Jamar and I enter the seasonal chat with questions about music, where seeking answers on Blackness lead to anti-semitic fallacies, and will Twitter survive the winter.

We back! And just like before, I'm on a completely different topic:

In preparation for my first Brazilian Zouk Festival (conveniently down the street), I ask myself: is Zouk a Cult?!?

Enjoy me assess my thoughts, my first impressions, and my own confusion as to why I'm hesitant about an activity I commit my free time to.

To add some variety and new perspectives to a series of me talking into a mic, Kiana Nadonza, PhD Candidate and Graduate Teaching Fellow at the University of Oregon stops by for our quarterly in-depth catch-up. This summer needs a jam, and while we wait for Beyonce to throw her hat into the ring, Jamar and I think about the reaction to Kendrick Lamar's new album, "Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers."

Does King Kendrick do it for the culture and the summer vibes?

On this long weekend, I sit with more questions about how Juneteenth feels too white-washed after everyone learned about it just a year ago. How your job can improve Juneteenth celebrations going forward!

Also, how much is your time worth? Are you wasting your time trying to be cheap or for immediate cheap thrills for long-term labor?

Jamar and I get back in the swing of things. The first conversation reflects on our initial reaction to a shooting perpetrated by a white supremacist, now deemed a domestic terrorist attack, on a predominantly Black neighborhood grocery store, killing 10, and injuring 3. All victims were Black in a tragic event that was racially motivated. This event occurred on May 14th, 2022.

This recording occurred 3 days before the Uvalde School Shooting massacre and thus was not a part of the conversation, despite its relevance.

Yeah, we posted the episode towards the end of February, but Jamar Nixon, M.U.R.P., and I had a good conversation about what Black History Month meant for us growing up and what growing up being Black, in a country that both subconsciously and consciously ignores it's Black population and experience, has influenced how we share our perspective of Black history in America.

Part 1 of a two-part conversation

A link to the "Rachet Effect" Jamar referenced relating to how performative progressive or acts of allyship are just that, performative in the face of a system that by default leans to some degree to the "right" or "conservatively" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LPuKVG1teQ&ab_channel=SecondThought

In our continuing series of conversations, Jamar and I discuss our latest feelings with the COVID-19 pandemic. I discuss publicly for the first time what it was like getting COVID-19 [Delta strand back in October] and how Jamar remains to be one of few who have never caught the virus.

Excited about what we have in store for future episodes! Rate, Review, Follow, and Give 5-Stars!

New Year may not mean "New Me," but it probably leaves room for some new people in your life, so Jamar and I discuss what the dating scene looks like as we've moved away from our college tactics and interest.

Are there indeed "Plenty of Fish in the Sea?"

The start of our "Year in a Review" session with my buddy, Jamar Nixon, M.U.R.P. (Masters of Urban and Regional Planning). The first in a series of episodes where Jamar and I look at how we've grown, personally and professionally during the first full year of a global pandemic.

This episode series will cover our personal and professional lives, our relationships, dating lives, our outlook on society, and how we view things that have changed as the pandemic progresses. With a look at how we're preparing for our immediate futures.

I finally got back to podcasting, cause my thoughts are swarming through my head and I'm going to treat this as a place to keep my communication and storytelling skills sharp!

I wanted to keep it lite, but my mind didn't allow it, maybe one day I will actually do that long-awaited "dating update" episode..

Jamar Nixon and I have know each other since 2009, and we have been talking about doing a podcast before the pandemic. Well....he's crashing here for the weekend, so let's play around with it.

It's a long one compared to other episodes haha

To even call this a "conflict" seems inaccurate because a conflict suggests there are sides of comparable status and capability to inflict harm upon one another. That is not what is happening in Israel in the spring of 2021. What we see is an unchecked display of power that is not being held accountable by the international community. The very least we can do is be willing to view this critically and call it what it is, a senseless attack on defenseless people, with no clear resolution, and lazy thinking preventing us from speaking out against it.

Police Brutality isn't getting worst, it's getting filmed. A play on Will Smith's observation on racism in society today. More people are paying attention as police officers are taking Black bodies without remorse or responsibility. We need to address subconscious bias and how that has led to society's cowardice towards Blackness. Why are you afraid of Black people?

Anyone that knows me, knows that my Blackness and Politics are two very important topics to me. It's fair to say my level of comfort speaking to you about these topics is a good indicator of the quality of our relationship. Reading "White Fragility" by Robin DiAngelo reminds me that conversations with the majority of my peers about race will have always felt like pulling a fully stocked wagon, up a hill, by myself, with everyone complaining that I'm going too fast. Maybe I can get a chance to have a good conversation with friends about this book, though I feel like if you are a part of the "top caste group" in the USA, the bare minimum should be reading this book.

When I got home, I had recorded my first attempt at publishing a podcast cause I was in my head all day, then the news hit me, but it didn't really hit me. And the fact that it didn't really "hit" me made me wanna talk about why these mass-shooting tragedies are so many and close between, yet we don't so much as flinch nearly enough to make necessary changes.

The world may not need more podcast, but I need an outlet for the thoughts that have been swirling in my mind for decades. Talk about life, love, politics, anime, entertainment, beef between my neighbors. Regardless, let's just see what this is all about, I hope I have a plan for all of this..
