The EOGMP
This podcast is an attempt at expanding our understanding and appreciation for all the whiskey category's. We talk about Bourbon, Rye, Irish and of course Scottish whisky and what makes each ones unique and at the same time legally different. None of use would confess to say we know a lot about whiskey but we know enough to get ourselves into trouble. Form time to time we also like to shake it up and look at other beverages like cocktails, beer or maybe even rums. So give us a listen and we hope you enjoy.

Its normal to think that when you spend more money on a product, you receive a product that has more to offer. Whether it's an economy car vs a luxury car, or maybe cheep plane tickets vs first class. We think at times that justifies shelling out more monkey then maybe we need to.
But when it comes to whiskey, would you be able to pick out a cheep whiskey next to an expensive one? Perhaps your saying reading this thinking " Absolutely, only a complete novice wouldn't be able to tell the difference!"

In the first meeting of "The League of Rotund Men" finished Bourbon is put under the preverbal microscope.
Bourbon is a highly regulated category in the United States. With a number of legal criterias, one of which is the need to be aged in new charred oak containers. Now however with the booming popularity of bourbon finishing, it seems that there is an never ending increases of Bourbons finding their way into more unique finishing barrels.
Today as the current definition stands, any Bourbon that is transferred into a seconded barrel that isn't a new charred oak barrel, would not be legally a Bourbon. This is what leads us to our podcast topic. Should whiskeys that are finished be allowed to still hold on to the name Bourbon for labeling purposes?

March 3 marked the 127th anniversary of the Bottle and Bond Act. In 1897 the act was made into law for the reason to protect consumers from fraudulent whiskey producers and rectifiers.Fast forward to the present, the day of rectifiers have long such passed and many consumers don't know what Bottled in Bond is. Or, if they do know what it is, most won't be able to tell you what it means... This brought a question forward. Is Bottle In Bond Still Relevant?

Three distilleries, Five different whiskies, All one category of whiskey. Can they figure out what they are drinking?

Carter and Dylan compare single barrels to their normal blended counterparts to see if single barrels are always the better version.
The newest release from Yellowstone distillery is totally new mash bill for the company. In this review Dylan talks a little about the smell and taste off of this new whiskey but also why you don't see the " Distilled in Kentucky " on the bottle.

Now what if I told you that not only did they have a ten year but also a 14 year old too! Most of us know about the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, commonly referred too as BTAC. Another thing most people know is how difficult it can be to get your hand on one, let alone all 5 unique bottles. With Texas whiskey being so popular its about time we give Balcones, Still Austin and a great many other distilleries our undivided attention. In the same style as the Bourbon Trials they will be trying their Texas whiskeys in increasing ABV (Alcohol By Volume), so give a listen and see if indeed whiskey is bigger and better in Texas.

With Dylan on vacation a new host takes the helm with hot sauce pairings. Each person will pick a few whiskeys to try along side multiple types of hot sauces and as the heat rises they will see how the whiskey changes with the addition of heat.
Same concept as the "Best Bourbon For $20 Or Under Challenge", bur this time of course we have up it to a respectable $30. Rules, no bottles under the standard 750ml but you can have larger, must have proof of that it was $30 or under. Returning from the previous challenge is Wild Turkey 101. With the release of the newest Nick Offerman edition Lagavulin comes the need to evaluate where it stacks up to last years, or better yet the glorious Lagavulin 16. Zach and Dylan try the three side by side to see should you deviate from the already near perfected 16 year?

With Scotch being soooo expensive we set out a Scotch $20 that isn't complete poop. Like in the $20 bourbon challenge we try these whisky's blind.
One of Ardbeg's newest release Arrrrrrrdbeg is commemorating the retirement of the distillery's manager, Micky. We mix this newest release in to the core line which include the 10 year, An Oa , Corryvreckan and Uigeadail. Then we of course blinded the lot of them to see how Ardbegs Arrrrrrrdbeg holds up.
Zach, Carter and Dylan each make a unique blend then blind each other. The winner will take home prestigious custom etched Glencairn whiskey glass that the losers will have to pay for.
Not much to say but, Wow. This expression from Bruichladdich is really something special, the eighth edition in the series. This 26 year old un-peated whisky was put into its cask in 1994 and until very recently was dumped then bottled at cask strength of only 45.1% ABV.
Dylan goes to the store and spends big bucks for this episode. Zach and Carter are blinded on the Kentucky Owl batch 3 rye and Whistle Pig 10 that is also a store pick bottled at cask strength.
Carter and Dylan face off to settle the ago old 3 day dispute. Who gets to keep the J Henry Patton Road bottle? In this episode Zach will be testing Carter and Dylan on an number of blind whiskeys, to see who really knows their stuff.
Carters Blinds the guys on his newest purchases in whiskey. None of which we have ever had the privilege to try until now. Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit, Glen fohdry mizunara oak plus others that Dylan brought is on the menu for this episode.
Zach, Carter and Dylan each buy a single barrel bourbon that's under 100 proof. They had samples made up and mix up before receiving the whiskey, no one knows which one is theirs nor do they know their opponents.
On this episode the guys select a cocktail to highlight. They then make and try each others creations to determine of the three, who made the best mixed drink.
Dylan blinds Zach and Carter on Cask Strength Rye whiskey, to try and find the best for the buck.
When you think of Cake, Scotch and Enola Gay what comes to mind? Well it just so happens that this episode of the EOGP will help to render those images. The guys try some very fine Scottish whiskies, a few of which are very verry old.
The guys taste the newest edition of Midwinters Nights Dram and Oh what a Night it was...
In this episode we visit a friend who knows a little bit more about wine, then we do our selves. Mostly we try to find a red red wine that makes us feel a million dollars, and that is good and cheep. For the most part we do, but with one exception.
Everyone brings a bottle that costs $20 or less and it can't be less then a 750ml size bottle. Other than that the guys are free to bring anything that they choose. We also don't know in what order we will be tasting the Bourbon or what the other person has brought.
As this is the last video in the Bourbon Trial series, the guys pick back up at the 57% alcohol mark and try to get to the finishing point. They also pick their personal favorites from the last two episodes and review what was worth the price and what was not
Dylan, Zach, and his sister, Indy dive into some fine examples of the popular relaxing beverage, Tea. Prepare to be astounded at our sipping noises and stick with us until the end for a special experiment!
In the third part of the Bourbon Trials the guys tackle whiskeys above the 100 proof mark. There's talk of sport ball and fantasy football drafts, but mostly just a couple of guys talking Bourbon whiskey.
We buy and try hard to find whisk(e)y's. The guy's go on a trip to find the unicorn's of the whiskey world, but they only came back with this stuff. Carter and Dylan talk about comparing apples to pears or something like that and also talk about what they feel is worth the $$$.
The Guys talk about past camping trips, the whisky they brought and what they each think is the best whiskey to bring camping.
The guy's are back from their break and here to finish the whiskeys at the 100 proof level. There will be stories told and whiskey to behold, new favorites found and just some all around bad ones.
