Do you feel pressure to be positive and happy no matter what life throws your way? In a culture that promotes a “Good Vibes Only” mentality, it can feel as though there’s little space to talk about our real feelings. This pressure to be happy and positive at all costs can lead to toxic positivity.
In this episode Brenda provides insights into how toxic positivity can have a detrimental effect on your mental and emotional health by promoting the suppression of real and valid feelings. It expands on the importance of recognizing that authentic positivity isn’t about masking or ignoring difficult emotions but rather about embracing them as integral parts of the human experience. By encouraging the acknowledgment and processing of all emotions, including those that may be uncomfortable or difficult, this episode advocates for a more holistic approach to emotional well-being. Brenda also emphasizes the impact of toxic positivity on relationships and personal growth, pointing out that genuine connections and personal development come from authenticity in expressing feelings and sharing experiences openly. She invites you to reflect on your own tendencies towards toxic positivity and consider ways to create a more emotionally healthy environment for you and those around you.

Transitioning a loved one into long term care can be an emotional journey. In addition to the challenges faced with navigating long term care itself, it can be tough to navigate emotions such as grief and guilt that commonly show up when placing a loved one in long term care.

Have you ever wondered if you would benefit from therapy? There are many reasons why people seek out psychotherapy. Sometimes life experiences can cause us to form beliefs, patterns and ways of coping that no longer serve us. A therapist can help you to take a closer look at your emotional life – both past and present and explore some of the root causes that could be causing emotional issues and behavioural patterns you might be experiencing.
Perhaps you’re at a point where you’re experiencing some emotional issues, and you’ve tried everything you know how to do for yourself, and you aren’t sure what to do next. You might be trying to resolve a dilemma in your life or trying to make a difficult decision. Other reasons you might go to therapy could include dealing with relationship issues, divorce, illness, death, grief, or a life transition. Sometimes you might notice that you have patterns you want to change or are dealing with depression or anxiety. These are just some of the reasons why you might decide to seek out a therapist.
Listen in on my conversation with Registered Psychotherapist, Sarah Flanagan, as we talk about what psychotherapy is all about. Sarah helps to demystify the process of therapy and gives some insight into what it’s like to see a therapist, and the ways in which a therapist can assist you with emotional and relational issues that arise in your life.
Here are some of the topics we discuss:
Sarah Flanagan is a Registered Psychotherapist working in Toronto. Before starting on her path to becoming a psychotherapist, she studied Theatre at the University of Toronto and worked for many years in non-profits, government, and higher education. In her work as a therapist, she provides a non-judgmental, supportive, and at times playful atmosphere in which clients can safely explore and be themselves. By offering a space to give voice to thoughts and feelings, connections can be made between patterns past and present, allowing her clients to access and build inner resources and authenticity. Sarah strives to work in an anti-oppressive, feminist, sex-positive, and LGBTQ2S+ framework.

Is there such a thing as “good grief”? Are there effective ways to cope with grief and loss? If you’re like most people, you never really learned how to deal with grief. It’s not until we experience a loss that we try to figure it out and cope as best we can…but there is a better way to deal with grief.
Listen in on this conversation between your host, Brenda Jasmin, and Kirsten Frey, a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist®, as they discuss the complexities of grief, and how you can effectively cope with, and process grief and loss.
Here are some of the topics we discuss:
About Kirsten Frey:
Along with being a Grief Recovery Specialist®, Kirsten Frey is also a Transformation Coach. Kirsten has walked the path of loss many times. She has experienced the death of loved ones, divorce, and miscarriage.
As a former police officer, she’s lost friends and colleagues to violence and suicide. Each time, she used the only tools she had ever been taught, which was to be strong and grieve alone. In 2017 she experienced a transformative loss that made her feel like her whole life had been a lie. This shattering experience led her to search for a better way to deal with loss and the unresolved grief she was still dealing with from her previous losses. She realized that she had intellectualized her grief in the past, which had given her a lot of understanding, but very little emotional recovery.
Kirsten’s search led her to finding the tools she needed to resolve the incomplete losses in her life and create the closer connections she’d always wanted, and it changed her life.
Kirsten is now passionate about sharing the education and tools she learned, so that more people can effectively move through their own unique loss and grief in a caring and supportive way. Kirsten wholeheartedly believes we are meant to live our lives FULLY expressed and emotionally free

What does it mean to honour yourself? As women, we take on so many roles and get pulled in so many directions that it’s easy to put ourselves on the back burner. Eventually it can become a habit to put everyone else’s needs before your own.
If you’re not intentional about honouring yourself, your needs, and what’s truly in your heart, you can end up feeling empty and unfulfilled.
Listen in on my conversation with purpose-driven entrepreneur, and life and business coach, Amber Lee Forrester, where we dive into the topic of “Honouring Thyself”. We talk about the how to get intentional about creating the habit of honouring your own needs.
Amber Lee Forrester owned a dog apparel company where she was featured as an entrepreneur on Shark Tank, and while that business felt right at the time, she gave herself permission to make the bold decision to pivot out of that business and move into a business that felt more aligned with what was in her heart.

Are you being true to yourself and living the life you truly want? Are you living in alignment with your true self?
It’s so easy to get caught in the trap of living the life we think we’re supposed to be living, rather than the life we truly want. Listen in on my conversation with Marilyn Green, where she shares a big leap and retired early from a secure career in education, to run her dream life coaching practice. We talk about how she courageously made some big changes in her personal and professional life to start living the life she really wanted. Learn how Marilyn spent the past 15 years creating a life that is in alignment with who she truly is at her core.
Through challenging inner voices and negative thoughts, finding joy, connecting with one’s own inner voice, making small changes from a place of alignment, and believing in their own worth, Marilyn encourages women to give themselves the freedom to flourish.

One of the pathways to flourishing is to create more meaning and purpose in our lives. One way to do this is to connect with our spiritual side. When we listen to our inner wisdom and inner voice, it allows us to connect to our higher purpose and our higher self. This helps us to flourish, because it can lead us along a spiritual path that can lead to more meaning, purpose and fulfillment in our lives.
Join me for a conversation with Carolyn Hidalgo, where we talk about the importance of connecting with our soul and our spirit. Learn how to tap into your higher self, how to embrace the values of Truth, Beauty and Goodness, and how to build your spiritual muscle, so you can align with your higher purpose, co-create with the divine, and become a powerful player in the game of life.
Carolyn Hidalgo is a former business executive who decided to follow her passion, which led to her becoming a Soul Relationship Coach. Carolyn is a certified life coach, who received her life coach certification with the Co-active Training Institute. Carolyn is also certified in hypnosis and past life regression. She’s married, and is a mom to 3 beautiful adult children, who are all pursuing their post-secondary studies. In her work, Carolyn focuses on the mind, body, spirit and soul, and helps her coaching clients to trust their inner truth. Carolyn’s vision is to help people live judgment free in their relationships, especially their relationship with themselves.
Here are some of the topics we discuss:
● The journey Carolyn took to finding her true self
● The meaning behind 11:11, connecting to the spiritual world beyond the physical realm
● Exploring our inner truth through our values and life experiences
● Exploring the difference between the soul and the spirit
● Connecting with divine creativity
● Navigating a spiritual path
● Fostering a connection with our higher self
● Discovering your inner spark to flourish in your life
Quote from Christiane Northrup’s book - Making Life Easy: How the Divine Inside Can Heal Your Body and Life (2016) by Christiane Northrup, MD:
“When we acknowledge the Divine part of ourselves - God coming through us as us - the whole ball game changes. Life just works. If we align and co-create with the Divine - our Souls and our Spirits - life becomes a grand and exciting adventure of consciously bringing Spirit into matter and reveling in our bodies. We are no longer ignorant victims of our circumstances. We are powerful players in the game of life.”- Christiane Northrup, MD

