In this episode of the Love, Laugh, Let it Go podcast, I hang out with Dr. Rebekah Tennyson, a clinical psychologist from the UK and an Enneagram 2 who loves music, coffee, pastries, and Disney movies. Even though Rebekah and I have never met, chatting with her feels just like catching up with an old friend.
We talk about the struggles women face when trying to take up space without being labeled "difficult." Rebekah shares her journey of doing what was expected of her and how she fit into those neat little boxes society loves. We dig into people-pleasing and how she’s working on breaking free from that habit.
Friendships come up a lot in our chat, too. We talk about how they evolve from childhood to adulthood and the importance of being intentional with our connections. Rebekah reminds us that some people are in our lives for a reason, a season, or forever, and keeping those relationships strong takes effort and communication.
As an Enneagram 2, Rebekah knows all about caring too much about what others think. She opens up about learning to sit with the discomfort of not being liked by everyone and finding self-acceptance. We also touch on joy and happiness, and how we shouldn’t feel guilty about feeling joyful.
We share a laugh about how wild it is to be adults with real responsibilities. Rebekah points out that it’s okay to cancel plans or not be your usual self without having to explain every detail. People aren’t entitled to know everything going on in your life. We also discuss the frustration of feeling like other people are allowed to do certain things, but you aren't.
One of my favorite parts of our chat is when Rebekah quotes Anne Lamott: "Expectations are resentments waiting to happen." We talk about the differences between expectations, hopes, and needs, and how managing them can help in our relationships.
Towards the end, we talk about therapy and then things get really silly. We had a blast, but just a heads up: proceed with caution because we go off the rails a bit.
Join us for an episode filled with laughs, deep insights, and a heartfelt conversation about living authentically and cherishing our friendships. You won't want to miss it!

On today's episode, we're talking all about consuming alcohol. We're going all the way back to high school to tee this story up too. Personally, I've never loved it, however we live in a society where drinking is normal and encouraged.
I talk about the role alcohol has played in my romantic relationships, how it's impacted my day-to-day and what I feel like I'm missing.
Personally, I have probably consumed alcohol 5 days or less this year.
No matter your preference, if you consume responsibly, can we agree to only care about what's in our own cup?

Today, we're chatting about something we all deal with: worrying about what others think. Let's dive into why it's okay to ignore those doubts and keep chasing after what you want.
We've all had moments when someone's quick opinion made us second-guess ourselves. But you know what? Those thoughts only last a few seconds, and they don't define us.
Think about it: How many times have you wanted something so badly, and despite what others said, you went for it anyway? Sure, it might have taken a bit longer, but you got there in the end, right? That's what counts.
And let's talk about criticism. Instead of letting it bring you down, why not use it to your advantage? Take those negative comments and turn them into motivation to be even better.
Remember, you're SO worthy of living a life you're RIDICULOUSLY happy with and I'm cheering you on every step of the way.

In this episode, I reflect on the significant changes that have unfolded over the past three years since the start of this podcast. From divorce to relocation from Maine to Florida, I share the journey through challenging relationships and dissatisfaction with my job.
I discuss the experience of entering into an emotionally and mentally challenging relationship, moving in hastily, and navigating through uncertain territory, relying on the kindness of coworkers and friends I had just made.
Despite the obstacles, this period spurred personal growth. Through self-reflection, I learned to recognize my own patterns and set boundaries. This journey led me to the life I envisioned when I began three years ago.
Through everything, I've emerged stronger. With clarity, I transitioned into a fulfilling job and a healthy relationship. Though the journey was challenging, it ultimately led to transformation and the realization of many of my aspirations.
If you're feeling alone navigating a similar path, know you are not alone. Change takes time, and while the path may be winding, it can lead to profound growth and fulfillment. You are SO worthy of living a life you are RIDICULOUSLY happy with.

