“He upholds the universe by His word of power.” (Hebrews 1:3)
Hey Momma - I see you. Sometimes we just need to be reminded, "You are NOT the one who holds the universe together." We often can feel the weight of what feels like the entire world on our shoulders. If we don't show up, clean up, cook up, and train up at all times, the world as we know it will collapse around us. But this is a LIE- a lie I all too often find myself believing. But I am here to remind you, as the Catechism tells us, " God’s providence means He cares for everything—from the smallest details to the biggest events (CCC 303). Nothing exists outside His sustaining will (CCC 301). We are not the source of order, but rather participants in God's care.

"When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. And he said to them, 'I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.'" Luke 22: 14-16
How wild is it that Jesus eagerly desired to be with the apostles just before he was about to suffer, unlike any human has ever suffered. Do we also eagerly desire communion, or do we get distracted by the duties, fears, and daily stresses of our lives? This is an invitation this week to rest in God's desire to be with us so that we too can live out a life desiring communion with both the loves in our life, as well as, and most importantly, with God himself!

This week, I explore the hidden truth that our nothingness is everything! We can do nothing without God and yet everything with him. In this, it draws us to our knees and reminds us of who we are! And yet, God in his graciousness created us through love and for love.
The world tempts us into the dangers of pride (the beginning of all vices), but Christ invites us to living a life of humility (the beginning of all virtue) and littleness.

Hey friends! This week I chat about an old saying that my priest shared in a recent homily. "Do your duty, but do not concern yourself with the results." Although this may seem counterintuitive because we know that our end goal is to love our people into heaven, we must learn to be obedient to all God calls us to, without being attached to the results. This gives us the space within our hearts to allow God to be the leader of our lives, the lives of our spouses and those of our children! It isn't easy momma, but I promise you it is beautifully freeing to lay it all into the hands of our Heavenly Father!

We are balancing managing diapers and driver's ed classes, while also tending to toddler meltdowns and the big needs of our growing young adults. This, my friends, is a trying season. But a season where God has the capacity to do some of his greatest pruning and trimming on our hearts. May we ever be transformed!

What if instilling the faith in our youth was not simply about ensuring they attend Mass and check off the sacrament boxes? What if instead we shared the faith on a more intimate level, bringing in faith and fun through a more engaging medium?
Kelsey has piloted an incredible youth program for teens to encourage them to encounter Christ on a more personal and frequent basis. Catholic Pathfinders has been designed to equip our teens far beyond their Confirmation, so they will have a lifelong journey of following Jesus Christ!

This week I speak to the heart of the working momma! Somehow, many of us have bought into the lie that to be a good momma, you should not work. However, time and time again, God has revealed that his path towards holiness is divinely unique for every one of us. It isn't about what we do; work, stay-at-home, public school, private school, or homeschool, but rather how we do it. Is our heart oriented towards heaven? Are we leaning into the magnificence of our vocation with a deep desire to love our children well, regardless of how we do it? Do we know the eternal impact of shepherding our children back to him?

“ For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11.
This week I speak to the educating momma heart. Whether your children attend a public school, private school, or are homeschooled, we, parents, are the first educators of our children. The Catechism of the Catholic Church says "Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children. They bear witness to this responsibility first by creating a home where tenderness, forgiveness, respect, fidelity, and disinterested service are the rule."
The world consistently distracts our kingdom-set hearts with the values of our culture. Fear sets in, and we begin to make idols of our children's success. How's their math, their reading, their scores? And though we want our children to be resourceful, articulate, and critical thinkers, we must remember that educating them in virtue and character is the primary goal of our own schools of love!

Mother, Bride, Sister, Colleague, Friend...these are identities and roles many of us play and have been called to. But what if one of the hurdles we have that keeps us from fully living the divinely appointed vocations we are called to is that we often forget that we are FIRST daughter.
We can often feel overwhelmed by all of our daily responsibilities and duties. So many people rely on us that we can frequently lose sight of our belovedness, of our first and eternal identity as daughters. Momma, friend, you are first his most precious daughter.
When we are able to rest, live, and love sitting under the care and gaze of our heavenly Father, we become more free to love fully those around us.

This week I take a look at what it truly means to "gentle parent." I believe there is a big misunderstanding about what gentle parenting means, often leaving parents to believe that in order to be a gentle parent, we must never let our children get upset or disappointed. But my dear friends, gentle parenting does not mean passive parenting. No, we are called to train up our children in the way they should go, and with guidance, boundaries, and expectations, we can do this with a gentle love.

Y'all, this was such a treat of a conversation for me. I sat down with Heidi Bratton this week to discuss how God calls us to a kindness that beautifully expresses our maternal love. Yet, as Heidi so beautifully writes in her She Loved letter - we often fall into the trap of believing the lie that we must decide between efficiency OR kindness when living out our maternity. But what if kindness is always the answer, regardless of whether or not we tend to the duties of the day with efficiency.

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. Take to heart these words that I give you today. Repeat them to your children. Talk about them when you’re at home or away, when you lie down or get up. Write them down, and tie them around your wrist, and wear them as headbands as a reminder. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates." Deuteronomy 6:5-9
It isn't enough to simply have them follow the orchestrated and organized motions of their faith. Instead, we mommas are called to teach our children to love God with all of their hearts, all of their souls, and all of their strength. To love God means to spend time with him. Praying is our most intimate way of communicating with the King of the World. But what if simply telling our children to pray is not enough? What if we need to witness what it means to have a personal relationship with God and teach our children the fruit and gift of talking with Jesus.

Have you ever stopped, paused, and considered the question—Why are we educating them? Of course, we want to equip them with the skills and knowledge to be mature and wise adults. Sure, we desire to help launch them into a career that will bless their future selves. But is this our end goal, my friends? No!
Pope Piux XI reminds us that we are doing much more than simply training their minds; instead, we are shepherding them into becoming the saints they were called to be. Are you living a radical life? We often hear that we should live radically for the Lord and can be tempted to think we are just too weak for this kind of life. "Jesus I can't sell everything, or start an orphanage, or create a new ministry! I'm too simple and small!!" But what if we have it all wrong? What if living radically for the Lord may not seem radical at all. What if living radically for Christ is really a call to live and love fully; to love the person in front of you, to be generous with mercy, to forgive seventy times, to be gracious to strangers, to be open to life, to lay down your life in service to others every single day.

Okay my lovely friends, let's talk about motherhood. Truth is motherhood is magnificently beautiful, wonderfully life-giving, and remarkably heroic. But the truth ALSO is that it is back-breakingly HARD. But in a world that tells us that hard equals bad, we can often find our hearts filled with despair when we experience the hardness of our vocations. But what if hard doesn't equal bad, but rather sanctifyingly good? What if the shame we experience when the hard swallows us is just a nasty tool of the enemy? What if the Lord desires that we meet him in these hard places and let Him pour His mercy, compassion, and love on our weary hearts?

"Jesus entered the synagogue. There was a man there who had a withered hand. They watched Jesus closely to see if he would cure him on the sabbath so that they might accuse him. He said to the man with the withered hand, “Come up here before us.” Then he said to the Pharisees, “Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath rather than to do evil, to save life rather than to destroy it?” But they remained silent. Looking around at them with anger and grieved at their hardness of heart, Jesus said to the man, “STRETCH OUT YOUR HAND.” He stretched it out and his hand was restored.
In order to be healed, Jesus asked the man to OPEN his hand. Perhaps, the Lord is waiting for us to stop clenching our tight hands, and instead to open them up to the healing grace God has in store for us.

Is your fire for the Lord something that draws the hearts of others toward communion with him? We often get caught up in the determination to pass on our faith to those that we love, that our “accomplishment” of this goal can mistakenly become our focus. We can lose sight of the fact that simply loving the people in front of us is our faith alive, a faith that draws others to the heart of Christ.

This week I reflect on the importance of our children KNOWING we think they are as awesome as they are! All too often we can focus in on training our children to become the people God created them to be, that we lose sight of blessing them as they are now. Our criticisms and complaints run the risk of leaving our children without their sense of worth, simply for being ours. Just as God blesses us with his love and compassion, simply because we are his, we too should ensure our children know and receive our blessings over them.

