THE CHURCH IS NOT A PLACE I GO TO OR AN EVENT I ATTEND. THE CHURCH IS A MOVEMENT I’M A PART OF AND A FAMILY I BELONG TO! Matthew 16:13-18 (NLT) 13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.” 15 Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. 18 Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.
EKKLESIA = “A CALLED-OUT ASSEMBLY OR CONGREGATION.” 1 Peter 2:9 (NLT) 9 But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
Acts 1:4-8 (NLT) 4 Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before. 5 John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” 6 So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?” 7 He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
5 CHARACTERISTICS OF THE EARLY CHURCH… 1: FULLY DEVOTED Acts 4:32a (NLT) 32 All the believers were united in heart and mind
2: LIFESTYLE OF WORSHIP Romans 12:1 (MSG) 1 So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering.
3: RELATIONALLY INVESTED Hebrews 10:24-25 (NLT) 24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
4: CONTRIBUTORS NOT CONSUMERS 1 Peter 4:10 (NLT) 10 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.
Romans 12:6-8 (NLT) 6 In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. 7 If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. 8 If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.

The Big Idea: JESUS IS COMING! THE TIME IS NEAR
Revelation 22:6-20 (CSB) 6 Then he said to me, “These words are faithful and true. The Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place.” 7 “Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” 12 “Look, I am coming soon, and my reward is with me to repay each person according to his work. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. 17 Both the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” Let anyone who hears, say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come. Let the one who desires take the water of life freely. 18 I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book. 19 And if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share of the tree of life and the holy city, which are written about in this book. 20 He who testifies about these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! 21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with everyone. Amen.
THE WORDS OF JESUS CHRIST ARE FAITHFUL AND TRUE
Revelation 19:11-16 (CSB) Then I saw heaven opened, and there was a white horse. Its rider is called Faithful and True, and with justice he judges and makes war. His eyes were like a fiery flame, and many crowns were on his head. He had a name written that no one knows except himself. He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his name is called the Word of God. The armies that were in heaven followed him on white horses, wearing pure white linen. A sharp sword came from his mouth, so that he might strike the nations with it. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will also trample the winepress of the fierce anger of God, the Almighty. And he has a name written on his robe and on his thigh: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS."
The Principle of HIM being Faithful & True can be applied throughout the entire Bible.

WHAT JESUS CAME TO DO: 1: PREACH GOOD NEWS TO THE POOR Matthew 5:3-6 (NLT) 3 “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. 4 God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth. 6 God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied. Luke 5:29-32 (NLT) 29 Later, Levi held a banquet in his home with Jesus as the guest of honor. Many of Levi’s fellow tax collectors and other guests also ate with them. 30 But the Pharisees and their teachers of religious law complained bitterly to Jesus’ disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with such scum?” 31 Jesus answered them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. 32 I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent.” 2: PROCLAIM RELEASE TO THE CAPTIVE John 8:34 (NLT) 34 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin.” Romans 6:5-8, 16-18 (NLT) 5 Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. 6 We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. 7 For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. 8 And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with him….16 Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living. 17 Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have given you. 18 Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living. 3: OPEN THE EYES OF THE BLIND 2 Corinthians 4:4 (NLT) 4 Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God. Isaiah 9:2 (NLT) 2 The people who walk in darkness will see a great light. For those who live in a land of deep darkness, a light will shine. John 8:12 (NLT) 12 Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” 4: SET FREE THE OPPRESSED Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT) 28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” 1 Peter 1:18-19 (NLT) 18 For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. 19 It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. WHAT DO YOU NEED JESUS TO DO FOR YOU? THE BIG IDEA: JESUS IS THE ANSWER YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IN LIFE.
WHO Jesus came for and WHY Jesus came: Jesus came to give HOPE to the hopeless. The poor physically. The poor spiritually. God has a dream for your life!
1 Timothy 2:4 (AMP) Who (GOD) desires all people to be saved and come to the knowledge and recognition of the truth."
Psalm 42:5 (NLT) “Why am I so discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise Him~my Savior and my God!”
Matthew 11:28 “Jesus says: Come to Me, all of you who are weary and loaded with burdens, and I will give you rest.”
Our HOPE has a Name attached to it: JESUS!
Jesus came to HEAL the brokenhearted.
Broken in this world. Numerous things have broken us in this world: Loss of a spouse Loss of a child Loss of a dream Loss of a job Failures in life Disappointments Rejection You do not have to be an outsider: “In Christ” you are members of God's family. Ephesians 2:19 (NLT) “So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family.”
Our God is HEALER: Psalm 147:3 (NLT) “He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.” Jesus came to RELEASE captives.
Self imposed prisons of: Addictions Mental strongholds Destructive thoughts Lies
John 8:34 & 36 (NLT) “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin...So if the SON sets you free, you are truly free.”
Jesus came to REVEAL God to the world. Luke 4:18 “Jesus said:… I've come to recover the sight of the blind…” Spiritual Blindness
Social Media Question: Who is Jesus?
A good man A story book character A peace loving hippy socialist The best con man Life Santa A great teacher
2 Corinthians 4:4 (NLT) “Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don't believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don't understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.”
Some are misguided in their blindness Some are intellectually blind Some are blinded by anger
Jesus came to PURCHASE your freedom.
Luke 4:18 “And that the oppressed be set free, and that the time of the Lord's favor has come.”
The YEAR OF JUBILEE - the bottom line Jesus was saying: “I'm here to pay or cancel your debts.”
Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death (the cost, the payment, the debt of sin is death. Spiritual death = separation from God.) but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our LORD.”
1 Peter 1:18-19 (NKJV) “Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver and gold, from you aimless conduct received by your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ , as a lamb without blemish and without spot.”
Jesus paid our debt that we could never ever pay! Acts 10:34-35a (NLT) “The Peter replied, I see very clearly that God shows no favoritism. In every nation He accepts those who fear Him…” Romans 10:13 (NKJV) “Everyone who calls on the Name of The Lord shall be saved.”
Action Step: Receive the healing that Jesus has for you! And let's represent the real Jesus to the world!