Today's episode is about using your time intentionally! As adults, we have to manage responsibilities, friendships, relationships, hobbies, jobs and so much more that it can seem utterly overwhelming at times...like seriously, when do we sleep? But if we did an audit of how we spend our time, what would we find? In my case, hi, Lindsey, your host, I spend way too much time scrolling Instagram consuming content that does nothing for me but distract me. Sure, it's mindless, but it's holding me back. In today's episode, we talk all about how embracing who you really are (in my case, a total weirdo) can lead to living as the most happy, free version of yourself. Come along as I recap the last 5 years (in about 2 minutes and 20 seconds), the stress that was felt, the survival mode that was lived and how once I felt empowered and safe, the game changed. Today's episode, I talk all about the runDisney Princess Half Marathon Weekend. If you've been a listener of the show for a while, you already know how much I have ABSOLUTELY loved this weekend. This weekend has been one of my absolute favorite weekends of the entire year. This year however, I left feeling differently.
Today, we talk all about how it's okay if something that once brought you so much joy and lit you up no longer does that and how it's okay to move on to different things.
I also promise that even though this all sounds like doom and gloom, it absolutely isn't.

Last week, I was having dinner with a good friend and we were chatting about the fear and anxiety that comes from asking questions that you may not get the answer you want or trying something new that you may fail at. Since my brain likes to sometimes make analogies, I came up with this as a little pep talk. There's two zones- the "control zone" and the "joy zone." As you listen, please remember you're taking advice from someone who runs her vehicle until she's literally praying that she makes it to the gas station before she runs out of gas...ooops! Anyways, I love you and I hope you live in the joy zone more than you live in the control zone.

I don't know about you, but sometimes when things get hard, I avoid dealing with them instead of confronting them head on. In today's episode, I talk about the why behind my actions (or lack there of) and also give three recent examples of when confronting things turned out better than expected.
Confrontation doesn't have to be scary, and in fact, often leads to clarity, trust, closeness and new opportunities.

Buckle up because this week's episode is a little sassy.
When your personal mantra is "let it go" (so much so that it's tattooed on your wrist) and it's been 10 years since the movie Frozen was released, you make a list of all the beliefs you had to let go of to get yourself on the road to who you're meant to be.
Since this is a podcast all about letting go of the opinions of others, perfectionism and timelines to live the life you've dreamed of, naturally, this list includes a lot about letting go of those things.

On Sunday, I ran my fifth half marathon and it didn't quite go the way I wanted. Truthfully, I thought about not even showing up because the weather was expected to be hot and humid (spoiler alert: it was). Today's episode is about embracing the present moment for what it is and celebrating all stages.

I'm back after 2 weeks off...talking about a heavier topic - depression. I've just recently come to admit to myself that I'm experiencing depression. I never thought I'd find myself here, especially when so much is going right, but events in the last year and a half of my life have really made me reflect and realize certain patterns I've found myself caught up in. This week's episode we're really chatting all about this feeling of needing and present as a perfect person and trying to be everything to everyone.
WHO would you be if you didn't live in fear of judgement? What would you say? What would you do?
What would happen if you pulled back the curtain and lived more authentically as you?

The title of this week's episode hopefully speaks for itself, however, there are so many things that we've done in our day-to-day lives that seem like no big deal because they've become second nature to us. Whether that being working tirelessly to achieve something, being stuck in a rut for a while and continuously working to get out of it, or something else, when things take time, sometimes it doesn't seem like something worth celebrating. A previous version of yourself would be so proud of you now, so celebrate, allow yourself to be proud, and share those things with those around you!

Somehow it's been a full year since I packed up by vehicle in Maine and started driving to Florida with my dad and Jules (the cutest mini doodle you've ever seen) to begin a new chapter in life.
The past year has been tumultuous, hard, scary, and difficult. It's also been full of adventure, excitement, and new experiences. This episode is a reflection of the good, the bad and the very ugly of the last 365 days. It's a reflection of how we grow through our experiences and how quickly life can change. Everything in life is subject to change.
I debated whether or not to talk about the topics, but I have found healing in hearing other people's stories and if I can give someone that experience, the fear of what others may think outweigh any fears I have.

I'm tired, I haven't slept much in the last 2 weeks, but I missed you all- so here we are! Mostly catching you up on the last couple weeks of adventures, sharing some hopefully funny stories, and encouraging you to say "yes" to things to hopefully put you on the path to becoming the woman you were always meant to be!