It was a treasure for my own heart to reflect upon the unique workings of the Holy Spirit in each of our lives.
All too often we believe the lie that the pathway to holiness is to plan it all out, muscle up the effort, and white knuckle our way towards virtue and sainthood. However, Father Jacque Philippe makes it abundantly clear that it is in fact much simpler than that. He discusses that holiness is produced by the openness and obedience to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

How often do we serve our children, our spouses, our friends, with a hidden (or not-so-hidden) grumbling inside? Do we complain as we go about our tasks of the day, or do we surrender the present moment to the will of God? This week we wrap up our miniseries on accompanying Mary through the Advent season by reflecting upon her silent surrender. This new and yet docile mother allowed God to lead the way as she gave birth in a stable and laid her newborn son in what once was a feeding trough for the animals.
But it wasn't merely her ability to quietly surrender to God's will in the difficulties of her story that made her silent surrender something to be awed at. No, Mary quietly surrendered even with the miraculous and glorious reception of all that is good. For, even after the shepherds declared all that the angels had told them about the birth of the Messiah, Mary "treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart"

You guys! I am so excited to kick off our series on Mothering with a RED Heart. This has been a topic that has been in the depths of my soul for some time. What does it mean to mother with a RED Heart?
Today we will discuss the meaning of pouring out our lives for our children for the love of Christ like the martyrs who gave their lives in death for their faith. We need to remain steadfast in dying to ourselves.
In addition, this is a call to let God transform the hardened places of our hearts into fleshy and vulnerable places of love. One of the most beautiful things we can do is to let our hearts be fleshy as God commands so that it has the capacity to be touched and loved, so we are freely able to trust, love, and comfort others - specifically our own children.
In the following weeks, we will dive into this idea of mothering with a RED heart in greater detail as we explore the following:
R - receive
E - embrace
D- disciple

With the new school year beginning, I think it is essential that we sit back and remember to rest in our "why". I have received a number of homeschooling questions recently, and though we could get swept away in discussing specific curriculums, rhythms, and schedules, I think it is important that we remember why God has called us here. With this truth set before our eyes, we will have the freedom of heart to release the grasp of checklists, accomplishments, and to-dos, and instead, adventure, explore, learn, and delight!

Two things, only two things. He could have said anything, so much that he would have wanted us to mirror. He could have included “patient”, “courageous”, or “obedient”. But though he calls us to all of these, it is no coincidence that he said two important things. “Learn from me for I am meek and humble of heart” - Matthew 11:29.

We often grasp on tight to the walls of life in fear of all that lies ahead and all that has come before. We walk in the dark unsure of which way to go. How can we move forward when we can't even see our own feet in front of us? This is where the treasure of total abandonment comes in...

This week Johnna and I continue our summer series book study on Abandonment to Divine Providence. One of the struggles and traps of the Christian life is this deep sense of being far away from living the virtuous and spiritual life that God desires for us. When we recognize our frailty, and our sinful nature, we can mistakenly think this is a call to fix and 'perfect' our broken ways. Though we are called to turn away from sin and towards God, we can jump into control mode and block the way for Jesus and his graces to work in our life. In fact, Jean-Pierre De Caussade reminds us that maybe, just maybe, this is precisely the place where God wants us.

There is a subtle temptation to live out our faith in order to Keep Up with the Catholics , and yet it is for God's heart alone that we are called to keep up with. Join me today as I discuss this dangerous trap we are all vulnerable to falling into if we do not guard our hearts and minds.

Many of us have been hardwired to live from a scarcity mindset; the belief that we must grasp what is ours because our time, finances, worth, and relationships are limited and fleeting. Yet, this is not the Gospel.
We must remember that God is a God of Abundance and therefore we must trust that he will bless our life abundantly. What that looks like is only to be determined by His Divine Providence. And to experience the joy of God's abundant grace, we must listen to Mary's words when she reminds us to "Do Whatever He Tells You."

What if the pathway to holiness is to do what you are already doing, and endure what you are already enduring? The duties of the present moment are shadows that hide the action of the Divine Will. Just as the disciples declared “It is the Lord!,” when recognizing Jesus after the resurrection, we too should let this be the cry of our hearts in every present moment.
Every duty, every suffering, every joy, every dance, every fight, every need, every request is God calling. IT IS THE LORD. He is ever present with us in everything. Clothed in a veil of the present moment, we are invited to say “Welcome Lord…here I am…be it done unto me!"

I chatted with the lovely Nancy Bandzuch from Catholic Sprouts this week about standing in truth. How do we share the truth of the Gospel with our children when the world often says something different? We must not be afraid to armor up, to shepherd our children in LOVE, which is truth itself, and to be guardians of their hearts.

Hours before his death, the Good Thief took a radical course of action and confidently cried out for Christ's mercy: "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom" - Luke 23: 42. Through an incredible moment of confidence in God's goodness, a man who once lived a life of crime became our first known saint. The thief who stole heaven! How often does the enemy lock up our hearts in fear and shame? We walk around with a massive wall, built brick by brick with our own hands, that tragically becomes a barrier between Christ and us. This week I continue our Lenten conversation on wounds. The heart heals in many ways similar to that of the body, which is far more complex than we often even realize.
We walk through a simple analogy to explore how the heart heals similarly to the way our body heals a scrape or a cut. The most critical part of our healing journey is to allow the rich oxygen of Christ's love to flow through and to our wounded places so that restoration and healing are possible.
But we must remember that healing itself is NOT the endgame. Rather restoration and redemption serve to make us whole once again, so that we are free to “go in PEACE” and love one another.

Second to being a child of God, our primary vocation on this earth for married individuals is our role as wives (or husbands) . But many of us bring wounds and broken parts of us into our marriage. So how do we love each other through our wounds, both those of us with deep places to be healed, and those of us who love our spouse who carries wounds that need healing.

It can be a painful process to open ourselves up to healing our deep wounds. In fact, it can feel like an insurmountable task to love and tend to the needs of the little souls in our homes while we are knee-deep in our healing journey. And yet, there is an unearthly joy that we may receive by meeting Christ in these very intimate and raw places. So how do we love through our wounds?

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2
Our crosses and our sufferings can create a sense of isolation and loneliness in the depths of our hearts. We secretly fear and believe that no one struggles in the way that we do. And though our crosses are often unique to our own path of sanctification, we must remember that in this imperfect world, EVERYONE SUFFERS.
In fact, Christ guaranteed that "In this world you will have trouble," but he also tells us to take heart for he has "conquered the world!" - John 16:33. One of the ways in which we have the strength to endure the struggles of this world is to do it with others. St. Paul tells us that we were never meant to carry our burdens alone. Rather, through carrying each other's burdens we are able to taste and see the love of Christ. And merely knowing we are not alone in our burdens, the weight of our crosses may slowly begin to lighten.

If "through the devil’s envy death entered the world" (Wisdom 2:24), it should be no surprise to us how competition and envy can kill friendships. However, there are ways in which we can combat the enemy's trap and live within life-giving sisterhoods.

Ladies, it is time we get vulnerable!
I firmly believe that there is a massive poverty of love in our world today because we live behind a dark cold cloak of protection. We guard and hide ourselves from being seen and thus starve from the lack of nourishment and encouragement that being fully known and loved would provide.
St Maximilian Kolbe speaks to the importance and gift of friendship when he says "God sends us friends to be our firm support in the whirlpool of struggle. In the company of friends, we will find strength to attain our sublime ideal.”
How can we attain the strength to move towards all that is good, beautiful, and true, if we have left our truest selves hidden behind a wall of perfectionism and performance? In the safety of a loving friend, God desires to give us the strength to persevere through the struggles of life.
My friends, it is time we get VULNERABLE!

Organizations are in the business of managing people and processes. However, the dignity of the human person in the context of relationships was never something that was meant to be managed. In fact, when God asked us to shepherd his children in love, he never asked us to manage them. Instead, he asks us to train them up in the way they should go; toward a life lived loving, serving, and glorifying God in this life so they may live with him forever in the next.

What if you want to build your house upon rock, but it was already built on sand? Many of us have foundations built upon the unstable grounds of sand. It leads to cracks in our walls, windows that won't shut, and uneven flooring. Yet, God is a God of restoration, transformation, and rebuilding.
Let God come in and transform your grainy sand into solid rock, the most perfect Rock, God himself!

