is passionate about mindful partnerships and decolonizing parenting practices. She started Raising Free People Network, a digital multimedia platform for education, deep listening, and emergent collaborations at the intersection of privilege, parenting, and power. Her unschooling podcast is called Fare of the Free Child, and her latest book, Raising Free People: Unschooling as Liberation and Healing Work is available through PM Press, many local bookstores, and on Amazon.

How has the life and recent death of Queen Elizabeth II influenced popular culture as we know it today?
It seems like the recent news of Queen Elizabeth II’s death and the current state of the British monarchy is yet another event that is dividing people across media and creating even more polarization in our collective culture.
From feelings of admiration and appreciation for the Queen and the British Monarchy to feelings of disdain, suffering, and ill will; you’ll find a little bit of everything from voices across the globe that can cause confusion and overwhelm.
In this episode, Sundiata uses authentic dialogue as a tool of liberation to share how he’s been navigating social discourse in order to adjust his worldview.
We propose that all feelings can be valid and that we can still interrogate and hold systems of oppression accountable while not taking the time to demonize one individual or one entity.

In this episode, Sundiata chats with Nth Bar-Fields (Dream Director, Data Analyst & Social Entrepreneur) about navigating roadblocks as a neurodivergent change-maker while also de-weaponizing gender & sex by creating safe spaces to include nonbinary ways of thinking, being, and working.
Nth Bar-Fields is one of the first adopters of DNA testing applied to discovering one’s ancestral roots. When Nth volunteered as an early test subject, their results revealed much more than what parts of the world their ancestors hailed from.
With two distinct DNA sets, Nth discovered they are two people—one male (XY) and one female (XX)—joined together to make a unique individual with a singular journey that resolved many previously unanswerable questions in the spaces of sexuality and gender; answers that Nth has offered to share with Grow Dialogue’s listeners.
Listen in as Dr. Soon-Jahta and Bar-Fields explore questions such as, ”What is it like when two of your senses are attracted to men and another two of your senses are attracted to women?” and, “what is it like to be born male but also have to worry about ovarian cancer?”

In this episode, Sundiata chats with Lawrence “Nature Boy” Seals who shares his vision of how hyper-local food systems can shift our modern culture, in turn, creating more equity, a deeper sense of purpose, and belonging on both a local and global level.
As an emergency responder with the US Army, Lawrence Seals observed a lack of government-sanctioned infrastructure for communities in the areas he was assigned to when touring overseas. Seals witnessed firsthand devastation and destruction within the war-torn territories. However, it was the resolve to thrive by those within those communities that inspired Seals to begin his journey toward community-based agriculture for our own underserved, underdeveloped communities here at home.
Overseas, Seals quickly observed a consistency within the communities that were “self-
sustaining.” He saw an unmistakable commonality among the thriving communities: an implementation of coordinated community efforts to maintain their survival, even during times of uncertainty.
These communities abroad were growing their own food, even using centuries-old irrigation techniques in the unforgiving desert landscape. Seals realized that health and wellness can only be sustained through consistent access to living food and clean water.

Sundiata chats with Dr. T. Anansi Wilson (he/they) to reveal their vision of what’s next in pop culture as it relates to Black Queerness.
Dr. Wilson is an associate professor of law and the founding director of the forthcoming Center for the Study of Black Life and The Law at Mitchell Hamline School of law. They are an award-winning scholar of law, literary and cultural studies, a racial-and gender justice consultant, and an author of creative nonfiction. They received their law degree from Howard Law School and their PhD in African & African Diaspora Studies from UT Austin.
Dr. Wilson employs Critical Race, Black Feminist, Performance and Women & Gender Studies and legal methodologies to examine how instances and (extra) legal precedents of anti-Black violence and racial-sexual terror continue to frame and impact notions of Black being and citizenship.

The Grow Dialogue Podcast’s #fanzine project is an experiment in liberation.
It’s a poetic call-to-action for our listeners to create and share!
We’re curating this intentional DIY (do it yourself) activity for our community members that combines poetic expression and activation in order to support our individual and collective liberation…in a creative way! Our intention is to invite our listeners to move from passively listening to conversations around liberation, to actively creating their own liberation project!

Here's what you can do to participate:
We want you to create your own liberation project, using the Theory of Indivisibility as your inspiration. Check out the tools of indivisibility here, or rewatch our live demo to hear Sundiata break it down for us. We’re looking forward to seeing what you create with us this season! Keep in mind that this process will continue all season, and you’ll have time to ask more questions and even present your fanzine process to our community!
