  • What if your regrets aren’t burdens to carry forever, but visiting teachers here to deliver a lesson and then move on? In this episode of The Soul Podcast, I explore how to transform regret from a source of lingering pain into a powerful tool for growth and freedom.

Drawing on wisdom from best-selling author Dan Pink, Stoic philosopher Epictetus, psychologist Carl Jung, and insights from psychology and contemplative spirituality, you’ll discover how regret can clarify what we value and guide wiser living—when we meet it with self-compassion instead of self-criticism.

Through a personal story, practical tools, and a simple heart-centered practice, learn how to release the pull of the past, embrace presence, and turn old regrets into stepping stones for greater joy and authenticity. If you’re ready to stop letting yesterday hold you back and walk forward with more lightness and peace, this episode is for you.

SHOW NOTES

Quotes:

“Regret is healthy and universal. It’s an integral part of being human. Regret is also valuable. It clarifies, it instructs. Done right, it needn’t drag us down, it can lift us up. - Dan Pink

“Every event has two handles, one by which it can be carried, and one by which it can’t. Use the other.” - Epictetus

“If one does not constantly walk forward, the past sucks one back. The past is like an enormous sucking wind that sucks one back all the time. If you don’t go forward you regress. As soon as you begin to look backward sadly, or even scornfully, it has you again. The past is a tremendous power.” - Carl Jung

“What was given to us by the past is adapted to the possibilities and demands of the future.” -Carl Jung

“Living life in the spiritual dimension means letting go equally of past and future and being present for each moment as it arises.” -Not Attributed

  • In this episode I explore the hilarious (and surprisingly insightful) ways we talk to AI — from impatient demands to Siri and those snippy ChatGPT prompts. What if those everyday moments are actually a mirror for our ego, stress, and inner state? With plenty of laughs and zero judgment, we dive into how these interactions can become playful opportunities for greater patience, self-awareness, and soul-aligned living. Plus, I share a simple “AI Awareness Pause” practice you can try this week. Tune in for a lighthearted look at how even talking to machines can help us grow.

  • In this special between-seasons episode, we return to the powerful foundation laid in the first eight episodes and explore humanity’s oldest and most universal truth: there is an eternal part of us—the soul—and its inseparable partner, love. We examine how every culture throughout history has recognized these two great intangibles, and why they remain at the very core of what it means to be human. Discover how love is not merely part of our journey, but may actually be our journey. Drawing from ancient wisdom and modern evidence, including near-death experiences where the vast majority of people return with the same profound message—that life is all about love and the questions we face on the other side nearly always center on how deeply we loved—we uncover truths hidden in plain sight.

This is an invitation to remember who you really are: an eternal soul here to experience every nuance of love in human form. Perfect for longtime listeners and newcomers alike, this episode will reignite your sense of purpose and remind you what truly matters.

  • What happens when your basic needs are met, but something still feels missing? In this episode, we explore Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and the sacred call to self-actualization. Through stories of extraordinary achievers like John D. Rockefeller, Howard Hughes, and Richard Branson, we examine why wealth and success often leave us hollow — and how the search for meaning and purpose lifts us into a richer, more soul-aligned life. I also share a simple 7-day “Meaning in the Everyday” practice to help you begin noticing what truly lights you up. If you’ve ever felt restless despite having “enough,” this episode is your gentle invitation to climb higher. What are you here to give?

The Meaning In Everyday Practice

  1. What did I create, do, or give today — even something small — that felt meaningful? (A kind word, a task well done, something I made or helped with.)

  2. Who or what did I love or truly connect with today — a person, a moment in nature, a piece of music, or a simple act of care?

  3. Where did I notice a small sense of peace or aliveness, even if the day was hard?

In this episode I open up about my personal experience with past life regression therapy and how it helped me finally understand a recurring childhood dream that played over and over in my sleeping life for decades.I also dive into the groundbreaking work of Dr. Brian Weiss and the incredible true story behind his book Many Lives, Many Masters, exploring how past life memories might heal deep fears and phobias in the present. Whether you believe in reincarnation or not, this episode examines the surprising power of belief and how sometimes the healing matters more than proving what’s “real.”If you’ve ever had a strange recurring dream, an unexplained fear, or felt an instant soul connection with someone, this one’s for you.