We can often find ourselves relating to Psalm 102:2 "Do not hide your face from me in the day of my distress. Incline your ear to me; answer me speedily in the day when I call"
We can feel utterly alone and abandoned by God when we suffer, struggle, and hurt. We can feel as though he has turned away from us, leaving us to drown in the raging seas. Yet, it is precisely in these times that the King of the world draws closer than ever.
"Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will SUSTAIN you. I have made you and I will CARRY you; I will sustain you and I will RESCUE you. " Isaiah 46:4

Happy New Year! One of my all-time favorite Bible verses has been ringing in my ears for years; "Be Still and Know that I am God" - Psalms 46;10. Yet, this isn't some simple reminder to know who God is, but rather it is a direct command by the King of the World to first BE STILL before we can fully know God.
This week I discuss the word that God has called my heart to focus on this year: Hush. As an extrovert, podcaster, and one who loves to chat with others, it is no surprise that God calls me to a quiet hush as he teaches me, teaches all of us, how to be stilled in Him. There is a constant call placed upon the heart of each of us to still our hearts in Christ. In fact, this a continuation of the main mission here at Latte & Laundry, which is to journey towards stilling our souls while moving our world. Learning how to sit still at the feet of Christ like Mary, while moving in this world like Martha.

You guys!!! Here we are at episode 100. I am so honored and humbled that God thought I could be worthy of journeying alongside each of you.
This week we talk about an important truth - the truth that MOTHERHOOD IS HEROIC!
The venerable Fulton Sheen so profoundly said: “It is well known that women are capable of far more sustained sacrifice than men; a man may be a hero in a crisis, and then slip back to mediocrity. He lacks the moral endurance which enables a woman to be heroic through the years, months, days and even seconds of her life, when the very repetitive monotony of her tasks wears down the spirit. Not only a woman's days, but her nights- not only her mind, but her body must share in the Calvary of motherhood. That is why women have a surer understanding of the doctrine of redemption than men have: they have come to associate the risk of death with life in childbirth, and to understand the sacrifice of self to another through the many months preceding it."
I pray this quote and this episode breathe life into your beautiful and heroic motherhood heart!

As we near Christmas, I was overwhelmed by the fact that we often miss the opportunity to be captivated by the King of the world. The shepherds and the Magi were all captivated by a tiny baby wrapped in swaddling cloths, but how many people likely passed by the stable without any reverence for the Glory of all that took place in the arms of a virgin and a carpenter?
We too have the glory of God set out before us in the Eucharist, in the inner souls of those around us, and in our own hearts, and yet how often do we pass by without a care in the world?
Let us be like the Magi, like the shepherds, and be CAPTIVATEDby our Lord.

Are you weary? Do you feel like your efforts to mother well, or love well, are often a lost effort? When we are deep in the trenches of motherhood, we often can not see the fruit of all of our work. It can feel overwhelming when our days and weeks of disciplining and training up our children run into each other with little realization of the beauty that takes place in our home.
God tells us in Luke 21:19 that "By your perseverance, you will secure your lives!" But do we believe it? This week, I pray that we can all trust enough that we persevere through the difficult and the hard, so we may have the grace and joy of recognizing the beauty and fruit which God plans to bring forth from all of the Yeses we say to the work He has laid out before us.

We are called on a weekly, daily, and minute-by-minute basis, to die to ourselves. Die to our selfishness, die to our plans, die to our will, and instead become fully alive as God has so wonderfully designed us.
But how we die is the big question! Do we drag our feet, begrudgingly complain, and fall apart at the seams? Or like the leaves in the fall, do we die so beautifully that we glow with the love and wonder of the Creator of Life himself?
"Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him" John 12:24-26

It can often feel overwhelming or intimidating when we realize that we too, sinful and all, have been called to glorify God through our lives. And yet, most of our saint-making is often done in the hidden places.
As Saint Faustina once said, "Jesus loves hidden souls. A hidden flower is the most fragrant. I must strive to make the interior of my soul a resting place for the Heart of Jesus."

Knowing God and knowing of God are not the same thing.
"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me" Matthew 7:21-23
We may subconsciously believe that the fact that we know a lot about our Savior means we know our Savior. And yet, the Lord desires for us to know him deeply and personally.
Through His living Word, God has revealed his true character. Our Lord is a merciful, just, compassionate, gracious, good, and loving God. He is infinitely wise and perfect and reveals himself so beautifully when we take the time to invite him into a personal relationship with him.
Let us grow in greater communion with our most perfect God so that when we leave this earth He will say to us "Yes, I knew you!"

Okay, my friends, we discuss the divinely designed reality of tears this week. Tears, especially those of our little children, can sometimes trigger an emotionally intense response. Our hearts may race, our palms might sweat, and we may suddenly feel an anxious compulsion to fix the pain and eliminate the tears.
And yet, God in his most perfect wisdom,designed the human heart to release an exterior expression of our interior world through tears. Though it hurts us to watch others in pain, the tears of our child should signal an opportunity to love and connect. So rather than wanting to shut down tears as soon as they start, let us run to the tear-filled child, wipe their eyes, listen to their heart, and connect.

"When Jesus heard of the death of John the Baptist, he WITHDREW in a boat to a DESERTED place by himself."
As I have been experiencing my own places of deep sorrow and pain, I couldn't help but be surprised and inspired by Christ's own example of walking through pain.
Jesus did not merely retreat to hide from authorities. No, I believe, that even the wounded heart of the King of the Universe is moved to moments of needed solitude. He wept at the death of Lazarus, and withdrew once learning of the death of John the Baptist.
Christ, himself, shows us the authenticity and necessity of the human heart. It may shed tears and withdraw or retreat to tend to the broken wound of pain and sorrow. BUT, this is not where He remained. No, "his heart was moved" for the hurting needs of others...so he loved and served.We, too, are called to love like Christ. When we are in the deep heavy waters of pain and sorrow, it may just be the capacity to still love and serve others that will draw us out of hiding and wipe away our tears. And when our heart's capacity multiples, like the fishes and loaves, it may just be the secret little miracle God is working in us.
This week we wrap up our final episode of I Believe in Love, by discussing the final chapter - Jesus, Mary, and the Saints.

“ In our days, how many plans we make, little calculations - very often unconscious, I must say - which are made simply to avoid suffering!” parents want to protect their children. Are we doing a disservice to our children - whether our own children, our grandchildren, or other children in our lives - by not allowing them to suffer? How can we teach them to suffer gracefully?

As we continue our book study on I Believe in Love, we explore what it means to live the life of an apostle. Father Jean says, "To be an apostle is to give Jesus to souls and souls to Jesus by making Him known in order to make Him loved, by filling yourself with Him in order to give Him, according to the beautiful definition of Father Mateo, 'An apostle is a chalice full of Jesus which overflows onto souls.'
I'm not sure about you friends, but my heart greatly desires to be this chalice full of Christ himself, which overflows onto others.
Discussion Questions:
- "You know that the prayer of prayers is the Mass; perfect adoration, perfect expiation, perfect thanksgiving, it is also perfect supplication of the immolated Jesus; it is the dearest treasure of the apostolate." How is the Mass a "treasure" for you? How can attending Mass with a surrendered disposition, no matter how chaotic this busy season of life is, be a source of great treasure for those with littles?
2."He Himself needs others, because He wishes to use them as His instruments...So many diverse fields of activity are open today to those who want to be apostles." How are you currently being used as an instrument for Christ? Do you desire to be used more? In what way?
- How can you use prayer and suffering to be an apostle for the Church?
“Learn from me because I am meek and humble of heart.” Father Jean points out that here, in Matthew 11:29, it is the only time that Jesus explicitly tells us to learn from him. And why? To show us that fraternal charity doesn’t begin with money in our pockets, or time spent to serve, but instead if starts from the posture of our hearts, a meek and humble posture.
This week Sara Hunter and I continue our book study conversation of I Believe in Love, on the most recent chapter on Fraternal Charity.

