Becoming One: Recent Episodes

JENNIFER STOUT

As Christians we try out best to become like Christ. In doing so, we have created a culture where we may have lost a part of the true meaning of the gospel. We need to ask ourselves: are we living the culture or are we living the gospel? The more we are willing to have open conversations and really listen to others, within or outside of the church, we develop more of a capacity to "become one."

Have you ever wondered why as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints we don't ever see or use crosses? This episode dives in and gives us the opportunity to really reflect and ask why that is. John Hilton III takes us through some of the teachings in his new book, "Considering The Cross" and helps us to see how we can try to shed our societal beliefs as we learn more about Jesus Christ this Easter Season.

Lucy, Nicole, and Leisel all join me as we talk about some of the hard traumatic experiences that came with growing up as children in the Military. From South Korea to Texas, from Germany to Georgia, we all four have had our share of experiencing what I would call a non-traditional childhood. We dig deep to understand our parents and how the military might have had an effect on some of those relationships.

As we learn to have a deeper love for ourselves and others, where do we stand when it comes to modesty? Maybe there isn't a black and white answer as there are many interpretations when it comes to modesty.  As for Maddie Massingill, a current cheerleader on The Dallas Cowboy Cheerleading team and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she helps us to learn how we can become one as we learn what modesty means for her.

Is it better to go on a mission because you're "supposed" to or better to stay home? What about when you don't feel worthy? We are here to have the hard talk about the shame around not going on a mission or even coming home early. You get to hear me make up a word-"exqualified" as I tried to say disqualified and excluded at the same time. Whether you went on a mission or not, this episode is definitely for you!

Welcome to the BECOMING ONE Podcast. A podcast that really dives into the hard conversations that maybe shouldn't actually be so hard to have. I believe the more vulnerable we can be for ourselves, the more we can belong to ourselves and to eachother. Lets put the work in to really understand each-other and to truly become one.