In this episode, discover how to strengthen integrity without guilt or self-shame. We often justify small compromises to avoid discomfort, but those quiet excuses can create inner tension and dim our light. Instead of harsh self-criticism when we notice them, learn to meet these moments with gentle awareness and compassion. I share a simple personal story of catching a justification in action and how pausing kindly shifted everything. We explore the psychological roots (cognitive dissonance and growth mindset) and the spiritual invitation (turning "wounds" into openings for grace, as Rumi teaches). The heart of the episode is The Justification Pause—a quick, loving tool to spot excuses, understand what's beneath them, and choose alignment in the moment. This practice builds real self-trust, deeper peace, and lasting joy—no shame required. Try it this week and reclaim the freedom of living authentically. Listen now and step into your integrity with grace.

Series: Keep the Keepers: Building an Honorable Circle for Joyful Living
(A 3-Part Series on The Soul Podcast)

Episode 2: Mind and Spirit: The Inner Pull of Your Circle

In this episode: I explore why it's so hard to leave friendships or groups that quietly diminish us—even when we sense it's time. I cover the psychological roots of belonging and common reasons we stay stuck, like fear of loneliness and sunk costs, while blending in the spiritual side—how misaligned connections affect the soul. I use stories to show how change works: from Tim Allen’s turnaround -as well as my experience in The ManKind Project circles- to show the power of choosing uplifting bonds.

Key Takeaway: Struggling to let go is human; awareness is the gentle first step toward better circles.

Reflection Tool: Notice how you feel after time with friends—expanded or contracted? Just observe, no judgment. New episodes drop weekly. Share with someone feeling that quiet pull.

Series: Keep the Keepers: Building an Honorable Circle for Joyful Living
(A 3-Part Series on The Soul Podcast)

Episode 1: The Roots of Influence: Why Your Circle Matters

In this opening episode, we explore a timeless truth: the people we surround ourselves with shape our character, our choices, and our joy far more than we often realize. Drawing from ancient wisdom—Stoic philosophers like Epictetus, Seneca, Pythagoras, and Marcus Aurelius, as well as the millennia-old concepts of Satya (truth) and Dharma (righteous path) from Hindu and Buddhist teachings—I show how honorable friends create a mutual ripple of growth, where we become both mentor and mentee.

Through a personal childhood story about his mother’s simple yet profound advice—“Keep the keepers—and know the difference”—and a teaser of Tim Allen’s powerful turnaround, this episode lays the foundation for understanding why vetting our circle with integrity is essential for a joyful life.

Key Takeaway: Awareness of who we let in is the first gentle step toward deeper alignment and authentic joy.

Reflection Tool: List three qualities of integrity in your closest friends—then ask: Do they inspire me to grow? Do I feel like both giver and receiver?

Listen now and begin curating the circle your soul deserves. New episodes drop weekly. Share with someone who might need this reminder.

One 72-year-old man quietly asked, “What good can I do here while I’m still on this earth?” — then donated nearly 900 acres of family land to the Kalispel Tribe instead of selling to developers.
This episode explores Gary Verbrugge’s inspiring act of stewardship as a living example of spiritual emergence. Opening with Desmond Tutu’s wisdom and the Native proverb “We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children,” it invites you to reflect on your own daily choices and the quiet legacy you’re creating.

In this episode I explore “The Great Return” — the quiet but powerful shift happening in our culture as the long decline in organized religion levels off and, in some places, begins to reverse.

I look at why Gen Y, Gen Z, and especially young men are showing up again, how spirituality and religion are starting to walk hand-in-hand, and what role recent events and our deep human hunger for meaning and community are playing in this change.

I share why this matters, what it says about our spiritual longing, and why it gives me hope for the future.

The episode closes with an encore presentation of my two-part series, The Spiritual Revolution.

Ever judged how long it takes you to heal, grieve, change? Me too! And now I want to stop. Here's a quickie about embracing your natural pace.