This week, Sara and I dive head first into Chapter 5 of I Believe in Love , and we discuss the hidden importance of having a thirst and desire for Christ. This can seem intimidating, especially when we can become so aware of our broken and sinful ways. Yet, it is often precisely through an acknowledgment of our own littleness, as St. Therese so beautifully lived out, that sets our hearts in the direction of a fiery desire for communion with God.
Discussion Questions:
- “ How many souls I have that you have experienced these beautiful enthusiasms, yet, in admitting their weakness, their apparent mediocrity, their lack of progress, have let themselves little by little be overrun by discouragement.” Has this happened to you? Is there a desire you have about which you feel discouraged?
2.” A ravishing form of humility is simplicity. It is the charm of those who know how to put themselves in their proper place and are not puffed up in their own eyes.” Can you think of someone in your own life who can be described this way? In what way can you imitate them?
- “ It is a duty for you to spread this sweet and joyful peace around you… Not like judges of peace but like angels of peace.” How can you be an angel of peace in your home, at work, at school, toward a stranger?
Today we continue with conference 4, or chapter 4, of I Believe in Love on Abandonment in Jesus.
Webster Dictionary defines abandonment as “an unrestraint, or being uninhibited.” This is precisely how Jesus desires that we come to him; with a radical, unrestrained, and uninhibited reckless trust and love. But practically speaking what does this look like?
Father Jean says “Practically speaking, it consists of seeing the will of God in all that creatures and events present to you” and as St. Francis de Sales says it is to ‘ask nothing and refuse nothing’

God refused the prayer of St. Monica for her son St. Augustine, in order to answer her greater prayer (see pages 101-102). Have you seen similar circumstances in your life (failures or victories)? Has this increased your trust and abandonment in God?

How easy and often we can become discouraged at our continued sinful nature. When we run to Christ with the same tears of sorrow and regret we can be tempted to think, “Aren’t you tired of me God?” But the short answer is NOT EVEN CLOSE! When we distrust his forgiving heart we subconsciously limit his mercy.
Yes, we must know and acknowledge our weakness and limitations, BUT with unshakable confidence of knowing we are loved through the merciful lense of God’s perfect heart.

This episode we kick off the first chapter of our Book Study on I Believe in Love. We begin our first conference diving into the simplicity, yet profound power of love. I am so delighted that my dear friend, Sara Hunter, is joining us this summer to explore the beautiful teaching of St. Therese in more depth.

One of the greatest secrets to experiencing the joy of Christian living is tasting the goodness of detachment. From a secular perspective, detachment is simply the opposite of attachment. Yet, our Catholic faith speaks of the hidden mystery of detachment when it expresses it as a simple disposition of indifference. Indifference can often imply not caring about, a coldness or lack of compassion, but in truth it is merely "the absence of compulsion to or toward one thing or another." A simple surrender to the objects, events, circumstances, and people in our lives, allows space for our will to grow towards meeting the will of our heavenly Father's.
Join me this week as I discuss my own journey in detachment, and how we can all learn to be indifferent to anything but the Father's most perfect love for us!

Each child is uniquely and perfectly crafted by our Heavenly Father. In order to be free to receive the peace of Christ we must strip ourselves of anything that steals our capacity to love. God gently says “live simply so you can simply love”

Guilt and shame are often used interchangeably, yet they are two very different emotions:
“Guilt is a feeling you get when you did something wrong, or perceived you did something wrong. Shame is a feeling that your whole self is wrong, and it may not be related to a specific behavior or event”
Guilt can be a good that leads us to regret, repair, and reconciliation, often sending us into the arms of Christ, while shame is often accompanied with darkness and a disposition that turns our hearts away from God.
My Cup Overflows: ”For it is out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks.” -Luke 6:45
What is it that we are filling our hearts and minds with? Is our cup full of dirty water that has been muddled with anger, resentment, comparison or greed, so that when the world bumps us , which it will, this is what comes spilling out? Or are we taking the time to fill our cup with all that is good, beautiful, and true so when our mouth speaks only the pure clean water of God’s goodness pours out?
Join me as I contemplate the importance of paying attention to what we take in, so we can bear fruit with what we pour out!

The enemy who goes by many names, such as the Liar, the Deceiver, or the Prince of Darkness, often goes by another name. In fact, we must be careful to refuse his attempts to work through US to fulfill this ugly and dangerous role - the Accuser.
Most of us know that we are called to love and will the good of those which God has placed in our path; our children, spouses, and the people in our lives. Yet, oftentimes we become so consumed with the weight of playing a role in forming our children that we end up becoming more critical and judgmental than we are called to be. The enemy knows how much we love our children, so he begins to use fear, worry, and control to deceive us into becoming the accuser in their lives.
But the enemy is ever more sneaky when he climbs through the back door of our hearts through our own self-doubt and self-shame, making us the darkest accusers of our own souls! We don’t recognize him, and in turn end up denting our own God-given goodness and beauty.
We must be on guard to reject the Father of Lies and instead allow Love and Truth HIMSELF to consume our hearts!

God gives us the opportunity to give him our fiat hundreds of times each day. Mary gave us the most perfect example of a humble, tender, and trusting fiat when she accepted God’s will for her life when The Annunciation took place. Yet, this was not Mary’s only “Yes” that she presented to our Lord. No, in fact Mary ‘s whole life was one long fiat where she lived out a perfect acceptance of and cooperation with God’s plans.
We too have the opportunity to present our Lord with our fiats on a daily basis and parenthood simply provides us with an even greater exponential level of opportunities to give our yes, and to cooperate with gods plans for our lives.

I have recently received a number of questions from listeners around my own personal homeschooling journey with my children. So I wanted to take the time to share my experience and what has worked well for our family.
But friends, please remember that God’s perfect design for each of us, our children, and our homes is uniquely crafted for our families. Though I love to share my own wonderful experience, my greatest advice is to pray over what God desires for your family and your schooling plans, let Him take the lead and trust that He is the perfect Father who is holding you in his hands no matter which way he takes you!!!
At the end of the day my goal is not to raise the most successful children, but to cultivate a family culture of love, adventure, curiosity, and exploration! I want them to be firmly grounded in God’s love through the expression of our familial love, so that they will become critical thinkers and love multipliers!

This week we wrap our Lenten series on the Sorrowful Mysteries, with the Crucifixion of Christ. As I was praying on this mystery, I kept reflecting on the pure love and goodness of our Lord Jesus Christ, as he laid down his life for us on the Cross. I was delighted to sit down and chat with my friend Stephanie Weinert about this gift of self-love as well as the grace in grief that our Lord so desires to pour out upon us.
Stephanie shines a light on the truth that we as mothers, whether spiritual or biological, will all experience suffering. Yet, it is through an openness to the goodness of God, amidst the crushing pain, that we may experience the "small trickle" of His joy beneath the grief and sorrow.
This was such a treasure of a conversation for me and I hope it will delight all of your hearts as much as it did mine!

As we continue our Lenten Series this week, my heart has been brought to a place of deep pain and sorrow for all that Christ endured in order to restore our broken relationship with God.
“Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the praetorium, and they gathered the whole battalion before him. And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe upon him and plaiting a crown of thorns they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him they mocked him, saying, 'Hail, King of the Jews!'" (Mt 27:27-29)It isn't easy to endure the worldly ridicule, humiliation, and distrust of our hearts that we can experience in this broken and fallen world. In fact, such experiences can often lead us to anger, resentment, and a desire to retaliate. Yet, this is not the way of OUR King. This is not the path that Christ himself has shown us. God, who became little, small, humble, and flesh himself, endured the greatest level of humiliation and ridicule that this world has ever seen. Yet, rather than speak from a place of anger and outrage, our Lord turned his eyes upon his heavenly father asking him to "Forgive them, for they know not what they do."
Are we able to endure the stings of this world with the merciful, tender, and loving heart that Christ has shared with us? Are we able to rest in the ways that TRUTH himself has shown us?
As we continue through this Lenten season, let's use this as an opportunity to look deeply into our hearts and see if there is anything we are harnessing that rejects the love and mercy that Christ is asking us to share.

I was out on a walk thinking through all the things I want to get done and tend to as I nest for the arrival of our new baby, and suddenly I was struck with the stark reality of what I was investing my heart in.
Our Lord slowly and tenderly pierced my heart in a powerful reminder that motherhood matters. Whether biological or spiritual, who we are as women in the lives of others has profound eternal impacts.
We are heart shapers, way makers, and kingdom multipliers!