Timelines serve some purpose, but I don't believe they really serve a purpose in how we live our lives. Timelines are created by a version of ourself that no longer exists, so WHY are we chasing the picture-perfect life that was created by someone who doesn't know as much as we do now? Weird, right?
Today, like I have before, I'm talking all about my previous timeline and how I'm so grateful like didn't turn out the way I planned. It's okay to grieve a former life, but the future holds so much more!

Another honest episode! If you feel like you're losing yourself, or you feel like you've lost yourself, I've been there, and I empathize with you! It can feel isolating, scary, shameful, and a accompanied with a whole slew of other emotions. When this podcast first started in April 2021, I was the healthiest, happiest version of myself after YEARS of work. Those years seemingly went down the drain, and come December, I felt like I'd lost myself. Sharing parts of the story of how I went about finding myself again and also disclosing my list of 4 things I won't tolerate in any type for relationship - romantic or platonic- moving forward. You are the company you keep, and given my personal experiences, I feel these 4 things will help maintain my own happiness and mental health moving forward.

Hi friends! You may have noticed the unexpected hiatus that took place with the release of new episodes. The past 6 months or so have been incredibly difficult, and 26 days ago, with the support of family and friends, I made the decision to leave a relationship that was no longer serving me. Admittedly, despite everything that happened, it's one of the most difficult things I've ever done. In today's episode, I'm talking about it. I've experienced some of the lowest lows and highest highs, and I want you to know if you're going through something similar YOU ARE NOT ALONE and you are so much stronger than you can even begin to imagine.

"Who you are becoming is more important than who you've been." -Unknown
Came across this quote on Instagram (IG: @soleoado) and it was a reminder that I didn't know I needed.
So often, we hang on to pieces of our past and let those things hold us back from becoming the person we want to be. We let previous embarrassments, regrets and questionable decisions cause anxiety in our life.
But guess what, we're human, and we aren't the same person today that we were yesterday.
Breaking this down with humor, sorry for any undesirable imagery. Weird moods create weird content, I am who I am.

Stay tuned for a fun community building announcement that will be made on next week's episode.
Yes, okay, this is another episode that is probably more like a journal entry. Today, Lindsey is talking all about having difficulty expressing and allowing herself to feel emotions, and being called out - also admitting to being a hypocrite. With that, know that it is completely okay, and honestly, probably completely normal to know what needs to happen, but struggling to actually do it.
Emotions, therapy, boundaries- all the fun.

Alright, today's episode is a little self-reflecty (which I'm fully aware is not a word...)
Today, we're talking about what holds us back, how life can be frustrating and how to push through. Honestly, if I were good at consistently journaling, this might just be something I'd have written - and though it's not juicy, it's a reminder I needed to hear today, and maybe you do too.

Life changes and life changes quickly. That can lead to us feeling super overwhelmed, wondering what's next and when there are a lot of changes at once, possibly even frustration and questioning if and when there will ever be a point in life when we're feeling complacent, not wanting to make any changes.
Self-help and personal development books are great, but the authors of those books have no lived life exactly the way you have, so as helpful as those boos can be, they can't be a perfect roadmap as to how you should live you life- cue opinions from the well-meaning people in your life. Talk about information overload and muddying down what YOU want for yourself.
Remember girl, there is NO guidebook on how to live YOUR life!

Welcome to ONE YEAR of the 'Love, Laugh, Let it go' podcast!
Today, Lindsey reflects on the past year, why the podcast started and how connection with other humans has been the best part of this whole podcast. YOU do not need to go through anything alone, and there's a very HIGH chance someone else is experiencing similar things as you and can offer support. Put yourself out there, connect with other humans and live a life you can be ridiculously happy with!

After a week away, it's time for Episode 44. Today's episode starts off with a typical Lindsey story for laughs (hopefully), but then talks all about chaos and overwhelm. From there, we go in to an analogy for life about how we're all broken shells and why that's actually really beautiful. Parts of us are perfect, parts of us are rough, and parts of us are always going to be a work in progress. We're scattered bits of who we are all over the place. A little crazy? Maybe.

