Aliens in the Mind started life as an outline for Doctor Who. Although not commissioned for the show Robert Holmes was asked to develop the idea for Radio 4; however, work commitments meant that the scripts were ultimately written by Rene Basilico based on Holmes' original vision. Unlike the Doctor Who 'talking books' and stable-mate 'The Quatermass Memoirs,' which are also due for release on July 3rd, this is a full-blown sci-fi radio drama starring kings of horror Vincent Price and Peter Cushing. Investing the death of a friend, Curtis Lark (Price) and John Cornelius (Cushing) discover the presence of a new race of humans on a remote Scottish island. The key to the mystery seems to be a local young girl who Lark and Cornelius resolve to take to London for tests, where they discover she may not be the only mutant to have left the island...Split over six episodes and running almost three hours, the plot moves at a cracking pace - it seemed like no time had passed between inserting the first CD and reaching the end of episode two. Relying heavily on the talents of Price and Cushing, this is a gripping and atmospheric drama that owes more than a passing nod to the US TV series The Invaders and, despite being almost 30 years old, feels reasonably modern in style and content. Highlighting the original weekly broadcast format, each episode starts with a recap of the events of the previous installment and a reprise. Rather sensibly, chapter points have been arranged in such a way that these form a self-contained track making them easy to skip if listening to more than one episode at a time. The initial three titles in the range seem to have been chosen to appeal to Doctor Who fans, and this title should appeal to those who already listen to the many Big Finish ranges.

The Spectre of Tappington tells the story of a haunted house. In generations past, the owner of the house had a guest that mysteriously disappeared one night. Rumour has it that the room this guest was staying in still gets nightly visitations from the one who mysteriously disappeared. Now, the room is only used when there are no other guest rooms available. Present Day: Charles Seaforth is visiting his cousins, and they unfortunately do not have any guest rooms other than the haunted room. So in what way does this ghostly apparition manifest itself? By stealing his pants every night, of course.

Weird Circle (1943-45) aired “The Feast of Redgauntlet” on January 15, 1944 as the 27th of its 78 episodes. Weird Cicle was produced and transcribed in the New York City studios of RCA with enough scripts for two seasons, each season comprised of 39 episodes, for a total of 78 shows. It was then licensed for syndication to NBC and the Mutual Broadcasting Network for use in their markets across the country and in Canada, to air at a time of each station’s choosing. Thus, it has been almost impossible to trace the very first-ever airing of any given episode (and many were re-aired into the 1950s). This particular episode aired from WGN in Chicago, one of the Mutual Broadcasting Network’s powerhouse stations. Weird Circle is considered a fine example of the paranormal and supernatural horror genres. Most of the radio scripts were adapted from the works of Poe, de Balzac, Wilkie Collins, Goethe, Hawthorne, Charlotte Bronte, Daniel DeFoe and many others.

The Tell-Tale Heart is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe first published in 1843. It follows an unnamed, unreliable narrator who insists on his sanity after murdering an old man with a "vulture eye". The murder is carefully calculated, and the murderer hides the body by cutting it into pieces and hiding it under the floorboards. Ultimately the narrator's guilt manifests itself in the hallucination that the man's heart is still beating under the floorboards.

“Dr. Manette’s Manuscript” is a very freely adapted story pulled from Charles Dickens’s (1812-1870) 1859 novel A Tale of Two Cities. This radio script varies widely from the longer and more convoluted story found in the novel and begins here with the manuscript and its story–told in flashback–of one Dr. Manette who is asked to perform a task he cannot refuse, a dying woman who appears to be driven to madness (as her wailing and moaning duly attests), certain well to do people of the French aristocracy living in Paris around the year 1751, and Dr. Manette’s relationship to them and how he gets sucked into their lives to his eventual detriment. At the center of it all, as you will soon hear, is a certain graveyard, and the mystery surrounding the number 12 which seems to be at the heart of this Machiavellian tale. To compare this radio adaptation with the written story you may read the complete text here. It’s definitely worth reading. In the mean time, never let it be said that Old Time Radio failed to provide entertainment for the well educated and cultured among its vast listening audience, as this offering is brought to you from a literary classic that is estimated to have sold in the neighborhood of 200 million copies worldwide

Book Summery:
In the form of a journal, the narrator, an upper-class, unmarried, bourgeois man, conveys his troubled thoughts and feelings of anguish. This anguish occurs for four days after he sees a "superb three-mast" Brazilian ship and impulsively waves to it, unconsciously inviting the supernatural being aboard the boat to haunt his home.
All around him, he senses the presence of a being that he calls the "Horla". The torment that the Horla causes is first manifested physically: The narrator complains that he suffers from "an atrocious fever", and that he has trouble sleeping. He wakes up from nightmares with the chilling feeling that someone is watching him and "kneeling on [his] chest."
Throughout the short story, the main character's sanity, or rather, his feelings of alienation, are put into question as the Horla progressively dominates his thoughts. Initially, the narrator himself questions his sanity, exclaiming "Am I going mad?" after having found his glass of water empty, despite not having drunk from it. He later decides that he is not, in fact, going mad, since he is fully "conscious" of his "state" and that he could indeed "analyze it with the most complete lucidity." The presence of the Horla becomes more and more intolerable to the protagonist, as it is "watching...looking at...[and] dominating" him.
After reading about a large number of Brazilians who fled their homes, bemoaning the fact that "they are pursued, possessed, governed like human cattle by...a species of vampire, which feeds on their life while they are asleep...[and] drinks water," the narrator soon realizes the Horla was aboard the Brazilian three-mast boat that he had previously greeted. He feels so "lost" and "possessed" to the point that he is ready to kill the Horla. The narrator traps the Horla in a room and sets fire to the house, but forgets his servants, who perish in the fire. In the last lines of the story, faced with the persistence of the Horla's presence, he concludes suicide to be his only liberation.

Mr. Gardner was a landowner and had just collected his rents and had a large sum of money in his bureau drawer and because of the bad weather he was unable to go out to deposit it in the bank. He was discussing his predicament with his friend Professor Nelson. Professor Nelson declared that he was going to London tonight but the thought of all that money in Gardeners house had drove him to drastic actions.
"A Terribly Strange Bed" is a short story by Wilkie Collins, first published in 1852 in Household Words, a magazine edited by Charles Dickens.
It was written near the beginning of his writing career, his first published book having appeared in 1848. Collins met Dickens in 1851, and this story was the first contribution by Collins to Dickens's magazine Household Words. After several more pieces for the magazine, he became a paid member of staff in 1856.

The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket is the only complete novel written by American writer Edgar Allan Poe. The work relates the tale of the young Arthur Gordon Pym, who stows away aboard a whaling ship called the Grampus. Various adventures and misadventures befall Pym, including shipwreck, mutiny, and cannibalism, before he is saved by the crew of the Jane Guy. Aboard this vessel, Pym and a sailor named Dirk Peters continue their adventures farther south. Docking on land, they encounter hostile black-skinned natives before escaping back to the ocean. The novel ends abruptly as Pym and Peters continue toward the South Pole.