We continue our series on the sorrowful mysteries this week with the Scouring at the Pillar. Before sending Jesus to be scourged, Pilate was faced with the choice of standing up for what was right in his eyes, and even more powerfully through his wife's eyes, or caving into the pressure of the crowds.
When Pilate saw "that he was gaining nothing, but rather that a riot was beginning,” he gave in to the pressure to please the crowds, rather than listen to the inner voice that was dying to scream for what is true, just, and right. The King of the Universe was then sent off to be brutally, painfully, and cruelly scourged at the pillar for all to see.
What torture our good God went through at the hands of many and, more specifically in this Gospel reflection, at the hands of one man whose regrettable role in salvation history will live on forever. This isn't merely a painfully sad historical story , but rather a calling for all of us to reflect on during our own journey and to recognize where we too may have turned our backs on Christ in order to please others.
This one is another meaty one for my own heart as I journey hand in hand with Momma Mary and move ever closer towards Christ.

Today, we kick off our Lenten Series on the Sorrowful Mysteries. I have been wanting to enter into a deeper reflection and look at the beautiful mysteries of the Rosary for quite some time. I couldn't think of a more fitting time to dive headfirst into exploring the sorrowful mysteries than Lent itself.
The agony in the garden gives us a real look into the vulnerable and authentic humanness of Christ. With deep sorrow and pain, Jesus falls with his face to the ground and prays to God the Father to take this cup of suffering from him. This is something we can all relate to. We are often faced with great pain and agony and find ourselves pleading in prayer to our Heavenly Father to take our current suffering away. Yet, even knowing the excruciating steps of calvary, the pain of the cross and the weight of death itself, Christ deeply desired to do the Father's will when he says, "Not as I will, but as you will."
This is a beautiful reminder for us all to live as Christ, by surrendering to the most perfect will of our Heavenly Father.
We should find hope and strength in knowing that although it was in a garden that man first broke his relationship with God (Adam), it is through Jesus submitting himself to the Father's will in a garden that man's relationship with God begins to be restored.

Hey friends! This week, we discuss something that has been life-giving in my life. Spending time cultivating rhythm and order may seem silly at first glance, but I have found over the years that family rhythms can be a real source of life for our hearts and souls. St. Paul mentions in 1 Corinthians 14:40 that "all things should be done decently and in order." This is a good reminder to us all, that whether regarding the interior life or the home life, all things should be done decently and with order.
In this episode, I discuss some of my own experiences and family rhythms that have produced a great deal of fruit in our home. I have come to realize that we can instill a sense of honor and contribution into the hearts of our children by shepherding them to learn how to take part in family chores and rhythms. As Helen Keller said, "Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much!"
Yet, even with rhythms and order, it isn’t always easy to look beyond the daily clutter and chaos that family life can often bring. So if you find your heart becoming unsettled with the mess of daily life, look to Proverbs 14:4 to remind your weary heart that, "Where no oxen are, the barn is clean." In this season of motherhood, I will take messy stalls over empty ones any day! Therefore, while there are still little oxen running around our homes, we may just need to surrender our hearts to the mess they may just create in the barn.

Friends, I could not be more excited to share this conversation with you all. Today, I wrap up the prayer series we have been doing with speaker, author, and ministry leader - Jason Evert. We dive headfirst into a very important topic, the last line of the prayer, which is "Rush for Nothing at All!"
What does this mean? When praying through this line, one of my all-time favorite saints kept flooding my heart. Saint John Paul the Great was an exemplary model of never rushing. During his pontificate, Pope John Paul II led a packed schedule of evangelizing the good news. He traveled to over 129 countries keeping his schedule ever busy. But how did this saint, who was always busy, never seem to be in a hurry? It is said that when he spent even just a few fleeting minutes with someone, he left them feeling like they were the only person in the world. His attention, patience, and grace are something that we can all learn from.
Jason has deeply studied and explored the life of this amazing saint, as we can see from his book Saint John Paul the Great: His Five Loves. This book has played a monumental role in my spiritual journey and was the inspiration for this conversation.

There is a universal calling placed onto the hearts of every woman alike to soften our faces and quiet our voices. Rather, some of the strongest women who ever walked the face of this earth had an inner quietness set on Christ that poured out of their voices and faces, leading others to God himself. Momma Mary herself, who "pondered all these things in her heart," exuded incredible strength as her mother's heart was pierced with a sword at the witness of her son's suffering.

This week we dive head first into the first line of the prayer we are exploring: “Break me from the need to control, free me from this bondage.” I couldn’t be more delighted to have had the chance to sit down with my sweet friend and momma mentor, Bonnie Landry, to discuss the idea of letting go of control.
Our weary souls are often grasping tightly to as much control as we can maintain because we subconsciously believe it will bring order, rhythm and freedom to our days. However, God comes right into the depths of our hearts to crush our false beliefs, and to reveal that it is through a surrendering trust in him and letting go of control that we experience an unearthly freedom we didn’t know possible.

This week we kick off a new series that is very near and dear to my heart with a very special guest, Father Mark-Mary, CFR. The series relates to a prayer that our Lord placed on my heart a year ago. Over the next few weeks, we will be diving into the various components to this prayer:
"Lord, break me from the need to control
Free me from this bondage.
Soften my face, quiet my voice,
and let me rush for nothing at all!"
But before diving into each piece, I wanted to kick start our series by exploring the idea of Hearing the Voice of God in our hearts. We seek to know God's will in the tiny heart movements of our lives (such as the above prayer) as well as the big life-changing decisions. But how do we do this? I am so elated to have Father Mark Mary share some beautiful wisdom on discernment, trusting God, and moving forward in making decisions knowing that we are not alone, but that instead our most perfect Father is fully present with us!

This week’s episode was something my own momma heart needed so desperately to hear. After a tear-filled cry to momma Mary, I was reminded that “Newsflash: You are not responsible for your children’s happiness.”
We mommas love our children so profoundly and deeply, that we often carry around a heavy chain of responsibility that was never meant for our shoulders. Instead, our prime duty to our children, is not to ensure their happiness, but rather to simply love them. It isn’t always easy to express our love through word and action amidst the stressors of every day life, yet when we release the weight of their future happiness from our burdened shoulders, we become freer to be stewards of the most perfect love - God’s love itself.
So mommas take this week to relax your weary heart, free yourself from your fears, and simply love!

I had the chance to sit down with my dear friend, and author Dr. Bob Schuchts on the fundamental truth that we all need healing.Dr. Bob is the founder of the John Paul II Healing Center, and is a nationally renowned speaker. Bob is the author of Be Healed: Encountering the Powerful Love of Jesus in Your Life, and Be Transformed: The Healing Power of the Sacraments.
His beautiful wisdom into the human soul and the importance of healing for all of us is profound. We often believe the lie that only people who have experienced outward "trauma" need to look at and address healing. However, Dr. Bob and his team do a beautiful job of shedding light on the fact that living in a sinful world has guaranteed that we have all been wounded and are all in need of deeper healing.
This is an invitation to go deep with Dr. Bob and to prayerfully consider whether or not our Lord is inviting you to greater healing, just as he healed the crippled man who lay by the healing waters in Bethesda for 38 years.
As Sr. Miriam James Heidland often says "Wounds that aren't transformed are transmitted!" Mic drop, and powerful, yet on the flip side there is beauty and hope knowing that the "wounds that are transformed and healed then lead to healing that is transmitted!"

Emptiness- is it as bad as it seems? In fact, it is my word of the year! Now, before you start to worry and feel bad for my weary heart, there is so much in this episode that I would love to share with you about the greater and bigger meaning behind emptiness, that I have only begun to discover.
The word empty which Webster defines as "containing nothing, not occupied or inhabited", is often associated with darkness, loneliness and despair. To feel a deep sense of emptiness can be a terrifying and painful. Yet, I am just starting to scratch the surface as to the true beauty that lies deep within this place of emptiness in the depths of our souls.
It is often right here, in this place of emptiness, when our hearts are free and void of our usual earthly attachments, that our deepest desire for God comes alive. It is in this place that, when our hearts are turned towards our heavenly father, we may begin to taste the goodness of Christ being the only thing truly worthy of filling us up.
So friends, as Father Jacques Philippe explains in his book Time for God, “[Emptiness] purifies our love for God…the Lord never permits us to experience a time of trial unless he intends it to bring more abundant graces once it is over. Do not be discouraged. Persevere!"

