Gabby’s Recipe:
Brooks Family Tea Ring
4-4.5 cups flour
5 TB softened butter
2 eggs, room temperature
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup milk at 110 degrees F
1 pack of active dry yeast
5 TB melted butter
1 cup granulated sugar
Powdered sugar icing: 1 tsp vanilla, powdered sugar, milk
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Add 1/2 cup sugar and a pack of dry active yeast to a large mixing bowl.

Warm 1/2 cup of milk in the microwave or stove, careful not to burn it. Add milk to the bowl of yeast and sugar and stir to mix.

Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes while the yeast bubbles.

Add 2 cups of flour, 5 TB softened butter, 2 eggs and 1 tsp salt. Mix together until smooth, getting rid of lumps.

Add 2 cups of flour to the bowl, mix the dough together to make a stiff dough. When you can't mix anymore, dump it out onto a clean floured surface. Knead it for 5 minutes, adding a small amount of flour as needed, until the dough is no longer sticky.

Add 1 TB oil into the bowl and turn to coat sides. Put the dough back into the bowl.

Cover the bowl with a towel or plastic wrap and let it sit in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until the dough has doubled in size.

Melt 5 TB of butter and set it aside. Create a cinnamon sugar mixture by mixing 1 cup of granulated sugar and 2.5 TB of cinnamon in a separate bowl and set this aside as well.

Place dough on a clean floured surface and roll out the dough to a rectangle of roughly 16x20", roughly 1/4" thick. Use a pastry brush to spread the melted butter over the surface of the dough. Spread the cinnamon sugar mixture on top of the buttered dough surface.

Once this is complete, roll the dough lengthwise and place it on a greased cookie sheet. Pinch the two ends of the dough roll and bring them together to form a ring or circle with the dough.

Put a towel over the ring and let it sit in a warm place for 30 minutes.

Bake the tea ring in a preheated oven (375) for 20 minutes until golden brown.

Once cooled, ice it with your favorite icing or make a powdered sugar icing .
Powdered Sugar Icing: 1 tsp vanilla and your desired amount of powdered sugar and milk.
