We chatted about many important topics including:
Bridgette is a registered, counsellor who specialises in body image counselling, and holding a space for EVERYbody. She supports people to make peace with their body, eat intuitively, find joy in movement, and become self-compassionate. With lived experience of navigating the world in a bigger body since childhood she understand firsthand what it's like to face constant criticism, not feel good enough and to have a body that the world says does not belong.
She first discovered the Health at Every Size (HAES) paradigm in 2013, when working on a uni assignment for her first career. It changed her life, so much so that in 2021 Bridgette commenced a Master of Counselling so she could transition careers and help others in bigger bodies. Bridgette hopes to create the sort of space for others that she wish she had embarking on her own body image journey. In her spare time, Bridgette can be found playing in the kitchen, out at brunch, or meeting the many and varied demands of her dog Molly.

Have you ever felt pressure to 'eat clean' in pursuit of the perfect diet?
'Clean eating' is a vague, non-scientifically-defined term that usually refers to diets containing mostly whole, minimally processed foods. 'Clean eating' demonises certain foods as 'bad' and elevates other foods as 'good/'pure'/'healthy'. Unfortunately, black and white thinking around food can really impact our relationship with food!

How do you know if you're exercising for the right reasons? Engaging in joyful movement is an important part of overall wellbeing. However, many people struggle with their relationship with exercise in eating disorder recovery, and it may feel compulsive or driven by feelings of guilt or anxiety.
In this episode, Kiah and Meg chat with exercise physiologist Alanah Reilly about:
Alanah Reilly (nee Dobinson) (she/her) is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP), clinical supervisor, and the founder and director of Autonomy in Movement. This passion is a far cry from her past life as a typical ”gym bro”, where she lived an obsessive and judgemental lifestyle revolving around food, exercise and appearance. It was only when she completed her final year university practicum at a youth mental health space inside a local hospital, then subsequently sought reception work at an eating disorder clinic to learn more about the problematic diet space, that she realised this lifestyle may not be serving her anymore. That there were alternative ways to live life that could help, not harm, her’s and other’s self worth, wellbeing, sporting performance and quality of life.
Alanah occupies multiple privileges and uses these as platforms to help amplify the voices and experience of others. Alanah practices from a “whole-person”, social justice, trauma-informed, size-inclusive and evidence-based framework, and positions the individual as the expert of their experience and herself as a collaborator walking alongside them.
You can find Alanah on Instagram at @alanah.reilly.exercise.phys.

The 'silly season' can be a fun time of year, but it can also be full of mixed feelings, especially for those struggling with their relationship with food or body.
With food-filled social events or Christmas parties, sometimes the lack of control around food can cause anxiety, or lead into a binge-restrict cycle. Sadly, it's also more common to hear more dieting + body talk, and to receive unsolicited comments from friends or family.
