Crypto, unless you have lived under a rock for the last four years you’ve heard of cryptocurrency. It might have been from your cousin Sid trying to explain the blockchain at Thanksgiving, possibly your favorite celebrity was promoting a crypto coin on Instagram, or you heard your friends made money with dogecoin during COVID. Personally the first time I heard about Bitcoin I was taking too long to graduate from college. If I had taken some time to read more into the details of blockchain maybe I would have taken a different path or invested early on. That’s why my guest Alex Leishman, CEO of River Financial, is more interesting than me. Alex has been hooked to Bitcoin since 2013. His firm only focuses only on financial services for Bitcoin and their lightning network is essential for the Bitcoin wallets supplied to citizens in El Salvador.
When my dad was in his twenties he decided to buy his own motorcycle. He’s the type of guy who tries to assemble his Ikea furniture before reading the instructions, so you can imagine how this went. On his first ride he proceeded to fall and break both of his arms. So, growing up, any idea of myself getting a motorcycle was met with strong resistance. And, that’s why my next guest is more interesting than me. Bridget McCutchens has been around motorcycles all her life. She’s already taken multiple long trips to Baltimore and New York from her home in Northern Wisconsin. She is currently attempting to be the youngest to circumnavigate the world by motorcycle. The trip can last more than a year and take at least 24,000 miles of riding.

The Iditarod, is an annual long-distance sled dog race run in early March spanning nearly 1,000 miles of Alaskan wilderness. Every year the race starts in Anchorage and ends in Nome, Alaska. Teams often race through blizzards causing whiteout conditions, sub-zero temperatures and gale-force winds which can cause the wind chill to reach −100 °F. The Iditarod is regarded as a symbolic link to the early history of the state and is connected to many traditions commemorating the legacy of dog mushing. The Iditarod began in 1973 as an event to test the best sled dog mushers and teams but evolved into today's highly competitive race. This years race marked the 50th anniversary.
This week I talk to two of those mushers. Twins Anna and Kristy Berington who have competed 24 total races. We talk about the path it took to start mushing, what drives them during races, and what keeps them coming back every year.

This week I spoke with the inventor of cookies, Lou Montulli. And, I’m not talking about the cookies that come from elves in trees. I’m talking about the web cookies that have become a billion dollar advertising tool. However, when 23-year old Lou Montulli invented cookies at Netscape, a company that built one of the internet's first widely used browsers, he intended to revolutionize the way that users interact with the internet. Before cookies, internet sites had no memory of visits, which means there was no such thing as shopping carts or user accounts on the internet. In this episode, Lou talks about what made him become a web developer and how cookies and the numerous other advances that he helped develop at Netscape have changed overtime. The overall message of this episode “Getting a job that doesn’t suck.”
