One of the reasons why you might be feeling stuck or unsure of what next step to take, or if you should take any as your mind serves up all the good reasons why to remain exactly where you are and not rock the boat could be that you're lacking an inspiring and compelling career vision. Think about it, every company and famous leader has a vision, shouldn't you? Especially if you want to steer your career instead of just drifting and going where everyone else wants you to go to support their needs and desires Apple's vision is " We believe that we are on the face of the earth to make great products, and that's not changing." Nordstrom's vision is "To give customers the most compelling shopping experience possible." Shouldn't you have one? There is a great saying by Tony Gaskins "If you don't build your dream someone else will hire you to help build theirs." So I invite you dream up your career vision, what will be the key elements of it, what do you imagine, how do you feel and how does it integrate with your life, how does it become a part of your dream life? I'd love to hear what is your career vision and if you had any new AHA moments whole answering the questions? DM me on www.instagram.com/createyourbestcareer , I'd love to hear from you!

Have you ever wondered if it’s possible to love what you do, if it’s possible to feel fulfilled and fully alive about your career or are you destined to the mundane feeling days and weeks filled with feeling like it’s another day where you’re going through the motions, attending to and doing what you have to, looking forward to the segments of day where you can do what you truly want to in the evenings, weekends and vacations? Over the years I too have struggled with going in and out of believing if it’s truly possible to have a job and career where you feel excited and energized instead of dreading and suffering through the workdays. Am I just a naive dreamer or can I truly create and have it? I saw my mom working long hours, very hard, not really having any time for herself, sacrificing for her children, sacrificing her health, and at the end not earning very much money and I always wished she had an easier life. The idea about you being able to custom design your own career and day to day, like a designer or an architect came through my own journey, especially times where I felt like my own career life was feeling blah, like I was going through motions and it was feeling like I was living in black and white movie instead of a vibrant, technicolor world that my heart and soul so longed for. This is what sparked the idea to share the practices and ideas that I found most useful and transformational so you can try and apply some of them to infuse more spark in your day to day and end up custom designing your way towards looking forward to Mondays! We spend estimated 2000 hours every year (maybe a little more or less depending on how many hours a week you work), a third of your time from the 24 hours you’re given every day, and realistically , close to half or more than half of you waking hours 5 days a week working! So how can you make them more aligned with what your heart and soul are desiring to do and feel like to fully express your gifts and talents and shine your light? And it doesn’t have to be perfect, but when you do, you’re serving as a powerful example, a powerful role model for other women around you and most importantly I believe your children to show what’s possible. It’s not necessarily what you say, what school teaches or the question “Who do you want to be when you grow up” that will teach them what’s possible, it’ll be the way you live, what they observe, the energy you bring and what you model on day to day basis that they will absorb and soak up the most. This is what helps me in days where showing up for myself isn’t enough and I need a more powerful motivator. When I think about this impacting my child and family members, other girls and women, it’s like having that extra motivation, extra kick that I need to keep going and keep breaking out some of the human and my own aspects of conditioning, limited beliefs and fears! Every career journey is as unique as a fingerprint, so anything really is possible and I want you to feel empowered in custom designing your own career and success on your terms while getting to know you better through the prompts and exercises I'll share in this season's mini episodes. What I’ve found is that at the essence of being able to create a life of your dreams you have to believe it’s possible, so let’s go and dream it up! Connect with me at www.instagram.com/createyourbestcareer and DM me for a 30 min play date to solve the #1 issue in your current career and job.

Are you considering applying for a new job or know someone who is? In this episode Tiffany Flowers who brings over 20 years of working with candidates and hiring leaders shares how to build a powerful resume top to bottom! You don't want to miss these top resume tips. No more old fashioned format! Tiffany knows what works, what recruiters, and hiring leaders look for and what grabs their attention. Implement these to land more interviews and offers to choose from! 1. Have a core resume that you’ll customize based on the job you’re applying to! 2. Mirror each job description, update and move things around to closely resemble the job you’re applying to. Focus on where there is overlap. You want to zero in on and highlight experiences, skills and accomplishments that will resonate with the hiring manager, the recruiter and HR. 3. Lead with what’s relevant! Do not include everything you’ve done over your career 4. Don’t forget to also focus on what you want to do next, transferable skills and relevant accomplishments. Before adding an experience or achievement to your resume, ask yourself, even though I’ve done it and am good at it - is this something I want to keep doing going forward? Remove things you no longer care to keep doing! 5. If you have over 7 years of professional experience - leave out summer, college and high school jobs. 6. Stick to 2 pages max unless you’re a researcher and/or have citations, publications, anything that’s a must for you to convey. 7. Keep formatting simple - Calibri or Times New Roman, black and white, without fancy graphics or formatting because a) you don’t want to make the recruiter or hiring manager think too hard where to find the relevant info and how to make sense of your format. The statistic is that your resume will get 6 seconds or so before a decision is made if you go into a yes or no pile; b)unique formatting can confuse the applicant database matching and scoring mechanisms Remember - if the reader is confused, they will move on 8. Start your resume with a Branding Header, Branding Statement, and Core Capabilities. No more objective, summary and the other old fashioned structure. 9. Start your experience with the current or most recent employer and position(s), one sentence description of your role and 8-10 bullet points. And then work backwards with subsequent experiences taking up 4-5 bullets or less for each. 10. Remember the first 3/4 of your first page is the most expensive real estate, make sure this area conveys the most relevant information, grabs the readers attention and keeps them hooked! 11. Eliminate listing duplicate responsibilities for each of your jobs - for the most part mentioning it once-ideally in your current work experience if it’s relevant is enough. If you do have specific tool or program experience, you can list it a couple of times to bump up your resume with employers automated resume screen and matching mechanisms. 12. Education comes after work experience section, plus add any awards and certifications as relevant. 13.Add volunteer experiences and in most cases stay away from hobbies and interests unless there’s a good reason to include those.