The Story In My Head -Show Description

The Story in My Head is a podcast about healing, self-improvement and self-care for the lazy. It's a raw and meandering journey through the stories in my head that create fear, plant obstacles and disable me from living the life I want. This is NOT your average self-help podcast. It is not polished and refined and presented as a recipe for healthy living. Rather its an honest sharing of the stories that feed my dark spaces, the consequences of my storytelling, and the ways I'm working to re-write the narrative. I think most of us tell stories in our heads that we fear will be judged if we share. I want to explore the stories that make us uncomfortable including ones about depression, anxiety, conflict, self-esteem, sex, relationships, death, addiction, parenting, adulting. This list goes on and on. These are the issues I struggle with and I don't think I'm alone, yet most people don't want to talk about them. WTF? The Story in My Head podcast, hosted by me...Amy. Where my guests and I talk honestly about things that make us uncomfortable. We will share our stories, our experiences and the nuggets we gather along the way. You might laugh a little. You may cry a little. I suspect you will be able to relate. Nonetheless, it will be shameless entertainment. If you like Unf*ck Your Brain, Help Me Be Me, Unlocking Us, The Mel Robbins Podcast, On Purpose with Jay Shetty, Terrible Thanks for Asking, Therapy for Black Girls, Goop, The Happiness Lab, and Happier then you may enjoy The Story in My Head.

In this episode of The Soul Podcast, I dive into The Deep Need for Authenticity with Carl Jung’s timeless reminder: “The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.”

What if you could wake up every day wrapped in unshakable inner calm, overflowing with genuine vitality, quiet confidence, deeper connections, and true freedom—no more chasing approval?

We explore how subtle childhood adaptations quietly pull us away from our real selves… and why reclaiming authenticity is the brave, gentle journey that brings profound peace and self-love.

I share my own story—from turning humor into a social “superpower” and stand-up stage to realizing it sometimes hid my true self—and how choosing vulnerability opened the door to real connection.

Plus, a reflection on the quietly powerful people we admire: those who walk their talk, embrace flaws, speak kindly yet directly, and radiate calm confidence.

If you’re ready to peel back the layers, feel more at home in your own skin, and live a life that feels undeniably yours, this episode is your invitation.

One small authentic step can change everything. Listen now.

The Seven Minute Daily Practice

  1. Set a timer for seven minutes.

  2. Sit somewhere quiet, close your eyes.

  3. Place one hand on your heart; this activates the vagus nerve and drops you into your body fast.

  4. In your own inner voice, mentally repeat:
“I love myself. I love myself. I love myself.”
Say it like you mean it. Say it until it feels true, even if it feels ridiculous at first.
When the mind wanders (and it will), just gently come back.

In this episode I invite you to tune into that quiet inner restlessness—the subtle “something’s off” feeling that lingers even when life looks perfect on the outside. We explore true personal integrity as the deep alignment between your authentic inner truth and how you live every day, drawing on Jung’s ideas of wholeness, my own story of leaving a draining role, and simple steps to notice where you’re out of sync and gently start closing the gap. Drawing on psychologist Mattias Desmet’s concept of “mass formation” (a form of collective hypnosis), I break down the four conditions that make societies vulnerable to propaganda, real-world examples of how it takes hold, and why we sometimes become its strongest enforcers.

Best of all, I share six practical tools I use daily—media fasts, belief audits, real connections, speaking truth, and more—to break the spell and reclaim sovereignty over your mind.

If you’ve ever stayed silent while others repeated something you knew wasn’t true, this one’s for you. True freedom starts inside.

SHOW NOTES:

Quotes:

On Being Present

"Presence is as a result of putting yourself in a position to accept it. It's not a place one can force oneself to be, because if I'm forcing anything at all, then it's impossible to be present." -Jerome Beauchamp

One Thing Dying Taught Me

"We should all be treated like we're living with a terminal diagnosis. Everyone has a terminal diagnosis, in one sense or another." - Jerome Beauchamp

On Finding Peace Through Acceptance and Simplifying Life

"Is there really something that I have to do in this moment or in this day or before I pass away? And I realize the natural consequences will prevail resulting in more peace of mind and more calmness. There's an extraordinary amount of acceptance and surrender involved." — Jerome Beauchamp

On How to Have Meaningful Conversations with Someone Who is Terminally Ill

"The best thing for me would be for someone to ask me if I'm interested in talking about it... and to actually discuss it like really seriously have a dialogue. Don't have one of those discussions that you ask me something and I say something and then you make it about you... But to actually be inquisitive about what's going on for that person." — Jerome Beauchamp

In this episode, Stacey shares a moving real-life encounter with a stranger in a wheelchair who, with two playful words—“Nice legs”—delivered a profound gift of perspective on a morning when his own aching knee felt heavy. Through this tender exchange, he explores the transformative power of self-enhancing humor, the choice to rise rather than shrink in the face of loss or pain, and how a single moment of connection can reframe our struggles and remind us of the freedom that lives in Viktor Frankl’s sacred “space” between stimulus and response.

