Putnam has been working as an engineer since 1987 starting with General Electric in the Syracuse, NY area, predominantly as a Test Engineer. Early in his career he used a number of languages to perform this role. In 2002 Putnam started his own company, North Shore Technology, Inc., and has been making his living developing LabVIEW programs since. The projects range from a test system that recorded the data from drop testing safety harnesses, to Real Time FPGA control of the output of a submarine sonar system. Now, after 30 years of LabVIEW he is winding down, pondering "retirement" whatever that means.

Sam and Putnam talk about how running a business is more than being a good engineer.

Chris Cilino has a passion for technology, teamwork, and mentorship. In his 20+ year career, he has employed all three in the context of using LabVIEW in creating applications and engaging with the LabVIEW community.

Chris started his career at National Instruments in Applications Engineering, then Software Development in DAQ R&D (where he got his CLA in 2014), and then finally in LabVIEW marketing where he owned programs such as the LabVIEW Champions.

Chris spent the next three years at Cirrus Logic as the LabVIEW Framework architect. During his time at Cirrus, he attained the status of LabVIEW Champion in 2017, and then passed the Center of Excellence audit in 2018. He’s given numerous presentations at the CLA Summits and distributed my toolkits for use and most recently I've joined DMC as a project engineering and LabVIEW Consultant.

In parallel, he started GCentral, a non-profit organization with the mission of improving the LabVIEW Community's engineering capability by removing barriers to collaboration.

In this episode Sam and Chris talk about the robust nature of the LabVIEW Community and how our developers have great opportunities ahead of them.

She’s had the privilege to be involved in the development of LabVIEW systems for the automotive, nuclear, railroad, aviation, and space industries. She’s helped install cRIOs in nuclear control rooms, commissioned LabVIEW test platforms in a rail yard, suited up and used a PXI for testing in nuclear containment, wrote LabVIEW code to monitor the CAN bus of her car, and operated as a "test pilot" for a LabVIEW hydraulic flight simulator. Speaking of new solutions, what is the “best” way to do anything? What makes it the “best”? Your “best” practices could be holding you back from the creative solutions that make everything better.