Also, have trouble expressing and handling emotions? Let's talk about it.

Good news friends, I'm out of the funk I was in....
We're back, we're feeling good, we're feeling inspired and talking all about how the only person you need to be better than is yourself. While this likely something you've heard before, we're giving a real life example as to why this is true. When you're comparing yourself to others, especially strangers, you're doing yourself such a disservice because you don't know any of their history or their goals, however you do know your history and goals. You also know who you were yesterday, and you know who you want to be tomorrow. Let's break this down as we work to live lives we are RIDICULOUSLY happy with.

Calling all chronic people pleasers! Lindsey may call herself a "recovering people pleaser" but if we're being honest, that's a BIG work in progress. Today's episode breaks down 10 signs that you're a people pleaser and offers some tips as to how to overcome those people pleasing tendencies to live life more authentically. After all, you're so worthy of living a life you're RIDICULOUSLY happy with.

Let's face it, as people pleasers, the thought of letting others down is an actual nightmare. However, choosing what's best for you is SELFLESS and not SELFISH. Putting yourself first is the best way you can show up for yourself and the world. It won't be easy, it will be uncomfortable but I truly believe that you are worthy of living a life you are RIDICULOUSLY happy with, and that means sometimes you have to let other people down.

Two words that could change the trajectory of your life over the course of a year: "intention" and "focus." Come along on this year long journey as we stay focused and work on being intentional.

Happy New Year friends! Today's episode is all about mental health, the fact that YOU ARE NOT ALONE, how to get started with the therapy process, how to find a therapist, what people hate about therapy and what people love about therapy. Lindsey also shares her personal journey with finding a new therapist in a new area, and gives a little insight how to help someone who may be struggling with their mental health.
Ways to find a therapist:
www.betterhelp.com
www.teladoc.com
www.psychologytoday.com (Lindsey's personal favorite)
Referral from friends
Referral from primary care physician
Referral from another therapist
Insurance company website
Things to consider when finding a therapist:
Do you prefer to go to therapy in-person or are you more comfortable with a virtual format?
Do you have a gender preference when it comes to a therapist?
Is there something you need or want your therapist to specialize in?
If you do prefer in-person, how far are you willing to travel?
What are your personal goals for therapy?
If you're emailing potential therapists and aren't sure what to say, here's a short template (you can include more info about yourself or what your goals are if you're comfortable doing that):
Hi! My name is YOUR NAME and I'm hoping to schedule a therapy session with you. I can be reached at CONTACT PHONE and/or EMAIL. Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Remember, therapists are here to support you through your mental health journey and give you tools and resources to help make you successful. A good therapist will never judge you!

This is going to be the last episode of 2021, so first and foremost thank you so much for being on this podcast journey with me over the 8 months!
Today's episode is all about stepping out of your comfort zone, knowing and being okay with the fact that life changes will unlikely completely go according to plan and even if it feels overwhelming being okay with the fact that nothing is permanent and you freely make changes! You are the magic and believe that you can do anything- I promise this isn't as cheesy as it sounds, but it's Disney related (because after living in Florida for almost 2 months I finally made it to Disney! Yes, we're still on the subject of navigating change. I think this is the last we'll speak specifically to this for a while, but it's just what's been on my mind lately. Change is hard, it's rarely easy and stepping out of what's familiar takes a lot of courage. With that said, change creates growth and your growth is so important. You likely aren't the same person you were 5 years ago or 10 years ago, and that's a really good thing! So let's explore stepping in to the unfamiliar together.

Well, sometimes life just throws a bunch of little things at us that are out of our control that add up to feel like really big things. Procrastination sometimes means juicy content: Lindsey's reading a handful of journal entries from last year, a time where she felt lost, broken, unsure, but knew there was so much more to life. This led to the need to be honest and find courage to make some major life changes. Life changes quickly and you need to live your life for YOU! You deserve to be happy, and sometimes that means making others (and maybe yourself) uncomfortable. Girl, it's time to get out of your own way.