They say the playground is where we not only have fun, but where we learn most. And our subconscious is just that! The space which houses our higher self. The “us” in our purest form. It is our true presence, our untainted spirit, and the all knowing compass that guides us on our path and nurtures us when we need it most.

As the subconscious connects us to our waking life, dreaming life, and after life, it would seem for us to be at a disadvantage to not regularly access it. It does after all hold the answers we so often seek. So how can we better communicate with this part of ourselves? How can we better tap in to help make this life a little less challenging and a little more magical? Tune into today’s episode where we discuss how to better get in touch with our subconscious, and why it might be more valuable than we think.

In this episode, we explore how transformative changes in science and technology, from Einstein’s relativity to the discovery of germs, have reshaped our understanding of the world. We delve into the mysteries that remain, like the origin of consciousness, and how thinkers like Max Planck and David Bohm suggest consciousness might be the foundation of reality. We also discuss the "Manifesto for a Post-Materialist Science," a movement challenging traditional scientific models to embrace phenomena beyond materialism. Join us to consider how a shift in belief could connect us all through consciousness, sparking profound ripple effects across humanity.

SHOW NOTES

Quotes:

"Progress is impossible without change." — George Bernard Shaw

"I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness. We cannot get behind consciousness. Everything that we talk about, everything that we regard as existing, postulates consciousness." - Max Planck

"Consciousness is much more than the 'ghost in the machine,' it is in fact the ground of all being. Consciousness is what the universe is made of; matter is just a derivative of consciousness." - David Bohm

We live in a world that craves answers. We want to solve every mystery, to map the unknown. But what if some things are meant to stay wild and unexplained? There is beauty in the unknown. Today, I want to tell you a story of one of these mysteries; a story about a bond so deep, it reaches beyond what we can explain—a connection that lingers past the edge of life itself. It’s a story that asks us to listen, not just with our minds, but with our souls.

SHOW NOTES

Today, many people are recognizing that spiritual belief is massively growing. Topics like near-death experience, spiritual exploration and the use of psychedelics have recently been discussed in such main stream spaces as the NY Time, National Geographic, VOX, The Guardian, and are frequently covered in Psychology Today. Spiritual ideas which seemed hippie, “woo-woo,” and “out-there” only 20 years ago, are now part of the cultural conversation. There’s a shift happening. We are in a state of spiritual awakening. But what exactly is this thing we call a spiritual awakening? In episode 2 of this series, I cover these topics and more.

The Age of Aquarius, The Shift, The Great Awakening, The New Earth, The Dawn of a New Era, The Age of Enlightenment, The Era of Spiritual Transformation. It’s been said many ways, but it means the same thing.

These terms imply significant changes or transitions in consciousness and spiritual awareness. Today I start a two-part series on the spiritual age we are currently in. What does it mean? And how do we embrace it?

Today I’m going to talk about masculinity -and why masculinity is as important now as it has been throughout history. I will also be challenging the term ‘toxic masculinity.’ The term ‘toxic masculinity’ wrongfully connects masculinity with negative behaviors that are actually rooted in a lack of maturity and self-control. We'll look at what masculinity is -and why men should strive to be genuinely masculine.

More people today are focused on spiritual growth than ever before. But what exactly is spiritual growth? The answer to that question isn’t as simple as we might hope. The one thing that’s clear is that it requires us to turn our focus inward. Where personal growth is done primarily externally. Spiritual growth is done primarily internally. That’s where the work happens. This is part one of a two part show on this topic.

