Today's episode is about an article I wrote a while ago.

The article can be found here: https://medium.com/hello-love/if-you-are-hurt-by-peoples-negative-opinions-about-you-read-this-b18d1dbbe742

I talk specifically about one of the ideas in the article, which is setting boundaries with yourself.

Yup, boundaries with yourself are extra important, though not usually discussed.

Just as you tell other people what you will tolerate and not tolerate, you need to tell yourself the same.

You need to have boundaries within your relationship with yourself.
But what does that mean?

Boundaries are reflections of your self-respect. And boundaries are also about what is good for you.

Based on these concepts, let us see what types of boundaries you can set when it comes to your relationship with yourself.

Letting yourself go and indulging in self-destructive behaviors is violating your boundaries with yourself.

Neglecting your health and looks is a violation, too.

Procrastinating, being lazy, and giving in to fear, and thus not pursuing what is good for you and not learning and not growing, is another level of violation.

It is as if the disrespect and boundary violation is not coming from other rude people. It is coming from within.

All of these behaviors are disrespectful because they are against your well-being.

They will make you look down on yourself in the long run.

Nobody is happy about themselves while behaving this way.

If you do not invest in yourself, you will invest in self-pity and self-hatred.

You will search for external sources of approval because you are not happy with who you are.

Imagine standing in front of a gigantic mirror where you see yourself and your surroundings.

You see your reflection and everything around you perfectly well.

Everything is fine. Your reflection in the mirror looks good. You see the place you are in clearly.

Now, heartbreaks are when this mirror shatters into a million, sharp pieces. Some pieces are big, others are small. All are sharp. And all will hit you as hard as possible.

They will wound you when they hit you.

Some will hit you now; some will hit you later.

The main idea is that the mirror is now but a sharp, harmful object that will hit you painfully. A million times.

It can get shattered instantly and with no warning. Or a few cracks here and there can eventually destroy it.

But it is not only that. Things are worse.

You can no longer see yourself or your surroundings. And if you do, it is a reflection that is not only not clear but also deceiving.

The way you see yourself and the world will get a hard hit, regardless of how independent you are.

And a million pieces will hit you a million times, in a different million places.

The details hurt. The scents. The music. The places. The voice. The photos. The random memories. The phone calls. The hugs. The flowers. The tears.

Funny how you are left with the latter.

Breakups are painfulBut you can overcome them.

I know you might not believe me right now. But you can overcome heartaches. The scars might always be here, but they will not hurt anymore.

And you might as well meet someone who finds your scars a work of art.

That being said, I want to help you in your journey to overcome the pain of a million sharp pieces hits.

I will just talk about two points. But those points are important. They are less talked about though they are where the real healing happens.

What does it mean to “let someone go”?Let’s get something straight quickly before we discuss the signs.

Letting someone go by cutting off that person is not practical in each and every situation.

Family relationships, for instance, can get tricky as you sometimes can’t do that.

But it doesn’t mean you can’t let go.

Don’t be confused that if you can’t cut ties, you can’t let someone go.

You still can let them go in different ways.

You can minimize contact, keep it casual, keep it professional, stop offering help, or just change the depth of the relationship you have with that person.

There are options.

The main idea is that you don’t allow the person’s toxicity to ruin your life. To prevent that, you let them go. And you can let them go in various ways as long as you prevent them from negatively affecting you.

And you’re justified in doing that.

We will discuss each sign and go deep explaining why it is toxic and what you should do.

The more signs you find, the more toxic the situation is. The more toxic the situation is, the faster you need to let go.

The 7 signs are:
