This week we interviewed Caroline Barry, the current digital marketing coordinator for the New England Revolution. Caroline told us about her experience working in sports and how the University of South Carolina prepared her. She talks about how she incorporates her art skills in the content she produces. She also tells us about what it was like getting to cover her sister who plays for the Women’s Soccer team at USC. Lastly, Surprise! Caroline tells us about her upcoming new job with Quinnipiac Athletics!
This week we interviewed Manie Robinson. Maine is an instructor at USC for the Journalism school. We talked about his experience working for USA Today. Manie tells us about his experience in filmmaking, podcasting and sports reporting. Lastly, we discuss how he got to be a sports instructor at USC, the classes he teaches, and the significance of his classes for students.
This week we interviewed Greg Brannon, an instructor at USC and former Carolina Panthers producer. Greg shared with us his experience of establishing the Carolina Panthers’ team media. He also discusses the relationships and trust he developed with the coaches and team in order to produce content. Additionally, Greg talks about how the USC sports media program has expanded and how he got his start as an instructor.
This week we interviewed Shelby Beckler, the social media coordinator for Charlotte FC. Shelby discusses her experiences as an employee of Charlotte FC, the newly established team in Major League Soccer. We discuss what her job entails and how she adjusts to the constantly evolving social media world. Finally, we discuss Shelby's time at USC and how it helped her get to where she is now!
This week we interviewed Kendall Smith of the Charlotte Checkers and Knights. Kendall gave us an inside scoop on what it is like reporting on the AHL and MiLB teams. Kendall also talks about her experiences working for ESPN+ and what her time was like at the University of South Carolina. Lastly we talk about all the full circle moments Kendall has had in her career!
This week we interviewed Jake, Johnny and Jack of Gamecock Men’s Lacrosse. We got an exclusive interview with the 2x National Champion club team. They told us about what it is like playing for the team, the culture and the competitiveness of the players on the roster. They tell us about their upcoming 2024 season and their new coach. Lastly we talk about their favorite memories on the team.
For our first episode for season 4 we interviewed Chris Edwards of Duke Athletics. Chris gave us the inside scoop on what it is like covering Duke Athletics through radio broadcasts. He talks about his favorite memories working in sports and advice on getting into the broadcast industry. Lastly, he talks about his cooking segment on instagram “Cooking with Chris”!
This week we interviewed Max Holzman, Denton Rhode, Dre Graham, Ethan Wainer, who are four of the highlighters for Gamecock Women’s Basketball. The four of them give us the inside scoop of what it is like being part of the women’s basketball team practice squad. They talk about their experience and what it is like playing with some of the best women basketball players. They also discuss Dawn Staley, her legendary coaching career, and the culture she created on the USC women's basketball team.
This week we interviewed Vice President, Morgan Giard and Treasurer, Alyssa Nardslico of the newly founded Women’s ice hockey club team at USC. They gave us the inside scoop on what it's like starting this team from the ground up. They talk about their recruiting, fundraising and challenges being a hockey team in the south. They also tell us about winning their first game and being the first ever women's hockey collegiate game in South Carolina! Lastly we talk about how they are growing the team and the dreams they have for the program!
This week we interviewed senior president and captain Bobby Dicicco of Cock Hockey. Bobby gives us an inside scoop of what it is like to play on Cock Hockey and what it is like being the president. He tells us about Cock Hockey merch and sponsors. We talk about what recruiting is like for hockey at a southern school. Lastly we talk about the future of cock hockey as it is nationally recognized.
This week we interviewed senior captain Cat Barry from Gamecock Women’s Soccer. Cat tells us about this season's success and how the team is like a family. We talk about how Cat is a leader on and off the field. Cat tells us about winning the SEC tournament last year and how they are preparing for the upcoming one and the NCAA tournament. Lastly Cat tells us about her favorite moments being a USC athlete!
