Arthur Brooks is an American author and columnist, Harvard professor and a public speaker. In his book “From strength to strength” he tries to help people find greater happiness as they age and change. Digging into the biographies of some of the most successful people in history, the author found a hidden source of agony among people who have done well in their careers. He called it striver's curse: people who strive to be excellent at what they do often wind up finding their inevitable decline terrifying, their success unsatisfying, and their relationships lacking. He started looking for a way to escape the curse. Methodically, he built a strategic plan for the rest of his own life. A plan he shares with the reader and which can make the second half of adulthood happier and more meaningful than the first.

In his book “How To Be Rich” the oil tycoon J. Paul Getty, the richest man in the world at his time, reveals secrets of his success and shares his opinion about the personality of a rich individual. The book was written as a series of essays for the Playboy magazine in the 60s. In the preface the billionaire explains what the book is all about – namely how to be rich, how to discharge the responsibilities created by wealth while enjoying the privileges and prerogatives conferred by it. He claims that “richness” is as much a matter of character, of philosophy, outlook and attitude, as it is of money.

Did you know that, statistically, you’ll work harder and earn less as a self - employed person than you would in a salaried job? The very reasons people start businesses – to earn more, work less and have a bigger impact – are actually less likely to occur. After interviewing thousands of entrepreneurs Daniel Priestly discovered that on the whole they were hurting. Most were highly confident when they started out – smart, hard - working and dedicated as well – but their businesses were failing to provide real benefits. The game was beating them and after several years they weren’t so self - assured. Fortunately, Daniel also had the chance to get close to a number of highly successful entrepreneurs who were living the dream. Studying them, the author set out to codify the way for businesses to scale - up, earn great money, stand the test of time and create fun places to work. The answer is 24 Assets. This book will teach you what is a business asset, how to create one and how to improve it. There are 24 assets a business needs to develop, and the best assets to own in today’s economy are digital assets.

Did you know that according to the World Health Organization, Japan has the highest life expectancy in the world: 85 years for men and 87.3 years for women? Moreover, it has the highest ratio of centenarians worldwide: more than 520 for every million people. The island of Okinawa even exceeds the national average – there are 24.55 people over the age of 100 for every 100 inhabitants. Hector Garcia and Francesc Miralles spent a few years examining the Okinawan lifestyle and especially a rural town in the north end of the island with a population of 3000 which boasts the highest life expectancy in the world. When they conducted interviews with the eldest residents, they realised that there was something far more powerful than natural resources at work: an uncommon joy that flows from people there and guides them through their lives - the mysterious ikigai.

The word ikigai represents a Japanese concept best translated as “a reason for being”. It’s similar to Viktor Frankl's logotherapy (which helps people find their purpose in life), but it goes a step beyond. Ikigai is one of the keys to a long life - in addition to a healthy diet, a simple life in the outdoors, green tea, and the subtropical climate.

The purpose of this book is to bring the secrets of Japan's centenarians to readers and give them the tools to find their own ikigai. In addition, the authors share insights from Japanese philosophy on the lasting health of body, mind, and spirit.

20 years after the best seller “Market Wizards'', Jack Schwager writes the “Unknown market wizards” where he introduces these solo traders that operate in complete obscurity and achieve performance results that far surpass the vast majority of professional asset managers. The author found traders whose records matched those of the traders in the first Market wizards book and did it in an environment far less favourable than the unique markets of the inflationary 1970s. We will present to you the key takeaways from the interview with Peter Brandt, a futures trader, who after over a decade of spectacular success following his initial failed attempts, lost his edge, went cold turkey on trading for 11 years, and then resumed trading for a second lengthy span of outstanding performance.

Dr. Lissa Rankin is a physician, speaker, founder of the Whole Health Medicine Institute and a New York Times bestselling author. She has a medical degree and practiced following the principles of evidence-based medicine. Her own story and experience with patients made her look for new radical ways of healing people. Seeing cases of spontaneous, unexplainable remissions, she started asking herself: What if we have the power to heal our body by changing how our minds think and feel? If the impossible happens to one person, is there anything we can learn from what that person did? Dr Rankin started searching for hard proof to back her theory. Feeling she wasn’t practicing the medicine she dreamed of, she left it and moved with her family to the country to live a simple life. There she began blogging about what she missed and loved about medicine. She got in touch with a lot of people and read plenty of journal articles, trying to find out the truth about what happens when the mind is healthy and why we get sick when the mind is unhealthy. The book “Mind Over Medicine" records her journey of discovery and shares with us the scientific data she uncovered.