Hey Friends! Welcome back to a brand-new season of Latte & Laundry. We open up Season 3 with the start of a new year, 2022. For many of us 2021 was not an easy year. In fact, it was often filled with confusion and anxiety. Yet, through Christ's most perfect example at the wedding of Cana, we can see how the dry and empty can often be transformed into something beautiful and new.
I am so excited to welcome my first guest of Season 3, my very dear friend and fellow podcaster, Bridget O'Boyle. In this episode we discuss how it is precisely in the crushing and pressing, that Christ is often making us into something new, most specifically new wine. New Wine, has been my anthem for the end of 2021, and something I hope to take into 2022 with me.
Join Bridget and I as we discuss so many nuances of Christ's first miracle, turning water into wine, that we can all reflect and pray on.
So friends, as we journey into 2022, as my sweet friend Laura Phelps recently told me, "Stay close to Mary and 'Do Whater He Tells You.'" And remember , just as St. Thomas Aquinas once beautifully said, "Sorrow can be alleviated by good sleep, a bath, and a glass of wine."
In our season finale we are excited about our last topic: Breathing Life into our Children. As parents, we can do so much good for our kids but we can also cause so much damage through our words and actions. We often forget how incredibly important words are, especially for young minds and hearts.
It is our job as parents to love and be patient with our children just as God is so unbelievably patient with us and our many mistakes. Though it's not always easy to uplift and be patient, God is merciful and gives us many opportunities to grow in these virtues.
"With all vigilance guard your heart, for in it are the sources of life. Dishonest mouth put away from you, deceitful lips put far from you."

In this episode we are stripping away and revealing the truth behind the idea of worldly perfectionism. In this day in age we often feel the need to prove ourselves to others, and in trying to fulfill this wayward desire, we forget our true purpose and that is of perfect unity with Christ.
Perfection can have a very negative connotation because it frequently takes over our thoughts and minds like when we put impossible expectations on ourselves: I must be the perfect mother, I must be the perfect wife, no one can see my mistakes and failings or I will have nothing to show for my life. But when this is flipped around and we can put our energy towards the perfection God asks of us, like loving Him above all things, loving our neighbor as ourselves, and striving to be good as our heavenly Father is good, then we can find true joy and peace.
When we stop seeking approval from others and rest our gaze on our heavenly Father, we can finally let go of worldly perfectionism.
"Am I now seeking the favor of men or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still pleasing men I should not be a servant of Christ."
Galatians 1:10

As we wrap up our four 'D' word series we wanted to end with another positive word. What better way to end than with our ultimate calling, being a disciple of Christ.
To be a true disciple of Christ means we follow and imitate His ways and no one else. What we do and say is a reflection of the one that we follow. That is why we have to be so careful about who or what we follow. The world around us draws us into comfort and ease and often times we are tempted to seek out things that make us temporarily happy but Christ has another way.
To be His disciple we must give up everything and follow after Him and to be able to recognize we don't deserve anything from Him because He is the one that has given us everything. That we have hope in what is to come so we need not despair in the present moment even when the darkness is trying to weigh us down. Therefore, no matter what comes our way we can delight in being followers of Christ because even with the cross we know that following Him leads to our victory.

This week we are excited to talk about a powerful word, delight. We are moving from the dangerous words to such powerful words. Our word this week focuses both on how God delights so much in us but also how we are called to delight in everything and everyone around us.
Life can often become impossible to bear and things around us become a blur but when we can stop and delight in things around us it can change us to the core. It draws us outwards and not only changes us but changes those around us. When we stop to delight in our child, they can feel that love and when we notice the little things around us it can turn our darkness into pure joy.
Let the Lord show you how He delights so much in you!

This week we are continuing our four part 'D' word series. Our focus will be on the dangerous word of Despair. Despair is not sadness, grief, or heart shattering pain. It is the "utter loss of hope." (Webster dictionary)
Life will always bring crosses and we have every right to feel sad, angry, and frustrated by what has happened to us. God, however, has given us the great virtue of hope to keep us from despair. Jesus came to be the hope that every heart needs. Christ is hope. He can handle our anger, He hurts for our brokenness, and weeps alongside our tears, but to live in despair means we no longer live in His hope.
Saint John Paul the Great said, "Do not abandon yourselves to despair. We are the Easter people and Hallelujah is our song!"
Lastly, 2 Cor 4:16-18 says:
"Therefore, we are not despair; rather, although our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this momentary light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to what is seen but to what is unseen; for what is seen is transitory, but what is unseen is eternal."

We are so excited to start a new four part series on two dangerous 'D' words and two powerful 'D' words! In this episode we focus on the dangerous 'D' word: Deserve.
It's a word we toss around and use easily and carelessly without giving much thought to what we are proclaiming. Though there are truths to the word, for example, we deserve the right to life, we deserve worth and dignity but when we look at it in other ways, it can be very dangerous to how we view things.
When we focus on Christ and what we deserve from Him or what is owed to us from our spouses or our children we have turned our relationship into a contract over a covenant.
Saint Augustine reminds us that, "In doing what we ought we deserve no praise, because it is our duty."
Christ gave us the example of the prodigal son who certainly did not deserve his father's mercy and love. Worldly standards would say he deserved nothing but God does not see things the way that we do.

This week we were so blessed to spend time chatting with author, speaker, blogger, podcaster, and spiritual mother to many- Sally Clarkson.
Her new book “Help I’m Drowning: Weathering the Storms of Life with Grace and Hope” couldn’t be available at a more critical time in our world today. With the intense political atmosphere, pandemic woes, overseas crisis, new school year and fall activities kicking into gear, Sally’s book so beautifully speaks into the hearts of many.
This world is broken and fallen, yet there is an untouchable hope, a hope beyond measure and His name is Jesus Christ. In this book Sally shares many of her own experiences of suffering and brokenness during her many years of walking with Christ.

This week we complete our series on the Transcendentals with Truth. Truth is the final one we talk about because it tends to be the more difficult of the transcendentals to draw us to God. "The truth will set you free." (Jn 8:32) But the question is, what is truth? In this episode we dive into what truth is: subjective vs objective.
Subjective truth can change based on what my likes and dislikes are while objective truth is unchanging regardless of my feelings towards it. For example, God either exists or He doesn't exist and my feelings and knowledge on the matter do not change the outcome. We can then reasonably say, through revelation and reason, that the truth is: God does exist.

The transcendentals draw us upwards towards our great creator and St. Edith Stein said it best when she said, “anyone who seeks truth seeks God, whether or not he realizes it.”

In this weeks episode we are continuing on to the next transcendental- Goodness. Goodness something that cannot be made or taken away it simply is what is. All being has an innate goodness but we must recognize that though everything has goodness there is a hierarchy to it. Broccoli, for example, does not have the same goodness as a child. They are profoundly different and we cannot compare them at the same level.
In today's society it has become much more difficult to know what is good. What I want/desire is not often what is good. We can find temporary fulfillment in material things or immoral things and confuse that for what is objectively good. To the extent that when someone gives us a healthy sandwich and juice we might think it is actually bad because our desires have been trained to want deep fried Oreos and soda. The Oreos are now the 'good' and the healthy foods for our body are thought to be 'bad'.
The same is true in relationships. What is often good for our relationship is often the hardest thing. For example, I know it is good to be faithful to my spouse, to uplift him, and honor him but my desire might lead me to want to do other things because those things seem 'good' for me in the moment. It is our duty to know what is good and see how that goodness leads us to God- the ultimate Good!

This week we are starting a new series. It's a three part series on the Transcendentals: Beauty, Goodness, and Truth. These transcendentals are properties of all being. They reflect the divine origin of all things and the unity of all truth and reality in God.
This week we are focusing on beauty. Beauty is meant to lead us to the creator of beauty itself- God. It is argued to be the starting point of conversion for many people because it transcends us to see God through the beauty that is found around us.
The beauty seizes you, changes you and then it calls you and sends you on mission”

In this episode we discuss the last of the cardinal virtues: temperance! We are so thankful for all of our listeners for walking through each of these amazing virtues with us. Next week we will wrap up our summer series with an amazing interview with Brother Pius Marie cfr!
The catechism of the Catholic Church so beautifully tells us that "temperance: moderates the attraction of pleasures and provides balance in the use of created goods...it keeps desires within the limits of what is honorable." (1809)
Though the pleasures of the world are not always bad, they can often prevent us from doing what is truly good. This is where temperance is needed because it prevents us from acting on these dangerous urges. It allows us to govern our desires, instead allowing our desires to govern us.Gelato, for example, is not bad and who doesn't desire it? However, if my desire for it is so intense that I miss out on my child's recital because I had to wait in line for 20 minutes to get my delicious gelato then I did not use temperance to reign in these desires. My urges kept me from doing what I ought to have done.