This week we celebrate one year of Girls in the Game! We discuss how Girls in the Game has evolved over the last year. We also talk about our favorite episodes and funniest memories. We talk about how ourselves as co-host have grown over the last year and what we have learned. Lastly, we talk about our experiences and what we are up to in the sports journalism world.
This week we interviewed Erin Summer who is the team reporter for the New Orleans Saints and Pelicans. We discussed how Erin got to her current role and what it is like covering football and basketball in the lively city of New Orleans. Erin tells us about her experience covering for college athletics and how it is different from covering professional teams. Erin also tells us what it was like working the NBA and NFL draft. Lastly we discussed some of Erin’s favorite memories from work including covering the Final Four and athletes she has covered since high school that are now professional.
This week we interviewed outside hitter Riley Whitesides and middle blocker Ellie Ruprich of gamecock volleyball. We talked about how it is their senior year and how they are stepping up as leaders. Riley talks about getting her 1000th career point recently and Ellie talks about being dominant in defense in the SEC. They also talk about how the team builds chemistry on and off the court. Lastly they talk about their win against clemson at home!
This week we interviewed Lyndsay Rowley, the team reporter for the Nashville Predators. She gave us the inside scope of her job. She explained how she got her current position and the path she took to get there. She describes her relationships with the players and coaches and how the team is like a family. Lastly, she told us what it was like hosting the NHL awards.
This week we interviewed Daniel Carter of Gamecocks Online. We talk about what teams Daniel covers at the University of South Carolina and how he creates a ton of different content for them! He explains how he ended up back in Columbia, South Carolina working for his alma mater. He also explains what it's like working for the new and creative Media Team at USC.
We are back! For our first episode of season 3 we interviewed Kai Kroeger, the punter for Gamecock Football. Kai gave us the inside scoop on what his senior year will look like on the team. We talked about him being a leader, his goals and how special teams has grown from Coach Beamer and Coach Lembo. We also talk about how golf affects Kai’s football game. Lastly we talk about Kai’s experience at SEC Media Days!
This week we interviewed Mike Uva of Gamecock Central. We talk about how he got into the sports industry, and what it was like covering The New England Patriots for WBZ and working for Gamecock Central this past fall. Mike gave us insight on what it is like covering the professional sports teams he grew up watching. We also talked about Mike’s experiences working for Gamecock Central and how he’s reported from USC Fraternity lots and Bars. Lastly, we talk about how he got his own sandwich at Bojangles named after him.
This week we interviewed Andraya Carter of ESPN. We talked about her experience playing basketball at the University of Tennessee. She gave us an inside scoop of how she got into broadcasting and what it is like working for ESPN. Lastly, we talk about what it's like covering March Madness and Andraya’s bracket.
This week we interviewed Ethan Petry of Gamecock Baseball. We talked about how the Gamecocks have had a successful start to their season. Petry gives us the inside scoop on what it is like being a Division I baseball player at an SEC school. Lastly, we talk about the team chemistry and their goals for this season.
This week we interviewed the Co-Founders of Shutout Sports, Devin Arasa and Donal Farrell. They gave us insight on their website where you can "pick em", "rate em" and "rank em" of college athletes and teams. They talk about how they have traveled to different colleges and asked students what they think of their teams and athletes. We also talk about what it's like being students running their own business.
This week we interviewed Head Coach Shelley Smith and Assistant Coach Marnie Merritt of the Women’s Soccer team at the University of South Carolina. Smith and Merritt gave us the inside scoop of how they have grown their program to become a winning team. They also talk about how the coverage for their team is improving and social media is a key to showing how their players are more than athletes. They discuss their goals for the upcoming season and women's sports in general! Finally, we discuss how their game attendance is increasing, ranking them second in the country, and how they are working to expand their following.
This week we interviewed Dr. Kevin Hull of the University of South Carolina. Dr. Hull tells us about how he teaches his Sports Media and Society Class. He discusses how he uses certain sports-related subjects to create lessons that discuss people and social issues in sports. We also ask Dr. Hull about the development of women in the sports media.