Matthew 7: 1-6 NKJV Judge not, that you may not be judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, Let me remove the speck from your eye; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye. Do not give what is holy to dogs; nor cast pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces. The Big Idea: God has a better life for you than you have for yourself. TO JUDGE OR NOT TO JUDGE? Judge not, that you be not judged. V1 Do not “judge” hypocritically, with an attitude that tears others down in order to build yourself up. This is not a statement against all critical thinking; it’s a call to discernment. GET THE PLANK OUT. Judge yourself before you judge others Jesus is forbidding faultfinding while assuming the role of supreme judge in regard to the sins of others. “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.” V6 Dogs & Pigs? 1 Cor. 11:31 “For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged.” WHAT IS CORRECT JUDGEMENT? 2 Timothy 4:2 “Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” We are to speak the truth in love. Eph. 4:15God’s truth will set you free: Ps. 119:160 The entirety of Your word is truth… John 14:6 I am the Way, the Truth and the Life … John 8:32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. This is not political. It’s Spiritual & Biblical. “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes…” Romans 1:16 Romans 1: 18 - 32 1 Corinthians 6: 1-10 It’s All Sin: “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23Two Timely Topics Homosexuality is sin. The Biblical view of marriage is between a man and a woman. Gen. 2:24 & 27 KJV “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” "He made them male and female … " Matthew 19:4-6 Action Step: We judge with compassion, from the perspective that we’ve all been there and done that! “But such were some of you but you were washed, you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” 1 Cor. 6:11 NKJV **************

The Big Idea: Where your treasure is, there your heart (your wishes and desires-everything you center your life on) will be also.
Where are you investing? Pastor Ryan of Morning Star Fellowship-Pennsburg Campus Digs into Matthew 6:19-24 and o0ffers three illustrations and practical applications on how and what to invest in:
EARTHLY TREASURE = temporary, wears down with time, can be taken, here today, gone tomorrow ETERNAL TREASURE = outlasts your life, held safe in heaven for eternity, a reward from God that cannot be lost or taken away!
1 Timothy 6:17-19 (NLT) 17 Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. 18 Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. 19 By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.
Luke 12:15-21 (NLT) 15 Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.” 16 Then he told them a story: “A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops. 17 He said to himself, ‘What should I do? I don’t have room for all my crops.’ 18 Then he said, ‘I know! I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then I’ll have room enough to store all my wheat and other goods. 19 And I’ll sit back and say to myself, “My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!”’ 20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’ 21 “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.”
James 4:4 (NLT) 4 You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.

The Lord's prayer: A Prayer of Connection from the Upside Down Kingdom sermon series. Did you know the Lord's Prayer, or Our Father, is a perfect prayer and is designed for us to truly and wholly connect with God? Join Pastor John Decker of Morning Star Fellowship in Quakertown, PA as he breaks down the Lord's Prayer and reminds us that because God loves us, even with all of our imperfections, we can connect with Him.
Prayer can be tricky. It isn't meant to be but us as people made it that way. Some people only pull out prayer as an emergency...a last minute Hail Mary pass hoping it will be heard and answered. But that isn't what prayer is really about. Pastor Ryan DeFrain shares that prayer is our connection to God. Jesus showed us exactly how to be closer to the Father and taught us many ways to pray.