The next Bill Gates won't develop an operating system and the next Mark Zuckerberg won't develop a social network. If that's exactly what you're trying to do and you already imagine the billions in front of you, you'd better take a few minutes to find out what Peter Thiel, the man who made a fortune by founding PayPal, has to say in his book “Zero to One” about building companies that create new things.

Those who only stick to the familiar will only achieve the familiar and, in the best case, improve the world slightly. Those who instead create something new have the chance to make the leap from zero to one. Thiel refers to the former as horizontal progress and thus a development from one upwards, and the latter as vertical progress - the successful leap from zero to one.

“The 8th Habit: From Effectiveness to Greatness” is another interesting book by Stephen Covey, the author of the classic “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”. Why an 8th habit? Because the world had changed since the first book. According to the author, being effective is no longer optional in today's world – it is the price of entry to the playing field. Covey thinks that the call and need of a new era is for greatness. The 8th habit is not about adding one more habit to the 7, it is about seeing the power of a third dimension to the 7 Habits. This 8th habit is all about Finding Your Voice and Inspiring Others to Find Theirs.

Like most adults, the author of “Breath” James Nestor suffered from respiratory problems and no allergy drug, inhaler, supplements or diet did him much good. This led him to a decade of traveling, research on the subject of breathing and self-experimentation. Most of the techniques he explores have been around for hundreds of years. They were created, documented, forgotten and discovered in another culture at another time, then forgotten again. The book explores evolution, medical history, biochemistry, physiology, physics, athletic endurance and more, all in the form of an engaging story following the journey of the author doing his research on the lost art of breathing.

Not knowing your father sucks. Learning how to sell drugs from your 15-year-old mother sucks. And of course, being shot nine times probably sucks too. Who could know more about the rules of success than the man who made it from those circumstances to the top of the music, film and TV industry: Curtis Jackson?

Better known as 50 Cent, he truly made it from less than rags to more than riches and claims every success comes down to two characteristics: finding fearlessness and having the heart of a hustler. Both are instilled in each of his personas. 50 Cent, whose hunger and ambition brought him to the top and Curtis Jackson, whose experience and wisdom allowed him to stay there.

Let’s take a look at the lessons from the unfair and ruthless street business you can adapt to survive and thrive in the no less unfair and ruthless corporate world.

Charlie Munger is one of the world's most successful investors and is best known as the partner of Warren Buffet at Berkshire Hathaway. In the book “The complete investor” the author Tren Griffin claims that the most fascinating thing about Munger are not his investment returns but the way he thinks and keeps his emotions under control. A fundamental truth about investing is that people who can think independently, gain control of their emotions, and avoid psychological errors have an advantage as investors. Munger, who has read a lot of biographies, thinks that learning from the success and failure of others is the fastest way to get smarter without a lot of pain. He likes being a teacher and says that the best thing a human being can do is help another human being know more. In the same spirit the purpose of this book is to teach ordinary investors how to think more like Charlie Munger and apply his approach to their portfolios.

A common fallacy is that the rich don’t pay taxes because they cheat. The truth is that the rich understand that if they invest their money in government incentivised activities, they can get a lot richer and pay a lot less tax. Instead of vilifying their success, we can understand what makes them successful, even when it comes to taxes. Yet, most people hate taxes. Tom Wheelwright loves the subject and knows about taxes more than most CPAs and most government bureaucrats who work for the IRS. In his book “The WIN-WIN Wealth Strategy” he shows us how tax incentives combined with debt can be so great that they effectively fund most, if not all, of the investment. He presents to the reader 7 investments and activities the government wants you to engage in and the tax incentives they provide in exchange.