This week we are so excited to talk about the cardinal virtue: fortitude. We were so excited to dive into this topic as it has a lot of significance in both our lives.
Fortitude ensures firmness in difficulties and is constantly pursing the good (CCC 1808).It's so important not only for large moments in our lives but it's necessary in every day actions. It helps us resist temptation, helps conquer fear, face trails and persecutions, and gives strength so we can pursue the good.
Fortitude gave St. Maximilian Kolbe the courage to sacrifice his life for a stranger. Fortitude gives a mother courage to push through those late night feedings with her new born baby because she knows it is right and good even though it can seem like an impossible task. Fortitude is the courage to do what is good even when it isn't easy.

We are back this week continuing our discussion on the cardinal virtues. This week we are focusing on Justice. Though it was a difficult topic for us to explain and even grasp, we truly fell in love with this virtue as it was so different than what we had originally thought.
Justice is the constant and firm will to give our due to God and neighbor (CCC 1807). It has two parts: First, it is knowing what is due to our neighbor. Second, it is taking action of what we know is due to our neighbor. An example that we give is a politician who knows what laws he/she should pass and actually acting on that even if it means losing the next election. This is true justice: doing what is best and right for others.
Truth and moral law are unchanging- we therefore need to look to the laws and teachings of Christ to know our foundation in order to be truly Just**.

In this week’s episode we begin our final summer shorts series on the cardinal virtues. This week we will focus on the virtue: prudence. The cardinal virtues are considered the 'hinge' in which all other virtues come from.
St. Thomas Aquinas tells us that prudence is "right reason in action” meaning it enables you to do the right thing in a particular situation. It is not only knowing what you ought to do but accepting the grace to carry out the action. This can be so difficult. We often know what should be done, but to follow through can often be a true sacrifice. The Saints are great examples of this: St. Teresa of Calcutta would stand up for the poor and dying and her reputation was hurt by this. Those around her didn't agree with what she was doing but it didn't stop her from doing what she knew was right.
Prudence is such a great gift given by God and when all the cardinal virtues are working in harmony, then we can truly live out our lives for Christ.
“Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock."

We will be concluding this week's theological virtue series with the virtue of Love/Charity. This is the the most important of the theological virtues because as St. Paul tells us, faith and hope will pass away but love will remain.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us that "Charity upholds and purifies our human ability to love, and raises it to the supernatural perfection of divine love." We cannot love fully without this gift given to us by God. To love our spouse, our children, family, friends, strangers and most importantly, God Himself, we need this virtue. God is such a good God that He wants to pour this gift down upon us, all we need to do is ask.
**St. Augustine says, “Love is itself the fulfillment of all our works. There is a goal; that is why we run: we run toward it, and once we reach it, in it we shall find rest.”

This week we are exploring the next theological virtue- Hope. This was certainly an unexpected joy to talk about and learn more about. We both were amazed and surprised by how much we learned and fell more in love with this virtue.
Hope sustains in time of abandonment. Hope preserves us from selfishness. Hope leads to happiness that flows from charity. Hope keeps our eyes set on heaven!
The hope we talk about is not a hope in the desires of this world. Instead, it is a hope in eternal life and happiness with the King Himself.
It is the gift of this hope that resides within and provides us the inner peace and joy of knowing that, even in the midst of difficulties and despair, with eyes set on Christ who is hope Himself- all will be well!
"Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They wills oar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not grow faint."

We are kicking off our first virtue of the summer season with the theological virtue: faith. We have been amazed by each of these virtues, learning so much more about that than we realized we could.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church (link to the online version below) has so much wisdom and knowledge about each of the virtues. The Catechism explains that Faith is belief in God and belief in all that He has said and revealed to us (see 1814-1816). Ultimately it comes down to what Christ Himself revealed to us- "I am the way, the truth and the life." (Jn 14:6)

Welcome to our Summer Shorts Series! We are thrilled to be starting something new. This summer we will be sharing short episodes on the virtues. In this first episode we begin with a simple explanation of what a virtue is.
The Catechism says: A Virtue is a habitual and firm disposition to do good (1803).
Virtues require not only good habits but also a participation with divine grace. We cannot have one without the other. Being open to the grace that God so desires to pour into us as well as doing what is right and good leads us to both the theological and cardinal virtues. In the next weeks throughout the summer we will dive more deeply into these virtues.
"Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." Phillippians 4:8

We could not think of a better way to wrap up our podcast season than with an interview with one of our favorite podcasters, Nancy Bandzuch from the amazing podcast: Catholic Sprouts! We couldn't think of anyone more fitting for the wrap up of our series on: Raising Children in the Faith. Nancy and her husband Bill have devoted so much of their lives to promoting this very important concept of the parents being the primary educators in regards to the faith.
Saint John Paul the Great says so simply but so powerfully, "Families, become what you are." We have such a calling to be a light in the midst of the darkness in this world. Whatever your family may look like, no matter how broken you may seem, no matter if you think it's too late to start, God will always provide the grace to help you be who you are meant to be. That grace will radiate from your family and you will be a witness to the world of God's great love and mercy.
Nancy reminds us, raising our families can be messy, painful, and we will fail frequently, but we must bring our children to Christ. This is our calling and our duty. "Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14

We are continuing on in our conversation of raising children in the faith. In this episode we dive into some of the more difficult aspects that we can face in handing on our beliefs to our children. Many of these difficulties are often rooted in the thought that we are not good enough for this task. Once we see this lie for what it is we can have faith in the truth that God has chosen YOU for this mission. No one else is better equipped to raise your children then you. In our conversation we remind ourselves that God will provide all that we need in bringing our children closer to God through our words and examples.
We also look at some of the fears we face as parents: What if my child asks me a question I can not answer? What if I'm pushing my faith on them and it turns them away? What if I'm not a good enough example of living out the faith? What if... What if...This can become crippling and spiral us to then let fear hold us back from doing what God has called us to, to be the most important people in educating our children in the faith and to bring them to His merciful heart.

There is no better way to end our season than with a series on raising our children in the faith. It's such an important topic, and something we are both so passionate about, that we knew we needed a few episodes to cover it. We end our season with an AMAZING interview that you won't want to miss!
Raising children is hard and we crumble, fail, and cry a lot. But if we can remember that God is a God of love and mercy and have that same heart towards our children than we can, by our example, lead them closer to Christ. "We must first create a home where tenderness, forgiveness, respect, fidelity, and disinterested service are the rule." (CCC 2223) God knows we will not be perfect parents but He calls us to pass on the faith to our children and no one can do it more effectively than us! That is truly a difficult task but He equips us with everything we will need."The role of parents in education is of such importance that it is almost impossible to produce an adequate substitute." (CCC 2221)“Your life has a purpose and you have a mission in Jesus... Your mission field begins in your home. Fatherhood is such an important topic and we were delighted to have Tyler Rowley with us to talk about the topic of Fatherhood. The calling and the vocation of fathers is so important and so vital right now and having him with us to talk about this was such a blessing.
Tyler Rowley is the author of a new book called Because of our Fathers: Twenty-Three Catholics Tell How Their Fathers Led Them to Christ. We are so excited to promote this book and talk about what inspired him throughout the process of writing this book.
Fathers have such a great calling to lead their families to Christ by being examples to their children. Tyler found that in his search of strong Catholics to interview for his book, the strongest denominator in each person was that each had a spiritually strong father. What a witness of faith!

A few months ago we were so blessed to give a talk on the topic of Motherhood in Julie’s home town, Madison, Wisconsin. We sadly couldn't be with them in person but were able to join them over zoom and couldn't have been more amazed by all the young adults we were able to meet.
We are so passionate about the topic of motherhood and wanted to share this talk with our listeners. This talk dives into the great calling that mothers have and how to find meaning and purpose within our vocation as mothers in every day life. Yes, even the mundane moments of our day. God calls us to unite every moment to Him and His will and it can seem hard to feel fulfilled in this walk of life but knowing that He has us right where He wants us can help us find hope where we are.
Once we see our calling to motherhood as a vocation, rather than just a job, we can more joyfully enter in but it takes a team. That is why we must recognize that our spouse comes first. When our relationship with our spouse is strong then the family unite feels safe and we can enter more fully into our vocation as mothers. This does not mean that God can't use all family types. He uses every broken, messy, difficult parts of our lives for His good. Through the cross comes the Resurrection so know that He is using you right now, as you are, to be the best parent to your child.

