When long-standing swimmer Judie Johnson headed into the water for her usual Tuesday dip in a sheltered bay on the Coromandel Peninsula, there was little to indicate it would be anything out of the ordinary.

There are certain things you don't expect to see during a day at the beach, which is why beachgoers in Saugatuck, Michigan, were shocked to see an unusually calm deer hanging out near the edge of Lake Michigan. Kathleen Kennedy Ferris says she was enjoying her annual trip to Saugatuck Dunes State Park with her family when they caught sight of the deer.
"[My kids] thought it was a big dog and then absolutely flipped out when they were like 'oh my God, it's a deer,'" Ferris told the Detroit Free Press. "Everyone was just absolutely in shock."
Yes, we can imagine their surprise that what they thought was a household pet turned out to be a wild animal!

Italo Nascimento Fernandes captured video of the rescue in the city of Porto Velho. He told the animal news website The Dodo that he and his wife saw the snake on the side of the highway and decided to pull over to help it.
"We decided to stop the car and get out," he said. "There are no signs for the cars to wait so she can cross. I have seen snakes run over on the highway before and think such a thing is a crime."

Old Man Sparkles — the name given to the 36.5-inch, 22-pound Gerrard rainbow trout caught by Sophie Egizi, 8, of Sagle — was recently certified as a state catch-and-release record by the Idaho Fish and Game.
Sophie, the daughter of Bob and Jessi Egizi, caught the fish Oct. 11, trolling a fly while fishing with Capt. Bob Wiley of Pend Oreille Charters. The family learned three weeks later it was a record.

A lone kayaker has captured “thrilling” footage of a close encounter with a 30ft whale off the coast of Cornwall.
Rupert Kirkwood, 62, from Holsworthy in Devon, filmed the moment he was circled by a Minke whale for 20 minutes while paddling offshore near Fowey.
Mr. Kirkwood said: “Whales are very difficult to spot because they just roll off the surface without a splash, and then they go.

This is the incredible moment a female bear survived falling down a cliff after she was attacked by a male bear while protecting her cub.
Filmed in the Montaña Palentina Natural Park in the northern Spanish region of Palencia on 6 June, the female bear was seen fighting with the male bear near the Peña de Santa Lucía rock formations.
The male bear began to attack her as she defended her cub, but within seconds they both dropped down the cliffside from a great height.
The pair land with a thump on the ground, and while the male bear remains close to where he fell, the female bear continues to fall down further into the depths of the vertical rock face.

It was like a nightmare come true: A 77-year-old woman in Clearwater, Florida awoke to find an 11-foot alligator in her kitchen.

Mary Wischhusen was extremely brave when she heard the noise of a loud crash inside her home around 3:30 a.m. on May 31. She went into her kitchen and saw an alligator looking back at her! Yikes.

However, one particular majestic pinto stallion named Picasso has risen above the fame of even his fellow herd members to become one of the most iconic wild horses in America.
Picasso is estimated to be about 30 years old, making him the elder mustang in the herd. His age certainly seems to come with plenty of respect among his fellow equines. According to a basin visitor named Patti Mosbey, even the other mustangs treat Picasso with a sort of reverence.
Mowgli was in so much pain that he cried when Mysti Boehler touched him anywhere but one spot on the side of his face.
Boehler herself cried through Mowgli's first vet exam, while she and the veterinarian searched his young body for all the cuts, all the injuries, that were making him hurt so much.

An Elephant was found in Liwonde National Park. He was debilitated entirely and had a wire snare trap digging into the flesh of his leg near his foot. The poor animal could not move, feed, or even get water to alleviate his condition.