Quotes:

“Sometimes questions are more important than answers.” -Nancy Willard (novelist, poet, illustrator)

"Without this playing with fantasy, no creative work has ever come to birth. The debt we owe to the play of imagination is incalculable. To have a philosophy of life is to tap into the creative potential of the human spirit." – Jung

"He who has a why to live can bear almost any how." - Friedrich Nietzsche, German philosopher

“There is not one big cosmic meaning for all; there is only the meaning we each give to our life, an individual meaning, an individual plot, like an individual novel, a book for each person.” -Anais Nin

The Big Question of Life:

The Great Questions

· What is the meaning of life? (Why are we here? What is our purpose?)

· What is the nature of reality? (Is reality as we perceive it? What is the relationship between perception and reality?)

· What is the nature of consciousness? (How does the mind arise from the brain? What is the relationship between the mind and the body?)

· What happens after we die? (Is there an afterlife, reincarnation, or nothingness? What does death mean for our existence?)

· What is good and evil? (How do we determine right from wrong? What is the basis of morality?)

· Is there a God or higher power? (Can the existence of God be proven or disproven?)

The Lesser Great Questions

· What is the nature of time? (Is time linear or cyclical? Can we understand its true essence?)

· What is freedom? (What does it mean to be truly free? Are our choices predetermined or do we have free will?)

· What is love? (How do we define and experience love? What role does it play in human life?)

The Still Lesser Questions

· What is beauty? (What makes something beautiful? Is beauty subjective or objective?)

· What is the best way to live? (How should we structure our lives for fulfillment and happiness? What constitutes a good life?)

· What is truth? (Can we ever know the truth? How do we distinguish truth from falsehood?)

· How should we handle suffering? (Why is there suffering in the world, and how should we respond to it?)

· What is knowledge? (What can we know, and how do we know it? What are the limits of human understanding?)

· How do we achieve justice? (What is justice, and how can it be realized in society?)

“God, whose love and joy are present everywhere, can’t come to visit you unless you aren’t there.” - Angelus Silesius

"True prayer requires no word, no chant, no gesture, no sound. It is communion, calm and still with our own godly ground." - Angelus Silesius

“Although the modes of meditation may appear to be different from one another, in the end all of them become one. There is no need to doubt this. One may adopt that path which suits the maturity of one’s mind.” - Ramana Maharshi

“What is meditation? What is abandonment of the body? What is fasting? What is the holding of breath? Is it a temporary palliative against the pain and folly of life? The driver of oxen makes this same flight, takes his temporary drug when he drinks a few bowls of rice wine or coconut milk in the inn. He then no longer feels his Self, no longer feels the pain of life; He then experiences temporary escape. Falling asleep over his bowl of rice wine, he finds what Siddhartha and Govinda find when they escape from their bodies by long exercises and dwell in the non self.” - Hermann Hesse

“At the end of the day, I can end up just totally wacky, because I’ve made mountains out of molehills. With meditation, I can keep them as molehills.” -Ringo Starr

"You are led through your lifetime by the inner learning creature, the playful spiritual being that is your real self." - Richard Bach

“In the religious sphere, many people have observed that these kind of changes seem to happen every 500 years—a period of upheaval followed by a period of settling down, then codification, and then upheaval again because we do not like to be codified.” Phyllis Tickle, author of The Great Emergence: How Christianity is Changing and Why (from an article in the Vancouver Sun article)

"People are looking for a new and different encounter with God. The strength of Protestantism was its rationalism—it took religion to the head. But today people want religion that also touches their hearts. It’s not anti-intellectual; mind and reason are still very important. But people want more than just an intellectual challenge. They want something that moves them emotionally, as well. It is bringing the heart and the head together." Phyllis Tickle, author of The Great Emergence: How Christianity is Changing and Why

  1. Understand and own the bias

  2. Agree to drop it

  3. Evolve to the next level

A few tools for this process:
· Empathy

· Self-reflection

· The ability to be vulnerably honest with yourself

When you feel yourself thinking a less than kind thought about someone or something, pause and ask yourself about it.

· Where did that attitude of mind come from?

· Does it serve you?

· Can you let it go?

In 1976 a group demonstrated that one percent of the population can reduce violent crime using only meditation. In their first experiment they were able to reduce violence by an average of 16%. The experiment has been repeated more than 50 times -and have consistently resulted in an unexplainable drop in violence, in the location focused on.
On tis episode I explore The Maharishi Effect.