Vocation: “A call from God to a distinctive state of life, in which the person can reach holiness.” The Second Vatican Council made it plain that there is a "Universal call to holiness in the Church." Therefore, it is precisely through living out our vocation in marriage that we find our unique path to holiness.
This week we are excited to wrap up our Marriage series with an amazing guest. We were honored to talk with Alicia Hernon from the Messy Family Project out in Steubenville Ohio. She has a fiery passion for the calling of the Christian marriage and family.
Alicia is a mom of 10 and has been married for 27 years to her wonderful other half, Mike Hernon. Alicia and Mike have an amazing podcast and ministry where they discuss, promote and encourage the importance of faith and family. We are so blessed to have learned so much from Alicia during this recording.
Her core message is that all couples should strive for holiness not by being perfect in every situation but by growing and forgiving but most importantly by relying on God's mercy and grace.

This week we start a new three part series on marriage! We begin by looking at what the Sacrament of Marriage was created for and what God's true intention for it is. Marriage can be beautiful, messy, difficult, and can stretch us in every possible way. Yet, God created marriage to be a saint making machine. If this is where God has called you, then we must remember that the path to heaven and holiness is fully living out our vocation in marriage.
Yet, it isn’t always easy but we can rest our weary hearts in knowing that we are not alone, but instead God has and is pouring out the sacramental graces we need to help our marriage thrive and be a living witness of His love.
There is no higher calling than to bring your spouse to heaven but in order to get each other there we MUST lean on Christ and keep HIM at the center of our marriage. Let Christ carry both of you in the crosses of your life because with Him we can endure all things through His grace.

We had such a great time recording this episode as it was something on both of our hearts. We explore the “When I, Then I” lie. We constantly travel through life believing the lies that only when we obtain our future goals then we will find our happiness. For example: When I get married, then I will be happy. When I have children, then I'll feel complete. When I get that new job or raise, then I'll be able to do what I truly want. Yet, we cannot find happiness and joy simply in waiting for the future and what is to come. We must find meaning in the 'right now.'
When we live in the future, we are wishing away the moments that are set before us by Christ. He asks us to live in the present and to find the grace and beauty given to us at each moment of the day. This does not mean we can't find hope for the future or get excited about what is to come but it CANNOT steal our joy from living in the present.
God is not a God of the past or the future, but instead He is a God of the present. He does not want us to live in the past or the future but to find joy and peace in the moments for where He has us RIGHT NOW.
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

The Lord has risen HALLELUJAH! We have made it through Lent and what a difficult but blessed Lent it was. Christ has truly done so much in our hearts these past weeks and now it is time to celebrate.
"For if we have grown into union with Him through a death like His, we shall also be united with Him in the resurrection We know that our old self was crucified with Him, so that our sinful body might be done away with, that we might no longer be in slavery to sin."

We are so blessed and honored to have interviewed Father Louis Mersone for our final episode in our series on "Our Identity in Christ." We have concluded with Easter and the Resurrection.
Christ was not just a good man who died for us on the Cross. He took this horrible death and elevated it by rising from the dead and opening the gates of heaven so we could share in the eternal paradise which He has prepared for us.
Father Louis walks us through some of the struggles he has seen in his home country of Haiti where he resides as a priest at Saint Anne’s Cathedral in Anse-a-Veau, Haiti. He has seen such great suffering and has found that without the hope of the resurrection then all is lost. It is because of the Resurrection that we can find joy in every moment, even in the midst of suffering.

We have made it through Lent and we could not be more grateful to our listeners for going through this journey with us as we explored what it means to find our identity in Christ. This has been such a gift for us and has truly helped us enter more deeply into the season of Lent.
We are ending our series with our final Identity: Forgiven and Redeemed. What a beautiful and amazing gift this is for us. Here lies the full weight of what Jesus did for us in His death on the cross. This act of love and mercy is what allows us to be fully forgiven and redeemed. In this sacrifice Christ desires so deeply to poor His love and mercy out upon us. Nothing we have done and nothing we will do is greater than the mercy He wants to give to the world.
The Divine Mercy in which Christ revealed Himself to St. Faustina is God's way of reminding us of His great love for us. In that while we were still sinners He died for us. Trust in this love and mercy of our Lord, He is waiting with open arms to welcome you Home just as the prodigal son was welcomed by His father with great tenderness and mercy.

In this week’s episode we discuss another important identity in Christ : Known and Seen.
We often get overwhelmed with the duties and responsibilities of our roles as students, teachers, wives, mothers, friends, etc. We can become consumed with living up to the expectations that the world has placed upon us. We end up believing that our value lies in what we’ve accomplished and what we will continue to achieve, while deep down feeling like we will never be good enough.
When the days leave us exhausted and weary, a dark loneliness can settle in. Does anyone see all that I do? If only people knew what I was really like, would they still love me? Forget the accomplishments, crush the accolades, wipe out what we have or haven’t achieved. Does anyone see us for who we fully are? Does anyone know the fullness of our true selves? The answer is YES!
Our Lord, who has known us before we were finished being knit together in our mother’s wounds, has set His loving gaze upon. He KNOWS, SEES and loves us, not for what we’ve accomplished, but simply for who we are: HIS! We must rest in knowing that no matter where we hide, how far we run, or how alone we feel, there is nothing we can do to break away from the tender eyes and ever-present love of our Heavenly Father.

We are so excited about this topic of being light reflectors. Our calling is not for others to see us, praise us, or be like us but to see Christ through us. All that we do and say is meant to bring others into a deeper relationship with Christ. This may not be easy as our pride tends to get in the way but trust that He will provide the grace.

As we look at our own journey and walk with Christ He reveals to us how we are called to reflect His light. It might not be big and loud but might be in the subtle ways we talk with others or the little ways we serve and love others. Ask Christ to show you how He wants you to reflect His light. Turn your face to Christ so His light can shine on you and onto those around you!

This week we were thrilled to have a special guest, our dear friend, Brother Pius Marie, CFR. He was such a joy to talk with and we were blown away by his wisdom on the topic of: Our identity in Christ. He has such a profound insight on our Identity in Christ being rooted in the cross and suffering.
With this heavy topic he helps us draw closer to Christ through our suffering instead of running from it.
We often dismiss our cross when we compare ourselves to others, or can be overcome by it crippling us from the joys and peace God has for us, or we can feel like a victim from our suffering. But Brother Pius reminds us that our cross is our own. It is in the present moment in our suffering that Christ meets us and wants to love us. Even if we try to hide from him in the garden, He is calling out to us and He wants us to be real and authentic with Him through our cross.
"I have been crucified with Christ; yet I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me; insofar as I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God who has loved me and given Himself up for me."
-Galatians 2: 19-20

Specifically we dive into some of the dangers and pitfalls of how we women can injure our friendships through areas of: envy, judgment, in-authenticity, and gossip.
We will explore these four areas in more detail especially as it relates to things like social media. We will look into the ways they have damaged our own relationships and how we can bear more fruit in our sisterhood through avoiding such dangerous sins. Today we start a small series on the treasure and gift of friendship with other women, also known as sisterhood.
In a world where we are frequently beaten down and left feeling discouraged, it is often through the treasure of intimate and authentic relationships with other Christ seeking women that help pivot our hearts to truth and to our Lord’s endless loving embrace.
This is a topic very important to us, as the daily grind of poop explosions, spilled milk, sibling rivalries, meals to cook, bills to pay, and so much more can often be deflating. Yet, through the gift of sisterhood God wants to refresh our weary souls. "Just as lotions and fragrance give sensual delight, a sweet friendship refreshes the soul” Proverbs 27:9
We will explore this further as well as what it means to “lay one’s life down for another”

We move to another pivotal story in Bible history where they played a major role: Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead. We explore new ideas that were recently revealed to us while studying this chapter in John's Gospel.
- How did Martha and Mary respond to Lazarus's death?