If we truly want to flourish in today’s world, we need to be able to adapt. We’ve all heard of IQ and EQ, but did you know that there’s a new quotient called AQ? It stands for Adaptability Quotient, and it’s a social science metric that measures the ability to adapt and thrive in an environment of continual and accelerating change.
Society is undergoing an exponential rate of change, and to keep up, we need to be able to adapt and increase our capacity for change. The good news is that you can learn to become more adaptable.
To learn more about the Adaptability Quotient and what we can do to increase our AQ, I had a conversation with Nancy Watt, a “pracademic” who applies evidence-based research with experiential learning using the tools and techniques of improvisational theatre, humour research, and laughter.
Nancy is an international speaker, facilitator, and improviser. Along with her background in positive psychology and corporate training, she is also from Second City’s Improv Conservatory and Sketch Writing Programs in Toronto and Chicago and is an Applied Improv Practitioner.

Is it possible to flourish while transitioning into menopause? Perimenopause can begin as early as 40 and can create obstacles that get in the way of your ability to flourish.
Changes in your cycle, increased irritability, hot flashes, difficulty with word recall, sleep issues and increased risk of depression are just some of the issues women can deal with during perimenopause. These signs and symptoms can create obstacles to flourishing, but it’s still possible to flourish and thrive during this life transition.
In my conversation with Dr. Laura Jasmin, we talk about all things related to perimenopause and menopause. Find out what to expect during this phase of life and what you can do to navigate, and dare I say, even embrace this midlife transition.

Women can feel a lot of pressure to “be nice”, even when people aren’t being nice to us, or when it’s not in our best interest. Sometimes we need to let go of the pressure to please others and have the courage to live life on our own terms. Join me for this inspiring conversation with the author of Wire Your Brain for Confidence, Louisa Jewell, as she shares her story about having the courage to take the exciting leap to follow her own definition of success and live life on her own terms. Is it possible to bounce back from a major setback? When life knocks us down through a traumatic event, major setback, or crisis, it can be difficult to lift ourselves back up again. In some cases, not only can we lift ourselves up, but these negative experiences can spur positive change. In positive psychology, we call this post-traumatic growth.
Listen in as Vanessa Woodburn shares a powerful personal story about how she was able to lift herself up and experience learning and growth after a traumatic accident. Why do so many of us lose ourselves along the journey to womanhood and motherhood? Instead of living the flourishing life we envisioned for ourselves, many of us end up floundering and losing our identity along the way.
In this episode, parenting writer, maternal mental health advocate, and author of Welcome to the Jungle, Anneliese Lawton, shares how motherhood, postpartum depression and a health crisis led her to down a frantic path of self-discovery.
Anneliese shares some of the pivotal moments where she lost herself along the way and discusses how navigating the motherhood journey and all its challenges eventually led her back to her true self.
Anneliese Lawton is the author of Welcome to the Jungle, A Frantic Journey Through Motherhood and Self-Discovery. Anneliese is a Canadian gal with a big passion for maternal mental health. She had three kids in under four years and has lived to tell the tale. After reading dozens of self-help books, listening to podcasts, and writing for dozens of parenting publications – Anneliese learned that validation from other moms was key to feeling supported in motherhood. This mama of three (who wears too many hats) is Gabrielle Bernstein meets Workin’ Moms, meets the mom-next-door. With her, nothing is off-limits, and she hopes her writing will inspire, empower and help other women find joy and peace within themselves.
Here are some of the topics we discuss:
● How a quick post Anneliese wrote on Facebook went viral…leading her to realize she had an important message to share that the world was eager to hear
● How Anneliese’s own struggle with anxiety and postpartum depression led her to becoming a maternal mental health advocate
● How a health crisis led her to hitting rock bottom and made her realize she needed to learn to love who she was on the inside
● How finding her voice and sharing it contributed to her healing
● The negative messages girls receive in the formative teenage years that lead them to believe they can’t be who they truly are
● How women fall into the trap of thinking they have to be perfect, especially in the age of social media
● How finding meaning and purpose in her mental health journey has helped Anneliese to speak out and inspire other women
● How even though some days she still feels like she is floundering in motherhood between piles of laundry, missing mittens and forgotten lunch bags, Anneliese’s journey of self-discovery had led her to feeling like she is flourishing in the sense of who she is now