S2 ep. 9 Near Death Experience #5 (final ep. in series)

There's a growing body of evidence on near death experience, which shows its more common than once thought. Is this unusual phenomenon evidence of the afterlife, and ultimately the Soul? In this five-part series we look at the evidence and history of NDEs.

QUOTES:
“It is possible to provide security against other ills, but as far as death is concerned, we men live in a city without walls.” - Epicurus

“Love is, without a doubt, the basis of everything. Not some abstract, hard-to-fathom kind of love but the day-to-day kind that everyone knows-the kind of love we feel when we look at our spouse and our children, or even our animals. In its purest and most powerful form, this love is not jealous or selfish, but unconditional.” -Eben Alexander

Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon's Journey into the Afterlife- Eben Alexander

QUOTES:

“…the science to which I’ve devoted so much of my life—doesn’t contradict what I learned up there. But far, far too many people believe it does, because certain members of the scientific community, who are pledged to the materialist worldview, have insisted again and again that science and spirituality cannot coexist.” - Eben Alexander, in his book Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon's Journey into the Afterlife

“Death does not concern us, because as long as we exist, death is not here. And when it does come, we no longer exist.” – Epicurus

"As a psychiatrist, this is the most fascinating aspect to me because I make my living trying to help people change their lives. That's very difficult to do. But here's this experience that in a few seconds, can totally transform someone's attitudes, values, beliefs and behavior. They typically make people more spiritual if I can use that word. They make them more compassionate, more caring, more altruistic, and they become much less interested in physical things—in material goods, in power, prestige, fame, competition.” – Dr Bruce Greyson

“I've seen career military people or policemen who could not tolerate the idea of hurting someone after their near-death experience change careers. I've seen cut-throat businessman who decided that competition was silly after a near-death experience change careers. And they typically go into helping professions." – Dr. Bruce Grayson

“This does not go away with time. I've talked to people in their 90s, who had the experience as teenagers, and they say it's like it happened yesterday—that they've never been able to go back to their old life.” – Dr. Bruce Grayson

“…when you lose your fear of death, you also lose your fear of life. Because you're not afraid of losing everything, you're not afraid of taking chances and living life to the fullest. And it makes life much more meaningful, and much more fulfilling.” – Dr. Bruce Grayson

"I basically used to have a very conventional, scientific and reductive materialist view that consciousness was created by the brain, and that only the physical world exists," -Dr Eben Alexander

"And what my coma journey showed me... is that consciousness is something that is fundamental in the universe and does not originate in the brain.” -Dr Eben Alexander

"What I experienced was the most extraordinary, memorable, detailed, and ultra-real experience of my entire life.” -Dr Eben Alexander

"In fact, the world we live in, this material world, is more kind of cloudy and dreamlike than what I saw on the other side. That world is sharp, crisp and alive - and very real." -Dr Eben Alexander

As humans move through our time  on Earth, we write down what we've learned and consider to be proven. Some of  what we've learned, we call scientific laws. The laws of science were created from our interaction with the material world. And they are at the heart of what science considers to be truth.
What if one of those laws supported the idea that there is a Soul?
In this episode we look at the evidence.

Welcome to the Soul Podcast –

For the past couple years I’ve been enjoying a podcast called Science and Spirituality. The show is hosted by Chris and Kevin Carton. They look at spiritual topics from a different angle. Most of what they look at, is from the scope of science.

I usually learn something new when I listen to Science and Spirituality. So, I arranged with Chris and Kevin to share one of their episodes.

And I think this is a great way to start season two, since I’m going to be looking at the idea of the Soul from a little more scientific perspective this season.

I think you’ll get as much from the show as I have.

So, enjoy the episode.

ABOUT
In the Science & Spirituality Podcast, Chris & Kevin dive deep into universal spiritual principles, while grounding them in modern science. Coming from a relationship that has evolved over 30 years, these brothers have a uniquely fun and playful approach that is like a breath of fresh air. Is it possible that seeing the Earth from space can lead to a Soul Reunion? Today we look at how men’s hearts and minds have been changed through glimpsing the Earth from a distance.

Show Notes

Quotes:

“In spite of the overwhelming beauty of this scene, serious inequity exists on the apparent paradise we have been given. I couldn't help thinking of the nearly one billion people who don't have clean water to drink, the countless number who go to bed hungry every night, the social injustice, conflicts, and poverty that remain pervasive across the planet.

