In this episode, I am thinking about the process of reconnecting with myself aka my "putting me first" era.

I' m reflecting on how quickly summer has flown by and how each year seems to bring the same familiar feeling, especially as September approaches. September has always felt like a ‘new year’ to me, likely because of my past experiences working in post-secondary education.

I find that the fall season brings me a renewed sense of energy. Recently, I've experienced two significant mindset shifts that have made a big difference for me. The first is going back to basics—embracing the small, simple things that make everyday life better. The second is the concept of an ideal calendar, something I
learned from JT Barnett. It involves creating an ideal version of my calendar and overlapping it with my actual schedule, ensuring that my days align with how I truly want to live.

As I wrap up this episode, I share some of the things I’m currently loving and highly recommend, hoping to leave you with some inspiration to take into your own life.

Today, we are thinking about being sexy and sober aka choosing yourself and raising your standards. In this episode, we chat with Courtney Croucher, an empowerment coach who focuses on empowering women through mindset work, values, and beliefs, which she states translate into confidence. Courtney describes her approach as blunt with a side of woo-woo. Beyond her coaching, she is also a Pilates and breathwork instructor. Courtney raises the standard for others in her work, embodying the values she promotes.

Recently celebrating one year of sobriety, Courtney has rebranded herself as “Sxy N Sober”. She shares a vivid early memory of drinking at around age 15, which resulted in a concussion from hitting her head on a cab door, marking the beginning of a downhill journey. After years of an on-again, off-again relationship with alcohol and realizing repeatedly that drinking wasn’t enjoyable, Courtney had a pivotal moment on a plane returning from an inspirational weekend. Ironically, after a few glasses of wine, something shifted, sparking the start of her sobriety journey.

Now sober, Courtney finds she no longer falls into past patterns of self-sabotage, which has been one of the most significant takeaways from her journey. She also delves into her community, Sxy N Sober, created to fill the gap she noticed in elevated experiences for sober people. Her tagline, choosing yourself and raising your standards, encapsulates her mission.

Courtney emphasizes the importance of boundaries to limit resentment and shares her wellness hacks, including contrast therapy, meditation, breathwork, and brain care, which have supported her through her journey. In the conversation, Kirsti prompts Courtney to share tips for finding community, specifically in Toronto, and Courtney offers valuable insights. The discussion also touches on the nature of friendships and how it’s okay to have different friends who serve different areas of your life.

Today, we are thinking about life and all the ups and downs. In this solo episode, I take a moment to check in and reflect on some significant events from the past year and most recently that have got me thinking on a deep level.

I begin this heartfelt episode thinking about the emotional and mental burdens we often carry daily, invisibly I might add, that are hard to put down. I share how to navigate these feelings and provide analogies to be ok. I also reflect on the paradox of experiencing both challenging and wonderful moments simultaneously, a common remarkable aspect of life.

Throughout this episode, I encourage you to trust yourself, you know best. And, always remember it is “just pretty flowers on the table” (tune in to know what I am talking about).

The overarching message of this episode is to trust the process and remember life unfolds in its own time.

Today, we're thinking about all things tarot with Jayne Marie.

Jayne comes from generations of those with unusual gifts. She was lucky enough to have those people surround me with the encouragement to accept the ethereal as simply a part of daily life. And she continues to this day with the understanding that there are many parts of ourselves that we can access to our benefit. She feels truly blessed to be able to share this ability with others.

For many years Jayne has studied, and continues to study, Tarot, Numerology, Jungian aspects of Tarot, Astrology, and the understanding of the transcendent power of energy. I am an Usui Reiki Master, Tibetan Reiki Master, Master in NLP Hypnotism, and Time Line Therapy. She considers herself a lifelong learner, and also learn from her clients every day.

Jayne believes that Tarot is what your unconscious mind wants your conscious mind to pay attention to regarding the situation. It acts as a jump start to remove blockages that impede happiness and fulfillment. In readings, she simply opens the path to this knowledge and allows it to flow, providing clear and empowering insights that can pinpoint issues and offer solutions. Her joy comes from the self-knowledge and insights that people accept to alter their lives in a way that benefits them and everyone they love.