As a publisher of SUCCESS magazine and producer of the television network SuccessTV Darren Hardy has had a great access to many of the most incredible achievers of our lifetime. He has spent a huge time investigating, collecting and curating their best insides and strategies on success and putting them to test in his own life experience. “The Compound Effect” is a must read book about success which synthesises a few time-tested principles and highlights the importance of the compound effect in all areas of human endeavour.

The Compound Effect is the principle of reaping huge rewards from a series of small, smart choices. These small, insignificant steps offer little or no immediate result but completed consistently over time create a radical difference.
The Compound Effect is always working, also in the negative way. You can choose to make it work for you, or you can ignore it and experience the negative effects of this powerful principle.

The book is a fantastic and easy read where every word is a gem worth writing down. We recommend reading it multiple times and doing the action steps at the end of each chapter.

To quote John Maxwell:

“You will never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine”.

Money enslaves those who are uneducated financially and makes them serfs to a paycheck. That's why Kiyosaki declares that knowledge is the new money. The book “Bubble or Revolution” is a great introduction to the world of blockchains and cryptocurrencies but is also much more. The authors, three brilliant guys, product managers at Google, Microsoft and Facebook, attempt to answer the question if crypto and blockchains will change the world like the internet did or if cryptocurrencies are just another investment vehicle that is in an exponential bull run and soon will go bust. The book looks in depth into the potential of crypto and explains the limitations of smart contracts. It studies successful applications of public and private blockchains and gives a forecast of what lies ahead in this dynamic space. It’s an incredibly easy and pleasant read and at the end you feel much more prepared to make a decision if you should somehow be involved in the crypto mania and to what extent.

Every successful person on the planet attributes their success to one of those six practices, one of the SAVERS.” Kiyosaki said, “But until the Miracle Morning, I had never met anyone that was doing all six of them.” He said, “If you meditate every day, it’ll change your life. It’ll lower your stress. It’ll help your clarity. If you exercise every day, it’ll change your life. If you read every morning, it’ll change your life.” He said, “Doing all six of these timeless practices creates miracles in my life. It literally is the Miracle Morning.”**

These are literally the six practices that will save you from missing out on living life to your full potential.

“The obstacle is the way” is a brilliant and engaging book, written by Ryan Holiday and inspired by the concepts of stoicism and by Marcus Aurelius. Most of us spend our lives dodging the hard stuff or sitting frozen before the many obstacles that lie between us and our goals and aspirations. Ryan Holiday exposes the tragic fallacy of this approach to living and teaches us how to summon our best selves, how to deal with life’s adversities and turn negatives into positives. This book will show you the way how you, like all great men and women, can use your disadvantages as fuel and become better because of them, not despite them.

Research shows that clutter decreases the joy we feel at work for two main reasons. First, it overwhelms the brain. The more stuff we have around us, the more overloaded the brain becomes and stress hormones levels increase. We feel distracted, stressed, and anxious, we spend hours looking for misplaced items in the office. Second, when we are inundated with things, information, and tasks, we lose our sense of control and our decision making ability is impaired. No longer capable of taking the initiative or choosing our actions, we forget that work is a means for realising our dreams and aspirations and we lose love for our job. The book “Joy at work” by Marie Condo and Scott Sonenshein aims to help you to not only clean your desk and your calendar but also to begin a dialog with yourself through tidying and discover what brings you joy at work so that you can give it your best.

“The Greatest Salesman in the World” by Og Mandino is one of the most inspiring and uplifting books ever written. Matthew McConaughey claims he wouldn’t be where he is now if Og Mandino’s book hadn’t found him in his time of need. The actor says this book is his all time favorite. Don’t be misled by the title - you don’t have to work in sales to benefit from the book. Although, it’s good to keep in mind that everyone is in sales one way or another. Maybe you don’t hold the title of salesperson, but if the business you are in requires you to deal with people, you too, are in sales. The author used the same ten principles described in the book to turn his life around and transform himself from a drunk on the verge of a suicide to one of the most sought after speakers in the country.

  • Good books can and should be read multiple times.
  • Don’t read and listen only to what already aligns with your philosophy. You might have some blindspots.**