Seeing Earth from this vantage point gave me a unique perspective —”

-Ron Garan

“Part of this is the realization that we are all traveling together on the planet and that if we all looked at the world from that perspective, we would see that nothing is impossible.”

  • Ron Garan

“The thing that really surprised me was that [Earth] projected an air of fragility. And why, I don't know. I don't know to this day. I had a feeling it's tiny, it's shiny, it's beautiful, it's home, and it's fragile.” -Michael Collins

“Orbiting Earth in the spaceship, I saw how beautiful our planet is,” Gagarin wrote on an autograph card after his flight. “Let us preserve and increase this beauty, not destroy it.” - Yuri Gagarin

“I’m so filled with emotion about what just happened. It’s extraordinary, extraordinary. It’s so much larger than me and life. It hasn’t got anything to do with the little green men and the blue orb. It has to do with the enormity and the quickness and the suddenness of life and death…” -William Shatner

“To see the blue color whip by you, and now you’re staring into blackness … everybody in the world needs to do this. Everybody in the world needs to see this.” -William Shatner

We’ve all heard of the “The voices in your head.”  But what’s that nagging voice we hear all day? What are the other voices, and how can we connect to them to live a better life? In this episode we’ll explore the four voices inside us… and see how some serve us and others don’t.

SHOW NOTES

Quotes...

“Our mind can become a great ally or a sinister foe. You must listen to the voice inside your head. At times, you may hear many voices at once. Practice silence of mind. And try not to listen to all the voices in your head. But listen to the one voice that really matters. The one that is telling you to stay calm.” ― Avijeet Das

Take-aways…

1.       The ego voice is not the best part of you. Learn to recognize when there are two voices in your head and recognize which one is the wisdom voice. Listen to that one instead of the ego voice. Practice doing this and your confidence will grow.

2.       When you meditate regularly, your wisdom voice will become more dominant, and you will start to notice your intuition voice increase.

3.       The Soul voice is possible when you attain high levels of self-mastery… when you’ve pushed back the ego voice, when your confidence has grown, and you’ve allowed yourself to be at peace inside of yourself.

If you could be a serene Soul or an anxious being, which would you choose? In this episode I offer a tool I use to add more happiness to each day. I call it The Magic Mix.

SHOW NOTES

QUOTES

“Happiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings. And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lax about maintaining it. You must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever…” ― Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love

“There is no path to happiness. Happiness is the path.” - The Buddha

“If you want to be happy, do not dwell in the past, do not worry about the future, focus on living fully in the present.” ― Roy T. Bennett, author of The Light in the Heart

"Happiness is a quality of the soul...not a function of one's material circumstances." – Aristotle

“True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future, not to amuse ourselves with either hopes or fears but to rest satisfied with what we have… The greatest blessings of mankind are within us and within our reach. A wise man is content with his lot, whatever it may be, without wishing for what he has not.” - Seneca

“I felt my lungs inflate with the onrush of scenery—air, mountains, trees, people. I thought, "This is what it is to be happy.”

― Sylvia Plath

Each of us sees the world from our own unique perspective. But how can we know if our perspective is right? How can we be sure the way we see the world isn’t flawed? At times, it may even be steering us in the wrong way. Today we look at projection. When we understand it, we can use it to become a better version of ourselves.
Today I’m going to talk about projection… how it is developed in our lives, how it influences our beliefs, and interactions, and how to overcome it.

“Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people.” - Carl Jung

“We serial killers are your sons, we are your husbands, we are everywhere.” -Ted Bundy

“In analytical psychology, the shadow (also known as id, shadow aspect, or shadow archetype) includes everything in the unconscious mind, good or bad. Another definition in shadow psychology is that the shadow might include only the part of the personality that you don’t want to identify as part of yourself but is still a part of your unconscious mind. This darker side of your personality holds everything your conscious mind can’t admit about itself.” -Jung

FACT CHECK:

  1. At one point in the podcast I refer to the Tewksbury Institute as a “mental hospital.” That is not completely accurate. The Tewksbury Institute was first established as an Alms House (or home for the poor). By the time Annie Sullivan arrived, they had added a metal hospital as well as traditional hospital. According to Wikipedia, only 33% of the residents at this point were the poor. The rest were mental or traditional hospital residents. Annie was both poor and required some medical interventions (for her vision).

