Summary: In this episode of Love Life Live Well, host Emma Cartmell sits down with Patryk Kapelinski, head sommelier at Carden Park, to delve into the world of wine. They discuss Patryk’s love for life, the role of a sommelier, the importance of exercise for well-being, and his journey into the wine industry. Patryk shares his passion for Italian wines, his thoughts on ordering wine from a sommelier, tips for tasting wine, and his views on emerging wine regions like Eastern Europe. Get ready to discover new flavours, embrace the wine experience, and challenge your wine preferences.

About Carden Park:The vineyard at Carden Park is well known as Cheshire’s largest commercial vineyard. Its story dates back to 1988 when the majority of vines were planted. In 2008 the‚ 4,000 vines were reinstated at the estate and much care was taken to grow them to their former glory.

After lots of hard work and much nurturing, the three acre vineyard is able to produce up to 6,000 bottles of Carden Park Estate Reserve sparkling wine each year from the two grape varieties grown, Seyval Blanc and Pinot Noir.

Each year, in October or early November, the grapes are harvested by our estates team. Working with HalfPenny Green winemakers of South Staffordshire, the grapes are then put through a fermentation process to produce the bottles of Carden Park Estate Reserve.

If you would like to try a glass of Carden Park Estate Reserve sparkling wine, it is available throughout the hotel restaurants and bars. Alternatively, bottles are available to purchase and take home as a souvenir.

In 2021, our fine dining restaurant opened its doors, inheriting the name ‘The Vines’, inspired by our vineyard. As well as the unforgettable cuisine prepared by our award-winning chefs, you will have the opportunity to sample an incredible selection of wines, including our Carden Estate Reserve, during your dining experience at The Vines.

  • Those three things are top of my list for healthy living, good food, plenty of sleep and relaxation exercise as well. - Sally
  • So the oil that is extracted from that plant is bottled, and that is what your essential oil basically is. So depending on what benefits that plant has, is what benefits the essential oil has. - Sally
  • If anybody wants to delve into the world of aromatherapy, lavender is a really good one to start with because it's good for so many things. Certainly relaxation, certainly sleep, but mosquito bites, burns and skin discomfort. - Sally
  • And we use essential oils on a daily basis. I use them in my skincare routine. - Sally
  • I would say if you want to get into the world of essential oils, you need to speak to a qualified aromatherapist and you need to make sure that the brand that you are using is good quality essential oils. - Sally

  • So clutter is a sneaky stressor that has all of these physical and mental ramifications. - Lisa
  • None of this really takes hours or even minutes, but are just all these little stumbling blocks that in our busy lives, with our lack of patience is enough for us to say, forget it. - Lisa
  • Put all your emails in the order of who they're from. Then all the ones from, for example, your supermarket will be together and you can just highlight them all and just delete them all in one go. - Lisa

  • What is actually worthwhile to people and what is the new value set, especially when we look at generational work between the millennials and Gen Z, those priorities have shifted dynamically. - Zachary

Key Takeaways:

  • 914,000 people are suffering with work-related stress, anxiety, and depression at the moment. And that has gone up from 822,000 last year. - Claire
  • It’s about getting into workplaces and really helping companies change culture, helping business owners to stop working 60 hour weeks, and helping professionals to get back on track in a more manageable way and get that rest and recovery into our lives. - Claire
  • We still have that view of, but I am functioning on some level, so therefore I must be okay. It's still kind of that ingrained mindset. - Claire
  • When you learn a new thing, a new habit, a new skill, like you learn to drive a car or ride a bike, you're having to think about absolutely every single part of that process, whereas when it becomes an autopilot, you just don’t think about it. - Claire
  • So you have an old habit, a new habit, an old habit. And what that does is it helps your brain and gives it a bit of conditioning, a bit like a coding system. It helps your brain to adapt to that habit naturally. - Claire

  • Trying to find the positives in difficult situations
  • The elements of grief that Fiona believes have contributed to her life
  • Opening up the dialogue around grief and people’s experiences
  • Wanting to make the event sector a safe space where people feel their voices are heard

Key Takeaways:

  • Everybody's journey with grief is and will be totally different. And there isn't a wrong journey that you can have with grief. - Fiona
  • I would say it's about being very responsible in making sure that you are grieving and not sort of suppressing it. - Fiona
  • It is okay to be happy because grief is part of life. It's an expression of love and we can't have life without grief. So it's okay to still feel those emotions of happiness again. - Fiona
  • There's a lot of societal norms that tell us one, we shouldn't talk about grief or two, it should be a big tragedy, but the reality is all of us will lose someone. So grieving is a shared space, a shared conversation that we'll all experience and we can all speak about. It would be different for us all. But one of the most important things is that we talk about it. - Fiona
  • So it's the generosity of giving the griever the space to just say anything they need and to be a listener at that moment. - Fiona
  • A statistic from the grief conference said 85% of people say they are scared to talk to people who are dealing with grief because they don't know what to say and they don't want to upset them. And yet 90% of people grieving do want to talk. - Fiona

  • The balance when scripting of going into detail, but also being open to possibilities when you don’t know how something will go
  • How scripting can be used as a tool for achieving things not just in your personal life, but also in business
  • Beth’s advice for people wanting to get started with scripting.

Key Takeaways:

  • Scripting is what I'm describing in terms of that written form of visualisation. It’s that ability to take back control of your life, to get really intentional about what it is that you want to happen in your life, and to start to think about what is important to you and start to get really clear on what you would like to happen. - Beth
  • If we want to try to create a new life for ourselves, we have to create those conditions through visualisation. That is, how we would experience it. Because our mind cannot tell the difference between that which is imagined and that which is real. - Beth
  • When we're journaling, we're connecting to that part of us that knows what it wants, that knows what joy is and what our deepest, darkest desires are and yet we're not always connected to that rationally. - Beth
  • If you think about your notebook or your journals as your new best friend, where your seedling ideas and thoughts are that you wanna bring into fruition. - Beth
  • I believe what we're doing is we're taking action, but we're also co-creating with the universe. And actually the next thing that we need to be doing once we've done these scripts is to take action and start to do things that align with that vision. - Beth
  • I think sometimes people let life pass them by, and actually we wanna be more in control and have more intention around what it is that we want in our life rather than just letting life happen to us.- Beth

  • To become your true, authentic self or a new version of yourself, it doesn't mean that the old version of you is broken, or isn't worth anything, but it's about how do you leave the bits of you behind that are not as helpful or are not supporting you or enabling you to be the person that you really want to become. - Nicola
  • When you lose stuff, you think, oh, I will choose what I'm gonna put back into my life. - Nicola
  • The final chapter of the book is called Make It Stick, which is about how once you've made these changes, you've done the mental work, you know you've changed your behaviour and you know you're moving in a different direction, how do you make it stick? - Nicola
  • There's a definition in the book of what a peer group is, but Jim Rohn is the man who says that you become like the five people that you spend the most time with. So choose them wisely is my advice. - Nicola