Faith Worrell, the New England Patriots' coordinator for digital services, was our guest on this episode. Faith describes what it's like to be a woman in the NFL and to work for the New England Patriots. Faith discusses how there is a better representation of women in the sporting industry. Faith also discusses her all-time favorite photograph, one of Aliyah Boston crying happily after winning the 2022 National Championship rather than tearfully after USC lost in the March Madness tournament in 2021.
This week we interviewed Alyssa Lang of the SEC Network. We talk about what it means for Alyssa to cover her Alma Mater, The University of South Carolina. Alyssa talks about her relationship with Shane Beamer and his family. She also talks about how she got to be this successful as a female in a male dominant industry. Lastly, Alyssa gives us insight on her show “Out of Pocket” and other SEC Network projects she has worked on.
This week we sat down with University of South Carolina Student Brodie Perry. Brodie has shot many athletic teams at USC under the creative media department. Brodie has also covered The Peach Bowl and The National Women’s Soccer League Draft. We talk about how Brodie is able to get the perfect shot for USC athletes on and off the court. Finally, we discuss how sports media now tells a whole story and is more than just an action shot.
For the first episode of Season 2, we interviewed Chris Phillips. Chris is the owner, founder, and host of The Spurs Up Show. In this episode we talk about why he started the show, and how he got it to have a large following. We also talk about his merchandise that has gone viral in the Gamecock community. Lastly, we talk about the transfer portal, NILs and the hiring of Dowell Loggains.
The final episode for this season, we interview the Associate Athletics Director of New and Creative Media at the University of South Carolina, Justin King. King gives us an inside scoop on what his job entails at USC. King explains how his team has developed over the years, and what goes into creating content for Gamecock athletics. King also talks about his relationship with Coach Shane Beamer, and how he gets him to do social media trends. Being our last episode for this season, it is our longest one. This episode we get the inside scoop of the University of South Carolina Club Sports. We sit down with Claire Tarlton, the women's club basketball president, and she dives deep into club sports. We talk about how club sports can improve student's mental health, create a community, allow students get their love back for a sport and overall benefit students in a positive way. We get information on how club sports operate at USC and more! Our own host, Ali Tunney gives insight to how her participation in club sports has impacted her experience at USC.
This week we interviewed Chico Carter Jr. of the University of South Carolina Men's Basketball Team. He gives us insight on his impact he will have on the team this year. He also talks about making the winning basket against Clemson in Sold Out Colonial Life Arena. Lastly, we talk about "Paris Era" and what new head coach Lamont Paris has in-store to change the program.
This week we dive into the University of South Carolina Tennis and how this program is becoming a winning program. We talked to the 2022 ITA Carolina Region Champ, Casey Hoole and got his perspective on how there is a new culture in USC tennis. We explain more about this "upward trend" Casey talks about that is happening in the program. We also talk about Sarah Hamner and her impact for USC Women's Tennis. These programs have athletes making records for USC Tennis. They deserve to be talked about and get recognition.
This episode we talk about the University of South Carolina women’s volleyball team impact on and off the court. We talk about Lauren McCutcheon, Claire Wilson and Oby Anadi. All of these players have an impact on the court but they also all have different impacts off the court. All these players are incredible and deserve to have their story told. We also talk about Victoria Garrick, a past collegiate volleyball player, and her impact on mental health in and out of the sports world.
In this episode, we look at how Shane Beamer has changed the culture of Gamecock Football. We dive into the media's and Justin King's significant influence on this new culture. We also discuss the changing roles of women in the football industry.
In the first episode, we examine the University of South Carolina's coverage of women's athletics. One of the few women's teams in collegiate and professional sports that receives appropriate coverage is UofSC. This is all a result of the women's basketball team, which won the national championship in 2017 and 2022. We dive into how football is covered in comparison to winning women's team. We also look at Dawn Staley and her team commitment to women's sports teams and female athletes' equality.
