Amanda Testini joins the podcast to share her stories and experience as a first time film director while working at the Banff Arts Centre's Opera in the 21st Century Program. Amanda Testini (she/her) is a performer, choreographer and director based on the unceded and ancestral territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. She has worked for the Arts Club, Bard on the Beach, the Cultch, Theatre Replacement, the Firehall, Vancouver Opera, the Belfry, Opera Kelowna, the Gateway, Savage Society, VACT, Carousel Theatre, shameless hussy productions, Electric Theatre Company and Axis Theatre. Amanda is a Jessie Award nominee, and a graduate of both the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts Triple Threat Program and Studio 58's Acting Program. Most recently she was a director in residence of the Yulanda M. Faris Young Artists Program. Inspired podcasts on the road continues! The immensely talented and innovative librettist and lyricist Royce Vavrek joins us to share his journey. Royce is a Canada-born, Brooklyn-based librettist and lyricist who has been called “the indie Hofmannsthal” (The New Yorker) a “Metastasio of the downtown opera scene” (The Washington Post), “an exemplary creator of operatic prose” (The New York Times), and “one of the most celebrated and sought after librettists in the world” (CBC Radio). His opera “Angel’s Bone” with composer Du Yun was awarded the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Music. We had the pleasure of working with Royce at the Banff Arts Center while creating a new film adaptation of his new opera, Proving Up. Another one for the road! Acclaimed and award winning composer, Ian Cusson joins us to share his story on the latest Podcast epsiode. Ian Cusson is a composer of art song, opera and orchestral work. Of Métis (Georgian Bay Métis Community) and French Canadian descent, his work explores Canadian Indigenous experience including the history of the Métis people, the hybridity of mixed-racial identity, and the intersection of Western and Indigenous cultures. Joel Ivany is the artistic director of Edmonton Opera, and Against the Grain Theatre in Toronto. An award winning and Juno nominated director, Joel has directed and founded multiple ground breaking operatic films such as Messiah/Complex, Savitri, Bound and was the director of the 2021 Governor General's Performing Arts Awards for CBC. Through Toronto’s premiere entertainment company – Do Dat Entertainment – Tuch has transformed his passion for dance into a thriving career. Tuch has risen to the top of his craft as a sought after dancer/ performer and choreographer known for his performance abilities & professionalism.
Tuch joined Do Dat Entertainment in 1998, and since then has performed with top musicians and enter- tainers, such as Shawn Desman, Eve & Gwen Stefani, Jully Black, Missy Elliott, and Selena Gomez. He’s worked with Sean Paul, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, and Jay-Z in music videos and commercials. In addi- tion, Tuch has appeared in numerous television/film and stage productions such as: the 2011 Much Mu- sic Awards, the Toronto International Film Festival, Luminato Festival Toronto, 2010 Olympic Torch Cer- emony, the motion picture Honey featuring Jessica Alba, the Junos, and the BET Awards.
A few highlights have been assisting Luther Brown on So You Think You Can Dance Canada, Lifetime’s 2014 biopic "Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B" & the 2015 Pan Am Opening Ceremony. Most recently, choreographer for Chinese superstar Kris Wu’s performance on the 2018 iHeartRadio MMVAS.
Currently, Tuch has choreography credits on the CBC television series “TallBoyz” (2019-2022), “The Kids In The Hall” (2022), and “Take Note” (2022) on the Family Channel.
With over 20 years of experience, Tuch is a fixture in the Toronto dance industry, having taught classes & workshops internationally, guiding and working with up-coming artists, and judging at the World Of Dance Competition 2011- 2012 & the 2017- 2018 Canada Hip Hop Dance Championship. In addition, Tuch is an Educator with the Toronto District School Board for the last 5 years, focusing on Arts education.