In the episode we discuss:

  • Learning she had unique talents from an early age
  • The impact of sound frequencies
  • How tarot and supporting others became her life work
  • What you need to know about learning tarot
  • What to ask in a tarot reading
  • Protecting her own energy during readings

Today, we're talking to a social media icon and one of my favourite people on the Internet, Mallory Rowan!

Mallory’s bio is impressive – she founded her first business at 22 and in 7 years, has been a three-time founder to successful companies, she hit $1M networth at 29 and has been featured and partnered with a TON of your favourite brands. In the time I’ve been following her, reading her newsletter, and taking her workshops – she’s taught me not only about social media and marketing but also about building habits that keep me healthy, cycle synching, money moves, ways to find peace, and so much more.

After experiencing burnout, she shifted her business and life to make it work for her and is a constant inspiration to me along with 116K other people on IG (not to mention her TT, YT and email audiences) to help take back control of our businesses and build the lives we want.

In the episode, we discuss:

  • Hustle culture
  • If Instagram is really dead
  • The mindset shift she followed that led to growing 60K in 60 days (and continuing the growth after)
  • Her experience mindset she uses to approach social media
  • How to recognize when your content is working
  • Finding your network as a business owner and celebrating your wins
  • Why you don't necessarily need to know what is going to happen in 5 years
  • And so much more

Today, we’re thinking about all things money or $HMONEY with Anastasia Barbuzzi – a journalist and the creator/host of $HMONEY Radio. $HMONEY makes financial literacy approachable, attainable, and fun to talk about for millennial women. In short Phoebe, is a choreographer in the boardroom and executive on the dance floor.

In all that, she see's one common thread in all the roles, projects and work she creates, that the world needs art and artist and believes they are necessary to save us from the Dumpster Fire of a world we live in.

Phoebe writes a weekly substack called the Creators Dispatch where she discusses the creative process and journey, hosts community events and publishes her essays and poetry for her substack community. Her essays, artwork and speaking have been featured in CBC, Blog t.o and her newest essay can be found in Yolk magazine January 2023. She is currently writing a book and won't shut up about it, drinks too many oat mylk lattes and She creates work for the big feelers and collective thinkers, and aim to inspire creativity in us all.

Today, we’re joined by Ali Kates, a Certified Trauma Recovery Coach and Somatic Experience Practitioner In-Training who believes that trauma & emotional pain is not just about what happened to you, but how it left your nervous system after said event. The thing that people do not realize about trauma is that it cannot be "out talked" or "out thought", it lives in the BODY.

Most people that Ali works with (including herself) have tried almost everything under the sun to work on themselves and their emotional pain/trauma but nothing seems to move the needle until they address the trauma stored in the body. The body remembers everything even if your mind forgets and this is why in her coaching practice she focuses largely on the BODY.

When trauma is stored in the body for too long it will start manifesting in disease, autoimmune, gut dysbiosis, skin issues, fatigue, weight gain, and more. The key to working through this is learning the tools to move it out of your body. She encourages people that what works for one person may not work for you, which is OK and to accept that healing is unique, just like you.

In today’s episode we talk about how emotional charges are held in your body, the emotional cycle and how to complete it, places in your body you may feel tension, finding empowerment in your experiences, the connection between feeling behind in life and your mental health, how anger can be used in a healthy way and so much more.

Today, we're thinking about the overarching theme of the importance of tuning into you with Linh Phan. Linh is the founder of Bona Fide Life Coaching and a body acceptance and intuitive eating coach. She grew up as a restaurant kid, working in her parents’ Chinese restaurant in small-town Canada from the age of 12. Food was the reason for her family to come together and connect and it was, and always will be, a love language for her. However, Linh realizes that many people have difficult relationships with food and she has made it her mission to raise awareness around diet culture and the harmful effects it has on people’s physical and mental health. Linh works one-on-one with people who struggle with shame and guilt around eating and helps them find joy and peace with food – and with themselves.

In the episode, you’ll hear about Linh’s journey to her current business after working in the financial industry, she walks us through diet culture, intuitive eating and her experience with intentional movement. We talk a lot about the changes we’ve seen in our own lives after we stopped living on autopilot. She gives us actionable tips on how to find validation within yourself, again something I’ve been working on heavily for the last while, how not to fall victim to the new year new you craze of January, finding ways to move your body that you actually enjoy, prioritizing yourself even when you’re busy, check in on yourself, and so much more.