  2. Snopes.com claims the Story of Annie Sullivan at the Tewksbury Institute is partially wrong. This is partly because the story is often told that Helen received the Nobel Prize, when she in fact was only nominated for it. She was nominated in 1954 and 1958 but did not receive the award. After some research, I’ve concluded that there is enough evidence of the truth of the story of the floor maid at Tewksbury that it is at least probably. Helen’s great grand-niece confirmed the story in an article at HelenKeller.org. I found another article, which was written by a nurse who heard the Tewksbury story from Dr Frank Mayfield. He is said to be the man who ran into the floor maid at the Institute. There is no record that either Annie or Helen ever told this story themselves.

This is the final episode in the history series on The Soul. We started in episode one… 70,000 years ago, then moved forward, through the human journey. We saw how The Soul has always been a part of our history. And how -long before the development of written language- we always knew there was more to us than the body. We saw people fight to preserve the right to connect to the deepest part of themselves. And we saw what well-known philosophers had to say about it.

In this episode we’ll hear from some of the greatest minds of the past 100 years -and hear what they had to say about The Soul.

SHOW NOTES:

Quotes:

"This is what is sad when one contemplates human life, that so many live out their lives in quiet lostness...they live, as it were, away from themselves and vanish like shadows. Their immortal souls are blown away (like dust), and they are not disquieted by the question of its immortality, because they are already disintegrated before they die." – Kierkegaard

“People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own souls. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.” - Jung

“There's no coming to consciousness without pain.” -Jung

"So, I had to speak to my Soul as to something remote and unknown that does not exist by me but by whom I exist.” -Jung

“It is very difficult to elucidate this [cosmic religious] feeling to anyone who is entirely without it. . . The religious geniuses of all ages have been distinguished by this kind of religious feeling, which knows no dogma and no God conceived in man's image; so that there can be no church whose central teachings are based on it ... In my view, it is the most important function of art and science to awaken this feeling and keep it alive in those who are receptive to it." -Einstein

"I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness. We cannot get behind consciousness. Everything that we talk about, everything that we regard as existing, postulates consciousness." - Max Planck

“… We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent Mind. This Mind is the matrix of all matter.” ― Planck

“Of course it is quite obvious that we're all going to die, and this is the sad finale of everything, but never-the-less, there is something in us that doesn't believe it, apparently, but this is merely a fact, a psychological fact.” -Jung

“This life of yours which you are living is not merely a piece of this entire existence, but in a certain sense the whole; only this whole is not so constituted that it can be surveyed in one single glance. This, as we know, is what the Brahmins [wise men or priests in the Vedic tradition] express in that sacred, mystic formula which is yet really so simple and so clear; tat tvam asi, this is you. Or, again, in such words as “I am in the east and the west, I am above and below, I am this entire world.” - Erwin Schrödinger

"After the conversations about Indian philosophy, some of the ideas of Quantum Physics that had seemed so crazy suddenly made much more sense.” – Schrödinger

"I am endeavoring to see God through service to humanity, for I know that God is neither in heaven nor down below, but in everyone" -Gandhi

It was a time of massive change in Europe. In the 1700s the Renaissance was coming to a close the Age of Enlightenment was beginning. And one aspect of the age of enlightenment was open skepticism. People started to drop any sort of blind faith they may have once had, and they questioned authority more openly and with more intensity. They started looking for truth and proof, before granting belief. This was partly due to hundreds of years of abuse by the Catholic church.

This skepticism overflowed into the spiritual beliefs of people. And the way people wrote -and talked- about the Soul began to change. Martin Luther made a bold move, which launched a massive movement across Europe and further. Freedom of religion was becoming a rallying cry... and people we're taking back the ownership of their spiritual work.

“I am accused of mysticism. I do not, however, hold myself responsible for the fact that man has, everywhere and always, spontaneously developed religious forms of expression, and that the human psyche from time immemorial has been shot through with religious feelings and ideas. Whoever cannot see this aspect of the human psyche is blind, and whoever chooses to explain it away, or to "enlighten" it away, has no sense of reality.”
